from PFF, Fantasy Football Player Profile 2024: Las Vegas Raiders WR Davante Adamshttps://www.pff.com/news/fantasy-football-player-profile-2024-las-vegas-raiders-wr-davante-adams

    Player performance

Adams is a future Hall of Fame receiver who ranges from very good to elite at everything. Unsurprisingly, he hasn’t played as well without Aaron Rodgers. His catch rate was in the 70’s in 2020 and 2021, which fell to 55.6% in 2022 and 58.9% in 2023. Even though his routes per game have remained high, his receiving raw stats have declined.

He will be 32 years old by the end of the season, and his decrease in avoided tackles per game is noteworthy because his receptions per game barely changed from 2022 to 2023. His PFF receiving grade declined, although it was still very good. His touchdown total declined which moved him from a top-five fantasy receiver to a top 10.

    Competition for touches

Even though Adams might not be the same player he was a year or two ago, his utilization and competition for targets are a big reason why Adams hasn’t seen a large decrease in ADP. He remains among the league leaders in route snap percentage, target share, first read target percentage and end zone target share. Simply put, even if he’s less efficient with his receptions, he will still record tons of receptions.

Older comment (from 2020) from James Jones, former Packers receiver: https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/30252122/why-davante-adams-turned-better-all-green-bay-packers-special-receivers

Jones: “When you look at the receivers in the league, you can say that this is their strong point and this is their weak point. With Davante, you can’t say any of that. I watch [Cardinals receiver DeAndre] Hopkins, and he’s not very good releasing at the line of scrimmage, for example. But when you talk about Davante, you’re talking about release, he’s phenomenal. [Yards after catch] yardage, he’s phenomenal. Route running, he’s phenomenal. The ability to go up and make the tough catch, he’s phenomenal. Speed, yeah he’s not 4.3 [seconds], but he’s always getting behind and catching the deep balls or not getting caught from behind. He’s just special in every category.”

Davante Adams was 14th in ESPN’s separation score last season despite his age.

Still an elite separator and will bring the juice the Rams have missed since OBJ in their Super Bowl run.

In Sean McVay’s eight years as the head coach, the Rams have only had one other year where they averaged fewer yards per game than they averaged (331) in 2024. That was the 2022 season where things went off the rails and everyone was hurt in the second half of the year.

It became clear that the offense needed help around Matthew Stafford, Kyren Williams and Nacua, and the front office wasted no time making a splash. The team agreed to a two-year, $46 million deal with Davante Adams on Sunday, bringing in one of the top wide receivers on the market.

With Cooper Kupp on his way out of Los Angeles via trade or release, the Rams could use another wide receiver to pair with Nacua. Adams is a terrific fit in L.A., specifically with the offense McVay runs. Even at the age of 32, Adams is still a threat no matter where he lines up on the field.

His route running is among the best of any wide receiver in the league, with eye-popping releases at the line of scrimmage that allow him to create easy separation. According to ESPN, Adams was 14th in separation score last season, showing just how often he got open for his quarterbacks.

    Davante Adams
    Wide receiver, Jets
March 9: Adams signs with Rams

Because he was released by the Jets, Adams didn’t have to wait for the formal start of free agency to find a new team. And now, he’s headed to Los Angeles on a two-year, $46 million deal with $26 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network. If Adams had signed this deal with another team, I’d be harping on the risks of signing a 32-year-old wide receiver to a contract this big. But you know what? I totally get it for the Rams! They are as “win now” as any team in the NFL, given that Matthew Stafford is 37 years old. In Adams, the Rams get a reliable veteran who will be a nice complement to Puka Nacua. If the Rams’ pass protection can hold up, this offense has a chance to be exciting. Could both Stafford and Adams show serious signs of decline, resulting in the Rams taking a step back in 2025? Of course. That’s the risk. But the Rams chose a direction and are going for it. I respect that.

    Grade: B

The best of the veteran wide receiver options.
We have ourselves a classic “two things can be true” situation here:

    1. Adams is not the player he once was.

    2. Adams can still help a team if the fit is right.

He finished last year with 85 catches for 1,063 yards. That was in three games with the Raiders and 11 games with the Jets. Adams’s yards per reception average (12.5) was pretty much right alongside his career average (12.4). Let’s pair him with a good quarterback on a contending team and see what he has left. ,

Davante Adams signing with Rams on 2-year, $46 million deal: Sources

    By Jourdan Rodrigue, Dianna Russini

    https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6181390/2025/03/09/davante-adams-free-agency-signing-2025-rams/?source=emp_shared_article

The Los Angeles Rams have signed receiver Davante Adams to a two-year deal worth $46 million with $26 million guaranteed, league sources told The Athletic on Sunday afternoon.

The Rams later confirmed they had signed Adams.

Adding Adams, 32, continues the Rams’ rebuild of their wide receivers room after the team made its decision last month to move on from 2021 triple-crown winner and Super Bowl LVI MVP Cooper Kupp. The team previously also extended receiver Tutu Atwell on a one-year deal worth $10 million, a league source said.

Adams played three games for the Las Vegas Raiders last season before his trade to the New York Jets, where the hope was he and quarterback Aaron Rodgers would re-create some of the magic they had in past seasons in Green Bay. Adams was released from the Jets having played just 11 games and expressed his interest in returning to the West Coast, according to league sources familiar with his thinking. The three-time All-Pro is still playing at a high level and had 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns in 2024 despite all of the shuffling.

Adams was the No. 3-ranked free agent on The Athletic’s list of the top 150 free agents in 2025 and the second receiver.

Selected in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft out of Fresno State by the Green Bay Packers, Adams is a six-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound wideout has five seasons with more than 100 receptions and six years with more than 1,000 yards and at least 10 touchdowns.

In 11 seasons with the Packers, Raiders and Jets, Adams has 957 career receptions, 11,844 receiving yards and 103 touchdowns. Among active players, he ranks second in receiving touchdowns and fourth in receptions and receiving yards. Adams has only played two seasons when Rodgers was not his primary starting quarterback.

    How he fits

Once the Rams decided their offense/passing game will now flow through Puka Nacua, they also wanted to be aggressive in their pursuit of players who could complement the younger star. Extending Atwell as a speed option was one step in the two-part process. Sean McVay especially pursued Adams as a large-framed target for Stafford, who can get open from several alignments.

McVay especially led an aggressive pursuit of Adams in recent days, a league source said.

    2025 impact

A trio of Nacua, Adams and Atwell at receiver, plus running back Kyren Williams and tight end Tyler Higbee gives the Rams more of a schematic feel akin to what we’d seen in the first half of Super Bowl LVI, except with a much more productive run game. Then, Kupp was the focal point (now Nacua) and Odell Beckham Jr. provided pop as an all-around asset in the receiving game, with downfield receiver Van Jefferson taking the top off the defense. Substitute in the modern iteration: Nacua, orbited by Adams and Atwell, with Williams as the lead back and Higbee back for at least one more ride and there’s a sense McVay is hoping to field an explosive and multiple offense.

    Outlook

It’s hard to picture a McVay-led offense that doesn’t feature Kupp. That said, the Rams were aggressive in their overhaul and added skills complementary to Nacua via their two signings. In Adams, the Rams have another new star receiver in L.A., and Stafford has an “X.”

i’m a little worried. just looking for examples of wrs who remained productive beyond age 32. it’s slim. there’s rice. marvin harrison. muhsin muhammad. and not much else.

Remember he’s brought in to be a #2.

The Rams like Wittington, and they will certainly take a WR in the draft.

Excited to see Davante Adams with Matthew Stafford. If you ask around, Adams still has plenty left. He’s also been a player that has always won as a route technician and that trait usually ages well. Stafford will give him chances to make plays too.

Mina Kimes liked the Davante signing, and she noted the rams pass offense was “7th in EPA versus zone, but 22nd versus Man…”

I dunno what epa means but i know the difference between 7 and 22.

Hey! That’s an interesting phrase you came up with there. Very useful in talking about things like player predictions. I like it better than “outcomes can be unpredictable so events will reveal themselves to us in time.”

If you don’t mind, I’m going to use it too.

In fact I really think it will catch on.

    Time will see.

I find it kinda complicated to describe EPA, but here’s a reductive version of it. It measures plays that set up first downs. So you don’t really much out of throwing for 9 yards on 3rd and 10. Even though it’s 9 yards and a completion. You get much more out of throwing for 5 on 1st and 10.

Anyway what that stat 22 v. 7 EPA tells you is that Nacua, while a great receiver in the Rams offense, is not a great route runner. Not bad just not great. Adams is a great route runner. So Nacua is less slippery against man coverage than Adams is.

Nacua is tough, aggressive, athletic, and a gamer. He’s like a tight end in a receiver’s body. But he is not what Adams is–a receiver in a ballet dancer’s body.

Improving against man coverage raises the offense’s overall potential.

Davante Adams said Sean McVay sent him a couple highlight cut-ups of his game that McVay narrated as part of his recruitment to the Rams.

Adams said the Rams were “definitely the most eager organization to reach out,” which was a factor in his decision.

The Athletic’s Ted Nguyen went a step further and contended that the addition of Adams made the Rams receiving corps one of the most-improved units in the NFL through the first week of free agency. Although it was just one move — and the Rams lost Kupp, Demarcus Robinson and Tyler Johnson, Adams’ presence alongside Puka Nacua gives Los Angeles a sensational one-two punch at receiver.

    From Nguyen:

“Adams struggled with drops last season, but he’s still a destroyer of man coverage. Last season, he ranked 12th in yards per route run against man coverage (2.69) while dropping 14.8 percent of his passes against man coverage (fourth-highest among receivers with at least 30 targets). Adams typically has very reliable hands, so this was an outlier season. If his drop rate regresses to the mean, he can still produce a high level in his most stable situation in years.

“Puka Nacua might be the best receiver Adams has ever played with, so Adams will theoretically see his lowest rate of double-teams since the beginning of his career. With coach Sean McVay’s play calling and Matthew Stafford’s arm talent, Adams looks to be set up for a rebound season. The Rams’ offense hasn’t had this sort of threat on the outside since Odell Beckham Jr. joined the team midseason in 2021 when L.A. won the Super Bowl.”

141 out of 159 is not what you want in your #2 wideout. That’s not good enough for your #3 WR.

Turns out, the information available for free.

159 is Tommy Tremble, CAR TE

There was no 140 because of ties, they counted 2 141s. And the other 141 was Deebo.

    In 2024…

    Adams was 15
    Nacua was 19
    Atwell was 37
    Robinson was 77
    Johnson was 115
    Parkinson was 120
    Kupp as mentioned was 141
