    I love Sanders.

I just hope I have the chance to vote for him, that he’ll still be in the race by the time Pennsylvania’s primary rolls around. It would probably be the first presidential election where I’ve actually voted FOR someone rather than AGAINST someone else.

The press is already treating him like a fringe candidate.

If what he’s talking about is “fringe” than I have no use for politics at all anymore.

i do also wonder how much of a product of the sytem he was. nick chubb actually outperformed him as a freshman last year. then again. nick chubb might actually be that good.

From the things I’ve read, Nick Chubb is just very very good. Georgia just may have struck gold in having one great back follow another.

One thing that jumps out in the Gurley highlights: BALANCE. The kid has great balance.

    Happy Birthday, Tri-State!

No one would have EVER guessed that.

If, on the other hand you would have gone with NYNJCTRF, we would have nailed it.

    That’s a little clunky though. 🙂

    I haven’t seen it.

Everyone says it’s great. My son loved it–insisted I have to go see it. Here’s the thing for me though–I was never a Mad Max fan. The first one I saw was “The Road Warrior” and I can’t remember much about it. “Beyond Thunderdome” was awful to me. I saw the original a few years after “Thunderdome” and still wasn’t crazy about it. I’m not big on the Mad Max “world”, I guess; that post-apocalyptic vision. For whatever reason, I never took to it.

On the other hand I do love action films. But I’ve had a hard time getting up my interest to actually go to the theater to see this one. I may watch it when it comes to rental television–I probably will. But my history with the series just doesn’t motivate me to seeing what could very well be a great film.

Frankly, this summer’s films have left me cold.

I saw “Ultron” and that was fine. But another Jurassic Park? Seen it, done that. Another Disney theme park ride movie? No thanks.

My son is taking me to “Ant-Man” when it comes out but I’m not super psyched about it. I’ll probably see the “Vacation” remake simply because I LOVE the last scene in the trailer which pokes fun at the Christie Brinkley red car scene. Looks very dark.

I do want to see “Mr. Holmes” but that doesn’t feel like a summer film.

I’m looking forward to “Star Wars” later and Tarantino’s “Hateful Eight.”

But I don’t expect to see much this summer.

We will never make it to a Type 1 civilization. I see a backward march. I see crazy religious cults forming into their tribes and arming themselves to protect their fantasies. Wisdom, intelligence, rationality have little value. Ignorance and faith are celebrated. There is no time to think these things through or to make the necessary commitment or sacrifice. We are happy being a type 0 dead plant civilization.

I really have moved closer to the George Carlin school of thought: sit back and just enjoy the show. I look at the greed and stupidity and realize that it is insurmountable. That’s horrible. But my faith in humans is at an all-time low. I hope I’m wrong. I do. But so far, I don’t see anything that gives me hope.

    Not Utopian at all.

The powerful will always exploit the non-powerful for their own gains.

The film was incredibly sad to me. I’ve never been in those men’s shoes. I’ve never had that few limited options or that sort of hopelessness. While I’ve thought at times that I may have underachieved a bit(just a bit) it doesn’t matter because, I’m doing what I want to do–living a simple life, a secure life(at least as secure as anyone can hope to have)and I’ve provided for my family. They’ve never wanted for anything, never gone hungry, my kids have had the opportunity for higher education. I have no regrets. I’ve been very fortunate.

I have not been in the sort of desperate situation those men are, from where I am now(middle class), to where I’ve come from(and I would consider that lower middle class to borderline poor). I’ve not had bad choices or less bad choices as my options.

These men are affected not just by circumstance, but also by the environment that has emerged from that, a violent Darwinian culture.

I am grateful not to have lived their lives.

This is all going to be very interesting when it gets to the finish line.

It’s musical chairs and someone is not getting a chair.

The team that “feels” like the odd team out is Oakland. Maybe that’s just because they’ve been the quietest team during all this. There is no doubt that the Chargers and Rams are full speed ahead toward L.A. but because their moves involve two different stadiums, something has to give somewhere. At some point the NFL will have to get Spanos and Kroenke and Davis in a room and lock the door and not come out until it’s all sorted out and even then–if things go badly you have to wonder if teams will say “screw it” and do what they want to do anyway.

I still feel, at the end of the day, that somehow it’s going to be the Rams and Chargers but nothing is carved in stone yet.

    We’ll see.

    And this:

Fowler has not yet signed his rookie contract. His deal is expected to be worth about $23 million, fully guaranteed, over four years (with a fifth-year team option).

Unsigned draft choices participating in minicamp sign an injury protection waiver. If there is an injury, the team will continue to negotiate in good faith as if the player were not injured.

A source confirmed to ESPN that Fowler had signed a waiver.

If I was a rookie I wouldn’t step on the field until I had my contract signed.

Offensive tackle La’el Collins will be making his first free-agent visit to the Cowboys , according to a league source.

The undrafted free agent is being courted by a large majority of NFL teams. He brings potential first-round production at a bargain price after teams at the draft passed over him because of concerns about his potential connection to the murder of a former female associate who was pregnant when she died.

When I think of numbers and Ram’s backs I usually associate it like this:

    30: McCutcheon

    26: Tyler

    29: Dickerson

    28: Faulk

    39: Jackson

    36: Bettis

Of course other backs have used 30. Barry Redden–or Dickerson’s Tre Mason as I like to call him–comes to mind.

Who was the other guy? Zack? Zac? Zac….Stacy? Yeah that’s it. I guess he’s not using it now.

Anyway, I’m sure that Gurley will do the number proud.

Indeed. Just read about it on ROD.

I posted with him a lot in the “song of the day” and we had very similar music tastes. I did not know he was ill or that he had been battling cancer for so long.

Behind these names and internet personas we are all human beings with families, friends, hopes and fears. That can be easy to forget.

    R.I.P.

But then, all this is theory. Apart from Gurley’s knee–which doesn’t bother me that much–the big question is the obvious one. Did they choose the right guys for the OL?

IF THEY DID … then this is in all respects a brilliant draft. It’s tactically brilliant, as some of the pundits have explained. Recognizing that the needed talent will be there, taking the brilliant RB, then trading back, etc. etc. These tactical moves probably made it possible to grab Mannion, a move I view favorably. He sounds like the right sort of guy to develop for a year or two. And, if we have picked 3-4 OL who A) fit our vision and B) can play, then Mac is right about this being a great draft.

And that’s the key for me.

IF they drafted the right linemen it’s an A+ hit matching Fisher’s philosophy. He’s going “all in” on that and why not?

I feel much better with the Gurley pick after watching how the rest of the draft played out.

As far as the Qbs went–they obviously looked for specific things. They loved Mannion in the red zone apparently, and the fact that he worked in a pro style offense. He may not be the most athletic QB(neither is Foles and for that matter neither is Manning)but he gives them what they want and they see things they can correct(slow release) and develop.

Their offense is run oriented and THAT’S where you need the big horse(Gurley) and the roadgraders up front to move people.

Time will tell, as always but I really am happy with the draft and excited.

IF this works–a dominant run game with an elite defense, the Rams will “old school” their way to a Super Bowl.

This is definitely a throwback to the old Rams teams.

They’ve done it with the GSOT.

This is more of a ground and pound.

It should be fun. Can’t wait.

Player Comparison: Marshawn Lynch. In terms of Gurley’s running style, the closest comparison is Lynch. Both have power and speed, and are difference-makers who can carry an offense. I think Gurley is faster while Lynch may have a bit more power to him. Lynch was the 12th-overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, and Gurley could go in the same general area this year.

COMPARES TO: Marshawn Lynch, Seahawks — Like Lynch, Gurley is best known for simply bowling over defenders, but each back’s success is also a testament to good vision, surprisingly light feet and balance to bounce off would-be tacklers.

I’ve only seen highlights but he runs a bit upright like Dickerson, but seems a bit more shifty. Dickerson was more straight ahead, find the opening—gone. Gurley is moving forward but he seems a bit more athletic in a way.

But ED is not a bad comparison.

BOTTOM LINE Will be hard to get excited about a receiver who lacks deep speed and has a hard time getting a clean release against press coverage, but his body control, ball skills and poise give him a shot to make it in the league. Sasser’s best shot might come with a team looking for size in the slot or as a zone beating possession receiver.

I hate what the draft has become.

Used to be a nice weekend thing, half one day, half the next. The whole circus around it follows what they’ve done to the Superbowl where the “event” becomes more important than the game itself.

The NFL does this to everything. They have the big schedule unveiling now–the silliness of a Pro Bowl Draft and on and on.

    It sucks.
