sanbaggerParticipant
I agree with your points ZN but only to a degree.
In point 2 you state the O-line being bad is a myth and I completely disagree with that.
Yep…Keenum is better at reads and adjustments than Goff….and also Keenum, at one point, was among the league leaders at time to get rid of the football. That tells me everything was quick drops and quick reads with a priority at getting rid of the football.
We knew Goff was gonna be behind Keenum in reads and he would be confused by the D more easily than the experienced Keenum…no surprise there.
The O-line was continually pushed back…kinda why they passed on 3rd and 2 and kinda why TG is near the lead as far as getting hit in the backfield….they had no shot to get the push to enable the RB to get the 1st down. No sense in running a play action pass, it wouldn’t fool anyone in the stadium…the line just could not get it done and is the single most important upgrade required going in to next year, IMO.
December 13, 2016 at 7:52 am in reply to: Rams will wear Blue and White helmets on Thursday vs Seattle #60907sanbaggerParticipantWhat year did you become a ram fan?
1974…the year my family moved back to the states from down under.
sanbaggerParticipantHarbaugh is very good.
I believe H knows football and can put a decent product on the field….I just think he has a personality disorder that wouldn’t go over in SO Cal.
Gruden has been in the media for a while now and has built relationships with the guys on the other side of the mic…I think he would have a much longer leash with them.

sanbaggerParticipantI talked with another poster based in New England and he said the reports he’s getting up there are Patricia will be gone to be HC but they want to hang on to McDaniels to take over when BB retires.
does mcdaniels want that though?
i will say this. whoever it is i gotta think this is an attractive job. talented roster and an owner who is patient and hands off.
Not sure but depending on BB’s time line I’m sure he would love to take NE over.
Just read another guy saying Gruden with Martz as OC. I think this has zero chance to happen, but we are allowed to dream at this time right?
sanbaggerParticipanti know people want a big name, but i want mcdaniels. i think he’d be different than the guy who coached denver.
Didn’t Kroenke read BB’s book? I’m pretty confident they’ll at least check on his interest.
I talked with another poster based in New England and he said the reports he’s getting up there are Patricia will be gone to be HC but they want to hang on to McDaniels to take over when BB retires.
sanbaggerParticipantMort mentioned Harbaugh and Gruden.
I don’t think it will be either of them….but, of the 2 I would take Gruden over Harbaugh every day of the week. We wouldn’t even need the Russians to sway my vote on this one.
sanbaggerParticipantJust found out they fired Fisher…just wow.
I find it curious they are gonna go with Fassel, who only has experience as a ST guy, when Fish has,I believe, 3 former head coaches on the payroll.
sanbaggerParticipantThanks for posting this…didn’t get to see the game, so I enjoyed the hi-lites.
Just from that I saw a few things, maybe you guys can help if I what I saw was what played out the entire game.
1) Hav just could not handle Beasley on that outside speed rush. He needed to have a TE help with a chip and I didn’t see him getting any help.
2) It seemed every time, with the exception of the bomb that nobody covered the receiver, the Falcons went for a TD it was against Jordan…was Ryan picking on Jordan? Looked like he had decent PFF number 69 something.
3) Gurley had some words with Goff and Weinke
4) When Goff ran the ball in and was crushed, it looked to me like 84 Hemmingway? was streaking across the middle still in his route. If he had known what was going on, and I get it was an option, then he could have blocked the guy that crushed Goff. Was it a 3 way option? possible but not likely IMO.
sanbaggerParticipantWe just completely differ on every word of that
OK…That’s kinda why I frequent these forums. I enjoy reading what others thoughts are.
I feel when I start seeing these kinds of things in the media, it usually means the end is near for a coach.
I started the year 100% convinced Fisher was returning…right now I think I’m running at about 45%. The changing of the tide for me hasn’t been the losing, it’s what is getting reported in the media, by players and to a much lesser degree the unspecified sources. I also took the sideline disagreement between Fisher and GW seriously. It all is adding up for me.
December 12, 2016 at 9:56 am in reply to: Rams players stand behind embattled coach Jeff Fisher #60747sanbaggerParticipantIt’s not surprising that his players would come out strong for him. He brought most of them here. They’re HIS guys. And I will say one thing about Fisher: players seem to like him. He really does seem to be a player’s coach. I don’t see him as a guy who players turn on–even if things are going bad. I believe they genuinely do like him. And that’s a very positive thing.
You WANT that.
I think that’s a plus for Fisher.
But at the end of the day–if those same players do not perform–it doesn’t matter. They aren’t prepared to play. That’s the bigger issue. No amount of love for the coach matters if it doesn’t translate to wins on Sunday. We see the same things over and over. And I am sure Fisher brings up penalties, and mistakes all the time with these guys. What coach wouldn’t? Maybe it’s the players themselves–just unable to focus. If that’s the case –it’s still on Fisher. They are his guys. Him and Snead.
They own all of it. The whole package.
So player respect and love is a good thing. But it has to lead to wins.
That’s a good post and I agree with all of it.
sanbaggerParticipantNot to me it can’t be taken that way.
It seems to me that Gurley doesn’t agree with your assessment.
I get that he was frustrated but sometimes that’s when players are the most honest.
I read the other attachment you gave and honestly the only one that stood at to me was Saffold.
I get that coaches are trying and I also believe it’s on the Joes to perform…but if the Joe keeps making the same mistake game after game the coaches have to say enough is enough and show them what part of the bench you want them to sit at. They did this to Grob, and even that’s a little suspect IMO…I think it was a strategic benching because the next 2 DE’s were guys he could post 2 decent games and make it appear as though it was a great move.
sanbaggerParticipantThe team is going through the motions. That’s usually an indicator a coach is on his last legs.
I see them defending the coaches. I took that remark about “the motions” as being aimed at the players. I didn’t read into it anything other than TG being frustrated and asking players to step up. I also didn;t see anything on the field that indicates players quitting. I did see that with Linehan so it’s easy to spot when it’s happening.
Another article on this:
link: http://theramshuddle.com/topic/rams-players-stand-behind-embattled-coach-jeff-fisher/
Couldn’t that be considered another example of going through the motions?
I didn’t watch the game, just kept up with the Huddle chat, so I can’t say I watched guys mailing it in, but I’ll say this…the best part of my day/night was the Lambchops I put on the grill.
sanbaggerParticipantif they can’t win one game over the next three games. well what is there left to do?
If they only win one…please let it be against the dam niners…I just don’t like those guys.
sanbaggerParticipantI like the positivity Zn…usually that’s something I try and do, find something to hang your hat on.
IDK…I have this feeling that what TG was saying is true. The team is going through the motions. That’s usually an indicator a coach is on his last legs. I have been a firm believer that Fish was coming back next year, but now with 2 weeks in a row playing the other teams back-ups in the 4th quarter has me thinkin, maybe I have been wrong about that.
One thing I am certain about though…is this team is deserving of the 32nd offensive ranking.
December 9, 2016 at 8:33 am in reply to: informal poll: what's wrong with the offense, can it pick up? #60605sanbaggerParticipantVery good points. What other team would keep Saffold around as long as the Rams?
But RS was playing well before he went out.
The last couple of games, I agree. For most of the year he has been sub par. Go back and look at the PFF grades on the O-line, he is non existent.
sanbaggerParticipantHow many Recordites does it take to change a lightbulb?
I don’t know what’s the tally so far?How many Contextistas does it take to change a lightbulb?
Well describe the situationNow that was pretty funny..Kudos
sanbaggerParticipantThe Rams seem to be planning on putting Tru on JJ as his shadow for the day. I found an interesting trend that I think applies to this thread and my prediction.
ATL has 5 losses this year….in 4 of the 5 L’s JJ has topped the 100 yard threshold.
Conversely….JJ has been held to under 100 yds in 5 games this year…in 4 of the 5 ATL won the game.
JJ was shut down against NO, GB, AZ, and Denver with a high yardage output of 35 against AZ. The guy can be shut down and more importantly ATL can and usually do find a way win without him.
So…My prediction is Tru shadows him all game with help over the top on the deep stuff to keep JJ short. He gets 7 receptions for 66 yds and 0 TD’s…that’s the good news.
The bad news is ATL throws short all game, remain patient and Freeman rushes for 150 and ATL get’s the W.
ATL – 31
LAR – 17December 8, 2016 at 9:51 am in reply to: Rams Junior High: Inside a Dysfunctional Front Office #60549sanbaggerParticipantI will say the article has more of a tone of legitimacy than some of its predecessors this week, but I remain skeptical of this
Yea…I tend to agree with that.
It seemed to me Fisher was also throwing himself and the scouts on the sword along with Snead.
When Fisher took over in STL one of things I noticed was he cut back the freedom the local reporters had around the team. That offended the writers in the area IMO. I would suspect he has limited the reporters in Cali just like he did in STL so now we see things like “sources” when for the last 5 years I haven’t read too many sources out of Fishers camp.
I do think Fisher is feeling a little heat though.
December 7, 2016 at 9:43 am in reply to: Jeff Fisher was 'unaware' Rams GM Les Snead also got an extension #60508sanbaggerParticipant“I look at this as being my responsibility, the win-loss record. We need to do a better job from a personnel standpoint.
Some are reading that as Fisher dissing Snead. I don’t read it that way. I see Fisher saying “we.” WE have to do better. Since he is pretty deeply involved in personnel, then, that can’t be said without it touching on him. That’s what I think he intends.
I agree with that, I don’t read that as dissing Snead either.
I completely believe he knew full well Snead was extended just like he heard the fans in Cali calling for Goff.
sanbaggerParticipantI don’t think it is about Fisher anymore. I think it is about Goff
I have been squarely in this corner up until just recently…now I’m wavering a little. The fact that the Rams didn’t release the Fisher extension and then it mysteriously is leaked and then Demoff gives him far less than an endorsement is talking to me.
I don’t think I’m swayed yet that he’s getting a severance, but it has my attention.
As you say Ag, I think it’s more about Goff than it is about the head coach. I like Weinke and Groh and believe those guys are a good nucleus to help Goff. Just going from Pre-season to now, he is miles from where he started. Boras is a different animal in my opinion…I want him replaced.
What I want….IF Fisher is retained he absolutely needs a new established OC like Turner, but it doesn’t have to be him. I do not want another year of Fisher and Boras.
If Fisher is fired I’ll hold out and see what coaches are making it known they are available and discuss my wishes then.
December 6, 2016 at 9:54 pm in reply to: informal poll: what's wrong with the offense, can it pick up? #60474sanbaggerParticipantHe;s not the only mediocre DE GR has ever faced.
More likely, GR just had a good game
Then maybe he is improving…just too small of a sample size to make that determination.
He’ll be tested as we get closer to the end of the season and I would love to see this trend continue…at this point I’m just not convinced.
December 6, 2016 at 8:29 pm in reply to: informal poll: what's wrong with the offense, can it pick up? #60467sanbaggerParticipantStarters not getting it done
GRobThough, interestingly…not last game. Last game he graded out as their best offensive player.
Yea, I thought about mentioning that but decided not to because it could be the DE he was matched up with isn’t that good. Sheard has 3 1/2 sacks all year and I feel GRob struggles with the speed guys.
I’m hoping he shows up again this week matched up against Jackson who has 0 sacks this season and 9 for his career…so hopefully he posts another 70+ rating.
December 6, 2016 at 6:59 pm in reply to: informal poll: what's wrong with the offense, can it pick up? #60456sanbaggerParticipantLots of ways to look at this but I decided on the easiest. Every week Zn posts PFF grades for the highest performers for both O and D….go back and take a look at who is consistently showing up and who is absent when talking O-line.
Starters not getting it done
GRob
Barnes
Brown
Guys getting it done
Hav
Saffold – Barely – showed up the last couple of weeks prior to injury
WichmanIn a nutshell I think that is our biggest issue…the Joes just aren’t getting it done. The line is vulnerable up the middle and like in baseball you have to sound up the middle…where do the Rams run the ball? Between the tackles and they just can’t get any push.
Hav isn’t performing as well as he did last year…did he regress? I don’t think so…I think he may still be hurting a little from the injury that sidelined him all OTA’s and pre-season. He’s gonna be just fine.
I think they can be better next year but I think the 2 biggest areas that need to be addressed are Center and LT. Grob has a few games left to fight for his LT job IMO.
December 6, 2016 at 4:47 pm in reply to: informal poll: should the Patz even bother to show up? #60445sanbaggerParticipantYeah I was pretty happy with the way the defense played against the Pats sans that 43 yd TD run on 4th and 1.
Yah…that was brutal, but if I had a complaint I would say it appeared the run was open to the outside the entire game. I would love to know if that was a scripted play…run up the middle to get everybody to crash then kick it back outside…it sure seemed like it was a planned play.
The Rams need to tighten up the run D and get Mo to figure out he’s not ice skating that he is supposed to at least try and tackle one on one then that D can be pretty strong.
I will say, I wanted to see more blitzing, but then I think I say that every week…so, maybe I don’t have a clue.
December 6, 2016 at 4:23 pm in reply to: informal poll: should the Patz even bother to show up? #60442sanbaggerParticipantThe defense has looked terrible against two of the best offenses. Now they face a third good offense. It aint gonna be pretty.
w
vI actually thought the D did an admirable job. I know the Pats were a little shorthanded but that’s life.
If the Rams O could have mounted any kind of attack this score would have been a lot closer…even though I realize they called off the dogs in the 4th, I still believe this to be true.
December 6, 2016 at 2:51 pm in reply to: informal poll: should the Patz even bother to show up? #60433sanbaggerParticipantI think Goff has a decent game against a suspect Pats D but it won’t be enough.
Pats – 27
Rams – 19Okay, well, if you hate the Rams so much, why don’t you just move to Seattle?
Or North Korea.
Just got back from North Korea via Seattle, looking at dwellings when I noticed I wasn’t too far off.
Actual score
Pats – 26
Rams – 10sanbaggerParticipantNOW it seems to me what they’re dealing with is obvious. Rookie qb. For example, teams are now loading up and blitzing like crazy and it takes out both the run game and puts pressure on the new qb.
They have been doing that for a couple years now. We saw it all last year and we have seen it every game this year. It’s the book on the Rams….get everybody within 10 yds of the LOS because they are gonna do a 3 step drop and try and hit quick hitters…and I don’t have a problem with that at all…but the opposing defenses know they don’t have to stack the box to beat the line.
Last year Gurley had 5 games where he exceeded 100 yds and in his last 8 games he only broke that barrier 1 time. So I’m not so sure they protected/blocked like gang busters last year.
