Maybe the Rams would be more interested in extending him if they didn’t have Hacksaw Speights in their back pocket.

    I’d draft Donald. No questgion.

Then package him with a dozen 1st round draft picks to trade for Chris Massey.

Well….i dunno. My own tentative not-thot-out-impression is, these ‘new coaches’ just adjusted to the new RULES. The new rules were the ‘why’. Not the coaches. w v

Still mad about the way McVay owned Pete Carroll, huh?

    This.

Obviously McVay’s success has to be due to the new NFL rules and not to his coaching genius…

Rules specifically crafted by the jealous members of the rules committee to hamstring the brilliant Pete Carroll.

It’s like wv isn’t even trying to hide it anymore.

Thanks for the concern, folks. I had some health stuff to deal with, and am still in recovery mode. Not going to post a lot here or elsewhere for a bit, but may throw in my two cents about the draft down thread. Hope all of you are well.

Get well, BT and please don’t be a stranger.

Each pick was highly regarded and for a position of need. No reaches. Hard to find fault with it.

Dane Brugler, over at The Athletic, ranked all the drafts by teams, and he placed the Rams at 24 (and the 9ers at 25), fwiw, but I don’t find anything the Rams did (or didn’t do) to quibble with. They drafted for need, and all their picks “check out.”

    Well, that’s just cuckoo.

This was a great draft, from both a need and value standpoint.

AD’s retirement was a blow, but IF the players they selected are as good as advertised, then the Rams did as much as possible to mitigate that loss.  Include the FA signings, and I think this is a better team overall, even without AD.

Wow. How sad.  JPMiller was one of the originals.  A good person and a good fan.

Stuff like this is bound to happen when you  post with the same people for nearly 30 years, but that doesn’t make it any easier.

If Tre White can stay healthy, they will have turned a team weakness into a strength (the secondary).

And that’s good, because they will need guys that can cover a LONG time.

Rule has been tweaked.  Kicks into the end zone will now be placed at the 30 yard line instead of the 35.

They have Jones and Turner in the front 7

Turner is going to get a good deal more attention this season, and I expect his effectiveness to drop. Nothing would make me happier than to be ridiculed for this comment at the end of the season.

Yeah, I was never sold on Turner. I think he’s probably ok, but just ok.

Can you imagine if Stafford got hurt the week before a 49er game, and JG started for the Rams against Shanahan? w v

The closet Seahawks fan is out of the closet. Again.

Apparently the giddiness generated by Donald’s retirement is starting to wane. Now he’s compensating by fantasizing about Stafford getting hurt.  What’s next, Puka going blind?

Kroenke needs to erect a Ring of Honor in SoFi and Donald needs to be the first person on it. He should have a statue outside the main entrance as well.

Then they should animate the statue and draft it.

“With the 19th pick in the draft, the Los Angeles Rams select <pause for effect>… Android Donald.”

Unfortunately, everything that made AD a great DT would violate one or more of Asimov’s Laws of Robotics.

Okay. Just don’t draft Bill Hawkins, Adam Carriker, or Sean Gilbert.

3/4s of Some sort of Mt. Rushmore, there. w v

Plus Mike Shad, Jimmy Kennedy, Lawrence Phillips, Trung Candidate, et. al…

You would need an entire mountain range to hold all the visages of shame.

Of course it’s a step down from Wentz but he can win a game in a pinch as a spot starter.

Sad day.  I thought for sure he would play this season and then retire. Try for that second ring…

The Rams *were* back in the Super Bowl bubble.  The pass rush sucked last year but with Donald it wouldn’t be too difficult to fix that in a single offseason.  They didn’t need to find the next Lawrence Taylor to turn the pass rush around with AD occupying two or three o-linemen every pass play.  Now it’s going to be a much harder  fix.

Donald was my favorite player of the past couple decades.  I wish him well and hope he sticks around the team like Whit has done.

    Apparently Williams is back

so that’s one db. so edge rush, one more cornerback at least. defensive end. running back. maybe another wide receiver? is there anything else?

I’m thrilled about the additions so far.

But going into the offseason pass rush was their biggest need IMO.  There are some great edge rushers in the draft but I hope they can sign a proven vet DE/edge rusher.

    McVay joins competition committee.

    https://www.therams.com/news/sean-mcvay-added-to-nfl-competition-committee#

Rams head coach Sean McVay has been added to the NFL’s Competition Committee, the league announced Thursday.

McVay is one of the committee’s two newest members; Bills head coach Sean McDermott was announced as the other.

According to the NFL Operations website, the Competition Committee reviews all competitive aspects of the game, including (but not limited to) playing rules, roster regulations, technology, game-day operations and player protection.

“Maybe I won’t burn my timeouts in the second half so early, learn about that,” McVay jokingly said during a video conference with reporters Thursday. “Here’s what I will say. I’m humbled and I’m flattered that they would even consider to ask me.

“When you go to these league meetings over the last handful years, I’ve always been interested and intrigued about, ‘Okay, how can you affect positive change? How can you have an understanding of moving the game in the right direction?’ I think there’s coaches and there’s front office members that have done a great job of setting an example, and so when (NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations) Troy Vincent and (NFL Commissioner) Roger Goodell reached out, I was flattered. Kind of wanted to understand, alright, what are some of the commitments? How can I try to be a valuable contributor to that? And certainly looking forward to being able to learn and grow and see if we can help do some good things. But I was certainly flattered to be a part of that.”

The committee uses feedback from a variety of sources, including all 32 NFL teams, to guide its actions. According to its website, each team fills out a survey answering questions about player protection, officiating, competitive balance and technology. NFL Operations then meets with coaches, general managers, players and NCAA representatives leading up to the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis to solicit their input about possible rule changes. Data on injuries, instant replay and technology is also reviewed.

At the league’s annual meeting, the Competition Committee presents a report of its findings to the 32 owners, who then vote on any proposed new rules or rules changes. A new rule or a revision must have the support of 75 percent of the owners (24 yes votes out of 32 teams) in order to be adopted.

an improved Puka Nacua (is that even possible?).

Well he did lead the league in drops. And I saw break downs of his play where analysts pointed out that he wasn’t an accomplished route runner in 23 (he often telegraphed routes and would slow down going into hard cuts). So yes you would think he could improve if he works on things in the off-season and in camp.

Ah yes, the drops. I forgot about them.

Also, he gets tackled too often.

According to PFF, he was tackled every time he had the ball except for when he scored or ran out of bounds.

That’s just unacceptable and reflects a lack of commitment and work ethic. He needs to look into his soul and decide whether he wants to be a football player or just another LA socialite.

Umm…..how many attendees at the Ram games were actually Ram fans?

The same thought crossed my mind. It’s all the same to Kroenke, of course. Doesn’t much matter who the fans are; the color of the money is green. It will take a generation to rebuild a dedicated fan base, though they did not start with nothing. And LA will always be LA. It ain’t Green Bay. LA has 2 NFL teams, 2 MLB, 2 NBA, 2 NHL, 2 MLS, 2 NCAA FB. Never mind all the non-sports attractions. That’s just the competition for sports identity. And LA is so big, it has fans of all those NFL teams there, and if their team shows up in LA once every 8 years, they’re all going to go. Green Bay, WI just doesn’t have that many “ex-pats” living there. In any event, that chart is TOTAL attendance, both home and away, it should be noted. Here is AVERAGE home attendance. I use avg instead of total because some teams had 8 home games (Rams), and some had 9. (The Rams are at 6, the Chargers at 14).

The stadium having a large proportion of fans of the visiting team has always been a thing at LA Rams games, right?  Even in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s – ever since it’s been easy to travel, and it’s always going to be that way no matter what.  LA is a destination city.  Fans from other cities don’t travel there just to see the game.  They also want to see all the attractions.

Now, the embarrassing “60% 9ers fans” BS can and has to end. The Rams should be able to develop a following large enough so that they at least have the majority of fans in any given NFC Championship game they host at SoFi.  But some visiting teams will always have a large contingent of fans in the stands. That’s just the way it is.

you should definitely see a game there one day. i was fortunate enough to get a pair of tickets to the seahawks game. on the home side. but at the very back of the stadium. it was a very enjoyable experience. better than i thought it could be. and that monstrous screen does enhance the viewing experience for sure.

It will happen. Someday.  I didn’t remember that you lived in SoCal, invader.
On most vacations I take by the end I’m ready to go home.  That wasn’t true this time. I really liked California. That’s a nice state you got there.
