I wonder if that’s because the Rams are so “play action pass” dependent.

goff’s gotta be weaned off the play action at some point.

and now would be a good time to do it with the cardinals coming up.

Yeah. Given the issues with the o-line, and with defenses taking away the deep throws off of play action, it would be nice if they developed a quick passing game like teams often use against them to mitigate Donald.

LAC, while fighting to make the playoffs, sat Melvin Gordon till he was healthy
PIT, fighting to make the playoffs, are sitting James Conner till he is healthy
It’s odd that the Rams, who already locked up the NFCW, aren’t resting a clearly not 100% Todd Gurley till he is healthy

I wonder if that’s because the Rams are so “play action pass” dependent.

Cooper really hasn’t been producing as a returner and can’t get on the field as a WR, so this isn’t that surprising…

Could be sending a message to the team as well.

Well, if you sacrifice depth for stars, then your stars better play like stars.

The biggest problem the Rams have faced is that outside of Aaron Donald, their defensive stars have played like journeymen.

The Rams felt (and I agreed at the time) that they had pretty good depth other than at LB entering the season.

The Rams may not have good depth on the o-line, but the o-line hasn’t been injured. Entering the season nobody figured a healthy o-line would be a weakness for the Rams this season, but that’s what’s starting to happen.

But right now, the Rams look like they need a rebuild. They need help on the d-line, OLB, ILB, CB, Safety and on the o-line.

A few weeks ago I would have felt better about this game. Rams at home, facing a depleted team with a back-up QB that has only played well once (Super Bowl) in his last dozen or so starts…

    But this is now.

I don’t like how easily the Rams pass offense has been shut down the last two weeks.

I don’t like how the Rams o-line morphs into human turnstiles when pass blocking.

I don’t like how McVay doesn’t seem to be able to adjust to what defenses are doing.

I don’t like how McVay seems to have lost his feel for situational football.

I don’t like how Goff looks rattled.

Despite all that, the Rams will probably win. They are undefeated at home. They still can be Super Bowl contenders, despite the weaknesses displayed over the last couple weeks. They’ve won 5 of 7 games against teams that would be in the playoffs if the season ended today.

But to get back to being elite, they have to figure out how to counter what defenses are doing against their passing game.

    And I think they will.

    Cowboys v Colts.
    Pats v Steelers.

On paper I should be counting the NE/Pitt game as a top interesting game.

I can’t though. I’ve lived in NE long enough to see the entire Brady/BB dynasty emerge and stick around. To me it’s like trying to feed a zoo lion on hay. I can’t bring myself to be interested. Whatever energy I have regarding the Patz has to be used to restrain myself from yelling “I don’t care about them one bit!” every time someone says to me “hey how about those Patriots, you see the game?”

I’m only interested in Pats games when they have a chance to lose.

goff looked bad. but lots of good qbs have had days like this.

just can’t figure out why mcvay chose to run the ball more unless he really did want to get goff reps in cold weather.

defense played about as well as they could given what they are. hopefully, they don’t have to play another cold weather game again this year or in the playoffs.

I haven’t watched the game yet. I couldn’t watch it last night so I recorded it. Not sure if I’m going to bother to watch it now.

Barring an epic disaster, the Rams won’t have to play in a cold weather city in the playoffs. Most likely they’ll be home for the divisional game, and then travel tonNew Orleans for the conference championship.

    What did Spielman say?

He said today the Rams have been exposed as the frauds that they are.

Then he raised is fist into the air, yelled “Hail Satan!”, and jumped through the window of the broadcast booth and plummeted to his death on the seats below.

You know, just the standard football rhetoric.

Spielmann mentioned that Patricia gave the league the blueprint for defending against the Rams offense. It will be interesting to see how Goff and the offense responds against the Bears next week.

The Vikings beat the Packers Sunday night, so they move to 6-4-1 and the Pack pretty much slips out of playoff contention. Two very tough road games back to back (Patriots and Seahawks) next then two very winnable games before finishing the season at home against the Bears. I think they win nine games and make the playoffs as a wild card team.

Yeah, plus the Bears may not have anything to play for in that game. Playoff seedings will likely already be set. They may rest their starters which would hand the game to the Vikings.

I see the Vikings losing the next two games, winning the following two, and heading into the Bears game at 7-6-1.

So, it could all come down to that Bears game for the Vikings.

Yeah it’s not true though. Seen that stat before, it circulates. But this year in their opening game GB came from behind to beat the Bears, who have a winning record.

The old stat was that it was 35 games, but that was before this year.

I don;t know why whoever wrote that forgot about the Chicago game.

Did Chicago have a winning record at the time Rodgers beat them?

I’ve seen the stat presented with the caveat, ‘at the time Rodgers played them”…meaning the stat only includes teams that had winning records at the time he played them. It doesn’t include teams that had a winning record sometime before or after Rodgers played them.

So the 49ers are still in it.

What scenario would have to unfold for them to make it?

    w
    v

    1. They must win the rest of their games.

    2. Every other NFC team is pulled into a wormhole and transported across the galaxy with no way of getting back prior to the start of the playoffs.

12 of those top 20 players are still active, and another 4 of them stopped playing 3 years ago or less.

That suggests QBs haven’t gotten better, it’s just gotten easier to put up big numbers.

Matt Schaub isn’t better than Roger Staubauch.

Derek Carr isn’t better than Johnny Unitas.

Andy Dalton isn’t better than Dan Marino.

The passer rating may be fine for comparing contemporary QBs, but it’s worthless for comparisons across time.

It says more about how the game has changed than it does about a QB’s abilities.

Have the Chargers done anything for the victims of the shootings or fires? I haven’t heard of them doing anything. Meanwhile, the Rams have pretty much taken over the city.

Of course, eventually this could all change, but right now, LA has two Super Bowl contenders, but it barely realizes one of them even exists.

Former OC Lefleur is bombing in Tennessee.

The genius behind the offense is all McVay. You can take his assistants but if you think you’re going to get another MCVay you’re probably going to be disappointed.

‘Yet as he stood near the Rams’ 25-yard line, nearly a full football field away from the touchdown the Rams had to have, Goff looked about as frazzled as a guy about to take a big chunk out of his buddy’s checking account by sinking a two-inch putt.’

    An apt description by Vinnie.

The camera showed Goff’s face while he stood on the sideline waiting to take the field after the commercial break after the Chiefs went ahead.

Either he was unfazed or he has the best poker face in the league. This wasn’t the first time his cool demeanor has been mentioned, but he had never faced a challenge this big before either. This was being billed as the game of the year for weeks, and given the tragedies this team was in the midst of over the last couple weeks, it could be forgiven if Goff’s face gave away the immensity of the challenge before him.

But he had the same, calm, inexpressive look he always has – like a Vulcan.

And seeing him that away gave me confidence that he could drive the field and get a TD. It calmed me down, as I was pretty upset after the Rams managed to blow that lead. And it’s obvious based on all the articles describing Goff’s coolness that it has the same effect on his team.

I don’t know, but I’ve always preferred calm, cerebral players and coaches over the rah-rah types. McVay is a nice blend of the two. He has the best qualities of both. Goff is a steely-eyed missle man. I wouldn’t trade him for any other QB right now.

Up to now they were just under-utilized because there aren’t enough footballs to go around.

Me too. It’s just a question of having realistic expectations regarding McVay and his career.

I expect 40 years of consistent Super Bowl contention. I would think a championship every second or third year would be reasonable, right?

One Seattle douche thinks that if the Rams don’t win it all this year, they never will because they are in “salary cap hell”.

The Rams are $36 million under the 2019 cap right now, and thats with Donald, Gurley, and Cooks signed to long term deals.
