ZooeyModeratorThis week’s panels have been formatted to provide Sparky with proper social distancing!

ZooeyModeratorYeah, you know…stuff like this. This is a straight up Mob move, and nobody cares.
A couple of months ago, a bunch of politicians made millions on blatantly illegal insider trading information, and nobody cares.
Exit polls don’t match the results. Nobody cares. Jared and Ivanka are making millions by exploiting their positions in government. Nobody cares.
Today, a childhood friend of mine told me that Trump may have done things in the past, but he’s changed now, and has been forgiven, just like she has.
ZooeyModeratorAnd tens of millions of people will vote for a guy who does that to America. All because he hates the same people they do.
ZooeyModeratorThat’s not a cat, Magoo.
Oh, there goes Mr. Science again. Listen, a cousin of a friend of mine had a cat looked just like that.
ZooeyModeratorWell…I’m gonna just throw this out. I don’t think I’ve said this on this board.
I think the best argument to convince a leftist/progressive to vote for Biden is that it’s quite possibly the last chance to vote meaningfully.
If Trump wins. And the GOP has control. They will not only finish the redistricting job on the basis of this year’s census, they will pass more laws restricting/suppressing the vote, and probably put in more unaccountable electric voting machines, and back all that up with courts they will continue to stack. It will be Over over. You won’t be able to elect a progressive in 2024 even if there is one, and that person gets the most votes. They are THAT close to shutting off life support for democracy.
This country is drowning, and the only thing to grab is a rotten, water-logged piece of old driftwood. But that’s all there is. I mean…it would be better if there was a life preserver, but there’s not.

Living in the UK through this, I’m grateful there is no Fox News here. There’s plenty of polarization, but Britons are not gathering in crowds to protest lockdowns that save lives; there’s no media outlet calling thousands of deaths a “hoax”; no leader encouraging insurrection. Here we are. A country with Boris Fucking Johnson as PM, a guy who said the government should do NOTHING about the pandemic, that country feels sorry for Americans.

ZooeyModeratorI am pretty sure I read that Tara Reade told two associates in Biden’s office at the time of the incident, and both of them have confirmed it.
I also believe her. I believe it because she’s either telling the truth or a professional actor of more than usual ability, and because the story is so plausible it doesn’t even arouse my skepticism. Men in power do this quite a bit, and this was well before MeToo. It’s so common, in fact, that I read a woman defend Biden by making the argument that Every Single Man has sexually assaulted a woman at some point in his life. I was shocked that she believes that, but…on second thought, I had to admit that the charge is not as outlandish as I originally thought. I tend to believe that a LOT of men have been physically inappropriate.
While I think this reflects poorly on Biden, it’s not a difference-maker to me. I have a far bigger problem with his support of the Iraq War and the crime bill, and on and on. Those actions affect millions of people.
I have to say, btw, that I find it extremely ironic that the Democrats who have done almost nothing but bray about the necessity of beating Trump have nominated the person MOST LIKE him, rather than in contrast to him. He’s the most misogynistic, racist, mentally-compromised, and financially shady of all the candidates they had to choose from. WTF is that?
Also…I am apparently the only person who sees Sanders comments about “irresponsiblity” different from everyone else. If you read the surrounding sentences, it sounds to me like he is saying it is irresponsible not to remain involved in the progressive cause, and help pull Biden to the left. Of course, you can’t “pull” Biden if you don’t support him, but I thought Sanders was talking about commitment to progressivism.
ZooeyModeratorI read Dune for the first time a summer or two ago and liked it. Never read the sequels because I heard they weren’t good. I was glad to see a new movie was coming out. I never saw the first movie with Kyle and Sting, and heard that I wouldn’t understand it anyway since I’d never read the book.
I think the movie has made the still suits a little…slight. At least in my head, the still suit was more of a mask/helmet thing. Not good for acting, however.
ZooeyModeratorI don’t know what he is cutting or not cutting apart from Medicaid and one other “poor people item” that I don’t recall. It wouldn’t make any difference to me if it was “fair” in the sense that everything else was cut proportionately. I think the bottom HALF of the country should all get significant pay raises. You look at the increase in economic production over the past 40 years and overlay that with a graph of where that money has gone, and the bottom 80% of the country has had stagnant wages while wealth has greatly increased. That just isn’t right. The country is working harder, longer, and producing more, and not getting a slice of that wealth AT ALL, let alone a proportionate slice.
So when a politician says they want to make the most vulnerable people in our society do with even LESS?
Yeah. Not gonna get my support. Raise taxes. Or force employers to pay their workers more. Or force employers to provide benefits. Whatever.
But you’re not taken even more away from poor people with my support not matter what rationale you offer.
ZooeyModeratorI was teasing, W. But technically, California – under Newsom – declared a State of Emergency before NY did, and issued a Stay at Home order before NY did.
Doesn’t mean Cuomo hasn’t done a good job, or that California hasn’t learned from NY, but Newsom has been a step ahead in terms of reaction time. And Newsom is the one who has initiated a process of organizing states to cooperate while Trump imitates Nero.
ZooeyModeratorEast Coast bias
Gov of CA has done a much better job than Cuomo.
Newsome implemented quarantines sooner than NY did… Newsome took a lot of shit for doing that, but it’s paid off big time.
Newsome also dealt with medical equipment shortages better than NY did. So much so that CA has exported equipment surplus to needy states and countries.
Just be glad that John COCKS err Cox from Indiana didn’t win the Ca governor’s election a few years back… California would be a fucking mess today….
John Cox. I forgot about that guy. He was certainly a piece of work. He never had a chance, though.
Yeah, imo Newsom has done a better job, too. I’m also from CA, but what you said is true. Newsom acted faster, more comprehensively, and has emerged as a leader in organizing states together as a consortium to band together and negotiate to buy supplies and equipment, rather than descend into the bidding war that had started. It’s almost like…a bunch of States United got organized by an executive who operated in the best interest of the people nationwide. It’s kind of a weird concept, but it got me thinking…what if ALL the states did that? You know…united under an executive branch that made it a priority to look after the interest of people?
Waterfield, as you probably know, is also from California. So I’m a little surprised to see him two-timing with Cuomo.
ZooeyModeratorDies on Friday, comes back on Sunday. We’ve seen it all before.
ZooeyModeratorWell…see…that’s fine. I am fine with his leadership in this crisis. His personality doesn’t mean much to me, but I prefer his bedside manner to Trump’s.
He wants to cut the state budget on the backs of poor people, though. So…he’s a non-starter for me because that’s something I will never compromise on.
ZooeyModeratorLOL…
What’s funny is that there are rabbinical writings going WAY back that specifically instruct Rabbis how to please their wives and thus how to instruct men how to as well.
They specifically go into not only caressing the both the inner and outer labia, but specifically to ensure that she has pleasure. IIRC, oral sex of the woman by the man is also covered in those texts.
The idea that we all got hip to “kissing on the lips” in the 80s or whatever is just so…Evangelical…
To say nothing of kama sutra.
ZooeyModeratorSo basically minorities are going to be hit disproportionately with fatality from coronavirus.
Of course.
ZooeyModeratorI’ll vote green just like I did it 2016 because I like the perspective & sentiments from the Revolution Now post.
That said, all the criticism of Biden’s gaffes and old-age moments doesn’t impress me. I watched an hour or so of the debate between just Biden and Bernie and waited for Biden to fall apart.
He didn’t. He weaseled his way around Bernie’s attacks and had successful attacks of his own on Bernie’s votes against the Brady Bill. I was disappointed in Bernie. My wife, who doesn’t follow politics closely, just shook her head at the whole pathetic spectacle.
In one of the recent MSNBC interviews, where The Hill or TYT were left incredulous by Biden’s old-age moments, Biden was fine for 90% of the interview. He does look bad at times, but some of the lefty critics are focusing on his bad highlights.
Biden has many moments when he looks personable and charismatic. He’s no Mike Pence, Jeb Bush, or John Kerry. Biden’s more of a Case Keenum than a Russell Wilson, but he could win the big one with the right situation.
I agree with that. IMO, Biden has “senior moments.” You can see him flame out mid-sentence. Seems to me that he does it when he is giving a stock answer, the kind of political pablum answers, and all the cliches are poring out of him like they have been in every interview since he was a boy, and then he just forgets what the point of his own bullshit was. So…he’s old, and he’s not as sharp. But he hasn’t lost it. He isn’t senile. He is perfectly capable of making the same kinds of political decisions he always has, and I don’t think his mental decline is an issue.
Trump will attack it ruthlessly, and effectively, however, and for many people it WILL be an issue because…you know…people are morons.
But he might win. These days, I roll my eyes at all the bold announcements that Trump will destroy Biden. Who the fuck knows. Seriously. Coronavirus is going to completely destroy “normal” in this country in terms of sheer fear. And how the economic fallout of this will unravel depends a great deal on what the government does to keep people and business going. If Republicans keep shoveling money into Wall Street while giving people minimum wage, Trump will get punished. If the government actually enables people to keep their housing, and picks up the medical tab, Trump will be rewarded. This is a complete game changer. If someone came to me from the future and told me that Trump won by 20 points, or lost by 20 points, I wouldn’t have any problem believing them.
ZooeyModeratorInteresting. Yeah. I can see that.
ZooeyModeratorI dunno. I don’t know anything anymore. I thought the Democrat incompetence was going to allow Bernie to get through, but in Democrats first act of competence since they passed the incompetent ACA, they rallied together to stop Sanders…and give the country…Joe Biden?
This is it. This is the product of 4 years of regrouping after Hillary’s stunning loss. Joe Biden. It’s unbelievable just how inept this makes the party look.
ZooeyModeratorLoeffler should spend a couple of years in the Martha Stewart Condos.
