I think, though, the play has to be closer to the end of the game to affect the outcome so much.

On The Tackle: The Rams would have still had OT to beat the Titans, and it wasn’t like the Titans were right on the goal line before that play.

I just don’t know about Hundley. If the Rams draft him, hopefully it’s not the 1st round, and hopefully he can learn the NFL game for a year before thrown to the wolves.

“He went through the school justice system,” Smith said, according to the Tampa Bay Times. “He was cleared. He went through our court system and he was cleared. Exonerated.”

Smith said that Winston should be not condemned for the mistakes he made in school.

“They’re bad decisions and believe me, he’s been drug across the mud,” Smith said.

Well, apart from the incomprehensible grammar and mixed cliches …

This is a remarkable level of rationalization.

The school system cleared him. Must be OK.

Man, I am glad we have little chance of drafting the guy.

    Amen, brother.

“Sexual assault” seems so quaint when you know what he’s really accused of … drugging and raping another student while one of his entourage recorded the episode. The only reason that was dropped was local police didn’t pursue the case.

    Scum.

From what Joe posted, and what I heard elsewhere, there seems to be environmental issues and legal hoops to go through to make the Carson site viable.

Seems to me that San Diego and Oakland are using this strategy to force talks from their local leaders about a new stadium lease. So, just seems to me that the Chargers’ and Raiders’ owners are looking for a way to stay and make more money, while SK is looking for a way to leave and make more money.

I go back to my original feeling that the Rams are headed out of STL to L.A.

I saw some of the Combine, and it’s just obvious that Carden has a weak arm for the NFL.

    Noted.

Mayock projects Carden as an NFL backup because of his lack of arm strength.

Too bad this is the year the Rams really need to draft a QB. Winston’s probably the only one worth a 1st rounder, imo, and he’s such a sleaze. Mariotta is OK, but if the Rams take him at No. 10, it’s a reach caused by a bad draft group. I saw some of the Combine, and it’s just obvious that Carden has a weak arm for the NFL. Backup material. My hope is Petty in the mid-rounds, but they’d likely have to take him in the 2nd to be sure they get him, if they even want him. And, he wouldn’t be ready to start as a rookie.

    Interesting development.

I think the NFL sees that St. Louis is most willing to build a new stadium among the three teams without a long-term lease. I also think that Spanos has been a busy boy within NFL owner circles. SK is the maverick, forcing movement with his independent actions. Looks like Spanos has countered with his personal relationships with other owners.

Yeah, it’s going to have to include a pro QB who could start now but isn’t as talented as Bradford and a 1st-rounder, or why would the Rams take the deal? And, really, why take the deal, anyway, because we don’t need another prospect and a worse QB1, we need Bradford AND a QB2 who could start.

    It would be funny if
StLouis built a new stadium and the Rams stayed,
Oakland built a new stadium and stayed in Oakland,
San Diego built a new stadium and stayed in SD…
    …and LA…well…ya know. O dear.

I truly think that St. Louis has the best chance of getting local support for a new stadium. In a sane world, the Rams stay in St. Louis if there’s a viable stadium proposal. But, in the world we live in, I could see the L.A. area getting three teams … even if the NFL doesn’t approve both stadiums. Does anyone think that SK is going to adhere to NFL guidelines at this point?

Yeah, you can’t get rid of the horns.

Some of those helmet designs are pretty cool, though. I think the horns could be tweaked a little to be more modern. Or, even classic.

The Giants’ helmet is most hideous. The white for the Vikings is not good.

Why is their an Oiler’s helmet?

    I like Tampa’s and Buffalo’s quite a bit.

He’s probably been given permission to test the waters as to what other teams would be willing to pay him if they acquired him in a trade. That would mean that teams would have to be willing to trade for him, but also realize that they wouldn’t necessarily meet the Rams’ asking price. It’s kind of a way of testing what Bradford’s value might be on the open market if he were actually on the open market. Who knows? Maybe someone makes the Rams an offer they can’t refuse? I would think that offer would have to include a veteran QB who could start now plus draft choices. In this year’s draft, those choices don’t seem as valuable as normal, especially at QB.

And, he had a “lengthy conversation” in which Sam had some “firm opinions.” My guess is that Bradford gave Cignetti glowing remarks and also wanted to have another crack at a similar offense. Fisher would be stupid not to take Sam’s thoughts into consideration.

But, some fans just want to see Sam Bradford go away. And, I’m sure this type of relationship between Fisher and Bradford doesn’t fit well with those fans’ vision.

Yeah, I’d prefer BPA in this draft. Last year, Robby was more need and Donald more BPA. I think Robby will be OK, but could have been a reach. Donald, you pretty much had to take him there. This year, I want another player who could be special, like Donald, regardless of position.

About this trading down thing. That’s something you do in a deep draft. This is not one of them.

Correct me if I’m wrong. You always know more about drafts than I do. But. I thought this draft was still very deep at a lot of key positions from the mid-1st through the 3rd rounds, but it wasn’t as stellar at the top–what isn’t deep, in other words, is the top players (unlike last year which was a great draft at the top.)

If it’s true that it has decent depth in the next tier AFTER the frontline, elite players then isn’t trading down okay?

I know I posted an article in this thread that says otherwise, but I also keep reading things like this:

    http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2014/12/12/7381411/2015-nfl-draft-top-100-jameis-winston-marcus-mariota

The overall depth is what may keep this class afloat. Of the top 50, half are offensive players and the other half are on defense. This class may lack in quarterbacks, but on offense it makes up for it in running backs, wide receivers and tackles. It’s also heavy in pass rushers. This list features 20 players who are college defensive ends.

On the part I bolded, I almost literally looked behind me to see if you were posting to someone else. I don’t know much more about this draft than what’s been posted on this forum. I was commenting specifically on this being a weak draft, so as a strategy, accumulating draft picks by moving down doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense to me. If the draft is light at the top, and has depth in the middle, sure, that might be the way to go, but I didn’t think from what I’ve read that was necessarily the case, either. I, personally, would target the individuals you want the most, and if they’re there, take them. Or, even trade up for one, if he has a chance at being special.

About this trading down thing. That’s something you do in a deep draft. This is not one of them. Why do the Rams need more picks in a weak draft? And, if this is the case, every team knows this, so I don’t know if the Rams could move up a lot, either. I’d say if there’s a trade, it’s likely to move up a few spots to get someone the Rams really like. I think OT makes sense. I doubt the Rams want Jameis Winston. The other possibility is to take Mariotta if he’s available at 10. I just hope it isn’t Winston. Man, that guy seems like a creep, and would be hard to accept at the helm of the Rams.

One other vital piece of inside information

Yeah, it never fails. I can’t remember the last big, expensive signing (outside of the likes of Peyton Manning) that really made a huge difference for a team.

The Rams’ big FA signings have been fairly conservative, and yet they haven’t paid off, either. There’s always a reason a team lets a player get to free agency.

Yeah, he was hot that year. He had great WRs with the Bears, which had to help quite a bit. I thought he played well against the Rams even though he got pummeled by our D-line.

This NFL.com report doesn’t list the Rams among possible landing spots.

He might negotiate if he thought that he couldn’t gain back the money in free agency that he’d lose if getting cut. But, would the Rams really cut him? I think he knows better. Not as things go right now, anyway. The Rams have no Plan B. And, I just don’t see a Plan B emerging at this point, unless the Rams dangle a premium pick for Foles.

Yeah. Going back many moons, if the Dodgers can leave Brooklyn for L.A., nothing’s sacred. Certainly not a STL franchise that once came from L.A. And, I have to admit, that Inglewood stadium looks pretty sweet, and costs nothing for the NFL.

One thing that I’d like to see happen: The NFL kick in a little extra $$$ than normal for the STL stadium, just as payback for allowing SK to leave even though he has no justification under current NFL relocation guidelines (as I understand them).

I tell you, though, I’d hate to have the Jags here. I mean, that’s a scenario where I might actually have to avoid following the home team. I hate the jerseys, and the team sucks. There’s nothing there for me. I guess STL could change the name and logo. But, Jacksonville still has a stadium, anyway, so that could take years.

Taking away my personal feelings about a Rams move, and just considering what NFL football means to STL as a sports town, and I’d have to say that it’s a huge blow if/when the Rams move. We don’t have NBA basketball or a legitimate college basketball team in STL. We have hockey and, of course, we have baseball. That’s about it when it comes to big-time sports. And, the NBA just does not care about this town, or maybe it’s vice-versa. And, in another way, if there’s no NFL, it kind of mirrors a long and continuing trend of major corporations moving their corporate offices out of STL. The STL area is a region in decline. I think the NFL is important for the urban core of STL, even if it doesn’t create a great amount of money for the economy. Let’s just say that a loss of an NFL franchise will only erode the appeal of this region for commerce.

Or, not. Who knows? Maybe we do something else to develop the area where the stadium would go. I don’t see it, but I guess it’s possible. There’s just not a lot of foresight from our corporations here. In fact, it’s telling that there’s little corporate support to try to block a Rams’ move from STL. We’ve got a former official of Anheuser-Busch, which is now a Belgian company, and an attorney working behind the scenes with politicians and the NFL. The only guy who has the money and prestige in STL to stop the Rams is probably the guy trying to move the Rams. Who is going to stand up against SK in STL? A two-man committee? I don’t think so.

    Dak
    Participant

You know, the interesting thing here is the fact that St. Louis appears to be presenting a much stronger stadium proposal than Oakland or San Diego.

Yeah. I can’t get too upset with the local effort right now. There’s movement on the stadium construction front. It looks doable in STL.

I wonder, if at the end of this, we don’t have the St. Louis Chargers or Raiders. I really think it could be either team that could decide they want a sure-thing new stadium for a few hundred million dollars, rather than continue to dick around in those cities.

I guess the Rams could stay here, and the Chargers or Raiders could move to Kroenke’s stadium. I just don’t see that happening, though. I am inclined to believe that SK wants to move HIS team to HIS stadium, and help build that entire Inglewood development. And, I just don’t see an owner swap, where SK owns the L.A. Chargers or Raiders. I guess it’s possible, since SK would control the lease on the stadium. It’s conceivable that it would be cheaper to build a new stadium than lease SK’s new stadium. And, the NFL likely would not want an owner of one NFL team leasing to another NFL team. Although, at the same time I write that, I remember that they’re sure ignoring the cross-ownership rule in place right now in order for SK to continue to own the Rams, so maybe those little details aren’t that important to NFL ownership.

It’s an interesting situation, for sure. And, it seems to evolve weekly.

Well, if you go by Super Bowls, you can also spin it that no other QB has thrown more than 300 yards in a Super Bowl three times. Plus, Kurt’s 414 yards in Super Bowl 34 is still a record. Peyton Manning is also 1-2 in the Super Bowl.

I think it’s hard to get a grip on how good he’ll be because of the injuries. If he can stay healthy for an entire season, that will be interesting. I don’t think he was worth the trade up at this point, but I can see that he has potential to do much more than he’s done so far.
