PA RamParticipant
I see a lot of the same names on their list that are on the Rams list.
Except Tom Coughlin is floating around now.
Anyway–I guess the ONE list will be in play for all teams.
Someone will hire a surprise guy though.
Maybe Linehan will be the surprise guy. Hopefully the Bills surprise us and not the Rams.

PA RamParticipantThe fun for me for the playoffs will be rooting for anyone–ANYONE to beat those two teams.
I don’t even know if I’ll watch the Superbowl if it’s those two teams.

PA RamParticipantOne thing I am sure about: The kid MUST gain good weight, muscle up, and work all offseason doing this. He’s a bean pole, and that makes him less effective as a passer, a runner and especially in absorbing hits. If the Rams don’t get him a personal trainer, they’re flat out stupid . . . and he should hire one on his own as well. Put a gym in his house and use it, daily. He can afford it.
I agree with that. Goff needs to get a little bigger. He won’t last.
I am not going to freak out about Goff just yet. We’ll see how he looks next year.
GURLEY does concern me. I hope we see the First Year Todd Gurley next year. Because if THIS one shows up again? Well–it won’t be good for Goff.

December 26, 2016 at 10:04 am in reply to: 350 lb. Dontari Poe in as fullback, fakes run, throws TD pass #61816PA RamParticipantIt was 27 to 10 and they pull that crap? Why?
Because you step on their throats when they’re down. It’s kind of like the Rams leading the 9ers by 14 and how the Rams pull out all the stops to crush the 9ers because…huh? Wha? Must have been a glitch in the Matrix. Of course the Rams don’t crush them–they wait for the other team to catch up. That’s the Rams way.
I LOVE YOU ANDY REID!!!!!!!!
There–I said it.
He’s the coach of my dreams.
Don’t judge me.

PA RamParticipantNice, Mac.
I’m glad you have support at home for being a Rams fan.
My wife just wrinkles her nose when I mention them and mutters, “Ugh.” It’s not sympathy, really. It’s more like disgust.
Damn it I WANT sympathy!
She’s a cold woman, Mac. An ice queen.

PA RamParticipantI was sort of hoping the new coach would keep Greg Williams because the personnel fits his scheme. But I’m tired of the way the defense collapses at key times. That’s at least partly due to poor coaching, so I no longer want Williams back. Not that it’s likely he will be back anyway…
Yeah–I want him gone. The whole culture needs to change. These guys seem like immature brats. I want smart players, smart coaching and guys who want it more than anything else.
And if they hire Scott Linehan I’ll sit it out for the next few years until he’s inevitably fired. It scares me that his name is in the conversation.

PA RamParticipant2 wins for the 9ers–against the Rams. That says it all.
Clearly they need new coaching.
But they also need to turn over a lot of this roster. How much? That’s the question.
Offensive line for sure.
Receivers? For sure they need something more there.
QB? That’s just a big question mark right now. But Goff is staying.
Defense?
Secondary needs work for sure.
I think something has to happen with the linebackers–but I’m not sure what.
The line is a bit thin. But it is still a strength of the team. I’d say it has the least questions.
This will not be turned around in one season.

December 24, 2016 at 12:27 pm in reply to: D'Marco Farr said, they are benching 2 players. Robinson and Wichmann #61667PA RamParticipantIt sort of feels like they’re done with Robinson. Maybe the next coach will have a different take. But at least for now–they’re done with him.
Gurley REALLY bothers me. I hope the heck they can save him and bring him back. I just don’t get what’s going on with him at all. It isn’t ALL the o-line. I just don’t know.
Gurley has a 3.2 yard average.
Cunningham has a 4.8
Austin has a 5.7
That may or may not be fair but it just seems like Gurley is missing holes–if he’s looking at all because sometimes he seems to just put his helmet on the back of a lineman and surges forward, or he just doesn’t have the speed or quickness to break through. I am really concerned about him.

PA RamParticipantWell, Issac newton was a bit weird. Hey–I admire a guy who sticks a needle in his eye to find some scientific answer but it doesn’t play well at parties.
I have some Facebook friends who have 700 people on their “friends” list. This is not possible. You can’t know 700 people.
Since I’ve become older I have pretty much moved to just my immediate family. My wife and son and daughter and my son and daughter’s mates. When I get social time I try to get together with them. Sometimes there’s another relative or two we see but not too often. I don’t get together with anyone from work much anymore. Yesterday, after work I picked up a 6 pack and a guy from work was there and wanted to buy me a drink and I politely declined. I just don’t feel like it anymore. I’d rather get home–relax, enjoy my shows or books and drink at home if I want something like that.
It’s not that I can’t be sociable. I can. I just don’t feel like it.
So while I have friends. I don’t really. I don’t take time anymore to see them.
I just don’t care. I want to be comfortable with my own interests.
Real friendship(not Facebook friendship) takes time and work. I would say that I don’t have a lot of social types of interests. I’m not in a bowling league, for example. I have more solitary interests. I love to read. I have an on again off again relationship with physical fitness. I love studying card magic but I’m less interested in performing than in learning methods and working on technique.
I USED to be very sociable. I used to hang out with a lot of people. For whatever reason–I just don’t feel like it anymore. I don’t miss it.

PA RamParticipantI go to NYC a few times a year.
I love it. I’ve been in a lot of the museums. The Natural History one has a great planetarium. I think that’s my favorite one. My wife loves the Met. A fun one with some very ODD art is the MOMA.
Lots to do there.
I love just people watching in Central Park on a nice day.
Also–if you get a chance to take the Roosevelt Island Tram it’s a lot of fun and presents an opportunity for cool pictures from the island.
We were just there and went through the shops at Bryant Park and their winter festival.
If you want a great view pay the 20 bucks and take the elevator to the Top of the Roc and Rockefeller center. Fantastic views.

December 20, 2016 at 10:16 am in reply to: Wash Post: speculation about Sean Payton coaching Rams #61359PA RamParticipantHey–what does it say? I have 0 free articles this month, apparently. I must read a lot of the Washington Post’s links. Anyway–is he signing on? What’s the deal? How much will the Rams have to give the Saints to get him?
He’d probably be my first choice.
But he probably would not keep Greg Williams. Just a hunch.

PA RamParticipantHere’s the weird thing about “Blade Runner” to me: I own the DVD and yet–I’ve never watched the whole movie. I’ve wanted to–several times. Either I’ve fallen asleep or I had other things to do and stopped it or whatever. One day I WILL watch this whole film.
As for a sequel? I don’t know. Is it a film that demanded a sequel?

That’s fair.

December 19, 2016 at 8:35 am in reply to: Bonsignore tweets: Chargers may rebrand if they move to LA #61314PA RamParticipantLet’s see:
The Los Angeles Stars?
The Los Angeles Freeways?
The Los Angeles Quakes?
The Los Angeles Smogs?
This kinda sucks. I think it was terrible that the Oilers erased their history by rebranding. As a fan–I hate it. I think it sucks if the Chargers do it was well. It essentially becomes an expansion team. I know we’ve all heard the rumors before when the Rams were moving about them becoming the Stallions or some such thing. No. That’s just wrong.
Move the team. Keep the brand.

December 19, 2016 at 8:28 am in reply to: Jeff Fisher ‘caught off guard’ by Rams firing | FOX NFL KICKOFF – Video #61313PA RamParticipantIn terms of physical ability, I don’t think the roster is lacking. We have some real athletes with good skills.
Many of them, unfortunately, are dumb as a rock and can’t focus.
Sometimes it may be better to sacrifice some athletic skill for NFL smarts. I hope that’s the direction they go in the future. Bring in smart focused players. They may not win every physical battle but they’ll make up for it with a sharp mental game and the team won’t constantly kill itself.
And bring in a smart leader.

December 17, 2016 at 1:18 pm in reply to: Bleacher Report on coaching changes, says the Rams are targeting McDaniel #61265PA RamParticipantThere’s a lot of speculation, it seems, about coaches not wanting to come here because of Goff. I don’t know if any of that is reality based but how on earth can anyone judge him as a bust this soon? I definitely see some talent there. I have no idea if Goff will make it or not but some of this stuff that seems to cast him off as a bust the Rams are married to just seems odd to me.
It is way too soon for that.
I certainly hope they’re wrong about him because if they aren’t…it’s just unthinkable.
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantLet’s start by giving him a real offensive line. And maybe some consistent receivers. Then, we’ll see.

PA RamParticipantI am more worried about Demoff and Snead doing something they have never done before, which is hire a coach.
That’s all a hit or miss thing anyway.
I’m sure they will hire a guy who SHOULD be capable of winning–he’ll have a good resume.
After that it’s hit or miss.

PA RamParticipant“I don’t think I was ever part of seeing the new stadium”
Yes–I’m quite sure that if he had posted winning records the Rams would have found some way to get rid of him before opening the new stadium. That’s just bitter talk. I’d be surprised if he got another HC job.
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantThat was a ridiculous call AFTER the review. And Collingsworth tried really hard to justify it by first claiming it was bobbled(it wasn’t) and then something about Graham touching the ball while he stepped out of bounds. So if Graham is fighting for the ball and gets control but Hager steps on the out of bounds line and has a hand on the ball it’s no good?
I don’t know about that one.
But that was an interception to me. If some weird rule I’ve never heard of is the reason I wish they’d be specific and explain it.

December 16, 2016 at 11:14 am in reply to: vid link: Snead part of coach search & Demoff not looking for a GM #61190PA RamParticipantAs for which specific players Snead identified or which ones Fisher wanted, we’ll never know.
It was never like that. The scouts and GM scouted, when they could the coaches joined in, then they spent days ranking the players.
The key is the ranking. Once a guy is ranked, it does not matter who wanted him or who identified him. Big long conversations go into ranking players. At the end of the ranking process they have their board. The board is not the expression of one guy’s thing.
I disagree with that. I know they rank players. But that isn’t science, exactly. It’s preference. And often players may have somewhat equal rankings so is it a coin flip? I doubt it. I would think that “fit” plays a part of that. Certainly need. But are you saying that if Fisher really wanted a guy–like Goff over Wentz–it had no effect? That may be the company line but I’m not buying it. And honestly–a good GM should listen to his coach on a lot of this.
I just don’t think it’s simply a clinical sort of ranking and that’s that. There isn’t always that huge of a gap in ranked players. Preference has to come in to play.
And on draft day they may well work from their board–but I think the GM AND coach must have a say in how that board is set.
Now I do not mean that Fisher is scouting every player. Maybe that’s what it looked like but I didn’t really mean that. But I’m sure there were disagreements.

December 16, 2016 at 10:17 am in reply to: vid link: Snead part of coach search & Demoff not looking for a GM #61183PA RamParticipantVery tough to judge something like this. The GM is working with the coach–trying to fill the roster to suit his needs and philosophy. Snead seemed to do that pretty well for Fisher. As for which specific players Snead identified or which ones Fisher wanted, we’ll never know.
But the GM has to be able to work with the coach on a single vision for the team. I think Snead did that pretty well with Fisher. That sort of thing will have to work with the new coach as well.

Seriously? Why own it?

Jenkins is just trying to take some shots. Personally I’m glad Kroenke stays away.
Go back to the drawing board, Mike. Find a real story.

PA RamParticipantAbout what I expected. Thought the OL sucked bad dropped passes stupid penalties and that ref sucked as well. Horrible tackling . This team is comfortable losing and it’s getting worse.
Yes–I don’t get how the heck they coach tackling but it must be to just dive at the opponent’s knees. Terrible.
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantUgh.
What can I say?
Okay–first of all…Goff. He had some UGLY throws tonight. Not a great game. He also needs to gain some weight. Thank God Cam Chancellor didn’t pound him or they’d still be looking for his head). His awareness was a little suspect in spots tonight but the line did him no favors. And that brings me to…
The Offensive(and I do mean “Offensive”) line. Just awful. Barnes sucked. Havenstein sucked. Robinson sucked. Maybe they should all be matadors. I seriously wonder if it is worth keeping any of them. I know they need to upgrade but there isn’t enough money in FA or not enough draft picks to fix this right away. Other than maybe Saffold, I’m not sure who is really worth keeping. And he gets hurt a lot.
Gurley. He doesn’t look particularly fast this year. He doesn’t look strong. He doesn’t look good. He runs up the blockers back because it doesn’t seem he has the quickness to make a cut to daylight. On one play tonight when he had a clear hole and went to make the cut he was so slow doing it that the defender quickly met him. I have real questions about him.
The receivers? The no hands bunch. Terrible. Britt was half decent but that was it. Mike Thomas HAS to make that TD catch. Tavon? Tavon will never be more than a gadget player and an inconsistent one at that. He’s got this silly high step thing going this year that only slows him down. They need a better pure receiver. Yes–he has his uses. But they need better at the WR position.
It’s pretty much a complete rebuild on offense, to me. Maybe Goff will work. Maybe. They really NEED him to work out.
Maybe Gurley can come back better next year. Maybe.
I have no real hope that Robinson will ever be a stud LT. Or even a reliable one. The other guys are just guys. Nothing special.
On defense, I don’t blame them. It has to be tough playing when you have no offense and you’re down to your 4th CB. They need depth for sure in the secondary and even a starting safety.
The linebackers? Okay–I guess. It’s really Ogeltree and Barron. Barron was quiet tonight, I thought.
The point is that this team needs more than a band-aid here and there. This IS going to have to be a rebuild. I think it has to start with the receivers and o-line. If they want to have any chance of developing Goff and that investment they HAVE to give him better protection and more reliable hands to throw the ball to. Or he’s done. That needs to be fixed–fast.
Yes–there will be a new offensive scheme–new coaches and that will help–I hope. How could it be worse? But I do think it will also take some new players. Maybe a lot.
I’d like to see Goff finish strong–if he can play the last two games. That’s all I got this year.

December 15, 2016 at 7:46 am in reply to: how many of these movies have you seen? an arbitrary list #61114PA RamParticipantYes–I saw about 17 of them.
“Cool Hand Luke” is my favorite from that list. I actually own the DVD and I may have watched that film 10 times. It’s one of the most quotable films I’ve ever seen: “What we’ve got here is…failure to communicate”. “Nobody can eat 50 eggs”. And that car wash scene? Oooooohhhh….that car wash scene.
But many outstanding films on the list. Some of the gritty 1970s films are my favorite. Films like “The French Connection” and “Taxi Driver” were shot on the streets. They felt REAL.
There’s only one film on the list that I’ve seen and although it’s considered a classic I never liked it. “Chinatown” bores the hell out of me. I’ve tried it a couple of times. I’m just not a fan. The acting is great. I just find it a very boring film.
Anyway, back to “Cool Hand Luke”:

December 14, 2016 at 1:04 pm in reply to: informal poll: how good is this roster for a new HC? #61033PA RamParticipantOn a serious note: I think it is in decent shape. I do believe the offensive line needs serious work. Maybe better coaching will help with that, I don’t know. But it needs some sort of upgrade. They clearly still have no #1 wide receiver. That’s a problem and I expect a new head coach to make that a priority. Of course it’s easier said than done to get one of those guys.
I don’t know what happened to Gurley but I have hope he can still be a great back.
I’m optimistic about Goff. I think he can be very good with the right coaching.
On defense, I’m not sure about Quinn. That’s a very tough question for me. With his injuries I have to wonder if he hasn’t peaked and may be on the downside. Of course if he walks and he WASN’T on the downside–well–that’s bad. Glad I don’t have to make that call.
The rest of the D line is pretty good. Donald is great.
The linebackers? Depends on the scheme they want to run and so forth. I do like Ogeltree.
I think they HAVE to keep Johnson. You have to have at least one steady corner.
The roster certainly has talent. But it does need some tweaking here and there.
