PA RamParticipantNice video, wv.
Thanks for posting.
The Rams of my youth. I used to collect Rams pictures from NFL Preview magazines and tape them on my wall. I can remember the Jim Bertelsen one I had really well. I believe the first Rams jersey I had with anyone’s number was #30. McCutcheon–although I don’t recall them putting names on the jerseys in those days.
Every christmas I’d get the Sears catalog and pick out Rams stuff. It was the NFL.com shop of its day.

PA RamParticipantLooks like Oscar bait.

PA RamParticipantI still don’t get why they cut Palardy. When GZ misses wide right who are they going to bring in to miss wide left on the next one?
Ta-dum-dum.
Thanks, you’ve been a great crowd. I’ll be here all week.

LT Ereck Flowers
It’s hard to complain about what you’ve seen from Flowers this preseason. He’s a rookie left tackle holding his own, and he did so again on Saturday night against a good Jets defensive line. Mostly, Flowers was matched against Jets outside linebacker Trevor Reilly. He won that matchup, especially up until the final drive. There were two plays in particular on the Giants’ long touchdown drive in the second quarter where Flowers stood out with his run blocking. He also showed some feistiness near the goal line on a play where his helmet came off. The one negative came on a when Flowers found himself against Muhammad Wilkerson and was pushed into the backfield. Wilkerson and Reilly split the sack after running a twist that the Giants left side didn’t handle well. Still another promising performance from the rookie left tackle.http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2015/08/giants_studs_and_duds_vs_jets_include_ereck_flower.html

PA RamParticipantMy theory: They drafted Battle because they are very concerned about Robinson. The coaches look a bit lost trying to figure out this line and doing it at the last minute and part of that is Robinson. He’s a second year guy–yes. And moving him around last year didn’t help but I don’t get that either. Ereck Flowers starts at LT for the Giants and he looked good. Didn’t seem to need all this help.
Robinson is struggling.
It’s a problem.

PA RamParticipantI don’t know how this will play out in the future but I can see it going one of two ways:
1.) Humans become extinct.
2.) A completely redesigned economy. Endless escalating profit will no longer be possible unless there is a sort of consumer robot. Things will have to go through massive change and it will be very painful and long. But it’s inevitable.

August 31, 2015 at 10:07 am in reply to: Eagles QB Sam Bradford … how is he doing (from training camp thru pre-season) #29609PA RamParticipantI watched the Eagles game and Bradford was very impressive. He even stood in and took another hit–and got up.
I really don’t believe it is an exaggeration to suggest that IF he stays healthy he will put up MVP type numbers this year.

August 30, 2015 at 3:48 pm in reply to: an annual treat: "my report from the sideline" & some follow-up #29582PA RamParticipantWell, a blind man could see the issues with the oline coming months ago when they failed to sign one of the better vet FA’s. The oline will likely keep this team out of the playoffs.
I remain blissfully optimistic for this year. But it’s going to be tough to make the playoffs. Right now–at this moment–it doesn’t look like a playoff team. It looks like a 5 win team. But we’ll see how Week 1 looks. I’m sure they will give the line help from backs and tight ends whenever they can and maybe when Gurley checks in they find the solid running game they need.
The defense should solve its problems and be good enough if not elite.
But they HAVE to get the running game going. That threat alone should help on pass plays. I expect they will play it “safe” for awhile with what they do.

August 30, 2015 at 2:26 pm in reply to: an annual treat: "my report from the sideline" & some follow-up #29574PA RamParticipantG-Rob seemed like he wasn’t locked in for some odd reason. He seemed as if he was in a daze or something and when he was getting beat like a turnstile,
Yes.
This is what I see when I look at Robinson. I’ve said this before. It seems like he’s daydreaming or not focused. It’s weird.
In the Raiders game every offensive lineman was up and backing into their stance and he was still down on that sack. Slow, uncertain–I don’t know. Physical? Mental? I don’t know. But it LOOKS like he’s in that daze sometimes.

my accreditation…i thought the game was Sunday night.Luckily i have NFL gameday-replay.

vI have Gamepass and am thinking of keeping it.
I just haven’t had luck with streaming sites this year and don’t feel like fighting them. Yes–I won’t see the games until the next day but I’ll still see them.
I have a few days to decide.

PA RamParticipantThe screen passes were actually pretty effective and the blocking on them was surprisingly good. They must really emphasize that.
I was watching the Eagles and noticed they did a lot of screen passes on first down which left them in a 2nd and 3 or 4 a lot of times. They would run on 2nd down and usually pick up a first down. I don’t recall the Rams throwing much to the middle of the field but maybe I don’t remember it. In any case–the screen passes were a positive thing and with the blocking suspect they will have to rely on the quicker stuff for awhile so that Foles doesn’t have to hold the ball very long.
By the way–the best run blocking I saw was on watts touchdown run in the 2nd half. That was a thing of beauty. Perfect lane. Reynolds was in on that.
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantAt this point in the preseason, the most logical reason for the move would be that the team intends to move Saffold back to right guard when he returns. Saffold played there in 2013, and going back to that spot would also allow the Rams to breakup the two rookies on the right side.
This makes sense to me.
But why didn’t they do that at the beginning?
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantThis offensive line seems soooooooooooo thin.
I hope they can stay healthy.

August 29, 2015 at 7:10 am in reply to: Fisher Believes Todd Gurley Can Be Better Than Eddie George, CJ2K #29501PA RamParticipantBut no pressure, Todd.
I can see the Dickerson comparisons. But I’ll wait till he plays a few games before I put him in that lofty category.
The Rams can afford to take it slow with him and I hope they do. I don’t care if he doesn’t play until October. Take your time.
They should be able to manufacture a running game with Mason, Cunningham and Pead(or if later Watts) until he’s ready. I am in no hurry for him to get on the field. It is a long term investment and I’m glad they aren’t rushing him.
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantFor whatever reason, Chip Kelly just didn’t like Foles. Even when he had his great season his enthusiasm for Foles was lukewarm at best. I can recall Philly fans even questioning why Kelly did not embrace Foles more during that season.
This is just an observation and meaningless in the big scheme of things but obviously there was something Kelly saw that he didn’t like.
Having said that, I see no reason why Foles can’t be successful here but he needs all the pieces around him to do that. I don’t think he particularly trusts the line that’s in front of him right now and that’s going to take time. He obviously needs more time with the receivers. And the BIG key is he will absolutely need that running game to work. If that’s getting stuffed I don’t think he’ll look very good. He is not Peyton Manning. But he can be a winner.
On another note, I’ve been more impressed with Case Keenum than I thought I’d be. I think it was a smart move giving up a 7th rounder to get him. I think he can be a solid back-up.
And Mannion looks very promising.

PA RamParticipantI can understand the offense struggling a little bit. I can’t get the defense looking hopeless and lost. They said they didn’t have gap discipline, things like that. Clearly their tackling was sloppy. Do they work on that in camp? The defense has been together–should know their assignments, and should certainly do more than lunge at runners hoping they’ll drop.
I don’t even know for sure how much the Titans and Raiders actually gameplanned specifically for the Rams. I do know that they are not good teams and they looked great against this team.
I do believe the travelling affected some things. I get that.
But this team needs to look a LOT different this week.
We’ll see.

I think that Nittany would be perfect for this role.

PA RamParticipant“If you go back a year from now, or two years from now, or three years from now, you guys all asked me the same questions: ‘What’s up with your offense?’” Fisher said. “We keep it basic. Our philosophy is to just play and work on fundamentals during the preseason.”
Why on earth would anyone ever ask that?
This 8-8, 7-9 offense will be just fine. Trust him.
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantAs far as I’m concerned they can release Austin Davis now. Keenum has earned the #2 spot. He impressed me.
Mannion looks promising for the future.
Watts was a highlight reel. He has to make the team–despite the suspension.
Bailey is just a solid receiver.
Givens can go deep.
Joyner had a nice game. He needed it.
FWIW Rams gave up no sacks in the 1st half although the QBs did get pressure.
Brown is a nice runner–not sure if there’s room for him but I like him.
The big positive: No injuries.
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantThe excuse I keep hearing is that the team was tired. I actually believe that’s possible. They traveled to Oakland and then they go to Oxnard–work out with the Cowboys–have to prepare for Tennessee somehow and travel to Tennessee for a game they weren’t prepared to play.
But why put the team through the whole Oxnard experience to begin with? Did it REALLY help to work out with the Cowboys? Doesn’t show. And forget “gameplanning”. This is about fundamentals. Washington looked lost out there. The line could not open holes for the backs(until the 2nd or 3rd stringers played against the 2nd or 3rd stringers) and the defense could not get close to Mariotta OR shut down the running game even a little bit.
Pre-season or not–there is no excuse for that type of performance and if it WAS being tired, I blame Fisher for the whole Cowboys/Oxnard fiasco. This should not be about displaying your team for L.A. fans–it should be about getting ready for the season and clearly they don’t look ready if they can’t even play on the same field as the 2-14 Titans with a rookie QB.
It was a pathetic performance.
GZ missed a FG right and Palardy misses one left. Hekker punted horribly.
SOMETHING was wrong with this team.
And I’m sorry–but that points to Fisher.
I remember reading how the Cowboys were surprised how the Rams practiced. How slow it was–no flow–how the Cowboy coaches practiced DURING drills while the Rams seemed to stop and THEN coach. That struck me as a bit weird. Maybe it isn’t but it does seem like a less efficient way of coaching.
And yes–I’d like to see the players and coaches embarrassed by that performance–pre-season or not.
Look–ultimately, maybe it’s meaningless. Maybe they start the season with four straight wins and all of the concern goes away and we look back on this and laugh at how bad they looked.
But unless that happens or until I see some professional solid play–I will remain concerned.
Fisher no longer has my confidence just because he’s Jeff Fisher. He has to earn it like every other coach. He hasn’t done that yet.

August 23, 2015 at 8:39 am in reply to: Eagles QB Sam Bradford … how is he doing (from training camp thru pre-season) #29155PA RamParticipantI thought it was a cheap shot.
Mentally, it may prove good for Sam–knowing that he got up and was okay.
But it was dirty.
I thought Sam wasn’t quite comfortable in that offense yet. He also may have been nervous. We’ll find out this year whether Bradford can really be the QB we hoped he would be because if you can’t do it in that Eagles offense….you ain’t got it.
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantI think that teams use the strength of this defense(quick defensive line–aggressive D) against us. They hit short quick passes or run through a blitz and set up their longer strikes. There isn’t a lot of TIME to hit the QB. And this defense is mostly about getting to that QB. When it happens–brilliant. Chaos strikes–good things happen. But teams know this and they’ll “sucker” this defense in sometimes…while knowing where the opening is for that quick pass. The Rams run out of position to defend, in a sense.
I don’t know if this is a flaw in the scheme or if there is a lack of discipline with players but whatever it is–teams seem to do a lot of the same things against us. There IS a formula, they seem to use. That’s what I THINK I see. I’d love to have access to stats that show how teams attack other teams compared to how they attack the Rams.
I think it was Nick Wagner(not sure)who wrote something about this team never becoming a top 5 defense statistically but still being one of the top defenses. This team is about causing chaos–creating a sack, a turnover, a fumble and along the way they’ll give up yards.
That could be correct.
But they absolutely will need help from the offense. If the offense continues to struggle and the defense is constantly on the field they just won’t hold up over the course of 16 games.
Are they an elite defense?
I believe that the pieces are in place for that. But that doesn’t mean anything if you can’t put it together.
Paper champions don’t win anything.

And Bradford is better than either of them. If he stays healthy he will have a career year. Murray isn’t playing either.
