i really like this running attack.

brown and hendo are both solid and tough.

burgess looked good today. but i’m bummed about his injury.

The way I see it, the Rams have at least 4 or 6 guys that will help the defense before the year is over. That is A’shawn, Lewis, Hollins, Burgess, Polite, and Long.

yeah. i’m not sure about long. i like him, but i thought he would have made an impact by now. i guess that just shows the depth of that secondary.

but i think especially at linebacker, there’s lots of players who could emerge.

i really am excited. i agree with mcvay. he provides something the other dlinemen on the rams cannot. size and power.

needless to say i hope this works out.

    Rams could use the help.

i’m hopeful. i thought i read somewhere that when the coaching staff at detroit was overhauled robinson became a casualty due to system fit.

who knows? but this is a massive massive dude. he’s got length. he’s powerful. he’s only 25 years old.

Terrell Lewis played the first 14 snaps of his career last week & it was good to see him out there. Used a long-arm on his best rep. His reaction afterwards is about how close he was to a sack. I’ll be watching him closely going forward. Rams DL could use an edge to emerge.

wow. the speed and the power and the explosion. just seems different compared to any of the other pass rushers the rams have. i hope this works out.

    Does Donald make that list?

he has to finish his career first. he’s less than halfway there.

longevity is the only question with donald at this point. but everything else is there.

but i’m not an expert or anything. i just watch donald, and i find it impossible to believe that there are 10 defensive linemen out there who are/were better than him.

i saw that you listed 8 so far. 2 of them being merlin and deacon. it’d be wild if donald made that list. that’s crazy. and i’m sure youngblood would make some people’s lists.

Deacon, Merlin, Aaron Donald, Jack Youngblood.

Can any NFL team match that?

    garsh.

    i have no clue.

gil brandt who does know a little about football.

he ranks deacon #2 and youngblood #8 all time.

he ranks donald #13 and merlin #3 all time.

this was written just 3 years into donald’s career. i imagine donald would be higher up this list.

my guess just looking at lists online. minnesota or dallas. but merlin, deacon, and jack are just so revered. universally. and aaron is right behind them. he just hasn’t put in the years yet. he’s only in his seventh year. a lot of these defensive tackles played 13-14 seasons. he’s got a long way to go.

just looking at tackles minnesota has page and randle. dallas has lilly and white.

minnesota has carl eller and chris doleman at defensive end. dallas has… haley. but i don’t think he holds up against the rams’ defensive ends.

donald can if he plays long enough at a high caliber. i think it ceases to become an argument. but right now minnesota has them. 5 more high caliber seasons donald has to put in.

That’s insane to me. I never, ever believed it was possible for a interior defensive lineman to be this productive.

now there are some great dlineman to have put on a rams uniform. just crazy that donald belongs in the same conversation as them.

their run defense is not stout

just popped into my head what impact robinson would be able to make when he gets back.

Rams defense is 4th in the league in yards per game and 3rd in points per game.

    it’s nuts. i didn’t even realize.

not only that but they lead all teams in ypa allowed. they are tied for the lead in sacks (pittsburgh does have a game in hand so second assuming pittsburgh gets at least one sack in that game). third in passer rating allowed. second in passing yards allowed.

i still feel like the tackling could get better. their run defense is not stout. but if the front seven can keep putting pressure on the qb, this pass defense should be real good.

The 49ers sure do suck, though. I mean… that’s a quality life experience right there. That can go on forever, as far as I’m concerned.

i saw that. hopefully, the dolphins leave some meat on that carcass for next week.

my biggest disappointment is not seeing as much lewis as i would have liked. but understandable that the rams would want to ease him back in.

    polite flashed.

    reeder flashed lots.

this defense needs reps. especially with no preseason. i’m more interested in what the defense looks like the second half of the season.

    aaron donald. always a pleasure.

liked what i saw of akers.

not completely convinced by the defense. rain was a contributing factor i think. but they did what they were supposed to do. and it was good to see them getting pressure on the qb.

this is the performance i was expecting last week against the giants.

last week i said they should have won easily. so i’m not making any predictions.

i will enjoy watching goff though. i’ll enjoy watching the return of akers and the rams rushing attack.

and i hope to see some terrell lewis.

ahhh. the greg roman offense. he was with the niners too when harbaugh coached. i like his rushing attack. glad to see mcvay borrowing from him.

Well he did say that he thought he was a little too conservative. But I dunno.

you’re right. but i’d also like to hear what he says after watching film. what was the defense doing to the rams offense? was the deep ball just not there with goff checking down? did goff have to audible out of plays based on what he was seeing? did he miss receivers downfield?

at first i agreed with you. i liked the methodical approach the rams were taking although i admittedly got nervous there toward the end.

i thought the comment posted in another thread about the rams having to scale back their running attack due to the absence of noteboom was interesting. maybe the giants noticed this in the bills game last week and the rams got more predictable in the run game? i have no idea. but it could partially explain why the rushing game wasn’t as effective as it was the first 3 weeks.

Since Noteboom went down, Rams have not run a single power, long or short trap. Edwards just cannot pull it off, sorry for the pun. Also, screen game down, Edwards cannot hit moving targets as well. However, he’s been solid otherwise. Noteboom needs to stay healthy.

    interesting.

While watching yesterday’s display of offensive ineptitude, I wondered what happened to the Rams’ downfield passing game? The one medium to deep ball they connected on yesterday (Kupp TD) was a blown coverage.

i’d like to hear/read what mcvay says about that.

I dunno, but i just think this is what the Rams Offense looks like when you take away the run. The Giants took away the run. And when that happens, all those short passes by the rams dont amount to much.

right now i’m thinking it’s one of two things.

either mcvay has no plan for when the rams run game is stalled.

or mcvay knows the oline can’t hold up if they go too pass heavy.

the other possibility of course is that goff needs the run game to thrive. i don’t think that’s the case though. goff looked good today.

So, one wonders if maybe they just stopped a lot of the Rams tendencies. Which would mean, some low-scoring games to come — unless McV adjusts.

i bet it’s some of that. i thought goff did a good job. the defense seemed to be taking a lot of stuff away and he would have to go through his progressions. and he was still producing. hopefully mcvay self scouts and makes the offense less predictable.

some of it is probably just a very desperate giants team that was backed into a corner.

i’m most disturbed by the rams horrendous inability to tackle. they were getting gashed. this defense is definitely flawed.

And I’m no expert, but when I was watching Goff, it appeared he was going through his progressions.

i saw the same thing, and the announcers kept mentioning it.
