Rams can still secure the No. 1 seed in the NFC if they win out and Seattle loses to Carolina or SF in their final two games.

eagles: up 26-7 in the 3rd, lost.
niners: up 20-7 in the 3rd, lost.
hawks: up 30-14 in the 4th, lost.

    brutal.

the good news: reached the postseason again, for the 7th time in the 9 seasons mcvay has been hc, and have as good a chance as anyone to make a sb run.

    go rams!

The Rams had 581 yards of offense, the most in the NFL this season and their most since 2000, per ESPN Research.

LA is the first team in NFL history to record 500 yards of offense, have a +3 turnover margin or better and lose. Teams were 93-0 in those games entering Thursday.

Seahawks are just unique in weird ways. The Rams needed FOUR INTs to beat them by two points last time. This time they get THREE INTS and lose by one point.

    There we go. The math.

So to defeat them by 3 points, you would need at least 5 turnovers.

We’ll call it the first law of the Rams/Seattle rivalry.

The Rams are still the favorite for the Super Bowl with a very real chance of being the 6th seed. Kind of wild.

I thought Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford showed some good composure and class after the game last night with some tricky topics to talk through.

I’ve covered many a head coach and quarterback who would not have handled it so well.

    Key word: maaaaany.

    My thoughts?

Well since you asked, my thoughts are that the absence of Lake has something to do with this slide. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think that Lake is Ed Reed, but he is a heady player and the qb of the secondary. He is missed. The loss of McCreary while not responsible for the downturn is also unfortunate.

Some analyst or other pointed out that Lake was their “wild card” who could cover, play traditional safety, and play in the box. This versatility allowed the Rams to disguise coverages.

Plus he was always smart about diagnosing plays and therefore being where he needed to be to support the CBs.

There’s no one else on the roster who can do ALL the things Lake did. That means they not only miss him as a player, they miss the “chess game” advantage they get from disguising coverages the way they could with him in there.

    But!

He’ll be back soon. So will Adams. So will Dotson. Maybe Witherspoon too. And between now and the playoffs they have 2 relatively less challenging games, Atlanta and Arizona. So they can win in the meanwhile and then enter the post-season at full strength.

Remember that in 2021 they lost every game in November and made the playoffs as a wild card.

Yes, and I think that’s why for some crazy reason I didn’t feel nearly as invested in the loss to Seattle. Usually I am an emotional mess after any loss, especially to a divisional foe. Maybe it’s just me compensating, but the fact that the Rams had already clinched a playoff spot combined with the fact that in the past McVay hasn’t seemed too concerned about seeding, I’m not too worried about things. The Rams seem just as likely to win or lose on the road as they do at home. Stafford seems completely unaffected by road games as does the rest of the offense. If Adams, Dotson, Higbee and Lake are ready for the playoffs, the Rams have as good a chance as any team to win the NFC. I would love to see Verse start heating up in the sack department though.
