InvaderRamModeratori wouldn’t have paid that. what is this team thinking?
InvaderRamModeratorThat was just too expensive. You can’t blame Watkins, he went with the money. But considering what he brought last year, the price tag was way too high.
Last year WRs in his tier (like Adams and Jeffrey) got 13-14 M. Contracts go up. This year the expected range for WRs in that tier would be 15-16 M. That sounds like more or less what we should have expected.
i’m not sure he’s in that tier. regardless he was their third most productive receiver on the team. too much money for your third receiver.

InvaderRamModeratori don’t know. they just got rid of alex smith. they do have a promising young qb, but it looks like they’re in rebuild mode. it’s not the best situation for success. they do have andy reid, and he knows offense.

InvaderRamModeratorhere’s a piece on rashaan evans. vea’s just a pipe dream, but i’m really warming up on evans. i like his versatility. i think his intangibles are off the charts. lots of leadership potential there. tough and intelligent. competitive.
the article has some animated gifs.
“I’ve always told each team that I meet with, I always want them to understand that I’m an unselfish player,” Evans says. “Whatever it is that you need me to do, I can do it, and I can do it at a high level and do it with an IQ to actually play it. That’s the No. 1 thing I always want teams to take into account whenever they’re evaluating me.”

InvaderRamModerator
VID that’s based on:
of those teams.
i would want the rams.
but that’s just me. but outside of the rams, my next choice would be the packers followed by the jaguars.
the bears and the chiefs look like a disaster right now to me.

InvaderRamModeratori think they’d have to trade up to draft vea.
and it’d probably require a future second rounder at the very least.
but then. on paper at least. they’d have a top notch dline to go with a top notch secondary. on paper at least.
then potentially you’d have this.
brockers vea donald
ebukam littleton barron rolb
peters joyner johnson talib
rolb would be filled perhaps by barwin. and the third round draft pick. but the push that dline would create. the number of blockers that beefy line would occupy…
not to mention the run defense. i might even feel for offenses trying to run on that front seven.

InvaderRamModeratorrams meet with vea
Report: Rams meet with stud NT Vita Vea at Washington pro day
this has me a little excited. maybe by some miracle he slips into the bottom half of the first round.
that’d be a helluva defensive line.
InvaderRamModeratorRashaan Evans, LB, Alabama 8
Evans is a versatile, playmaking linebacker. He moved all over the field in the Alabama defense. He aligned off the ball in the middle of the defense, stood up outside and even occasionally put his hand in the ground as a defensive end in pass-rush situations. Against the run, he’s a tick late to key/read, but once he makes up his mind, he closes in a hurry. He runs right through blockers and if he doesn’t make the tackle, he creates a pileup to slow down the ball carrier. He has outstanding speed to range sideline to sideline. He will miss an occasional tackle in space because he rarely breaks down, instead looking for the big hit. In coverage, he can easily mirror tight ends and backs. He will even match up in the slot at times. He isn’t a polished pass rusher, but he can win with pure speed and effort. Overall, Evans is a tone-setter on defense and his versatility is a huge asset.this is what intrigues me about evans. i think vander esch has that potential too as does edmunds.
edmunds is gone in the top 10 i have to think. that leaves evans vs vander esch.
i don’t know which way i’d go. today i’d go evans. he not only has the potential to do it all. he HAS done it all on that alabama defense. only problem is athletically he doesn’t pop out at me, and i fear that he may be a product of having great talent around him. i don’t know. but he’d give the defense a lot of options.
now if landry is still available at 23. i think i take him over the previous two. his pass rushing potential is off the charts. he might be less versatile, but i don’t care. his pass rushing abilities are off the charts. then you draft the inside linebacker in the later rounds. maybe josey jewell. or maybe you already got the guy on your team in littleton.
but a landry and donald combo with complimentary pieces around those 2? wow. they should get a lot of sacks with that secondary playing behind them. then they need a nose tackle.
but that’s
brockers nt donald
ebukam ilb barron landry
peters joyner johnson taliblandry and donald on the same side could be devastating.
InvaderRamModeratorI’d rather wait till the later rounds to get our edge rusher. Chad Thomas, Lorenzo Carter, Darius Jackson and Tyquan Lewis are expected to be 3rd day picks. Carter and Thomas areexpected to be mid 3rd to mid 4 round picks.
I’d prefer to trade out of round 1, if possible, and go into the 2nd round, and draft a future LT.
a possibility. ideally you’d have insurance for whitworth. but as of now i don’t think that’s going to happen. you don’t trade for 2 corners with 2 years left on their contracts and not be in a win now mode. i fully expect them to go all out in rebuilding the defense this year. those wade defenses always had a ferocious pass rush to go with those secondaries. i don’t think you mess around. i think you try to get that guy early.
at first i was thinking they could sign a guy, but that’s a lot of money.
i could see this happening. they could sign a nose tackle in free agency. i think you could sign daquan jones from tennessee for 4-5 million a year?
then draft rashaan evans in the first round. i really want landry, but i think he’ll be gone. he’s too good. teams are gonna put on his junior tape, and someone’s going to draft him before 20. but i like evans too. he’ll replace ogletree. he’s better against both the run and pass than ogletree is. and his intangibles are through the roof. tough and intelligent. old school mentality. but his skills are new school. he can play multiple roles for a team and has even rushed off the edge some for alabama. had 6 sacks last year. 15 career sacks. like i said he can rush off the edge but also blitz from the inside.
then in the third round you draft a josh sweat. i believe he’s gonna drop due to medical issues. probably won’t have great long-term prospects. but might be good for three years at least. i keep reading he was misused in college. and so i think his production is a little misleading. other than his knee, he’s got it all. explosive and athletic. supposed to have a good motor. and extremely long.
that’d give you
brockers jones donald
ebukam evans barron sweat
peters joyner johnson talibthat’s a helluva starting 11 right there.
but then who knows what they do in free agency. maybe they find some bargain free agents. and then they find their future lot with the first pick. i could see that too. and then still draft a josh sweat in the third round.
InvaderRamModeratorYeah, we will.
But in the mean time, bear in mind that the 49ers first choice was also Talib, and Sherman is Plan B. So they were thinking the same thing the Rams were.
i think at this point talib is the safer bet, but if sherman comes back healthy he’s younger and he’s got better intangibles i would think.
and i’m sure salary played a big part in talib being more desirable as well.
InvaderRamModeratori guess i didn’t realize talib blacks out at times and has shot himself in the leg…
hmmmm….
Well… at least he’s never blacked out or shot himself during a game. I mean…look on the bright side.
haha. yeah. amazingly he hasn’t seemed to miss too much game time.

InvaderRamModeratori’m thinking more and more like landry has to be the guy. he’d be a steal at the rams’ pick. but most likely rams would have to trade up to get him.
if not him i want rashaan evans. he’s mainly an inside backer, but i also read that he has been used as a situational edge rusher. or possibly trade down.
but they need a pass rush.
InvaderRamModeratori guess i didn’t realize talib blacks out at times and has shot himself in the leg…
hmmmm….
InvaderRamModeratoryounger corner coming off an injury vs older corner who knows the defense but can be a loose cannon.
i guess we’ll find out if the rams made the right choice.
InvaderRamModeratorWith a fierce, Aaron Donald-led pass rush generating pressure on the passer, the combination of gambling and guessing could lead to a bushel basket of turnover treats for the Rams.
problem is donald needs help in the pass rush.
InvaderRamModeratorand didn’t mcvay have problems with that in washington? red zone offense?
InvaderRamModeratori think defenses will adjust to mcvay.
but the thing is. i remember reading an article a couple days ago about baker mayfield. and he was talking about how mcvay was picking his brain about the oklahoma offense. i think this guy is constantly evaluating and reevaluating his offense. tweaking it.
we’ll just have to see.
more importantly though. goff and co have to improve themselves. defenses may adjust. but goff can get better. gurley and kupp can both get better.
but they could also regress.
so i guess we’ll see. but i think the real key is goff. can he build on an excellent sophomore season? if he can’t defenses will figure out how to shut him down soon enough.
InvaderRamModeratorquestion. i know the rams stated they’re still interested in re-signing nickell robey-coleman. but i just read that shields played nickel back his rookie season. the season the packers won the superbowl.
is shields nrc’s replacement? or is he strictly a backup to talib and peters?
InvaderRamModerator“Some days it’s tough headaches. Some days it’s mild,” Shields said in January 2017. “It varies. I never know. I’m so used to it that it’s just normal. Like I said, each day it’s getting better. I’ll be back.”
it was over a year ago. still…
InvaderRamModeratori wish him luck wherever he goes.
InvaderRamModeratornice!
he puts talib as one of the corners he admires.
i’m loving this. hopefully, peters is picking his brain apart, so he can be the best cornerback in the league.
he mentions richard sherman too. he coulda been good on the rams too. supreme leader. intelligent. physical.
just please let this work out!
InvaderRamModeratori like landry. he looks a little pumped up. his playing weight is probably closer to 240 pounds, but von miller doesn’t look all that big either. but then. landry is just a tick below miller in terms of explosion and quickness. rams really need to hit on edge rusher. i don’t think the secondary can reach peak powers without an awesome pass rush.
i like tim settle. i don’t know that he lasts until the third round. i really doubt it from what i read. he seems highly regarded, and i doubt teams take his combine performance too seriously.
i really like noteboom from what i’ve read as well as his combine performance. no way he lasts until the sixth. i don’t think he even lasts until the third. but if he does, i would think the rams would pounce on that.

Guess we don’t need a corner high anymore … I’m doing this in 2 sections … top 5 and dart board …
I think we resign Watkins.
Top 5
1) Harold Landry Edge… smooth movement skills, 4.6 40 … burst, bend and flatten to the QB. I think he’s probably a better overall player than Vic Beasley was coming out but the higher profile athletes are marginalizing his ability. I was hoping he wouldn’t come out last year so we’d have a shot at him this year. Backup plan: Lorenzo Carter
We may even be able to trade down here and still get him or Carter or Key.3) Tim Settle NT. Rough combine will have him slide. Great. He’s a nose tackle. I need him to “not move” better than he “moves.”
4) Will Clapp OC. Center and OG that can backup a year if needed.
4) Micah Kiser ILB … signal caller and “heart of the defense” kinda guy that should go higher … but the position has a lot of talent this year.
Dart Board My guess is that these will be used to get picks in 19′ or to move up in this draft … but since they’re here, I’ll use them.
6) Durham Smythe TE … bad combine, high talent at the position, he slides.
6) Joe Noteboom DT Kinda pedestrian but could be a decent RT and finish the game at OLT in a pinch.
6) Travon Young rOLB This guy gets no love, no idea why.
6) Godwin Iqwebuike S Liked him for years, tested better than I thought.
6) Daurice Fountain WR Put on a show at the East West game and got no combine invite.
I’ll wait to pick up CBs and more DTs in UDFA to fill our final roster spot or compete for the practice squad.
Also, when it comes to ILB, TE, OC and NT .. I have backup plans in Jason Cabinda ILB, Ryan Izzo, Khalil Mckenzie NT, and Brian Allen OC

InvaderRamModeratori like cris carter’s point that talib can be a good mentor to peters as strange as that sounds. i don’t know that i completely buy it yet. but if he can be that mentor. and he has been in the past to other corners. that could make this pairing even better.
peters is the one who intrigues me the most. he’s entering his peak years. he’s got all world potential. i think this is a situation that really could bring the best out of him. talib’s preparation is supposed to be impeccable. just things like learning to study game film. study an opponent. little things could propel peters to greatness.
and not just bring the best out of peters. but joyner and johnson too. talib could have an influence on all these young defensive backs.
InvaderRamModeratorthey need an edge rusher.
sign avery williamson. then draft the best pass rusher available. then draft a nose tackle.
unless vea is available. then draft vea…
i can’t take this. draft needs to happen next week already.
InvaderRamModeratorjust read that the rams are the only team to have four secondary players with a pff grade over 85.
that’s something.
InvaderRamModeratorI’m looking at Mason Foster myself. Love to see the Rams sign him.
that’d be an option too. and would be cheaper. i don’t know that the rams have enough cap space for williamson.

what is this fo going to do next?
InvaderRamModeratorI want a NT.
that would be good too.
best player available.
vita vea? da’ron payne? then they could draft their linebackers in the later rounds.
