My understanding is 6-to-8 weeks is the minimum #Saints QB Drew Brees will miss because of the ligament damage in his thumb. All depends on the type of surgery he ends up having. That raises the possibility of placing him on IR, which would sideline him at least 8 weeks.

Things change….
Drew Brees has missed only one start due to injury since high school — when he was ruled out of a Week 3 game at the Carolina Panthers in 2015 with a shoulder injury.
Ben Roethlisberger has not missed a game due to injury since Week 7 of the 2016 season.

This is why you pay your backup QB $7.25 million. If you lose your starter for the year, you’re probably screwed. But with an injury like Brees’, it’s incredibly valuable to have someone who can keep you afloat for a stretch.
Saints believe Teddy Bridgewater can do that.

If the Saints decide to put Drew Brees on IR for the thumb surgery that is required, he would be unable to practice for six weeks and would to miss eight games. Saints also could not place him on IR and bring him back when ready.
