DAY 2 WITH FASSEL
Rams interim head coach John Fassel ran his second practice on Tuesday — a day which felt a bit more normal for the club after the coaching change on Monday.
“It’s always good to be back out on the grass after the last 24 hours,” Fassel said. “A little bit of the initial sting wore off and the guys slept on it, came back this morning. They know the task at hand and ahead of us and they’ll be ready to go. But, yeah, probably a little bit easier.”
Though Fassel has been busy preparing for the Seahawks, he did find a few minutes to speak briefly with his father, former Giants head coach John Fassel.
“He said, ‘Be yourself and go for it,’” the younger Fassel relayed. “There really wasn’t a lot of discussion. He’s going to be at the game, I think I told you yesterday, which will be really exciting for me. I’ll rely on him a lot.”
Fassel has been forthcoming about what he perceives as his learning curve as the Rams’ interim head coach, which is part of why — at least for now — he wants to keep the players and coaches on the same routine. That’s especially with the quick turnaround for Thursday Night Football in Seattle.
“Nothing has changed as far as the organization of the offense or the defense or even special teams,” Fassel said. “We prepped a little bit last week knowing it was going to be a short week. So we’re prepared for yesterday, today, tomorrow and Thursday.”
As Fassel pointed out, the Rams are out of postseason contention, but one of the advantages of going to Seattle in Week 15 is that the club will be playing in a playoff-like atmosphere. It’s quality experience for everyone on the team for the future.
“This will be really good for us,” Fassel said. “I’m super excited, and I think about 48 hours from now being on the sideline — it’s kind of crazy.”
