I never bought into the “defense wins championships” mantra, but it can lose them.

at this point i do not see this team beating the saints.

i want to see this defense respond after getting embarrassed last week.

i wanna see ogbo on the field and at least flash as a pass rusher.

i want to see brown continue to get an increase in touches.

i want to see donald terrorize russell wilson.

    NFL Research@NFLResearch
Todd Gurley is on pace to become the third player since 1932 to lead the NFL in scrimmage yards and scrimmage TD in back-to-back seasons

    The others?

Hall of Famers Jim Brown (1958-1959) and Don Hutson (1941-1942)

on pace. i’ll wait until the end of the season before i comment on that.

i’m not saying it all came down to this, but it was huge.

rams got a turnover in saints territory. came away with no points.

saints got a turnover in rams territory and get a touchdown.

that’s a 14 point swing right there. and maybe hekker got the first down but i don’t like the fact that it got to fourth down anyway. and sean should have gone for the fg.

as far as it being too easy to score with the new rules? i agree. they gotta give pass defenders more leeway in terms of contact with the receivers before they get the ball. and maybe not let olinemen get away with holding so much. and hopefully you get better defense without all the concussions. that’s my 2 cents anyway.

    i did notice that.

i wonder. with it most likely going down to the wire. how the fourth quarter plays out. and certainly the second stat is important too.

i guess they’ll both be key. but i’m more interested in how the defense holds up in the fourth quarter should it come down to that.

And Goff’s off day, he had a 112 rating. Didn’t he? Is that an off day?

    ha ha!

he did have a poor first half. but yeah. he did pretty well overall.

actually, i take it more as just an indication of how high the expectations have become for goff. and that’s a good thing.

I guess the Packers showed the world how to stop the Rams offense, even though ultimately, THEY DIDN’T, as the Rams racked up 416 yards, and would have hung 36 points on that brilliant Packers defense if not for Gurley’s selflessness.

    plus.

    cooper is coming back.

    Saints O, 4th quarter PPG. 12.1, ranked 1st
    Rams D, 4th quarter PPG. 2.9, ranked 1st

interesting. i’m keeping my eye on that.

if talib could come back even for just the last 4 games, that’d be perfect for getting him acclimated in time for what hopefully will be an extended playoff run.

Mack is really, really good, Just not Donald good.

yeah. and donald might be the best he’s ever been.

when a guy gets double teamed almost twice as often as the next closest defender and he still leads the league in sacks? yeah. not even close.

hopefully, fowler or anyone really can start to take advantage of that. they say the jags defensive line is loaded. but i don’t see anyone on that line drawing close to the attention that donald is.

This is outrageous, via NFL Next Gen Stats… Not only is Aaron Donald leading the league in sacks (10), he’s doing it while being double-teamed 70% of the time… practically twice as often as the other leaders.

that’s insane. still. that tells me he needs some help. someone to draw those double teams away. or at least someone to make offenses pay for double teaming him that often.

Great breakdowns as usual with Waldman. I keep forgetting to bring this up but Farr and JB both said Goff was in pain after the first sack in SF and was still dealing with soreness going into the Packer game.

ahhh… this is where i read it. i wasn’t imagining things.

goff’s tough. he made some wow throws this game. he seems to make some every week seemingly. but his footwork is also very impressive. he’s got those typewriter feet.

Rams’ first-rounders on defense: Aaron Donald, Ndamukong Suh, Michael Brockers, Mark Barron, Dante Fowler, Aqib Talib, Marcus Peters. When everyone is healthy, that’s 7 of 11 starters.

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…. that’s assuming fowler is a starter. i’m skeptical. he’s supposed to suck defending the run…

They were getting a lot of heat on Goff. Not many guys can play well in that situation. Once they handled it better, he got better. He also got hit a lot. That takes a toll. I think he’ll be fine.

i read that he got hurt on a sack or hit in the niners game. i can’t remember. maybe i imagined it.

In talking to Rams, it’d be great if Obo is ready and he’s got one more week to show he is and if so, he’ll be on the roster regardless of today’s developments.

    please…

Rams are down to 7 linemen on 53-man roster. The two backups are rookies

    yikes!

not really sure what to make of it to be honest. i mean right behind them are teams such as the cardinals, lions, and titans.

more than anything i just want to see some consistency.

hopefully, fowler can add to the pass rush. hopefully, talib comes back. and the defense can make a late push going into the playoffs.

    battle of the backfields.

brees and ingram/kamara vs goff and gurley.

should be fun. even though they don’t actually go up against each other.

they went up against another great backfield in rivers and gordon earlier in the year and outproduced them. and then shortly after the new orleans game, they’ll go against another hotshot YOUNG backfield like them in mahomes and hunt.

fun times. this is a huge stretch of the season.

I can’t say what has transpired since then, but being derailed like that is a serious thing … then a coaching change?

yeah. that’s what makes me think this could be a good thing. his rookie year was wiped out by an acl. his sophomore year he was coming off an injury and a year out of football. his third year he broke out somewhat with 8 sacks.

now this year he hasn’t been very productive. but it’s his last year. he’s playing out of position. i mean he’s a 255 pound 4-3 defensive end in that system. doesn’t seem like a fit. and the jags don’t seem interested in re-signing him. so there’s no incentive to try and fit him into the defense.

maybe as a stand-up rusher who can be moved around. maybe that’ll work. i don’t think he’s a starter. more of a situation pass rusher to start out with. but he’ll get plenty of reps here.

if going unbeaten means riding gurley into the ground, then i’m not for it. rams need to start monitoring his touches the rest of the way. give him some rest. that might mean a couple losses. but i’m ok with that. keep him fresh for the playoffs and beyond.
