it’s a long shot but if edwards could take over at left tackle next year that’d be huge. i’d just be happy if he could make the left guard spot his own.

didn’t realize how young he actually was. he’s only 22, so he has a ways before he matures physically. should be interesting.

Ogbo is going to get his sacks. It’s coming soon. This a back to back rep where he puts a pressure on Matt Ryan. Look at the first round OT the Falcons traded up with the #Rams to get?!? Devonta Freeman? Nope. Okoronkwo comes close again to getting a sack. Great stuff out of 45

i’d like to see ogbo get more reps. might need him next season.

Except for missing Matthews, that would have nothing to do with the reduced playbook for the secondary and all the head games and disguises they use.

well actually i think it would. any hesitation by a qb due to confusion would put stress on the oline.

In terms of injuries…the Rams secondary is so deep they could work around missing Johnson.

i’m not quite sure i buy that. rams routinely use three safeties.

So I would never say the Rams D was hampered for various reasons and just lucked into playing an inferior offense.

well. i certainly am not arguing that.

i do argue that the oline played an inferior falcons front 7. although interestingly enough i looked at oline rankings, and they rank the rams oline 7th in run blocking and 6th in pass protection. go figure. it does take into account strength of opponent.

They have Mack at center and Matthews at LOT so I just assumed they shouldn’t be THAT bad. But…I guess they’ve been struggling and the Rams then came in and ate em up.

that may be true. i don’t know enough about the falcons oline.

but i also know that the rams defense is at less than 100% right now. both through injury and the fact that the rams were not able to use the full playbook.

so i also hope/expect this defense to get better as the season progresses.

they’re forgetting matthews too who was on track to have the best season in terms of sacks of his career. his entire freaking career. so you got matthews and fowler coming at quarterbacks from opposite sides. you got the best player in the nfl wreaking havoc from the defensive line and a lockdown corner who can handle the other team’s best receiver almost by himself. they also have possibly one of the better trio of safeties in the league.

so it will be interesting to see IF it all comes together. which it hasn’t. yet.

i can only hope that kromer and the oline keep grinding away. kromer said before the season began that the oline would be a work in progress the entire season. hopefully, the rams can sneak into the playoffs, and the rebuilt oline is firing on all cylinders by the end of the season.

well ramsey improves coverage and the pass rush for the reasons listed in that article. he not only locks his man up. but he does it while freeing up other guys to do other things instead of helping him out. and gives the opposing offense more things to think about. and they couldn’t even play the whole defense cuz he’s still catching up. and he hasn’t played in 3 weeks.

so not bad. i’m curious to see what the defense looks like when he does catch up. when he’s shaken off the rust. when guys like matthews, johnson, and talib come back.

I just cant see them beating good teams, with good defenses with this OLine. I mean, thats what they will have to beat to go anywhere — good-teams-with-good-defenses.

yeah. that’s why i wasn’t for the trade. i thought oline was the bigger need. it’s just in shambles and yesterday’s game against a weak front seven doesn’t necessarily make me feel better.

i don’t know how they fit it all under the cap. but if they can retain ramsey and fowler and still address the oline, i think they have a chance maybe next year? i don’t know.

but whit’s gone next year. how in the hell do they replace whit? edwards??? noteboom??? big question marks right now. if they can figure out left tackle, i won’t worry so much about the other oline positions. but left tackle is a big hole to fill. how do they fill it?

i don’t know what to make of that.

on the one hand, i commend him for his loyalty. and that it really isn’t just about the money for him.

on the other hand, i wanna say are you crazy or just stupid? that’s a lot of money to turn down. and nfl teams have proven time and again that they don’t care much for their players.

but the guy definitely lived by a code. gotta respect that.

Goff broke #45’s ankle on his touchdown run. He had some shake today. LOL

i don’t know who originally coined the term, but “giraffe mode” was hilarious to watch.

somebody has to get that nickname out to goff.

Sean McVay initially said Marqui Christian would replace John Johnson in the starting lineup if the safety missed extended time, but that wasn’t the approach on Sunday. Yes, Christian played a lot (80% of the snaps) and had a good game, but it was Taylor Rapp who saw his role grow more. He played nearly every snap, leading the defense at 98%. Christian played 80%, while Eric Weddle was out there for 84% of the plays – essentially every meaningful snap on defense.

    yeah. that’s so encouraging.

i don’t know whether the trade was the right decision or not.

but next year the secondary should consist of safeties weddle, johnson, and rapp.

the corners will be ramsey, robey-coleman, and i’m betting on long to make it. rams have a good record of drafting defensive backs.

outside long that’s a helluva secondary you got there.

at this point i hope they use whatever draft resources they have toward replacing brockers. maybe they find a way to re-sign fowler after what i hope is a productive 2019. i figure the secondary and the lb corps is set. dline then becomes an issue i think.

i gotta think that the coaching staff is fairly confident that either edwards or noteboom can take over at left tackle.

edwards is very young. only 22. hasn’t been through the strength and conditioning program yet. so maybe kromer really likes what he’s seen from him. that would be a cheap replacement. i’m guessing talib’s salary and whit’s salary could go toward re-signing ramsey.

i don’t see them signing a vet fa on the oline. mostly cheap talent.

i guess i could see this oline.

    edwards corbett allen ? hav

i’m guessing ? would be a developmental prospect. demby, evans…

and then of course noteboom is somewhere in the equation after he hopefully comes back successfully from knee surgery.

and then as you say brockers comes off the books. maybe that goes toward bringing back one of fowler or littleton. but there’s also kenny young who’d be a cheap alternative at inside lb.

i just hope. and obviously mcvay can do whatever the hell he wants. but i hope at least the oline gets more preseason reps to jell a little bit before the regular season starts.

also with jalen. you gotta figure he’s still shaking off some rust. so all in all. decent performance against a future hofer with the ability to get better.

The way I see it. Noteboom and Edwards are the eventual tackles. That depends on NB’s recovery. Allen is set at center. They have candidates at guard but we don’t know about them yet (in terms of redshirting as a rookie an.d emerging in year 2, the Rams keep doing that at several positions).

This OL will develop…and for those who say the ATL DL was no test, it’s the opposite with the SF DL, which is one of the 2-3 best in the league.

i’m assuming brian allen makes it as center. i think knowing the line calls and being smart are more important than anything else. and i think he should have that down.

i’ll assume left guard is edwards.

and then either noteboom, hav, or evans takes the right tackle spot. so that leaves left tackle and right guard.

right guard should be the easier of the two to fill. but left tackle. that’s not an easy position to fill. and are usually filled with elite athletes. that’s not going to be easy. shoot. he might not even be on this team right now. which is scary.

well they’re close to a wild card spot and with lots of football left to play.

hopefully, the oline continues to jell. and matthews, talib, and johnson can come back at the end of the season.

But its really just the OLine thats the glaring problem now.

well edwards was very promising today. i’m hoping he can take at least the left guard spot and make it his own. he’s 22 and raw. but lots of potential supposedly. i don’t know what they do about left tackle though. maybe edwards is the eventual left tackle? i thought it’s be noteboom. not so sure now. but maybe he’s a better tackle than a guard. either way he’s fighting a battle to get his knee right.

Rams get arguably a worse team next week. In a location they play well in under McVay.

yeah bengals is another “should win”.

they are worse on defense AND offense and don’t have the luxury of playing at home. and ramsey should be sharper next week than this week you’d think.

just gonna put this out there and see what people say.

could the rams have done better in adjusting the defense to peters’ strengths?

as it is, i think pff rated him pretty highly this season despite giving up some big plays.

and i ask all this while conceding that ramsey is the better overall cornerback. i don’t think there can be any question about that. based on what i’m reading and hearing it seems like ramsey is the type to make a defense better – much like an aaron donald. peters doesn’t seem to have that transformative ability.

I thought the offensive line played better, the defense played better, Goff played better.

i thought the protection was better. but it should have been considering the defense they were facing. run offense still is sputtering though.

and the passing game still had timing problems. whatever the reason for that was despite better pass protection.

As for Ramsey and a possible new contract, this deal was not contingent on making him the highest-paid corner. The team did broach the topic before trading for Ramsey, but the expectation is it’ll be handled in the offseason. Ramsey is due to make $13.7 million in 2020.

if they don’t re-sign him, they really will look like idiots.

i really do hope he’s that generational shutdown corner. and i also hope that he’s signed long-term.

    does fowler step up?

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001066374/article/jared-goff-getting-too-much-blame-plus-two-week-7-sleepers?campaign=Twitter_atn

Last season, opposing defenders entered a 5-foot halo in Goff’s field of vision and decreased his ability to complete passes (i.e. caused disruption) at the 21st-highest rate of 14.4 percent. This season, though, Goff has seen the opposition’s disruptive pressure nearly double to 27.6 percent (sixth-most). In terms of win share, my measurements have the O-line unit going from seventh-best in 2018 (2.7) to 24th this season (1.4). Increased penalties and decreased efficiency in the run game partly drive this win-share dip — and act as a double-whammy in terms of also setting up Goff for passing downs where pressure is more likely. I don’t think Sean McVay wanted Goff to spend a game attempting the third-most passing attempts in NFL history — 68 in the Week 4 loss to Tampa Bay — but L.A.’s lackluster O-line play is throwing off the team’s offensive balance.

well i hope all this forces goff to be more quick with his decisions and maybe even force him to see the field better. read defenses better. know his own offense better.

i think in the long run this should be a good experience for him.

but yeah. things had been going too good for goff. this was bound to happen at some point. but this guy has a track record of overcoming things like this. let’s see how he adjusts to this.

i quickly read his draft profile, and he played several positions in college including safety.

so he’d make a good safety prospect down the road i would think.

i thought the same thing billy.

my only guess is they thought they could adapt or maybe they thought they could make him something he’s not which wouldn’t be the first time a coach has thought that.

and i agree ramsey would make a good safety candidate down the road.

they better keep this guy long term or that’s 2 first rounders down the toilet.

Done without a new deal for Ramsey. IIRC, the Rams were willing to trade for Mack last year without giving him a new deal as well.

    Carpe diem I guess.

well last year it woulda been worth it.
