If that’s the case…why the delay? It seemed like a no brainer they were waiting for a guy from one of the teams still playing.

This just seems a little strange to me.

i don’t know. Has any other team hired all its coaches? And, therefore, is this a delay? Or just the normal way things play out?

Lots of dots to connect with Trestman/McVay.

These guys all have overlapping or connected histories.

Trestman was qb coach then OC under Gruden in Oakland from 2002. He then stayed on as the coordinator under Callahan. Of course, McVay knew Callahan in Washington. Sean wanted Callahan for the Rams but Washington blocked it.

Trestman was also previously the OC under Seifert in SF from 95-96. He has been a head coach (Chicago, 2013-14). He was the OC in Baltimore from 2015-6. Ironically, he was fired during the 2016 season after a loss to Washington, McVay’s team.

Kromer, whose name has also come up, was the OL coach under Gruden in Oakland, then under Callahan. He then went to be the OL coach in Tampa under Gruden. He was the OC under Trestman in Chicago.

The Rams kept Skip Peete as RB coach. He was with Gruden, Kromer, Callahan, and Trestman in Oakland. He was also with Trestman and Kromer in Chicago.

Maybe it’s getting down to Trestman OC (if he’s interested) and Kromer for OL coach.

    Basically it’s a Gruden reunion.

I read, somewhere, that the Rams expected to finish their coaching hires by the end of this week.

I don’t think I’m gettin antsy…I just kind of figured if they were serious about Trestman we would have heard something by now. Who knows? maybe they have been talking and it just hasn’t leaked out.

Trestman has had some good offenses. Don’t know what happened in Baltimore though

i read over at the herd someone mention chris morgan at atlanta. if so, i’d be very intrigued. has a history with mcvay coaching at washington as assistant offensive line coach from 2011-2013. assistant offensive line coach with the seahawks in 2014 and then offensive line coach with the falcons from 2015-2016. spent a lot of time with shanahan and the zone blocking system. involved in some potent rushing attacks with washington, seattle, and atlanta. combined with kromer, that’d be enough to make me feel comfortable that mcvay is directing serious resources toward building a strong running game.

he coached linebackers on that vaunted tampa bay defense which finished number one overall in 2002 and 2005. one of those linebackers was hall of famer derrick brooks who won defensive player of the year in 2002.

also coached linebackers in san diego where the defense finished 9th in total defense 2 of the 4 years he was there.

    http://www.redskins.com/team/coaches/Joe-Barry/e0e34c5a-bd31-4b85-b3f7-e9ff1956171b

Now in his 15th NFL season, including four as a defensive coordinator, Barry has been a member of a defensive staff that has finished in the Top 10 in total defense five times, including No. 1 overall units in 2002 and 2005. Under Barry, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Hall of Fame linebacker Derrick Brooks was named the 2002 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

Aaron Kromer likely joining Rams as offensive line coach

    Alden Gonzalez

    http://www.espn.com/blog/los-angeles-rams/post/_/id/32846/aaron-kromer-likely-joining-rams-as-offensive-line-coach

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Rams are expected to bring Aaron Kromer in as their new offensive line coach, a source confirmed to ESPN on Tuesday. The development, which is not yet official, was first reported by USA Today.

Kromer would replace Paul Boudreau, who has been an NFL offensive line coach for 30 consecutive years and spent the last five seasons with the Rams. The Rams used seven draft picks on offensive linemen from 2014 to ’15, but have been unable get it right up front. Greg Robinson, the No. 2 overall pick in 2014, has struggled mightily at left tackle, while right tackle Rob Havenstein, a second-round pick in 2015, struggled in his second NFL season.

Aaron Kromer, who spent the last two seasons with the Buffalo Bills, has been an offensive line coach for 11 seasons, along with two years as the Bears’ offensive coordinator. Fred Kfoury III/Icon Sportswire
Kromer has spent 11 years as an offensive line coach for four NFL teams, including the Oakland Raiders (2002 to ’04), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2006 to ’07), New Orleans Saints (2009 to ’12) and Buffalo Bills (2015 to ’16). Kromer also was offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears from 2013 to ’14 and served as the Saints’ interim coach for the first six games of 2012, when the Saints were penalized in the infamous bounty scandal.

Kromer, 49, began his stint with the Bills by serving his own six-game suspension for allegedly getting into a physical altercation with a minor. Kromer’s son, Zachery, was accused of placing his hands on another boy during the incident, but both charges were dropped after an amicable resolution.

In Kromer’s two years as offensive line coach, the Bills led the NFL with 5.06 rushing yards per carry. As offensive coordinator in Chicago, the Bears had the second-highest scoring offense in the NFL in 2013 before falling to 23rd in points by 2014. And during his four-year stint as offensive line coach with the Saints, Kromer coached five players who went to a combined 10 Pro Bowls.

Behind the Rams’ offensive line in 2016, Todd Gurley averaged only 3.18 rushing yards per carry, the second-worst rate in the NFL, and Jared Goff was sacked 25 times over his last six games. New head coach Sean McVay will call the Rams’ offensive plays this season and has agreed to hire former Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Greg Olson as his quarterbacks coach. Skip Peete will return as running backs coach, but wide receivers coach Mike Groh recently accepted a job with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Kromer coached under Jon Gruden, one of McVay’s key mentors, in Oakland and Tampa Bay. The Rams reportedly were considering Kromer for their head coaching position before they settled on Jeff Fisher in 2012.

Kromer currently is with the Rams’ contingent in Mobile, Alabama, for the Senior Bowl, according to USA Today.

WR Coach Eric Yarber Will Leave UCLA for Rams

    http://www.scout.com/college/ucla/story/1752141-wr-coach-eric-yarber-will-leave-ucla-for-rams

Feb. 2 — Bruin Report Online has learned UCLA wide receiver coach Eric Yarber will leave the school to be the new wide receiver coach for the Los Angeles Rams…

UCLA wide receiver coach Eric Yarber will leave the program to take the the wide receiver coaching position with the Los Angeles Rams, according to sources.
Yarber, 53, has been with UCLA since Jim Mora was hired as head coach in 2012.
He has experience in the NFL, previously coaching receivers with the San Francisco 49ers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He played two seasons in the NFL himself, for the Washington Redskins, after being a standout receiver at Idaho.

Yarber generally was considered a good receivers coach while at UCLA, thought of as solid technician, and it was generally believed he developed his talent well, preparing a number of UCLA receivers for the NFL, such as Jordan Payton, Thomas Duarte and others.
He has received criticism, however, for his recruiting results.
Then last season his receivers were thought to have under-performed as a group when they had a tendency to drop balls.
Wide receiver recruiting for the 2017 class also didn’t end well, with UCLA not signing one receiver recruit, ultimately getting beaten out by Florida Atlantic for its top target, JC receiver DeAndre McNeal.
There was some sentiment around the UCLA program that Yarber might be let go after last season, but he was retained up until his move to the Rams.
