ModeratorOne of the native (to WV) flowers I grow is Passion Flower. Its a vine and the blooms are purty cool, if you’ve never seen one.
I love those. I have a white one in my garden. A volunteer. Not sure where it came from, but I’m keeping it.

ModeratorI have 0.62 acres. A decent sized plot for within the city limits, I guess. More than enough space for gardening.
The soil is red clay and limestone, so we have raised beds with imported soil. I will post some photos sometime, maybe after getting everything planted. One of the major disadvantages of the nursery is that we don’t have time to plant our own garden until late. It should have been in 6 weeks ago, and I’m still preparing the soil. We have some stuff in.

ModeratorI grow heirloom veggies for the most part. I have around 30 different types of tomatoes, 8 types of cucumbers, 6 summer squash, 2 different pumpkins, watermelon, 2 types of cantaloupe, a honeydew, about 10 types of peppers from sweet to Habenero, 3 kinds of eggplant, 2 kinds of groundcherries, butternut squash, and just about every herb there is.
I grow multiple plants of each variety, so I produce about 10 times what my family eats. At least.
That’s my wife’s compulsiveness at work. She is prone to pushing everything waaay beyond necessary.
But it’s okay. She started a cottage nursery during Covid. She had been growing things from seed for a few years, and giving surplus plants away to family and friends, and during Covid, she decided to go Bold. So for our 3rd year now, we’ve grown about 2,500 plants (from seed), and sold most of them out of our driveway. We also donate around 100 plants (as many as we can!). There’s a church in town with a big garden that they use to grow food to provide to poor people, and homeless people. We grow plants for them, and help them plant them, and harvest them. There’s a food kitchen that has a garden, and a couple of schools/youth programs around that we also give plants to. Our surplus produce we give to another food closet in town. So it’s all good. It’s a lot of work, and more than I would like to do (although I enjoy gardening), but I console myself with the knowledge we are helping a lot of people. That’s cool.
This year was the best for the plants. The weather was perfect all Spring.
The Dodgers have about 2 pitchers right now. Everyone is DL or underperforming, so the Giants are catching the Ds at a good time, looks like.

That applies even though there are now 17 games each season.
Whatever happened to Old Hacker, anyway? Did he ride off into the sunset on his John Deere?

ModeratorI thought your point was the quick switch from a tragedy to the sports desk. A sign of the emptying out of sympathy and empathy for a fellow human and her family. Her being two makes the tragedy far worse, of course. I think I just misread you.
Oh, sure. You want me to believe there was miscommunication on the internet. Nice try, Billy, but you’re not getting away with that.

ModeratorWell, my point is…where’s the story? What is the purpose of literally ONE sentence saying a 2-year old girl was killed by Russians?
That’s not a news story. It is literally not a “story” at all. It’s simply a one sentence reminder that Russia is terrible. That’s 100% all that is. And now…the sports desk….

ModeratorYou know, this thread seems a little lop-sided against the cops.
Turns out that there’s a good reason for that.

ModeratorIf they’re bad enough in 2023, they could even find themselves in contention for the top two quarterbacks, Caleb Williams or Drake Maye, as Manzano mentioned.
Uh…no.

ModeratorI never saw Jim Brown play, so he might as well be Jim Thorpe. I just don’t know.
I did see him lay down the law in an interview once. Larry King, maybe. He had a lot of game between the ears. That’s all I know.

ModeratorI find reading the options exhausting. What is Sunday Ticket? Does it require a sat/cable subscription in order to pay even more to add it to the monthly package? I looked at the YouTube thing, but didn’t read through it all. A page or two with multiple questions
Zooey, Apologies if you already knew most or all of this already: I really don’t know much about the new Youtube version. But the old Sunday Ticket was started by DirecTV roughly 25 years ago. It was basically the only way to watch out of market games “live” at home. They used to offer it for free to new customers for their satellite package . . . but they almost always gave it to existing customers, too, who threatened to cancel. I was successful at doing that for years, primarily cuz I really meant it. Cancellation for me wasn’t an empty ploy, etc. I could take the service or leave it, and I think their reps could tell. So they’d virtually always give it to me for free, or with a very deep discount, to keep me as a subscriber. There was a running joke-thread on the old board for awhile, where posters would talk about how much they’d get from DirecTV in addition to the Sunday Ticket. Mortgage payments made, trips to Disney, etc. etc. Pretty funny. I think it started because one poster just couldn’t ever get anything from them, so we’d respond with ever more absurd freebies . . . :>) Anyway, all of that stopped not too long after ATT bought DirecTV. I could get Sunday Ticket for free early on, but then they cracked down, and just said “cancel, if you want to.” So I did. Was hoping Apple might win the bidding war, cuz I had a feeling they’d offer it for a much lower cost, and probably for free with a purchase of some Mac product. I doubt Google will do anything like that. It’s just too expensive for me to ever pay in full.
Thanks. I knew it was originally part of a satellite package, but I lost the plot on that. I knew there were changes, but I was streaming the Rams, so I just didn’t track what was happening.
There was never any way I was going to subscribe to a monthly cable/satellite package because I don’t watch much except the Rams. I have an antenna that gets a surprising amount of channels, but I use it only when there is some local news I really want to watch, or a weather disaster, or something. Like…twice a year. I’m not paying $500 a year for some damn service I will use so little that I will never remember what channel is what.
Now it looks like they are trying to get everyone to subscribe to Amazon and Peacock and Satellite and Apple and Paramount+ and Fuckknows in order to watch the goddam games.
I don’t like streaming from Europe on some laggy bullshit link I have to find every week, and I would gladly pay for the privilege of watching a reliable, honest stream, but they’ve just made it a labyrinthine boondoggle. I can’t sort it out.

ModeratorThe way I see it, the Rams won the Super Bowl with a unusual amount of elite players, a few good ones, and the rest were mostly young guys they got in late rounds, and then coached into coherency.
On offense, they had Stafford, Kupp, Beckham, and Whitworth as elite guys, and Havs and Higbee are good.
On defense they had Donald, Miller, Ramsey as elite, and Floyd is good. I don’t know what to call Eric Weddle.
Anyway, they have Donald left on defense, and Stafford and Kupp left on offense. Meaning that they are down to 3/7 elite players for this year. They have a ton of cap space for 2024 to rent more elite players, and they must know who is coming available next year, either through FA or for a trade. I think picking up 3 or 4 elite players with that cap space is doable.
Meanwhile, it’s interesting to me that the past two years, they have made their first picks Guards. I mean…Guards. Highly rated guards, two years in a row. I’m going to guess that that isn’t an accident. I don’t know what it means, but it means something. One or two of the film guys/posters commented that Avila doesn’t strike them as a “fit” for the Rams, but I don’t know what they mean by that. Maybe the Rams are planning to change what they are doing up front. Maybe the film guy is wrong. Maybe Snead is wrong.
I don’t know what it all means, but I do know it looks like the Rams are building for an assault in 2024 and see 2023 as a year to season a of guys along with the 2nd-year guys who are left manning the secondary. Apart from the 3 remaining elite players, the Rams just got a lot younger. On purpose. And they are going to add some very good vets to that mix next year.

ModeratorStupid pick. Truly stupid. With all the holes they have on this team, and all the starters they still need to add? They go for a backup QB, under six feet?
The 49ers drafted a K in Round 3.
And he didn’t even win the Lou Groza award.
