rams run wide zone 2x as much as everyone else and have 5.2 yds per carry off of it

When the Rams get 2+ takeaways (3 games), their avg point differential is +20.33. When they get 1 or less takeaways (6 games), their avg point differential is +6.33. That includes the 34-point route of the Cardinals (1 INT). W/o that game, the avg differential is only +0.66.

Rams get turnover but McVay decided not to take field goal. Hekker keeps ball on fake and is topped short of first down. McVay challenges but call is upheld. Maybe getting too cute.

from Rams at Saints Postgame Notes (11/4/18)

    – The Rams fell to the Saints, 35…45

    – QB Jared Goff completed 28-of-40 passes for 391 yards and three touchdowns, his second-highest single game passing yards total of his career. Earlier this season, Goff registered 465 yards against the Vikings ((9/27/18).

    – Goff tallied his 10th career game with 300-plus yards.

    – RB Todd Gurley rushed 13 times for 68 yards and one touchdown.

    – Gurley has 12 rushing touchdowns, four receiving touchdowns and three two-point conversion this season. Gurley leads the league in scoring with 102 points.

    – Gurley has scored a scrimmage touchdown in 12-straight regular season games played, setting a new franchise record for the Rams. Previously, Elroy Hirsch (1950-51) held the record with 11 consecutive games with a scrimmage touchdown.

    – Gurley tallied six receptions to increase his career total to 165 receptions. Gurley moved passed Pete Holohan (159) to move into 25th place on the Rams all-time reception leaders list.

    – Cooks led the team in receiving yards with 114 on six catches.

    – Cooks notched his 12th career game with 100-plus yards.

WR Brandin Cooks leads the #LARams with 757 yards receiving. His 18.5 yards per reception average is the highest of his career. He’s currently on pace for 1,346 yards receiving — which would also be a career high.

#LARams WR Robert Woods is right behind Cooks with 743 yards receiving, but he’s leading LA with 51 receptions. He could very well reach a new career high in yards receiving next week vs. SEA. Previous career high was reached last year with LA, 781 yards receiving.

The Rams allowed 35 points in the first half yesterday. Only three other teams — Arizona, San Francisco and Tampa Bay — have had a half that bad this season, and they have a combined record of 7-18.

It’s really hard to score 45 points on a Wade Phillips defense. Nobody had done it since 2010, when Phillips was head coach in Dallas. No team with Phillips strictly as coordinator had given up 45 since Atlanta in 2003…against New Orleans.

Did Sean McVay think Hekker got the first down? “Yeah.”

Deon Sanders ain’t walking through that door. Marcus needs to play better. That’s the bottom line. And he knows that. If you’re expecting some savior replacement, be it off the roster or on it, that isn’t going to happen.

Yesterday reminded me of a great, close, tennis match. McEnroe Borg if you will. A call here an unforced error there and all of a sudden someone is down two sets, digging themselves out. Rams dug themselves out. Made it a 5-set match.

No choice but to keep it moving.

The #Saints are the most complete team in football. If they stay healthy they’re the team to beat in the NFC

The @Saints invested 2 First round picks, a heavy FA signing, & traded away their stud TE in his prime to build this Offensive Line-& they are what’s driving this team right now.

    from Vinny Bonsignore, Rams Q&A.

Johnson is playing good. I do not feel Lamarcus is sulking. Guys just need to play better. But also, the Saints are damned good.

… when you play a great offense – see Patriots in last two Super Bowls or Patriots against Chiefs – you can pretty much forget about shutting them down. It’s about keeping up with that great offense with your offense and getting a timely stop or unforced error or turnover. And taking advantage.

The pressure..it’s hard with that QB. Drew Brees is a Hall of Fame QB that gets the ball out really, really fast. The Rams have been getting pressure and push all year, especially inside. I would not freak out over what happened Sunday. That quarterback is very, very good. It was going to come down to a stop here and there. And the Rams got their share in the second half–they did a great job in the second half of making life more difficult.

Drew Brees and the Saints were not going to fade. They are too good. That game was always going to come down to an unforced error or a timely stop. The Rams got their share, but when the needed a stop most late in the fourth quarter Drew caught Marcus off guard.

I actually think Marcus gets it squared away. I didn’t watch him much in KC. But bottom line he isn’t playing well. And he needs to fix that. He understands.Long season. I got a feeling Marcus redeems himself

[Fake FG] They knew TD’s were needed. Thought it was the right call. That it was executed well. Thought the referees made a terrible call.

What was the deal with all the flailing attempted arm tackles yesterday? Saints just that fast?

Guys I talked to talked about it: poor technique. They got back to basics as the game went on and improved.

Seahawks are good, no doubt. But I expect a big bounce-back game from Rams
