They pick Fowler for a priority. I would have thought it was Saffold then Fowler. I guess they like Fowler. I read they liked his work against the run and that he could play 3 downs.

I agree. Is it possible that they either believe Noteboom can play LG, or they are already targeting a less expensive option in FA?

While I get the denials during the playoffs, I don’t fully understand them after the season is over. I have some fears about why the Rams would deny the problem after the season ended, but if it is an injury that Gurley can recover from I don’t understand why the Rams wouldn’t just come out and say that he wasn’t at a 100% for the playoffs.

After the Super Bowl XXXVI loss to New England I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say that I was distraught. That loss impacted me in a way that just wasn’t logical. I’ve never rematches that game. That game came at a different time In my life and with a different set of expectations. Although I knew that the point spread was unrealistic, I expected a Rams win back then. The way that that loss unfolded affected me emotionally and physically. Anyway, 17 years later I’m at a different place and my Super Bowl LIII expectations were much different than they were in February of 2002. I was over this loss before I went to bed. The Rams suffered neither a blow out loss nor a gut wrenching collapse. The game hung in the balance right until, late in the 4th. A young Rams team played hard, but lost to as seasoned a Super Bowl squad one will ever see. So it goes.

EDIT: An important factor for me going into this game is that after 16 years of futility, I was just grateful that the Rams even made it to the Super Bowl. As a result I vowed to enjoy and appreciate the moment. So that is another reason for my equanimous reaction to the loss.

I watched the last quarter of the San Antonio/San Diego AAF game. I knew that Marty was coaching, but I didn’t realize that Larry Marmie was his DC. I don’t know if will become a regular watcher of the league, but I actually enjoyed watching that quarter. Although the Marta/Marmie combination brought back some unpleasant memories.

Great defensive game. More rushing attempts by the Rams would’ve been nice to see. I hope the Rams make it to another Super Bowl while I’m still on the green side.

Well, despite my negative feelings about the Rams chances tonight, I am looking forward to living in the moment and enjoying the experience. This will be just the 4th time in my 50 years that I’ve got to watch the Rams play in this game. I was beginning to think I’d never see this day again. So I just want to soak it all in, the good and the bad. Hopefully there is some good. My obsession with this team is not always rational or healthy, I’m guessing most introspective sports fans have come to a similar realization at some point in their lives. Anyway, I don’t really have a point to make. I didn’t want to start a new thread and I plan on avoiding the Internet for most of the day. Enjoy the game fellow Rams posters.

Im not expecting much from Gurley today. it’s been pretty obvious that he’s not right since the game against KC. I’m guessing we’ll find out the specifics after the game tonight. I’m sticking with my prediction of a meniscus tear.

And fwiw, I dont think its ‘fair’ for one team to have to play against ‘that’ kind of noise. I’m serious. I’ve always thought that. I dont mind a little ‘home field advantage’ but to ‘me’ that kind of noise seriously alters the game itself. I mean how much of an advantage is one team allowed before it makes the game a mockery? I got zero sympathy for the Saints.

I’ve never thought about it in that way before. You might be onto something. Last year when I went to the Vikings game down in Minneapolis I had to yell in order to talk to my friend sitting right beside me. My mouth was inches from his ear. I thought that it was jet engine loud. I had no idea how the Rams offense could do anything on the field. Actually, after their first drive they really didn’t do anything I guess. From everything that I’ve read it sounds like the NFC Championship game was louder. I don’t know how that could be possible. It’s a miracle that Goff and co. were able to mount a comeback under those circumstances.

The Patriots and Belichick are masters at exploiting other teams’ weaknesses. As a result I see a big game coming for the Pats running backs in the passing game. It will be interesting to see if the Rams put Talib on Gronkowski, because I don’t how else the Rams can handle him. I say this with all tough match ups, but the only way I see the Rams taking this game is by a big ST play or some forced turnovers by the defense.

On a side note, McDaniels seems to run at least one trick-play every game. Hopefully the Rams don’t get burned by one if it’s a close game.

This is the least I’ve followed Senior Bowl week in years. Usually I record at least a couple of practices. Any reports, or pictures of Rams front office staff being in Mobile?

When the articles sets out in advance to talk to all the big decision makers and people with max high input (Fisher, Demoff, Williams, McVay) what you get is a picture of very strong collaboration. The best articles about drafting Goff are that way for example.

Yeah, as I read this I was wondering if Fisher read it and shook his fists at the Montana sky. As I watch this team I can’t help but think that Fisher is a pretty decent evaluator of talent. Not a perfect evaluator obviously.

I wonder if he’s playing with a meniscus tear. Whatever it is I guess we won’t hear about it until after the season is over.

Either way, I’m glad the Rams are finally getting to play in a Super Bowl with two weeks to prepare. That’s different from their last two appearances.

The great special teams play that we’ve seen since the Fisher hired Fossil came up big yet again today. The defense was also a big factor obviously. To hold the Saints to under 30 at the dome is not what I was expecting.

I say we see since slump Goff. He’ll have a serviceable game, but not good enough to counteract the day Brees has. Somewhere around a 58% completion percentage, 200-250 yards passing, one TD, but two interceptions, or possibly one interception and one fumble.

I think that if the Rams win it will not be because of an outstanding game by Goff it will because the defense and/or ST will have played well enough to get the Rams offense at least one extra possession. I see Goff as the same way as I saw Bulger. That’s not to say I think that they have the same physical traits or style. I think that, like Bulger, Goff is capable of putting up some good stats from time-to-time, but usually it’s going to be about him not doing anything stupid to give the game away. As long as Leonard Little or Aaron Donald gets a few sacks, or forces a turnover or two. Bulger/Goff can be depended on to throw a couple of beautiful passes to win help win. A nice onside kick by Wilkins, or a fake punt by Hekker might be needed to get an extra possession as well.

Who is this guy? It’s the first time I’ve seen him. I watched bits and pieces of this video trying to figure out where in Canada lives. I liked his lecture on thermal underwear. It looks like he’s in eastern Ontario, but I can’t tell for sure.

Rams will wear throwback uniforms Saturday against Cowboys, Rams announced.

I enjoy seeing the Rams in the throwback jerseys, but I was hoping for the whites this weekend. That would have meant that the Cowboys would have had to wear their blue jerseys.

    6. THE CURSE OF THE BLUE JERSEY
The Cowboys were the designated home team in Super Bowl V, which meant they had to wear blue (the rule since has been changed to allow the designated home team the choice of wearing white or colors). Dallas lost the game, and the legend of “the blue jersey curse” was born. In subsequent years, opposing teams periodically have worn white at home just to force Dallas to wear blue — most famously in the 1981 NFC championship game, when the Eagles wore white at Veterans Stadium and won, thereby cementing the blue jersey’s status as uni non grata.

It’s been exciting to see the run game over the last two weeks. I hope McVay remains committed to running the ball in their first playoff game. Since McVay and Kromer arrived, the Rams have had a good run blocking line. It seems like this offense can be a great run first offense if that’s what McVay wants. Goff still wasn’t great for much of yesterday’s game, but he still threw some nice passes when it counted. Loved what I saw from Noteboom. I’m still not a big fan of Ebukam. Hopefully the Rams can upgrade his position next year and he comes in as a backup in 2019. Not that I’m suggesting that Ebukam is the only reason the Rams defense gives up big plays.

Anywho, sweeping the Niners en route to a sweeping the division? I love it. My eyes are wide open about the Rams deficiencies, but the first two years of the McVay era have been dreamy. Bring on the playoffs.

I say rest him until the playoffs. Hopefully that’s in two weeks. If it’s next week then at least he’s had a couple of weeks off. It sounds like whatever he’s got going on is going to require offseason surgery.

    Thanks for the maps JM.

I would say that if the Rams can’t beat ARZ at this point than everything is much worse than we thought.

    Agreed.

Part of me also feels as though the Rams are in a figurative no-win situation during the next two weeks. If they beat bottom dwellers like Arizona and San Francisco it doesn’t necessarily prove anything in terms of them being back on track. Although some positive signs would be nice (ie. how they win, how Goff looks under pressure etc.). If the Rams are playing starters as they fight for a first round bye and they lose, then I might start focusing more on the draft than their first playoff game.

Road game in the cold against a tough defense the week after clinching the division. Oh well. I did not expect a game plan that had Gurley running the ball only 11 times.

The only way I can see the Rams winning this game is if the ST and/or defense score some points. Kind of like last year vs. the Jaguars.
