San Diego was effective in running at Donald as well. Draw plays seem to be an effective tool to deal with him.

Oh well. His first real playing time in over a month, coming right after the injury to Gaines. Rookie CBs and rookie QBs make the most costly types of errors.
canadaramParticipantIn a ten point game, the Giants scored 10 points off of turnovers, and it could’ve been more if they didn’t take a knee after the last shotgun snap from Wells. Perhaps someone can point to evidence that suggests otherwise, but Benny is usually quite reliable with his ball control and has been quite solid as a KR this season. To me in Benny’s case it’s just one of those rare things that happens. Austin just screwed up letting the ball bounce off of his hands and into the hands of Wynn. Both of those plays were big in the outcome of the game. Me? I don’t see that as a coaching thing. Others porbably do, I guess.
The penalties and chippy stuff are mostly young players acting up. The coaches have got to do a better job reigning them in. Personally, I think that stuff dissipates as guys like McDonald and Ogletree get older.
Anyway, a disappointing loss for sure. The coverage breakdowns are mind numbing. There’s no way McDonald should’ve been left alone on Beckham on his first TD. I don’t know who screwed up on the second Beckham TD, Joyner or Johnson, but it looked like Joyner to me. A young secondary always has me holding my breath. Mistakes there are so costly, and young guys are good for a couple a game.

However, I expect JPP to be a problem for both Robinson and Barksdale, depending where the Giants line him up. Similarly, Hankins is good enough to cause some problems for the Rams shaky Wells/Joseph combo.
The Giants offense has actually looked pretty good lately, even if it has mostly been Eli-to-Beckham. I hope the Rams do a better job against the run his week than they did vs Arizona, cuz if the Giants get the run game going Beckham will produce some big plays as a result of Rams having to respect the run.
Anyway, I’m not confident that the Rams win this game, but I never am confident about the Rams winning.

Had it come to fruition I know that I’d be feasting on Whatchamacallit chocolate bars and staying home to watch football on the the last Thursday of every November. Two things that make me jealous of every citizen of the U.S.
canadaramParticipantFoles is China doll too, isn’t he hurt?
All QBs get hurt, look at Arizona, down to #3, their biggest success was based on Palmer and Warner who also had a histories of injury.
Bottom line, most QB’s get hurt …… while very very few rookies succeed.
Keep Bradford…. he is your best choice at this point.
For every Andrew Luck picked, there’s 10 Joey Harringtons or Gio Carmazzis.
QBs picks since 2000.
SEL # PLAYER POSITION SCHOOL TEAM
That is a depressing list. Some occasional gems, but overall pretty sad.
canadaramParticipant(Bumrap —
quoting Arians – no link )“Everybody wanted to talk all that stuff about how great their defense is. I think they saw a good defense tonight, it was in red and white,” Arians said before talking about his 143 rushing yards. “We blocked them. I think they had been reading their press clippings way too much.”
Arizona’s D is good, no doubt. They’ve proven that for a few seasons now. Solving the mystery of the Wells, Joseph and Hill trinity isn’t exactly a revelation, however.
canadaramParticipantOn some runs I thought Arizona did a good job using Donald’s aggressive play against him. Good patience and then running where AD used to be.
No player frustrates me more than Jenkins right now.
I agree with zn, Arizona is a bad match up for this team.
canadaramParticipantI think the Rams defense can expect to see a steady diet of screen passes and intermediate passes over the middle. I’m not confident that the defense has figured out how to stop that stuff consistently vs strong skilled players. That said Drew Stanton hasn’t dominated on the road, so who knows?
canadaramParticipantWith a young secondary that’s proven to be susceptible to the double move that’s a huge out for the Rams, obviously. I still don’t trust this team on the road. They need all the help they can get.
canadaramParticipantAlso great to keep a guy who plays such a pivotal role in controlling field position when you can’t play the Raiders every week.
canadaramParticipantGood.
He’s more than just a good punter obviously. He’s Legatron’s holder, he’s a specialist at trickeration, and he’s an emergency QB. Plus he’s as likable a Ram that I’ve seen in a loooonnnng time.

If he breaks one or two, fine. But he doesn’t have to, as long as the defense is just worried about it.
They stop him because they focus on doing it. That gives the Rams offense all sorts of subtle advantages whenever they line him up.
But see this is what I don’t believe. I see no evidence that defenses are making adjustments to stop Tavon that lead to other opportunities. I just don’t think that’s happening.
He seems to me to be pretty easy to stop.
I forget which games? But in 2 recent games the analysts showed how a TD was set up by the defense paying attention to Tavon and therefore being susceptible to something else. So that’s twice now in the 2nd half of the season where the tv announcers have made a point of that, with replays and talk and Madden-markers drawing lines on the picture to show how it happened etc.
Someone else might even remember the games and the plays.
The Britt TD vs Denver is one of them I believe.
canadaramParticipantI also watched Wells in those gifs. I hope that Rams can upgrade the centre position this offseason. Didn’t Person spend some time at at centre during training camp this season?
canadaramParticipantThose are excellent.
Regarding Johnson, perhaps it is just me, but he looks like he has bulked up quite a bit.
canadaramParticipantBeing a Rams fan all these years has taught me how to be the second option. However, over the last couple of seasons there has also been a solid sprinkling of number four every now and then.
canadaramParticipantI had neither heard, nor read about the possibility of Kroenke buying the Broncos and selling the Rams. That’d be an interesting development.

canadaramParticipantFans are funny. BTW, I’ve rarely, if ever, have seen similarly themed posts on this board. It’s why I really appreciate the general tone here.
I listened to the game while travelling in my vehicle today, and I could only get the Broncos broadcast. FWIW, the broadcast team was very impressed with TJ McDonald performance.
canadaramParticipantNo. I didn’t want a such a diminutive WR picked in the 1st round in 2103, and nothing has happened to change my mind about that. Having said that, I was hoping for Patterson and he hasn’t lit the world on fire either.
canadaramParticipantYes, it is time. I think Fisher has given Davis enough rope that he won’t look like he lied to Davis about not having to look over his shoulder when he first made him the starter. I can only assume that there are some veterans who still want to win some games in this lost season, and some might see Davis as a potential obstacle to winning at this point. I wonder if there will be some locker roomgrumbling soon?
I don’t know what Hill has left in the tank, but I think Davis has done enough, or too little, or whatever, to earn a clipboard and cap.
November 10, 2014 at 7:36 am in reply to: combined "today's game" & "arizona game lamentations" threads #11543canadaramParticipantThis Rams team rmeinds me a little of the 2012 Cardinals. Enough emerging talent to compete, but the hole at QB is too massive to overcome. The Cardinals rebounded with the hiring of Arians and the acquisition of Carson Palmer. I don’t think the Rams make a change at HC , nor do I want them to. However, they need to find their Carson Palmer. Maybe Bradford ends up being that guy, but it would seem foolish for the Rams to put all of their eggs in that basket. Anyway, despite the fact that this team seems headed toward a Linehanesque type record, I do not feel nearly as hopeless about this team as I did in 2007-08.
canadaramParticipantI’m not trying to be a smart ass, but I’m really not sure what constitutes a personal foul or a fineable offense, in the NFL. Just when I think it looks obvious one way or the other, it turns out it could not have been less obvious.
canadaramParticipantMaybe he’ll rebound, I don’t know, but I doubt he shines against Arizona’s defense. I think he’s going to have a lot of pressure coming right up the middle. If it’s a Seattle type game plan with a lot of “long handoffs,” maybe he has a solid outing.
On another note, I wonder if we’ll ever see Tavon Austin run a wheel route from the backfield. I keep thinking that one must be coming, but it never happens. I’m not criticizing Schottenheimer, just wondering.
canadaramParticipantYa think JJ wants another
crack at Mr Lloyd?Rams are Salty,

v
Harbaugh:
(On if Rams injuries impact their preparation or if they will make adjustments based on injuries)
“No we don’t. They’re a salty opponent, they always have been. Strive to play good football because that’s what it’s going to take. It’s going to take us being at our best and that’s really where our expectations are for today: to have a great practice and have great meetings.”(On if anything from the last 49ers-Rams matchup sticks out in his mind)
“Not one thing in particular, no.”Salt is bad for the blood pressure they say. Maybe the Rams plan to slowly overload he Niners with salt and after years of sodium abuse the Niners will finally succumb to cardiovascular issues leaving the Rams victorious.
canadaramParticipantI predict 5-10 minutes of hoping that the inevitable doesn’t happen, followed by about 5 minutes of anger, to be quickly followed by acceptance and a smattering of indifference.
If he plays, I expect a better game from Jenkins compared to his last game vs the Niners. I also expect a lot of running plays and bootlegs to Ogletree’s side if the field.

canadaramParticipantI don’t know about replaced at this point, but I think he needs some real competition in camp next year.
canadaramParticipantIf saffold can return I wonder if they keep him at guard and begin the Robinson at LT era now. Or will they keep GR inside for the remainder of his rookie year. I’m all for getting Robinson going at LT now. Although, Austin Davis and the rest of the rams QBs might feel differently.
canadaramParticipantIt sounds like the only way this might change is if the issue is addressed with Mr. Dick, or his principal. If you do go to admin make sure that you are as specific about the incidents as you were here, and anticipate what Mr. Dick’s possible responses will be as well. I get the impression that Mr. Dick will just keep ramping it up if your son does anything that might show him up, or offend him. Also, Mr. Dick seems like the sensitive type who offends easily.
How would your son feel about you going to admin, or emailing Mr. Dick?
