the davante adams effect:no one throws the ball more on 1st and 2nd downs at the opponent 5 and closer than the rams (60% of the time).
the league average is just 37%, with only 2 other teams above 50% (54% and 53%).
prior to this season, the rams average was 36% under mcvay.

Teams with 30+ pass TDs & under 17 PPG allowed through 11 games:đź”· 1984 Dolphins (Marino 1st MVP)

đź”· 2025 Rams (Stafford 1st MVP?)

When asked about being a candidate for a head coaching job, Rams DC Chris Shula said while he thinks that’s the gaol for any NFL coach, “that doesn’t mean you’re just going to walk away for any single opportunity.”“I love it here, my family loves it here,” Shula said.

Rams DC Chris Shula on the head coaching speculation around him: “I’ve been here 9, 10 years while coaching with my best friend, a great group of players, a great staff. For the right opportunity, we’ll see, but I’m not thinking about it too much right now.”November 26, 2025 at 8:22 pm #159706

This seems like the appropriate place for me to insert my perennial complaint about the lack of a top notch Center. I’ve wanted one since the dawn of the internet.

Shelton actually gets reviews grading him anywhere from solid to pretty good. I think that in his case, he has the smarts and a disposition for the position, is not a great athletic center but is serviceable when it comes to that, and benefits a lot from having Wendell as a coach–and I continue to believe that Wendell is the best Rams OL coach in a long line of good OL coaches going back to Hanifan.
He is not the dream center you want, but still, he is holding up pretty well.
A few examples…though, OL grades are notoriously divergent from source to source and sometimes with the same source (like PFF, which always seems to act like the last game they lookd at is The Truth of All). Given that I generally just read them to get a sense of the range. The range with Shelton seems to be, as I said, from solid to pretty good.

from PFF, Nov. 13: https://www.pff.com/news/ranking-the-nfls-highest-graded-run-blockers-and-defenders-in-week-10
Center: Coleman Shleton, Los Angeles Rams – 90.3
The Rams’ offense continues to fire on all cylinders. While Matthew Stafford and the passing game get all the shine, the team’s run game has been fantastic. The Rams’ offensive line is currently PFF’s highest-graded run-blocking unit, and Coleman Shelton is a big reason for it. Shelton is having a career year, as he’s played just one game with a PFF run-blocking grade below 60.0. The veteran currently tied for the highest-graded run-blocking center (88.6).
2.
from SI, Nov. 7: https://www.si.com/nfl/rams/onsi/los-angeles-continue-scre-wins-underratted-offseason-move
Coleman Shelton has only allowed one sack on 290 pass blocking snaps in 2025, according to TruMedia,” stated the Rams PR Team. “He also ranks 7th in offensive grade (74.4) and 5th in run blocking grade (83.3) among all centers (min 50% snaps played), per @PFF.”
…
LaFleur spoke on the Rams’ offensive line on Thursday, mentioning the work of Shelton.“Amongst that group, they believe in each other,” stated LaFleur. “They work well with each other. I think [Center] Coleman [Shelton] in the middle just provides such a great leadership for that group. I think [Offensive Line Coach] Ryan Wendell has done a terrific job with those guys relaying information.”
“He’s one of the smartest humans I’ve been around in terms of coaching. He just says things so easily to absorb the information, so easy to absorb. I think just all in all that group has performed well.”
3.
On pass block win rate compared to other guards & centers, Shelton ranks 12th with 96%. In terms of the team as a whole, the Rams rank 7th in pass block win rate and 7th in run block win rate, which obviously you can’t do unless your center is at least solid. That’s all here:

Yeah, I know. You’re right. I’m not complaining about Shelton, or any of the other centers over the past 40 years, but right now, we have two dream guards, and the OTs are also holding up well, and I think a dream center would have made Vita Vea invisible last week. And the Rams didn’t need to make Vea invisible. IIRC, they won handily. But I grew up in the 60s and 70s, and the Rams’ OLs and DLs just mauled everybody, and I recall those days with affection.

I didn’t provide all that info on Shelton “to be right,” btw, it was genuine curiosity/interest in how he was doing. Truth is, I didn’t know quite how well he was doing till I looked that stuff up.

The Best Division in the NFL. The Rams have the lead and the Seahawks are hoping they slip up a couple of times. To lose the division, they’d have to slip up at least twice. The Rams need to beat the teams they should beat and they should prevail. Seattle has their hands full with their schedule. The Rams, Colts and Niners will be tough games; they should beat the Falcons and Panthers but they better not overlook the Vikings today. I don’t think they will. The niners have two tough games, the Colts and the Seahawks, and they’re already 2 games out of the lead. Like Seattle, they better not overlook the Browns today. Bad weather, a stellar defense and a team with nothing to lose.
