A lot of people out there talk about how bad Rypien was and there’s no disputing that. But honestly we’ve seen worse. Which is not being said as a defense of Rypien. In 2009 Keith Null had 1 game w/ 5 INTs & another w/ 3. In the 5 INT game he earned a qb rating of 38.7 (50.0 in the 3 INT game). Against GB, Rypien earned a qb rating of 49.5. Chris Chandler threw 6 INTs in 1 game (2004). Foles’s worst games in 2015 were particularly bad (in 1 game he completed 11 of 30 w/ qb rating of 23.7) Foles and Null were both playing with Steven Jackson. Chandler had both Faulk and Jackson.

He says with relish. Camel hair pants, too.

And now our local Seahawks fan thinks they make relish out of camel hair. 😯

Well now, that is a good plan. Still, it’s going to be hard to find a good QB when they are drafting in the 30s for the next three years, since they will have the money to stock the team next year, until Stafford is ready to retire. 🙂

Well I figure by the time Stafford is done, they can just trade a bunch of picks to Detroit for Jared Goff.

i could easily see him play out the remainder of his contract which would see him play through 2026 – his age 38 season.

Well I’m holding you to that. If it does not go the way you claim, you will be held responsible.

If they end up with a high pick I think they need to draft a QB. Caleb Williams, Michael Penix and Bo Nix are all legit. Even better if they can learn behind Stafford with some spot duty for a year or two.

I’m actually against drafting a qb high this year. Though I understand the argument for doing it.

what do you think is the better play?

Use the draft and free agency to bolster this team (the team they know they have at the end of the 23 season). Compete with Stafford and Donald and a team around them. Draft a qb after round 1 but use the high picks to strengthen the team as is–so, a top player at LOT, or CB, or edge, or DL. Best player out of those positions.

That’s because I think that Stafford is good for 2-3 more seasons (maybe more) and given that, it’s kind of a waste to sit a high-picked qb behind him.

Over the past two weeks, Rams safety Quentin Lake has allowed 0.62 yards per snap from the slot which ranks ninth out of 26 defensive backs with at least 35 slot reps.

IMO, add Lake to the list of emerging players from this season. Not Nacua level but still. Man, the Rams just keep finding safeties in rounds 6 & 7. From 2019 to 2022, that’s Yeast (who has shown some promise though he had a bad play against GB), plus Lake, Scott, and Fuller. It’s exciting that they are so confident about drafting solid safeties low (they obviously have a formula) that they just don’t sign any of them after they’ve done their 4 years. It becomes a low-cost position that is also solid.

Thomas Brown, the former Rams RB coach, is now the OC in Carolina, and their offense is struggling badly. You would have to think Brown would something to do with that. It’s a shame, he was a well-regarded coach with the Rams. Reports are though it’s not all on the OC though, far from it. It’s kind of a mess and that’s a shame, I was hoping Brown would be in a better situation and do well in it. He was a good Rams coach.

On top of it, their DC is  Ejiro Evero, another well-regarded Rams coach (secondary). Their defense is 8th in yards but 28th in points.

Well, I know Wentz has been a dick, but I am hoping he aint stupid.   If he aint stupid he will have learned something by watching what Baker Mayfield did.   Shut up, Get with the program, do well and revive yer career.

That’s the hope. I mean, it’s not just the Rams who didn’t sign him last spring or summer. People say look at the Vikes, they traded for Dobbs. Yeah & didn’t sign Wentz. He has a lot to clean up as a player and teammate. Maybe you’re right, maybe the time off had positive effects.

Carson Wentz’s 1-year deal with the Rams includes a $150,000 signing bonus and the prorated amount of a $1.165M base salary. He’s due $732,500 for the remainder of this season as the Rams’ new back-up QB.

If any of this ‘breaking tendencies’ stuff is true, then one would think it would lead McVay to be a better coach next year.

Rodrigue has written about it. It’s in the last third of her article in this thread: media, twitter, some plays, the big articles, etc. … GB game

he’s gotta be better than rypien.

That pretty much sums up all I have to say about Wentz, and about all I expect from Wentz.

Well…yeah. He’s a 8 year veteran. Veteran of 92 games. Has 2 winning seasons behind him. (That’s presented as a positive–he has lots of experience, and that includes a couple of winning seasons.)

Is Byron Young a ‘rising star’ or is he just one more pass-rusher on the Rams who looks better than he is, because 99 is on the field and taking up so much attention. w v

How often have they even had that? Fowler in 2019, Floyd in 2020 & 2021 (then disappeared in 2022). Von Miller in 2021 but really just in the playoffs. That represents a lot of money and draft picks for 2 rentals and then Floyd, who got super bowl victory sickness in 22 and was no longer worth the money.

Young is a physical phenom. Rookie pass rushers picked after round 1 rarely do as well as he is  doing. He doesn’t have the crazy “bend” the stellar edge rushers do but he is fast and he is relentless and he’s learning. If he has enough in him to take advantage of Donald’s presence, well, that’s a good 3rd round pick. He’ll be a Ram for 4 years for far less then what the other 3 I listed cost.

These are rookie years, btw. Not all-time season reception leaders. I didn’t make that clear. This graph is for rookie seasons.

Well if he stays at the same pace he was averaging 7 catches a week…though of course his pace is slowing down (with Kupp back and with inuries and with qb issues).

But the same pace would mean 56 catches in the remaining games, which in total would put him at 119, and that would set a new record. To beat the current record of 104 by one (so obviously getting 105), he would need 42 catches, which averages out to 5.25 per game.

That could work though I don’t know what “0.25 of a catch” means.

    😎
