interesting.
InvaderRamModeratorprobably best case scenario possible.
i liked weddle. but if there was any position where the rams could afford to lose a starter it’d be one of the safety positions. and they actually gain cap space from this.
InvaderRamModeratori can just take comfort in knowing that the niners are in misery.
mahomes struggled a little bit. but shoot if he isn’t the best qb in the league.
InvaderRamModeratorgreatest rams receiver of all time.
shoulda happened sooner.
InvaderRamModeratori don’t agree with everything rogan says.
but i hope we aren’t so tribal. so fractured. that we can’t just accept our similarities and only focus on our differences.
i think a lot of this is manufactured by people who don’t want bernie to win the democratic nomination. i’m thinking most bernie supporters aren’t disappointed about rogan’s “endorsement”, and i’m thinking, if anything, it’ll sway more people toward him than from him.
also, i agree with that previous video where the guy said that hey. accept it. accept the people who may be swayed toward bernie and by accepting them, maybe a dialogue can be opened up where more change can happen.
i mean do we want to divide or unify?

Do McVay’s schematics play a part in Jared’s current struggles against pressure?Rich Hammond@Rich_Hammond

I found some interesting numbers that I might explore in more depth in another story.
According to SportRadar, Goff had a QBR of 54.7 when pressured. That ranked him 13th among all quarterbacks who generally were considered starters this season. That helps illustrate why a lot of fans and pundits can’t agree when it comes to Goff. That isn’t awful, but it’s not great, either. Also, Goff had a QBR of 74.4 when pressured in 2018, and he was sacked far more often in 2018 (33 times) than in 2019 (22 times). I’m getting a migraine just trying to process what it all means.
i wonder if a lot of that has to do with the run pass ratios going out of whack this season.
whether that’s due to gurley’s health or the oline or playcalling issues i don’t know.

InvaderRamModeratorhis short shuttle (4.07s) and 3 cone (6.81s) times are quite exceptional too!

InvaderRamModeratori might have to watch the superbowl and root for kansas city to destroy san francisco. they must be stopped!
InvaderRamModeratorSo do we call letting Saffold go “a mistake” or do we call it, just an inevitable consequence of having a cap, etc. Is it something they should have forseen or is it a case of everything-is-easy-in-hindsight.
I dunno. He had plenty of injuries/surgeries over the years. I can see how the Rams might not want to bet on him and give him a long contract. On the other hand he was such a solid and powerful player when he was healthy. I dunno. Turned out bad though. At least for one year.
Football is tricky. They bet on Gurley. Bit them in the butt. They didnt bet on Saffold. Bit them in the butt.
w
va lot of it depends on how noteboom would have done. no one could have predicted him getting injured.
although early returns weren’t looking the best.
and who knows? maybe 2 years from now we’ll have a completely different opinion on this depending on how the young guys do.

InvaderRamModeratoralso i think phillips did a good job.
especially considering all the changes going on at defensive back. the lack of edge rushers. yeah. he did more than a good job.
InvaderRamModeratorHis defense played awfully good in the three most important games last year — the Playoff games: Cowboys, Saints, Patriots.
All that experience. All that knowledge. All that success.
And yet, apparently, McVay thinks he didnt do enough. McVay wants more. More flexibility on defense. More Adjustments to different offenses.
What do we think of the job Wade did in his three years?
I’m conflicted. I can sorta see both sides.
It may not matter that much. It pales in significance compared to the OLine issue.
w
vyeah. i’m not sure where this came from.
did it come from mcvay. i assume so. how do we know if it’s the right decision? this isn’t some grizzled veteran coach. mcvay has three years experience. he’ll be 34 in a couple weeks. and i’m sure he’s consulted with family and colleagues.
this is the first time i’ve wondered if mcvay has made the right decision.
ultimately though they had to move on from sonofbum. maybe this was mcvay’s way of letting him down easy? i do think if he was still under contract that mcvay would have kept him.
January 15, 2020 at 11:32 pm in reply to: Hammond: Insight into new Rams DC Staley … & more articles post-hire #110470InvaderRamModeratori hope it works out.
but the rams defense was already pretty good, and now you’re going to change coordinators.
just hope this wasn’t a knee jerk reaction to a down season.
InvaderRamModeratoryeah. not so sure letting son of bum go was the right move.
InvaderRamModeratoryeah. more 12 personnel in 2020! and everett wasn’t even really seeing the field much toward the end. hopefully he heals up, and we see them both on the field more at the start of the season.
InvaderRamModeratorI say all that because of the Gurley thing. I have doubts now that McVay/Rams will ever be scary-good again.
the rams run/pass ratio was out of whack. i don’t know what the problems were. oline. gurley. a combination. i don’t know if it was the reason the offense was sputtering or just a symptom. but the rams won’t succeed if there’s no balance.
InvaderRamModeratorIn a weird way, this may have been one of his best coaching years.
in a way, yes. but in a way it also exposed some of his weaknesses. mainly his inability or unwillingness to adapt to what was going on with the team.
i think it may have cost them at least one game. then again the way they kept that oline together was impressive. it was decimated by injuries. right now i’m thinking mcvay learns from this season and gets better. i think hiring an offensive coordinator is a sign that he has. hopefully, he’s a guy who will challenge mcvay.
InvaderRamModeratorAnd then there’s the Belichick type of systems that are complicated and harder to learn and execute. This kind of system has a higher ceiling I would think — but its harder to get there, and stay there, and you need lots of smart players.
the thing though is belichick seemingly can find these players year after year.
so there must be a certain profile of person they’re looking for?
not necessarily super athletic but just smart. can the rams find these kinds of players? i think they can. at least at certain positions.
InvaderRamModeratorfirst of all. i’m glad they didn’t go with barry. nothing against him. but barry’s record as a defensive coordinator isn’t all that impressive if i remember correctly. and i’d rather mcvay go outside his comfort zone and hire somebody from the outside.
i like reading all the things about the fangio defense. but they didn’t hire fangio. and just like hiring a mcvay protege doesn’t guarantee success, neither does hiring an assistant coach from the fangio defense mean that the defense will be immediately improved. but mcvay must have been impressed after meeting this guy.
also. along with hiring an offensive coordinator, i hope mcvay starts to get more involved with the defense. it would be better i believe for the long-term.
InvaderRamModeratormy first thought is… who???
At the 2008 NFL Combine, O’Connell ran the 40-yard dash in 4.61 seconds
and well a 4.61 40. that’s the first thing i look for when deciding on an offensive coordinator…
haha. seriously though. i have no idea who this guy is. but i’ll trust the rams on this hire. and i am glad that they decided to get an offensive coordinator. this will hopefully be good for mcvay.
January 9, 2020 at 12:30 am in reply to: Is McVay going to adequately replace both Wade & Bones? #110227InvaderRamModeratorthis off-season could kill mcvay’s tenure with the rams.
should be interesting. i certainly hope that he makes the right choice.
InvaderRamModeratorMcVay not only wants to be more involved in some of the defensive conceptualizing moving forward, but he wants coaches challenging themselves to be more creative every single week based on the opponent. Be better physically in-game, but think better mentally in preparation.
i agree with everyone. this could be a mistake. but i’m also intrigued if mcvay is really interested in getting more involved on the defensive side.
but yeah. this is a big void to be filled now.
InvaderRamModeratorThe difference? Rice had HOF QB Steve Young throwing to him. Bruce had Chris Miller and Mark Rypein as his QBs.
well. not necessarily. it could also be argued that he was the only option and thus had more opportunities than rice would have gotten. bruce was targeted 199 times to rice’s 176. bruce caught 119 of those targets for a 59.8% catch percentage. rice caught 122 of his targets for a 69.3% catch percentage.
conversely, it could be argued that rice had less attention focused on him being in an offense with more options. so who really knows?
i just know that bruce is an all timer in my eyes. don’t need to compare him to other players to see that. and he deserves to be in the hall of fame.
InvaderRamModeratorGoff’s play was “up” throughout December, and a lot of things people have been complaining about were being addressed by his play.
December: In 5 games, Goff was 133 of 216, 61.6%, for 11TDs, 4 INTs, & an avg. qb rating of 98.6.
Not where he can be or where we want him to be, and they just went 3-2 in that stretch, but a marked turnaround from November.
In case people haven’t seen it, here’s a good example of his play improving in an area where he has been criticized–play under pressure. The play in question is 4:17 in on this vid–Goff evades the rush and makes a great throw on the run to Woods.
i suspect. and i have no way of actually proving this. but if the rams can fix the oline and if they can get more balance, i think goff could be even better than he was in 2018.
they don’t even have to have the same running game of 2018. but if the running can at least take some pressure off goff so he isn’t having to throw it so damn much.
i think that this year will be helpful to him in making quicker decisions. make him better at recognizing what defenses are doing to him. he’s a tough kid. and his track record has been that adversity will make him a better player.
of course it’s not a given that the oline will be fixed next year. that’s my biggest concern.

Starting a dive into the Rams’ salary-cap situation reminds me how Les Snead was mocked for re-signing Tyler Higbee four months ago. Guess those days are over.Much of the offseason hinges on whether Whitworth comes back. The problem with doing cap projections is I have absolutely no idea how much he would re-sign for. He averaged $11m on his last deal. What’s the 1-year market value for a solid 38-year-old tackle?
yeah. whit. i don’t know if he is done or not. i read the earlier tweet that he was one of the highest graded offensive tackles in the second half of the season. maybe the problem was the other 4/5 of the offensive line? i don’t know. but they gotta re-sign him i think. and then hope that edwards, evans, and the others keep developing. maybe havenstein comes back? and edwards and evans can play guard?
InvaderRamModeratorrams may have been dropping some hints this year on the new team colors.
Are the Rams subtly teasing their new color scheme for 2020?
i’m not so sure about this. have to see the uniform and more importantly the helmet first.
InvaderRamModeratorWe got 2 of the top 10. And Higbee is looking like the real deal. The 2 best TEs in the NFC may be Kittle and Higbee.
don’t know how reliable pff is. but again. mcvay should have been using more 2 te sets it looks like.
