The LA Rams improved to 4-1 and put the smack down on the Washington Football Team this past Sunday. It was a complete and dominating performance where the Rams asserted their dominance over the hapless WFT.
By doing so, the Rams improved to 6-1 on early east coast games under Sean McVay and swept the woeful NFC East. Not only did the Rams win convincingly, but NFC West rival 49ers were rocked by the Miami Dolphins, giving the Rams a two-game advantage in the division.
While all facets of the team clicked, the defense stood out, limiting the WFT to 108 total yards, 38 rushing yards, 2.2 yards per play and 1.8 yards per pass. Aaron Donald went off with four sacks bringing his NFL-best total to 7.5. He is on pace for 24 sacks. Yikes. Teammate Troy Reeder filled in for injured middle linebacker Micah Kiser and had three sacks of his own. Donald and Reeder are the first Rams since Robert Quinn and Chris Long in 2013 to have at least three sacks each in the same game.
The secondary was equally impressive in limiting Terry McLaurin and the other wide receivers to only five catches for 27 yards. Darious Wiliams and Jalen Ramsey not only locked it down, but they were all over the field tackling everyone in sight.
In terms of the offense, Jared Goff had another efficient game throwing for over 300 yards and two touchdowns (while rushing for a TD). Goff connected with tight end Gerald Everett early and often and then hit Robert Woods for a long touchdown. Running backs Darrell Henderson and Cam Akers ran well but didn’t see daylight until Akers broke off the longest run of the day.
The offensive line played extremely well in pass protection allowing only two pressures all game. Andrew Whitworth and Rob Havenstein played exceptionally well against two formidable edge rushers.
At the end of the day, the Rams stayed extremely balanced on offense (30 passes vs 35 rushes) and let their defense loose. Let’s hope they take this momentum to Levi’s Stadium next Sunday against the hated 49ers.
