ModeratorShame about the 9’ers. Yet another wasted season. Next year all those talented players will be another year older, another year closer to the end of their contracts, another year closer to the end of their competitive window. Another year closer to the end. If they had just blocked better on that play in which Purdy got hurt. If their vaunted front 7 just hadn’t been dominated by the Eagles’ o-line which allowed them to run at will and control the game… There’s nothing as agonizing as potential unfulfilled. “For all sad words of tongue and pen, the saddest are these, ‘it might have been.” I feel terrible for all those 9’er fans out there. I wish there was something I could do to relieve their suffering. Yup, it’s a damn shame.
‘Zine it.

ModeratorWagner proved he’s still among the very best inside linebackers in the game. Top Three, easily. Ramsey also had a fine year, and I think he’s arguably Top Three as well. If I’m the Rams, I don’t make that trade, and that’s coming from someone who really, really wants the Rams to trade for high draft picks. Wagner’s intangibles are off the charts. Leadership, football IQ, mentorship, etc. etc. Tough as nails. Yes, he’s going into his age 33 year, but he’s showing little in the way of decline. Ramsey, into his age 29 year, also seems to be going strong, and has evolved into a strong leader with the Rams. Both are serious “core” guys. The person who might make the better trade for the Rams? It would have been unthinkable for me to say so even earlier this year, but it’s Donald. He’s entering his age 32 season, but that’s not the issue for me. No sign of slowing down. Every sign that he’s still in his peak window. It’s his likely retirement. If not this season, then next. While he’s basically Mr. Ram, the Rams have traded several Mr Rams in the past, like Gabriel, Dickerson, Bettis, or players close to that, like Hacksaw. And they let Deacon Jones slip away, which was unforgivable to me. Anyway, I don’t think they’ll trade Donald, or Wagner, but I can see them moving Ramsey. Just don’t include Wagner or any other core guy, unless the other team backs up the truck and pours several first rounders on their heads.
At the start of the season, NFL executives, coaches, and players voted Wagner as the #8 LB in the entire league, and he did nothing this year to tarnish his reputation.
PFF has Ramsey rated as the #1 CB.
Lions fans who think that their #18 overall pick is too much to give up for both of those guys AND a 5th round pick are simply homers who have no clue.

ModeratorRams not only will say no, but they laugh at it. They are not giving them up, for something that low. The Lions would have to give us back the 6th pick, along with the 18th pick, this years 3rd round pick, and next years 1st round pick. and Aiden Huchinson, for the deal to work.
What’s funny is that Lions fans are reacting to that and saying they wouldn’t make that trade because Wagner and Ramsey are washed up.

ModeratorRams hire Mike LaFleur as next offensive coordinator under Sean McVay
LaFleur moved on from the Jets after two seasons as OC
The Los Angeles Rams are in the midst of reshuffling a bunch of positions on Sean McVay’s coaching staff. That to-do list got a bit shorter on Friday as the club has hired Mike LaFleur to be its next offensive coordinator, according to CBS Sports NFL Insider Josina Anderson. LaFleur had been looked at as the favorite to land the gig after he and the New York Jets mutually decided to part ways earlier this offseason, and Anderson reported on Thursday that he had “the inside track” to the gig he’s ultimately secured.
During the period McVay was still mulling his own future in the NFL before deciding to return to remain L.A.’s head coach, the Rams did see former offensive coordinator Liam Coen return to the University of Kentucky to be its OC after one season in the NFL. Coen was hired by the Rams after Kevin O’Connell accepted the head-coaching job of the Minnesota Vikings last offseason.
During the 2022 campaign, the Rams were ravished by injured on both sides of the ball, but particularly on offense where both quarterback Matthew Stafford and wideout Cooper Kupp were eventually shut down for the year. In part due to those injuries, Los Angeles’ offense struggled, ranking 23rd in the NFL in DVOA and last in the league in total yards per game (280.5).
They’ll look to turn that around with LaFleur, who has familiarity with McVay due to their connection with 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan. Prior to becoming the Jets’ offensive coordinator in 2021, LaFleur climbed the coaching ladder under Shanahan through stops with the Browns, Falcons and 49ers. In San Francisco, he was the passing game coordinator before making the leap to OC with New York. McVay also worked under Shanahan from 2010 to 2013 while in Washington. With the Jets, LaFleur did not find tremendous success on the offensive side of the ball. In 2021, the club ranked 31st in both points and total yards yet did see much improvement in 2022 as it was 25th in total yards and 31st in passing touchdowns. A lot of that was due to the insufficient play at the quarterback position, particularly in the final three weeks of this season for New York where the team averaged just five points per game.
Despite those struggles on offense, LaFleur and the Jets mutually agreed to part ways so the OC could pursue other opportunities around the league. Now, he’s found that next opportunity in Los AngelesZooey
ModeratorThe Chargers don’t suffer from envy of their big brother, or anything.
I hope they hire Jerrod Johnson’s. It’s a peculiar last name, but I’m sure he is what they need.

ModeratorYall may want to watch Skip Bayless suffer.
Oh, I do.
My consolation for this lost season is that it was lost early. Watching the agony of Minnesota and Dallas fans ends the season on a sweet note for me.
49ers next to go down. Glory be.

ModeratorThey have a lot of day 3 picks
Yeah. 10 picks is good. I would expect OL and secondary, maybe a TE in there. But, like you, I think the OL is in pretty good shape.
I’ll bet they take another RB, too.
Zooey
ModeratorJust my opinion, but i think the WR group in general except for Kupp is mediocre. I dunno if they can upgrade, but Kupp needs some help. w v
Too bad they don’t have a guy like Robert Woods.
I dunno. I still have hope for Robinson, though I didn’t see many games this year, but just based on the stuff I read around the trade. But Jefferson must be near the end of his deal, and he’s not ever headed to the Pro Bowl. The Rams do need another WR, seems to me. And another edge player, and secondary help.
And another long-snapper, so help me god.

ModeratorThey haven’t used a draft pick earlier than the very late 3rd, for instance, in several years on that line. Not saying that 1st and 2nds are ever guarantees. We see all kinds of busts there all around the league, and the Rams have had their share.

ModeratorBlaine Grisak@bgrisakDTRCarberry leaving is a mild surprise. Given the injuries to the OL, not sure how much of the overall performance can be pinned on him. Tough business. Curious if it has more to do with changes McVay wants to make in the run game.It could be that Carberry just isn’t an effective promoter of culture. It could be a lot of things. I doubt it’s because the OL allowed sacks.

The Los Angeles Rams will see significant changes on their coaching staff as eight members will not return next season, multiple team and league sources told The Athletic. Here’s what you need to know:
- Special teams coach Joe DeCamillis, offensive line coach Kevin Carberry, defensive backs coach Jonathan Cooley, assistant defensive line coach Skyler Jones and defensive assistant Lance Schulters were all let go. Outside linebackers coach Thad Bogardus’ contract was up and won’t be renewed.
- Offensive coordinator Liam Coen (Kentucky) and running backs coach Ra’Shaad Samples (Arizona State) both left for other jobs; Samples’ departure was in-season.
- McVay has already started searching for replacements, per team and league sources.
- The Rams finished 5-12 last season, third in the NFC West.
Late last week, Sean McVay parted with several assistant coaches, multiple people with knowledge of the moves said. Special teams coach Joe DeCamillis, OL coach Kevin Carberry, DBs coach Jonathan Cooley, asst DL coach Skyler Jones and def asst Lance Schulters

ModeratorRobert Woods was maybe my favorite current Ram – he was certainly “up there” – and I did not like the trade. Allen Robinson did nothing this year to change my mind, but I still give it another year before I pronounce the trade “bad.” I’m not sure that he had a full chance to earn his keep, but it doesn’t look good at this point. To me, anyway. I missed far more games than I saw, though.
Zooey
ModeratorI would not trade Jalen Ramsey.
Zooey
ModeratorThe main culprit was injuries as 24 players spent time on injured reserve, including their three best players. There was not enough quality depth to recover for a team that has traded away so many high draft picks in recent years.
Nobody has that much depth even if they have all their draft picks, and then some.
