If you were the Rams GM would you pick Goff or Weinz?
by Grant 2:02 PM[/i]Myself, I like Wentz better. He’s bigger, more athletic, stronger arm. But obviously, he’s got a lot less experience than Goff (23 starts) and played at a lower level.
by jthomas 2:03PMThe Rams know who they are taking, right? A team doesn’t trade up to number 1, without knowing exactly who they are taking.
by Mark S 2:03PMIt sure looks that way. All signs pointing to Goff.
by jthomas 2:04PMJim, concerning Isaac Bruce’s flag football game (already have my tickets!), is there a rule prohibiting active players from participating (assuming they have the day available, of course)?
by SadRamsFan 2:04PMUnless there’s something specifically in a player’s contract, I don’t think there’s a rule prohibiting active players from participating in such an event. But why would you risk it if you’re an active player? And just so you know, the Legends of the Dome organizers have reached out to Steven Jackson,, Chris Long, and James Laurinaitis to attend. Not to play, but just to be there and be recognized by the fans after their long service to the team in St. Louis.. July 23 is pretty close to the start of camp, so that may keep those guys away. I think Jackson is still hoping to play in 2016, but if he’s got nothing on the horizon at that time, he might show up. At least that’s what I’m told.
by jthomas 2:09PMIs Torry Holt going to make Bruce’s football game, you reported that he was trying to re-schedule a flight?
by Mark S 2:10PMYes, Holt confirmed his participation on Monday. He had a long-standing trip planned to Europe, but has altered those plans and will attend the game.
by jthomas 2:10PMIs there any way I can entice to discuss the Rams’ recent coaching changes? Is this Fisher: 1) giving his OCoordinator the coaching team that he wants; 2) giving up on the men he fired; 3) sincerely thinking the new coaches are just better; 4) looking for a scapegoat to save his job? If #3, what about them should make the skill players better?
by bfulton 2:11PMFor starters, Fisher normally is very loyal to his assistants. So it was surprising to five of them go at the end of the season, especially veteran wide receivers coach Ray Sherman. It also was odd to see the offensive coordinator (Cignetti) fired 12 games into the season. Very strange timing. These don’t seem like Fisher moves, and you wonder if he was nudged from above.
by jthomas 2:14PMJim, last week ESK was interviewed on NFL Network (amazing how “available” for interviews he is now), he was asked if the Rams trading up was to make a splash in LA. He said no, it was a :football move.” Football move? Since when? Him & his 3 stooges don’t even know if a football is filled with air or if it’s stuffed. What a joke.
by DrMizzou 2:14PMYeah, I saw the interview. Strange to see Stan in front of a microphone these days.
by jthomas 2:15PMDid you hear anything about the 2 coaches who were fired during the Seattle trip last year?
by TK 2:15PMNo comment.
by jthomas 2:15PMHi Jim, Do Goff and Wentz seem to be that much better than Mannion seemed, coming out of college?
by Tom 2:15PMWell, they had better final seasons in college. (Even with Wentz’s injury.) Mannion threw some interceptions and struggled a lot more during his final season in college. He didn’t have a lot around him, and it looked like he forced some throws and got into some bad habits.
by jthomas 2:17PMJim, yeah, Stan Kroenke & microphone don’t seem to go well together
by DrMizzou 2:18PMNo doubt. After all, it had been more than four years of Stan’s media blackout in St. Louis.
by jthomas 2:18PMHey Jim, what do you think the Chiefs will do in the draft?
by KC Chief fan now former… 2:21PMIn our three Post-Dispatch mock drafts, I had them taking three different players: Ohio State CB Eli Apple in Mock 1; Eastern Kentucky DE/OLB Noah Spence in Mock 2, and then OLB Darron Lee in Mock 3, which was our final mock. The Soence and Lee picks were a reaction to Justin Houston’s knee injury/surgery and the need for an outside edge presence in the rush. (Especially Spence, since Lee isn’t really known as much as a pass-rush guy.) Cornerback fills a need, and I could see them adding a wide receiver at some point to compliment Maclin. With Chase Daniel going to Philadelphia via free agency, they also need to find a bad QB as well.
by jthomas 2:26PMJim, your description of Mannion sounds a lot like Hackenberg’s career – do you think Hackenberg will start in the NFL?
by Qbert 2:26PMThat’s true, but even more pronounced in Hackenberg’s case, because he had two sub par seasons following his ’13 season. And I wonder if he has the accuracy to be an NFL starters. Completion percentages of 58.9%, 55.8%, and 53.5% at Penn State.
by jthomas 2:30PMJim, one of the LA trolls on NFL Talk said he thought the Rams defense would be even better this year. Huh? You lose 4 starters, 2 of which are absolute team leaders, and are moving Ogletree to MLB and talking about moving Joyner to FS, plus Quinn is coming off back surgery, and this is improvement? Is Bud Carson coming out of retirement to be DC?
by DrMizzou 2:30PMWe’ll see. They have depth issues at linebacker and defensive tackle, so they better hope they are relatively clean on the injury front. In addition, we’ll see how Barron does over a full 16-game season playing outside linebacker. There’s no doubt he’s a tough guy and a thumper, but can he hold up over a full season? I do wonder about not having Laurinaitis and his ability to get the team in and out of alignments just before the snap. But I think Ogletree is a little underrated when it comes to being a student of the game, and will do fine there.
by jthomas 2:33PMGood Day Jim, That was a good article on NFL players from Australia. The important aspect is that there is 2 codes of football sending players to the US Ozy rules football which is mostly kicking and Rugby League which is where Jared Hayne is from, which is more running with the ball. Also Australia has a lot of big bodies ready for the NFL
by OzyRamsFan 2:34PMGlad you liked the story. It was a fun one to write and stemmed from the fact that 3 of the 9 punters and kickers at the combine were from Australia.
by jthomas 2:34PMBradford wants out of Philly. Does Chase Daniel finally become a starter?
by RGC 2:34PMThat could indeed happen, particularly if Wentz _ and I think most of us are assuming it’s Wentz _ is not ready. I’d really like to see Daniel get a chance as a starter after all these years, even if it’s just for a few games.
by jthomas 2:36PMWhat’s the market look like for Sam Bradford?
by Tom 2:36PMIt looks like Denver is interested, and why wouldn’t they be. They look pretty desperate at this point. I think San Francisco would make a lot of sense as well given the Chip Kelly connection. I’m saying this now not knowing the Denver and San Fran cap situations off the top of my head and how that might impact things.
by jthomas 2:38PMDo you think Foles would thrive in Denver?
by Qbert 2:38PMActually, I don’t see Foles thriving anywhere at this point. He really needs to get his head together and his confidence back.
by jthomas 2:39PMWhat do you think the odds are that we can trade Foles and what is the return on him. thanks jim
by mdk 2:39PMI don’t see much of a market. Maybe a seventh-rounder or a conditional sixth-rounder. Foles’ contract with the Rams could be problematical.
by jthomas 2:40PMSo Goodell suspended Brady for “behavior detrimental to the integrity of the game of football.” Are you flipping kidding me? How can his name and integrity be int he same sentence?
by RGC 2:40PMThat’s your NFL for you in 2016. What can I say?
by jthomas 2:41PMThat smog in LA must be good therapy for the vocal cords – Stan SPEAKS!!!
by DrMizzou 2:41PMHey, he is a Malibu guy.
by jthomas 2:41PMJim, I think with the Rams selecting Goff or Wentz, (preferably Wentz) that tells me they wasted last years 3rd round pick on Mannion. Hopefully they can trade either Mannion or Foles to get that draft pick back.
by RR 2:41PMAgain, it looks like it’s Goff. But don’t hold your breath waiting for the Rams to get a third-rounder for Mannion or Foles. And yes, moving up to No. 1 doesn’t exactly speak highly for what they think of Mannion.
by jthomas 2:43PMBoth QBs have to be praying they get taken 2nd. Whoever is taken 1st better learn to throw a good swing pass because the Rams still (amazingly) have no WRs.
by Tackleberry 2:43PMYeah, it’s a little shaky there. Austin, Britt, Quick, Marquez, and who knows about Bailey.
by jthomas 2:44PM“Hey, he is a Malibu guy.”
He’s as much a Malibu guy as much as he is a Mora/Cole Camp/ Columbia MO guy.
by DrMizzou 2:44PMJust saying, he’s got a place in Malibu.
by jthomas 2:45PMWho were the two coaches fired during the Seattle trip?
by Jim Otis 2:46PMNo comment.
by jthomas 2:46PMJim, why would a former Rams fan jump ship to the Chiefs when their owner was outspoken in his support of the Rams leaving. Hunt wanted St. Louis for the Chiefs. I hope he never gets it. Go Rams!
by Clark Hunt Supported the… 2:52PMClark Hunt wasn’t outspoken in his support of the Rams. He just voted against the Carson project, because it was a two-team project. I believe his feelings all along were that he thought LA was just a one-team market. And he’s probably right on that.
by jthomas 2:54PMCould you explain the Brady penalty reinstatement? So, the NFL pursued it in federal court? I think it would be such a joke if this went to the Supreme Court, as I am sure they would laugh, too.
by Frank 2:54PMSimply, the NFL won its appeal. Now it’s up to Brady if he wants to appeal. I’m with you, and I think most people agree, just get this thing over. Maybe Brady and Goodell meet and cut the penalty in half _ two game _ and move on.
by jthomas 2:56PMDo you know of any Rams fan groups in STL having a draft party?
by Last Rams Fan In STL 2:56PMNo I don’t. But a good question. Any Rams fans in St. Louis organizing a draft party? I’ll try to Tweet that out to and see if I get any response. Other than cuss words, that is.
by jthomas 2:58PMIt seems like the Broncos failed to anticipate losing Osweiler. I also think Peyton had one more year in him at a level that they could reach the Super Bowl again–I think he would have stayed if they asked.
by Frank 2:58PMFrom afar, I do think the Broncos were taken by surprise with Osweiler’s departure. And that’s an interesting point on Manning _ would he have stayed if they asked? I just don’t think the Broncos were going to ask.
by jthomas 2:59PMNo one expects a team with a rookie QB to make the playoffs. So, does this mean Fisher gets a free pass this year, and then gets a 6th season at the helm? It seems unfathomable, yet highly possible.
by Alex 2:59PMIn terms of Fisher’s job security, I no longer even try to make any sense of it.. In Tampa Bay, it didn’t help Lovie Smith’s job security drafting Jameis Winston _ one year into Smith’s Tampa tenure. I do think the seat is a little, uh, warmer for Fisher these days.
by jthomas 3:02PMWhat is this Seattle trip thing? Any reason why you can’t comment about it?
by David L 3:02PMBecause it was told to me in confidence.
by jthomas 3:02PMHi Jim, the Supreme Court chooses what cases it will hear, you don’t automatically get a hearing there if you appeal. They choose cases that have issues related to the interpreation of the constitution, particularly ones that either have unique issues, have issues that have been decided differently by different appeals courts, or of an urgent nature and will end up in the Supreme court anyway. I don’t think Brady’s case qualifies on any of those counts.
by Jim Otis 3:03PMThanks for the input. Besides starring at Ohio State and then playing well for the old St. Louis Cardinals, Jim Otis sounds like he knows what he’s talking about here.
by jthomas 3:04PMSo, what is your take on Thurman Thomas’ condition related to head trauma? The more these high profile players lose their health the more the NFL has a problem, and not just a PR one.
by Frank 3:04PMI don’t think there’s any doubt about that. It doesn’t seem like an issues that’s going away. I think we saw a few more “early” retirements than usual this offseason. I’m curious to see if that becomes more of a trend in future offseason.
by jthomas 3:06PMI can’t see Brady, or the NFLPA, accepting a lesser penalty. He seems dug in on principle. Can’t say I disagree with him, as the evidence clearly doesn’t match the penalty, but I wonder if Belichick has any influence on his decision to further pursue the matter.
by Alex 3:06PMYeah, I’ve thought of that, too, in terms of Brady’s determination _ stubbornness? _ to see this through and clear his name. I’m sure he has the money to see this through in terms of legal expenses,, which much be considerable. I guess an appeal by Brady helps Belichick because it’s my understanding there can be no penalty levied during the appeals process.
by jthomas 3:08PMWell let me tell you something, brother! Whatchya gonna do when the Rams draft Jared Goff? Kroenkemania is running wild!!!
by HH 3:08PMIs this Jared?
by jthomas 3:09PMDo you think snead and fisher will be able to remain flaccid in the draft room and make the right choice? This is Sam Bradford all over again
by Andrew 3:09PMBy all accounts, the choice already has been made. (Goff) And remember, Snead and Fisher didn’t select Bradford. They inherited him in 2012.
by jthomas 3:10PMJim, what are the draft needs for the Chiefs?
by fred 3:10PMI took a stab at this earlier. But I’d say OLB, CB, WR, backup QB.
by jthomas 3:11PMJim, what odds do you give of this big trade with Titans paying off a couple of years from now?
by Tom 3:11PMPays off for the Rams in 2-3 years? I’d say 40-60.
by jthomas 3:11PMWe would to thank the Rams for not making any announcements (example; another brilliant demoff trade, salutations from anyone and everyone in the organization about stan’s commitment to excellence, etc.) that would have obviously taken away all attention from us on the day we fired our head coach. Their reputation for caring deeply about their home town is demonstrated once again.
by The Lakers 3:12PMIt’s that personal touch, isn’t it?
by jthomas 3:12PMHey Jim, I still hate it here in LA. To be honest, it sucks! The only thing fun is to go to the Playboy Mansion. That’s really it… Well, I do get a lot of action here but I did in St. Louis too. Hey Mr. Kroenke if you’re on this chat like you are every week, will you please return my phone calls. I still have not received my relocation package and I have yet to see a cost of living adjustment on my paycheck. Please call or email me. Thank you, Rampage
by Rampage 3:12PMRampage checks in. . . . .
by jthomas 3:13PMBy your estimation, who, if any, WR, TE or S likely available in the 4th round or later, is particularly intriguing.
by bfulton 3:18PMAt WR, Mike Thomas comes to mind. (The Mike Thomas from Southern Mississippi, not the Ohio State version). TCU’s Kolby Listenbee and Clemson’s Charone Peake should be there. At tight end maybe Ohio State’s Nick Vannett is there, or Thomas Duarte of UCLA. I doubt Jerrell Adams of South Carolina is there. Western Kentucky’s Tyler Higbee could be there, but now he’s got those off-field issues. At tree safety, Boise State’s Darian Thompson would be a steal in Round 4, but I don’t think he’s there. More likely there in 4 would be West Virginia’s K.J. Dillon.
by jthomas 3:24PMEven if the Rams justify the trade by suggesting that Goff is a franchise QB, which he isn’t, there is nothing sexy about the pick other than it is the 1st overall. Goff was not a Heisman candidate, he didn’t play for a bowl playoff school and his skill set/physical attributes aren’t revolutionary… it is just hard to see how this makes sense on any level?
by Tackleberry 3:24PMHard to argue with what you’re saying.
by jthomas 3:25PMJim, have you ever been to the Coliseum? Historic but not fan friendly! What do you think of the raiders in Vegas?
by Mike from so ca 3:25PMNo, I haven’t. But I’m really looking forward to being out there for the Rams’ home opener I love old stadiums. I think the Raiders in Vegas has a real chance. I got that impression talking to Mark Davis at the owners’ meetings last March. It didn’t fit what I was writing (on Davis and St. Louis), but I did come away with that impression.
by jthomas 3:28PMHey Jim, long time no talk to. As you know, I hate the Eagles now. I can’t believe they gave up so much to get my replacement. Any idea where I should go now?
by Sammy B 3:28PMTough it out in Philly. Do your best. Stay healthy.
by jthomas 3:28PMBradford demands a trade…since when do QBs who have never had one winning season think they can demand anything?
by DrMizzou 3:29PMHard to argue. I just heard a reply of agent Tom Condon interview on the topic while doing this chat. Condon argued that Bradford wants to go somewhere where he has a chance to be the long-term QB for the team. I don’t think Bradford has earned that right to simply expect that or dictate that.
by jthomas 3:29PMSince you got to watch the Rams staff up close and personal while in STL what is the likelihood they can properly develop a rookie QB so as to not produce a bust similar to the Ponders and Leafs of past drafts ? I just don’t see it as possible with this staff but you saw them far closer than any of us. Thank you for continuing this outlet.
by Jgill 3:33PMI’ll just put it this way. I know some scouts/personnel people around the league who have their doubts. And I have my doubts.
by jthomas 3:34PMHi Jim – Predictions on what round the Mizzou draftees end up? Any others that may get a look as undrafted FA?
by Jared Goff 3:34PMWe ran a list of local/regional draft prospects in Tuesday’s paper, but for some reason I don’t think it made it on-line. But I see center Evan Boehm, offensive guard Connor McGovern, and linebacker Kentrell Brothers all as mid-round picks, going in the third_ to fifth-round area. I think Boehm and McGovern are more third_, fourth-rounders, and Brothers as more of a fourth_, fifth-rounder. I don’t see any other Tiger getting drafted although I think CB Dennis, K Baggett, and RB Hansbrough get signed as rookie free agents.
by jthomas 3:40PMJim, ESK trashes STL on his way out of town, saying we can’t support X number of teams, etc. Does he realize the Rams have moved FOUR different times in their history? Cleveland to LA to Anaheim to STL and then to Inglewood. STL didn’t lose them 4 times.
by DrMizzou 3:40PMI believe your math is correct here. If the Rams were really returning home, they would be back in Cleveland.
by jthomas 3:41PMSorry, maybe I didn’t ask the question correctly. I remember the Rams firing several coaches after the season, in addition to Cignetti during the season. I don’t remember any other coaches being let go during season, which is why I asked who they were. Are you saying that two of the after season firings were related to something that happened during the Seattle trip? Or that two anonymous people in the background were fired and there was no announcement and no one in the general public knew they were even gone?
by Jim Otis 3:41PMI had only heard of one coach, not two. And remember, Seattle was the second to last game of the season. So it’s not like this happened in October. I think the coach in question stayed for the finale in San Fran, and ws one of the five announced as fired after the season.
by jthomas 3:43PMAND with the 1st pick in the 2016 draft, the LOS ANGELES Rams pick Ezekiel Elliott…and never throw the ball again!
Ever get the feeling that no matter which QB the Rams pick, it’s going to be the wrong one? Maybe I’ve just played this game too long!
by DJM34 3:43PMI’m sure the Rams have a high grade on Elliott.
by jthomas 3:43PMDo you think the top two QB prospects have starting QB potential in the NFL? Either with star quality?
by DJM34 3:44PMThey certainly have starting ability. As for star quality _ on that I’m not sure.
by jthomas 3:44PMSorry to kick this dead horse, but I saw that Goodell recently attended an event to promote the San Diego stadium effort. I know he also went to MN a time or two during their new stadium process. Did Goodell ever attend any event in StL or MO. Do you know if he was asked to by the Task Force or others. His absence (and other events) seem pretty telling to me that StL never really had a chance to keep the Rams and where the NFL wanted things to end up.
by Dirty Pete 3:45PMWell, here’s the difference. San Diego is trying to build up interest in a tax vote. There was never a tax vote proposed in St. Louis.
by jthomas 3:45PMno team carries 4 QBs, what do you see the Rams doing with the situation
by mdk 3:46PMFoles’ days are numbered with the Rams.
by jthomas 3:46PMDo you think I gave up too much for No. 1 pick? I am losing some sleep over it….
Jeff Fisher, Hollywood
by Frank 3:46PMYes, I do.
by jthomas 3:46PMI hope Kroenke loses his billions from his failed investment in LA and has to return to Mora eating crow. Literally. And then I hope the residents of Mora use those feathers from the crow to tar and feather him. But then, I hope no crow is spared for Kroenke as it (Kroenke, not the crow) isn’t even worth the crow.
For what it’s worth, I have friends who live in Columbia who say that Kroenke hasn’t done anything to ingratiate himself with Columbians.
by David L 3:47PMOK then. . . .thanks for playing.
by jthomas 3:47PMI know this maybe asking you to take a wild guess, but who better to give one of your infamous % questions? What % of St. Louis Rams fan base has stuck with the team through the move to LA?
by DJM34 3:47PMI’ll say 60 percent, but half of that 60 percent will be rooting against the Rams.
by jthomas 3:48PMWhat do you think of mark Davis saying if las Vegas comes up with funding he will commit to moving there? Do you think ythe gambling issue could stop it?
by Walt 3:48PMDoesn’t seem like the NFL, judging from Goodell’s comments on the topic over the last few months _ is concerned about the gambling issue any more. They see big dollars, corporate sponsors, sold-out luxury suites. . . .more money, money, money in Vegas.
by jthomas 3:50PMHow about those Blue Notes!!!! Now that’s a class organization that puts a quality product on the ice. The weasel Demoff and StanK could learn a lot from them. It’s probably for the best the Lambs are out of St Louis.
by KEITH 3:50PMBeing committed to a region, being concerned about more than money, and having an owner who’s actually around the team helps. Don’t you think?
by jthomas 3:51PMJim, I have to say that I am apathetic to the upcoming draft these days. Last year, I was reviewing mock draft sites in anticipation of how Snead, Fisher and the Rams were finally going to make the right choices and make the playoffs. This year, I have not looked at a single mock draft outside of yours. It is kind of depressing. However, now that I have lost that loving feeling for the Rams, I am taking solace in the fact that their draft philosophy is backwards and they will forever be stuck in mediocrity. It seems that if there philosophy in building a team is from the inside-out, why did they wait until last year to finally draft on offensive line, which individuals will need a lot of seasoning, and this year to finally draft a supposed franchise QB? O-line, D-line and QB’s, if they are worthy of a starting caliber career, can play for 8-12 years. After you have built the foundation of your team, you can take flyers on players with great measurables to put your team over the top. The Rams drafted in the complete opposite direction it seems to me. Am I close?
by Todd 3:52PMI don’t know. It just seems like their draft timing seems to be off. For example, the years they have taken WRs weren’t great years to take WRs. Some of the years they’ve passed on WRs turned out to be very good years to take WRs. I think you could make the same argument at QB. At face value, wouldn’t you rather trade up for Winston or Mariota than Goff or Wentz? We’ll see.
by jthomas 3:56PMEh, who cares about the NFL and its draft. LET’S GO BLUES!!!
No offense Jim. Love your work. Again, only reason why I’m here.
by David L 3:56PMI’m not much of a hockey fan, but I think a long playoff run by the Blues is just what this area needs after what happened with the Rams.
by jthomas 3:57PMDo you really think a franchise in London is viable? I mean, they would be playing with jet lag for half their games. I think it is a bit arrogant of the NFL to think they can appeal internationally in a sustainable way.
by Frank 3:57PMI’ve said all along that I just can’t see how logistically the NFL could make a team in London work. Although the NFL by all accounts is gaining popularity in the UK, when I was there for the Rams-Patriots game in 2012 it ranked behind darts in terms of popularity.
by jthomas 3:59PMTirico to NBC and is this good for NBC? He puts me to sleep….
by Frank 4:00PMWho would you like to see taking over play-by-play duties on MNF?
by jthomas 4:00PMWho do you think is the best overall prospect in this draft?
by Alex 4:01PMMy medal stand in no particular order, Jalen Ramsey, Laremy Tunsil, and Ezekiel Elliott. Not including Myles Jack because of the knee issue.
by jthomas 4:02PMDoes Philadelphia have a plan? Bradford, Daniel, Wentz … it seems like three different decision makers are each taking a turn at the wheel.
by Alex 4:03PMApparently not. I understand why Bradford looks bad in all this _ asking for a trade, etc. But what’s with the Eagles? They give Bradford an $11 million signing bonus. Give Chase Daniel $6 million in signing bonus and roster bonus. Then use all those draft picks to trade up for a QB? If the Eagles want to give away money, they could send some to: Jim Thomas, c/o Sports Department,, St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
by jthomas 4:06PMJim, any tips on how I dress when I announce the Rams’ draft selection? A business suit or maybe something a little more Hollywood?
by Stan 4:07PMStan, I don’t really care.
by jthomas 4:07PMNice to see Rog get behind the San Diego project. The NFL really screwed St. Louis.
by Keith 4:07PMI get it. But again, if St. Louis had a tax initiative maybe he would’ve come here as well.
by jthomas 4:08PMHi Jim, Is there any truth to the news that Raiders are looking to move to Las Vegas? Seems like they will be sharing a new stadium with UNLV and Sands Group would be building the new stadium. Of course the owners have to approve the move. Business Insider reported this news today. finance.yahoo.com My question is why not St.Louis? If I’m not mistaken, the city came up with $400 million funding to keep the Rams in St.Louis and would be glad to have another team here. Thanks.
by SKarnam 4:09PMYes, I think Vegas has some legs. I’m sure the league feels it’s potentially a more lucrative market than StL.
by jthomas 4:10PMI’m tired of hearing don’t root for the Chiefs. Root for who you want to root for. I have some friends rooting for Tennessee now. That wasn’t an option between 1988 and 1994. I probably would too although I just happened to root for the Chiefs before the Rams came to St. Louis. I also have been to many games at Arrowhead. Great place to see a game!!
by KC Chief fan former STLRamMan 4:10PMThere are few atmospheres quite like the Sea of Red in KC.
by jthomas 4:11PMFisher did plenty of diligence prior to “inheriting” Bradford. He went in with eyes wide open… which only makes Thursday scarier for Rams fans.
by Tackleberry 4:11PM
PermalinkNo doubt.
by jthomas 4:11PMThe Chicago Tribune did a story on the Rams moving process, and one part really got to me about how management had decided to ditch everything that had “St. Louis” on it. Not surprising, because what are they gonna do with STL stuff in LA, but still, what a bunch of ungrateful donkeys, casually throwing away 21 years of history and support that they didn’t deserve.
by David L 4:11PMYeah, I read that somewhere although I don’t think it was in the Tribune. In any event, it fits in with what Demoff said at that high school presentation _ that it felt strange saying “St. Louis” Rams. Why go there?
by jthomas 4:14PMWhen the owners get together to vote on something, like the Rams-Chargers-Raiders situation, who votes for the Packers? The mayor of Green Bay? How is it decided to fire the president/GM/coach of that franchise?
by Alex 4:14PMThat’s a good question, but I think all of that falls to president/CEO Mark Murphy.
by jthomas 4:15PMIf you were the Broncos, whom would you go with: Mark Sanchez, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Colin Kaepernick, or Paxton Lynch?
by Alex 4:16PMFor short-term, I’d say Fitzpatrick. But if they could somehow get Lynch _ and I can’t see that happening minus a trade-up _ I could see going with Sanchez this year and then Lynch.
by jthomas 4:16PMHi Jim, sometimes I do have some sympathy for players who hold out, because sometimes owners do treat players unfairly and sometimes players can get cut anytime, etc. but with Bradford I am just not seeing anything. The Eagles offered him more than some starting qb’s make and he accepted it. Whether or not it makes sense for the Eagles to pay that much to a caretaker qb is their problem.
by Jim Otis 4:17PMAs goofy as the Eagles are, and you can’t blame Chip Kelly anymore, I don’t think anyone has any sympathy for Sam Bradford on this one.
by jthomas 4:18PMBradford could have been the long term QB with the Rams if he would have agreed to reduce his salary to match his play. Correct?
by Todd 4:18PMDon’t know about long-term, but I think had he agreed to that proposed pay cut he’d still be here. But it was a very severe pay cut.
by jthomas 4:19PMJim – if Stan Kroenke would have been in attendance last night at Scottrade he might have gotten the point about what it means to put a COMPETETIVE team on the fiels, when it comes to fan support.
by DrMizzou 4:20PMI don’t think he really cares about all that,, at least not very much.
by jthomas 4:20PMThe Rams are kinda like the ex-girlfriend. You know it’d be better for you to quit them, and you want to, but you can’t help but check in from time to time to see what’s up, curse when things are going well for them, and hope to celebrate a potential downfall.
by David L 4:20PMYep.
by jthomas 4:20PMHi Jim, The Rams are going to need to be creative to add some players, is that WR from Jacksonville totally out of football. Blackmon maybe?
by simdaddy 4:22PMI sure liked him coming out. But I don’t think he’s played in the league since 2013 because of those substance abuse issues. Can’t see it happening for that reason.
by jthomas 4:26PMDidn’t the Rams get a 2nd round pick for Vermeil to coach the Chiefs? What would Fisher bring? A bag of doughnuts or some copy paper?
by Todd 4:26PMTough crowd as we wind it down for this week.
by jthomas 4:27PMTre Mason have any trade value?
by simdaddy 4:27PMMinimal, especially with possible league discipline on the horizon.
by jthomas 4:28PMAre the Rams going to draft a Center in this draft that they can groom for the future? If they intend to have Rhaney as a starter, I think Gurley will have a short career. I like Rhaney’s athleticism, but he does not have the strength IMO. He looked like he was tossed like a rag doll in limited action last year. Is Boehm a possibility?
by Todd 4:28PMWell, they had a formal interview with center Evan Boehm of Missouri at the combine, and he could be there in the fourth round.
by jthomas 4:29PMI would love to see the MLS here, but at the same time it would be nice to have an NFL team as well. Just look at the passionate fan support last night. can’t say SLT isn’t passionate about their teams.
by Mike 4:30PMThis is a great sports town.
