    from https://theramswire.usatoday.com/2023/12/15/rams-sean-mcvay-puka-nacua-draft-les-snead/?taid=657eb898b8d6bc0001431d13&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=twitter

There was no bigger steal in the NFL draft this year than Puka Nacua. As a fifth-round pick, he’s already turned in an 1,100-yard season and still has four games remaining, putting him in striking distance of the single-season rookie receiving record.

The Rams selected him with the third of their three fifth-round picks, the final selection in Round 5 at No. 177 overall. Though they clearly liked Nacua more than the other 31 teams, they very easily could’ve missed out on the rookie sensation.

Needless to say, Sean McVay wouldn’t have been a very happy camper if that happened. He joked on Friday that he might’ve choked out Les Snead if the Rams didn’t draft Nacua when they had.

“When it was getting down to it, I might’ve choked Les out if we had missed out on Puka when we were waiting so long to be able to take him,” McVay said with a smile. “But he’s a stud and we’re really grateful to have him.”

Nacua was injured often in college, which McVay admits was “maybe a reason he was available when he was” in the fifth round. Had Nacua put together a healthy career in college, he might’ve gone much sooner because there was a lot to like about his game.

“The toughness, the aggressive hands, just the competitor,” McVay said. “And you could see with a lot of the different things he was asked to do, the football acumen and IQ, you had to guess was really high before you even talked to him based on the versatility of his game.”

The Rams should put up over 30 points, and the Redskins shouldn’t score over 20. But, you know, football.

I don’t know, man. What is the Rams historical record against teams named after a military rank?

Tone deaf choice of replacement names from Washington ownership. Someone in that organization must have read Margaret Atwood’s Handmaid’s Tale, or have seen the Hulu adaptation. Rams 30 Gilead 17

The name that was bandied about that I liked best was ‘Red Tails’ – the name of a squadron of P51 Mustangs flown by the Tuskegee airmen.

I like the Rams. A simple, forceful name derived from military history, referring to a siege weapon used to assault fortifications, a fitting description of a football team.

Sometimes, as shown in the pic, rams would be carved with the images of goat’s heads.

3 games today, and 4 of the 6 teams played without their starting qb.

Why, in this era of QB whisperers, are so many backup QBs not being whispered to?

they’d almost certainly have won a game (or two? three?) more w Pickett in there…but it’s hard to shrug off w Jake Browning, Bailey Zappe & Joe Flacco doing what they’ve done lately. Feels like the issue is more systematic (& it seems like the team’s just plain quit).

    Well done, Cincinnati.

So Jake Browning out duels Nick Mullens for the 27-24 win. As was written in the prophecies.

The key thing here is that both Green Bay and Minnesota have 1-game losing streaks, and are trending in the right direction.

Yep. (My snark about Mullens and Browning was not aimed at your comment, it was just a snide reference to the unbelievable level of qb injuries this year. Sry, that wasn’t clear. I was thinking along the lines of comments like this, from twitter:

    Ross Tucker@RossTuckerNFL
2023: The year everyone who didn’t already know it realized just how important your team’s backup QBs are.)

    Anyway. Back to different snark.

GB and Minn losing puts the Rams in a good position, which just once again goes to show–the Rams just absolutely cluelessly suck at tanking. They do not have the first clue how to tank.

Next thing you know they will not only be in the playoffs but on a super bowl run.

    The very OPPOSITE of tanking.

Say goodbye to all those great high draft picks–which they could have used to help them build a playoff team.

the rams are currently -6.5 vegas home favorites vs washington.

since mcvay has been hc, the rams are 19-5 when -6.5 or greater home faves, and 7-1 since stafford has been in horns.

Super Bowl LXI at end of 2026 season will be played at SoFi Stadium. Does Matthew Stafford anticipate he will still be playing for Rams? “I have no idea,” he said. “That’s a long way away.”
