    From off the net:

‘Eastwatch’ promises to be yet another incredibly important episode this season, perhaps even more so than last week.

    It was okay.

I keep wondering about the Dothraki who act as Daenyris’s body guard. Once the wild rulers of the open plains, some of them now follow her around doing servant duties.

It’s kind of like having a 12th century mongol warrior as your butler.

I liked it. But it was another one of those “set up” episodes. Next week’s should be the real “winter is here” deal. Though, when I watched Jon and company go out into the cold, from the Wall, I’m thinking, you guys are completely out of your minds . . . which is probably what the writers were shooting for. Roughly equivalent to the girl who goes down into the dark basement, alone, even though everyone knows the monster’s there.

I’ve written a coupla thrillers meself, and it’s not easy to push things along if you can’t do at least a little of that.

    ;>)

Anyway . . . another thing that interested me. Why would some think it was more “barbaric” to be burned alive by a dragon than cut to shreds by a sword — in battle or later, as a prisoner? I haven’t experienced either death yet, but I’m guessing being sliced up by a sword isn’t much fun. Is dragon-fire really that much more “beyond the pale”? Or, as Nabokov might ask, pale fire?

Also, I would have thought Arya would be less easy to fool. She’s very stealthy. Yeah, so is Littlefinger, of course. But she has the advantage, I would think, of being woefully underestimated. Instead, it appears she did that to him. So, turning the sisters against each other so Littlefinger can take Winterfell from both of them and Jon?

The other potential bombshell is maybe, just maybe, Jon isn’t a Snow after all. His parents may have been secretly married, so that means he’s the true heir.

Jon is definitely a Targaryen. That’s why the dragon settled down after sniffing him. He’s Daenerys’s nephew.

Yes, but we knew that before tonight. The new info, coming from Sam, is that Jon’s parents may have been secretly married, so he’s not a bastard Targaryan. My bad for not being clear, but when I said he may not be a “Snow,” I meant bastard. That’s the designation for any northern bastard, if memory serves. “Sand” for Dorne. Can’t remember what it is for other regions.

In short, we got brand new info tonight that may mean he actually has rights to the throne before Daenarys. That could be a problem down the road.

Yeah yer right. This was the first indication that he is a legal born Targaryen. If that;s true btw, and it absolutely no doubt is, then that puts Robert Baratheon’s war against the Targaryens in a different light. That war was based on Robert’s misplaced sense that Rhaegar had kidnapped Lyanna and held her against her will.

Which is why it’s important to announce a wedding in the papers. Every single battle fought since Robert declared war, from his time to the present, was just based on a misunderstanding.

And there’s just no excuse for that. I mean, how many apps are there for that sort of thing? Come on!! And, of course, if they don’t want to use the Net and would rather go old-school, there are plenty of wedding planners who do the registry stuff, the reception, multi-cultural ceremonies even a Dothraki could love. You don’t think King’s Landing has its share those?

And if they had chosen this guy as their priest? No more wars. There would be peace in the valley, for sure.

BTW another detail. Gendry tells Davos that he prefers the warhammer as a weapon. That’s an allusion. When Robert Baratheon, obviously Gendry’s father, killed Rhaegar Targaryen in the rebellion that made him king, he did it with a warhammer. The warhammer is a Baratheon “thing.”

True story: I watched this last night on a cell phone surrounded by my wife and son. All three of us are fans of the show but we were at a Guns N’ Roses concert last night and stayed at a hotel that didn’t have HBO. So after the concert she streamed it on her phone and we jammed in around it to watch. Now THAT’S being obsessed with a show. We re-watched the bigger version at home today on our television.

Not the most memorable show but Sam and Gilly were funny.

    Can’t wait til next week.

The chemistry of the actors on this show is amazing. It is so well cast.

By the way–over the weekend I ran into THREE Rams fans. I always tell my wife we’re out there and this weekend I ran into them. On Saturday I ran into an old friend I used to work with and he’s a big Rams fan. On Sunday morning it was a clerk at WAWA who saw I was wearing a Rams shirt and he excitedly proclaimed to be one of me. We talked about the game.

Sunday night at the concert another guy wearing a Rams shirt started screaming “Yeah, Rams!!!” at me.

See–we really are out there. Just gotta know where to look.

Same mantra — things move to fast, not enough development.

And…i thought it was lame that Jamie and his buddy were able to get out of the river and escape capture. That place was crawling with Dothraki’s, and the just pop up out of the river and no-one is around?

I also thought it was lame that Tyrian would be able to waltz into Lannister-land and meet with Jamie.

And what happened with the big spear that was stuck in the Dragon?
Shouldnt there have been a scene where he got some medical treatment or somethin? He’s just all better now?

I thought it would have made for a better scene if Tyrian had NOT tried to save the Tarleys from getting Burnt. Remember when Tyrian was just fine with killing a couple of the ‘masters’ after they came in warships and attacked dragon-lady? Well why would he get all sentimental about the Tarley-example?

I thought it was a bit lame that Snow and company think they can kidnap a whitewalker and one white-walker is going to convince Cersei that there is an army of the dead coming. More likely she would just believe they had created a zombie to fool her.

    I could go on 🙂

Cant wait for the next show 🙂

Not here. I travel incognito among hordes of Patriots fans. They’re everywhere. It’s like the nature documentaries where you see magnified shots of insect hordes, swarming. There are some Giants fans, admittedly. So it’s a blue sea of … blue. In the world of the blind, the one-eyed man has to keep it to himself.

Well, as you know, the premise of the show involves a great deal of willing suspension of disbelief. So it’s difficult to escape from the “lame” stuff. Though I would have thought it harder to believe Jaime didn’t drown due to his armor, as opposed to being able to avoid Dothrakis. The final scene from the previous show kinda indicated he was sinking fast. Bron must be a lot stronger than we thought, and a world class swimmer/diver/lifesavior.

Which reminds me of my first lesson for a Red Cross life-savings badge at age 15. I had to save this rather large woman who was hiding in the James River. Couldn’t see a thing — the water is murky — and she pounced from behind and nearly drowned me. That’s one of the things they teach ya. When you go to save someone in the throes of drowning, they’re quite possibly going to try to drown you out of total and complete panic.

Maybe Jaime and Bron had practiced rescue stuff along with their swordplay.

As for finding a way to lure one white walker down south . . . Yeah, that’s pretty crazy. Cersei won’t believe it anyway.

And I hope the writers aren’t going to try to follow the “Last Hero” prophecy to the bitter end, cuz, while it has a lot of ambiguity about it, it may well mean the end of everyone in that troop beyond the wall but one.

Well, I could spin my way out of that foe-paw by saying they’re going after one of the Others, not one of their foot soldiers. You know, a head honcho instead of a headless non-honcho . . . oh, heck with it!!

Okay, then. Do you know why some wights are still kinda fleshy and some are just skeletons? And I don’t want to hear any of the usual anti-vegan lectures, or pro-paleo-diet talk. This is a much bigger issue that that, and skeleton-shaming is so 2011!

They are creatures entirely of magic that simply arise from a body where a person or animal once had been. They can be decayed but should have enough tissue to at least hold them together and allow mobility, even if they are all leathery and rotted.

Any previously living thing can be reanimated as a wight, which is what the walkers ride as horses–dead horses.

Yeah, I sorta agree. But I’ve resigned myself to the idea that things are going to feel rushed from here on out. There’s just so much left to do and so few episodes to do it. I’ve made peace with it. I suggest you do too.

I also thought it was impossible that Jamie and his buddy could emerge from the water but somehow evade capture. Where did everybody go? They came out onto an empty beach where just moments before there were all sorts of people running around and an 80 foot dragon. They couldn’t have been under the water so long that everyone moved off. Then I noticed the smoke way in the distance – as if the battle took place on the other side of the lake. Which means they must have swam the length of the lake undetected. So, we’re left with too highly improbable choices – either Jamie and his buddy were able to hold their breath under water long enough for the dragon and the entire Dothraki army to move off, or they were able to swim across the lake undetected by several thousand Dothraki eyes and a dragon.

The dragon being ok didn’t bother me. The wound was superficial.

Oh is that you diagnosis, Mr Dragon Doctor?

AND — why wouldnt the spears have poison on the tips? Surely Ceirci would have thought of that.

And another thing — i think they are ruining the Tyrian character. I thought the writing for his big meeting with Jamie was really lame. Dinklage is a great actor and you could SEE him ‘acting’ during that scene, when he had to raise the issue of him being hated by his father because he was a dwarf — That scene seemed stilted to me, and Dinklage’s emotion seemed lame to me. I think Tyrian used to be a lot more interesting than he is now. I think the writers are failing in some significant ways.

Well, the wound being superficial is borne out by Jamie’s telling Cerci that the ‘secret’ weapon was ineffective against the dragon.

How do you know the spear tips aren’t poisoned? Maybe they got the dose wrong. They probably don’t know much about dragon physiology.

I agree. That scene where the Imp meets with Jamie should have had more impact. However, I think they did a nice job with the scene between Sansa and Arya…”You’re thinking it right now.”

I wouldn;t blame Tyrian too much. He comes from a spread offense warrior mentality background. That means his meetings with siblings where they talk about him murdering their father will, as a rule, be rushed and ineffectual. Plus, there’s the holdout.

BTW. How did Tyrian get ahold of Bronn. And then convince him to bring Jaimie to a meeting.

Peter Dinklage urges ‘Game of Thrones’ fans to stop buying direwolf-lookalike Huskies

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/entertainthis/2017/08/16/peter-dinklage-says-game-thrones-fans-should-stop-buying-huskies/572011001/

Peter Dinklage is pleading with Game of Thrones fans to not be hasty with their pet purchases.

In tandem with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), the actor hopes to discourage Thrones fans from getting Huskies solely for their similarity to direwolves, giant animals that are a part of the hit HBO fantasy series.

In a statement from PETA, the organization says the sled dogs are in demand because of the show’s popularity. But often, it says, once owners understand the commitment the dogs require, they are abandoned. ABC7 News and KRON4 found evidence of this trend in the Bay Area.

“Please, to all of Game of Thrones’ many wonderful fans, we understand that due to the direwolves’ huge popularity, many folks are going out and buying Huskies,” Dinklage, who plays Tyrion Lannister, says in the statement from PETA. “Not only does this hurt all the deserving homeless dogs waiting for a chance at a good home in shelters, but shelters are also reporting that many of these huskies are being abandoned — as often happens when dogs are bought on impulse, without understanding their needs.”

Dinklage, a vegetarian, stressed the seriousness of pet selection. “Please, please, if you’re going to bring a dog into your family, make sure that you’re prepared for such a tremendous responsibility and remember to always, ALWAYS, adopt from a shelter,” he said.

We were talking at work and the possibility that the spear than Braan shot the dragon with was poisoned came up. It may be slow acting. One of my coworkers is big into the GOT universe and knows a lot about the characters from the book and the series. He says Qyburn knows a lot about poisons…

I did a little research on huskies, cuz the narrator of my last completed novel discovers one in the snow and takes her in. Reading stuff from long-time husky owners and vets, it would seem they’re especially difficult — but with high rewards, too. Beautiful, smart and loving, but they need more than the usual amount of exercise, close attention to diet, and they tend to be escape artists. One could say, very “high maintenance.” Not at all like a Golden Retriever or other laid back breeds.

Though it’s probably safe to say, Americans don’t treat their pets well in the aggregate. They don’t take them out for exercise enough. They leave them alone far too much. And they don’t watch their diets . . . . But huskies are especially difficult along those lines. The exercise part is often more than most people can handle.

Admirable that Drinklage made that plea.

Well, having lived with two Alaskan Malamutes, and having met many-a-husky in my time, i can say that most of the Northern Breeds are ‘not for everyone’. Definitely not like Golden Retrievers or Labs.

I would advise people not to get pure-bred dragons either. Go to a shelter.

Yeah, Kaleesee makes dragon raising seem much easier than it actually is I bet. Beagles can be difficult too.
