nittany ramModeratorOver the next 4 weeks, we play 3 teams that lead their divisions in the NFC. Two of them are at home. I feel, in the next 4 weeks, we need to go at least 3-1 to be considered a legit Super Bowl contender.
I’d be happy with 2-2. Still in good shape if they split those games.
If we go 2-2, we would not be a Super Bowl threat from the NFC.
Jack, if the Rams split the next four games they could still finish 12-4 which would probably make them NFC West champs and get them a first round by in the playoffs. They would certainly have a decent chance to go to the Super Bowl.

nittany ramModeratorMcVay just won his 7th game.
But until he proves he can do that year in and year out, I feel any comparisons to Jeff Fisher are premature.
nittany ramModeratorVikes leading Washington 35-20…
Saints leading Bills 37-3…Rams have a tough row to hoe.

32. Los Angeles Rams
2017 Offensive Coordinator: Matt LaFleurOutside of running back Todd Gurley, the Los Angeles Rams are an absolute wasteland of an offense.
In 2016, quarterback Jared Goff showed nothing in his few appearances his rookie season, and his weapons for this season are nowhere near elite when you look at wide receivers Tavon Austin, Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods and tight ends Gerald Everett and Tyler Higbee.
As mentioned before, Gurley is the only bright spot, but how do you expect him to get anything going if the rest of the team around him is what is outlined above? Those opposing defenses could play 10 in the box if they wanted to.
The Rams offense is definitely the worst in football.
100 percent.
That guy should have his license to practice sports journalism revoked.
A man would have to be blind not to have foreseen the rebirth of the Rams offense this season.
The signs were all there to see last season. One only had to look.
I remember watching one of Goff’s pick sixes last year and thinking to myself, “Soon. Soon those TDs will be going the other way.”
Any fool could see it.

nittany ramModeratorThe next time the Rams lose, it will be to a team that is better than they are, not to a team that is AS good, or inferior.
So, you’re implying it’s possible for a team to be AS good or even BETTER than the Rams?!
Gawd, I wish Rams players visited this site. Your posts would make excellent bulletin board fodder for the upcoming Seahawks game.
Spoken like a true Seahawks fan.
True Rams Fans know the Rams don’t need bulletin board material for the Seahawks.
Of course the Rams don’t NEED bulletin board material.
But true Rams fans know the players LIKE to read it.
When absolute perfection renders all those practices unnecessary, reading the incoherent drivel of Seahawks fans can break up the monotony.

nittany ramModeratorThe contrast between GRob and Whitworth is like…
Balanced, relaxed, smoothness of a large elf
vs
Lunging, lurching, grabbing of a cave troll.w
vAh, you’ve been reading the scouting reports I see…

nittany ramModeratorWow. Don’t know why it makes me sad.
Wasted potential. You won’t find a more athletically gifted LT.
But to play effectively at the NFL level you need a command of the technique, and that’s where he failed.
nittany ramModeratorBesides Malcolm Brown, Robert Quinn missed practice with an illness, Derek Carrier left early with a hamstring injury. Barwin, Sullivan, Whitworth got their usual Wednesday rest days.

nittany ramModeratorWhen i look at that offensive roster, it just doesnt look like it has any weak-links anywhere. Its great to be able to go into the draft and just take whatever they want. Hasnt been that way in a long time.
I imagine they stock up on OLinemen? Jettison Tavon’s big contract and resign Watkins.
I guess Mannion may leave next year? So, i suppose they’ll need a new no.2 QB.
The media iz gonna be picking the Rams as a super-bowl choice next year. I might too.
w
v<span class=”d4pbbc-font-color” style=”color: blue”>Mannion is here one more year.
.
The Rams could tag Watkins, but that might be more than they want to spend or maybe they would rather tag Joiner? Then they would get a comp 3rd. pick back for the 2cd. round pick they gave up.
.
Tavon is a lot cheaper over the last years of his contract, $9 million/yr. and they don’t save a lot to cut him next year. So, there is a chance he stays.
2018 Roster Bonus: $5M (guaranteed, paid the 3rd league day of 2018) If he gets traded before the 3rd league day, the new team would owe the roster bonus. imo
.
The offensive line is somewhat of a question mark for the future. Lot of FAs in 2019. How much will age and injury affect them. This draft will have some good offensive linemen available early. The Rams have a year before it gets critical. imo But you can’t always fix the offensive line in a year. We might need help next year if something happens.</span>
A week or so ago Rich Hammond tweeted that he doesn’t expect to see Watkins, Trujo, or Quinn back next year. Personally I think it’s too early to make anything other than a guess at who will be back.
nittany ramModeratorMy own feeling is that the Rams are good, but not as good as you might think if you based it on the Giants game.
In the Giants game, they were coming off a bye and going against a crippled team whose defense was tanking emotionally.
They were not a challenge. Neither was Arizona.
My measure of the team is this–it;s the team that played Seattle. Subtract the turnovers and you do have a good team, one that can compete for the division. But also a young one that has the potential to hit speed bumps (like it did with the turnovers against Seattle).
Why do you hate the Rams?
Besides–it’s my job to be the pessimist around here.
Don’t let the gibberish of Seahawks fans bother ya, PA.
REAL Rams fans know that this team is the best in the league.
Probably the best of all time.
nittany ramModeratorI think I’d rather face a rusty Bridgewater than Keenum right now.
nittany ramModeratorCool. I didn’t realize before Baldinger pointed it out that Goff audibled to the screen to Woods on 3rd and 33.
Goff is growing as a QB by the week. Who knows where his ceiling is?
nittany ramModeratorWill Brinson@WillBrinson
Best 3rd down conversion % in NFL through Week 9:1. Rams (49.1)
2. Eagles (46.8)
3. Patriots (45.9)
4. Cowboys (45.5)
5. Panthers (43.4)Ryan Kartje@Ryan_Kartje
Last season, the Rams converted just 31.5 percent of third downs, worst in the NFL. They’ve improved by 17.6 percent. That’s insane.Umm no.
This year’s 3rd down conversion rate of 49.1% is a 55.9% improvement over last season’s rate of 31.5%
49.1 – 31.5 = 17.6
(17.6/31.5) x 100 = 55.9%

nittany ramModeratorThey are officially 4-0 on the road as the London game was considered a home game. However, they are 5-0 away from the Coliseum.
nittany ramModeratorThe Rams have ticked all the boxes. It doesn’t get much better than this.
.
Will they keep going? They need to stay healthy.Yeah. Injuries and/or self-inflicted gaffes are the only thing that can derail this team.
The only team that can beat the Rams is the Rams.
And maybe the Eagles.
nittany ramModeratorGots-ta take care of bizness in that Astro game.
w
vThe Watson-less Texans couldn’t even beat the Colts at home.
Team of Destiny 51, Houston 5.
nittany ramModeratorwhere they need to improve/change the most IMO
Redzone offense.
Speak of the devil.
Joe Curley @vcsjoecurley
Matt Lafleur mentions red zone as being a place of improvement worked on during the bye week.
Lafleur hints the Rams need to run the ball better in the red zone in order to have success in those situations.interesting. i would think it’d fall more on goff, but i trust what lafleur says.
My impression is they abandon the run too quickly in the red zone.
nittany ramModeratorHow would anyone know that given the limited sample size? Goff led them back from 11 points down against the Cowboys (they trailed 17-6 at one point).
November 1, 2017 at 1:14 pm in reply to: With two weeks to prepare, can Rams challenge the Giants? #76734
nittany ramModeratorESPN FPI says Giants have a 61.9% chance to win.
nittany ramModeratorJimmy G. to SF…. I am bit surprised.
Brady is a million years old (41) and Jimmy G. has been groomed to take over.
Either Jimmy G is damaged goods or a dick.
He is scheduled to become a FA at the end of the season and he wants to play so the Patriots weren’t going to be able to keep him anyway.
That said, he probably is a dick given that he was a Patriot and now he’s a 49er.
nittany ramModeratorThe Rams are better than all those teams except maybe the Eagles. The Seahawks in Seattle will be tough. No reason they can’t go at least 5-4 the rest of the way. That would get them to 10-6 which should be good enough to make the playoffs.
nittany ramModeratorI didn’t get to see any football yesterday because my brother-n-law and his girlfriend are visiting from Florida. So we spent the weekend doing Vermonty things…hiking in the mountains, going into antique shops, drinking cider, putting maple syrup on stuff and eating said stuff…
nittany ramModeratorAhh, the lamentations of the conquered.
Cards embarrass themselves nationally and, now, internationally. If the greedy NFL could figure a way to play football in space, the Cards would embarrass themselves universally.
That was a good one.
nittany ramModeratorI hear a football coach but I see Ryan Seacrest.
Seriously though, whenever I hear McBae talk about coaching/football it’s hard to believe he’s only 31.
October 27, 2017 at 7:03 am in reply to: Football Outsiders on Donald being ridiculously good #76582
nittany ramModeratorHow does Donald compares to the all-time greats at DT? Does he already deserve to be mentioned among the best ever of the game…Merlin Olsen, Bob Lilly, Alan Page, Joe Greene, etc?
It would be cool if PFF went back and looked at film of those players and graded them using the same metrics they use today.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Donald graded out better than them. He may be the best DT who ever played.
It’s exceedingly rare for a team to have the best player of all-time at a given position on their roster. Obviously it’s even more rare to have the two best players of all-time at their positions on their roster at the same time.
But the Rams probably do in Hekker and Donald.
nittany ramModeratorThat’s considered betrayal?
Sanders betrayed the democrats in much the same way that Harriet Tubman betrayed slave owners.
nittany ramModeratorThats exactly the way they should be handling him. Having said that he just doesnt have the ‘bend-around-the-corner-ability’ he used to have. He still has the ‘get off’ or ‘speed’ but he doesnt seem to have the speed PLUS power PLUS ‘twistyness’ to bull the OT and get around the corner. He looks like most of the time he just rockets upfield and zooms past the QB and ends up on the ground. The ‘turn’ around the corner just isnt happening anymore. And i assmue thats the effect of the back-injury-surgery.
I imagine, Quinn and Tavon will be gone next year. Though i dunno the cap situation with Quinn.
w
vYeah, that’s my impression too. The back injuries have made him stiff.
I don’t see how he remains a Ram at his current salary. Same with Tavon, of course. Maybe they would take a pay cut to stay.
nittany ramModeratorThe Rams will f’n kill em’.
