A losing record. In his 5 years with the Rams he could not even reach 8-8. Fisher is on the verge of being the losingest Head Coach in NFL history. Why does he deserve a new deal?
October 10, 2016 at 10:45 pm #54961bnwBlockedHe doesn’t but $tanK owns a dysfunctional organization.
The upside to being a Rams fan is heartbreak.
Sprinkles are for winners.
October 11, 2016 at 1:09 am #54975Eternal RamnationParticipantI don’t disagree on everything but you do have to figure in all the injuries. Looking at Bradford play up here on the Vikes I think we would have won a lot more if he stayed healthy. At this point extending him till the new stadium is done, well I can see that , just the way billionaires think. I’ve mention this before but the window on this defense is closing , their style of play and our now very slim draft pickin’s we need to take this in a Offensive direction. That’s the thing about Fisher that drives me nuts , he seems to think he has all the
time in the world and Stanky is the enabler .October 11, 2016 at 7:33 am #54977wvParticipantWell, i dunno what he deserves yet. But I’d like to see how the season plays out.
One factor is Goff’s education, and progress (or lack of it).
I’m not sure i want Goff to spend all this year learning one system,
and then having to learn a new system next year, with a new coach.w

Be reasonable. Rams won without Trent Green because they had a young veteran back-up.
That is not the same as wiping out 3/4ths of an entire DL…a DL unit that is key to the Rams success.
Having a decent back-up qb v. 3 injured starting defensive linemen?
Think. Wrecking an entire key unit is bad for a football team. Saying that is not “making excuses.” It’s acknowledging reality.
In fact you want evidence of that? In 2000 the Rams superbowl DL WAS wiped out. The offense was fine, but, could they sustain the same kind of season?

That is why the team has coaches, they need to be coached up. Put in the right spots. New England has this thing called next man up, we have, oops, we are in trouble. As I have said, Fisher does not deserve an extension. Any other coach with his record, no matter the situation, would have been fired long ago. No owner wants to hear, injuries. If it were any other owner, Jeff Fisher would have been fired 3 years ago. You know it.
October 11, 2016 at 2:32 pm #54999nittany ramModeratorI’m still undecided on Jeff Fisher so I can’t say whether he should or should not get an extension. I want to see how things unfold this season. I know that may seem odd considering he’s been the Rams coach going on five years but so be it…

Rams went 3-1 with a backup too…. Case is not a starter, he’s a been a fill in his entire career, including this season.
Only 8 teams have a better record than the Rams do this season….at this point in time with Case Keenum as the helm…. I’ll take it.
I’m losing my patience with Fisher too… but I think the Rams can win in Detroit and beat the G-Men in the UK.
Rams need to start converting TDs in the redzone ……. too many drives went to waste against the Bills last Sunday…..

What kind of extension are we talking about here.

One problem I have, is I would like to see more play action. Teams are loading the box,and Lance Kendricks is a pretty good receiver from the TE spot. To me, use more of Kendricks, and things will open up for Gurley.

Coach Fishair.
October 11, 2016 at 5:47 pm #55021NewMexicoRamParticipantThe Rams play losing teams for the next 6 games.
If Fisher isn’t at least .500 in that streak, he should be replaced this offseason.

Yes as soon as Belichick becomes available along with their entire organization Stanky will change them out. Well unless he’s a billionaire business man with little to any current NFL knowledge.

You know they actually HAVE been doing that. Not just with Kendricks, but with Quick, Austin, and Britt too.

October 12, 2016 at 5:02 pm #55082Isiah58ParticipantWell, here is the next question: Who do you replace Fisher with?
Jeff Fisher has 22 years of head coaching experience. He has taken a team to a Super Bowl. He has won 177 NFL games including playoffs. So, who have you got who is going to do better?
People mostly assume that the next person will automatically have all of Fisher’s positive attributes and fix all of the negatives. Or just want change for change’s sake. Well, it would be good if you are advocating a new coach to hear your plan for succession.
And let’s not have the same tired retreads like Jimmy Johnson and Bill Cower. Those guys are done. There are not a bunch of Super Bowl winning coaches just sitting on the sidewalk just waiting for the Rams to call. If the you think the hot new assistant coach is the proper path, just harken back to Scott Linehan and Steve Spagnuolu for the last time the Rams tried that avenue. So yes, Fisher and Snead have taken the long path but they have built a team that can beat anyone in the league right now and they are the youngest team in the league. They will get better. The best approach is to maintain continuity and keep the train on the path, IMHO.

Isiah 58I agree with that for the most part. There does come a time though when it becomes obvious the current coach isn’t going to get it done. When that time arrives is open for debate but that time does come. And at that point you have to make a change even if the next Lombardi isn’t immediately apparent or available.
Fisher hasn’t reached that point yet although it can be seen when the sky is clear and the sun is just right.
October 12, 2016 at 5:41 pm #55090Isiah58ParticipantOf course you are right. Right now, the Rams are in the middle of the bell curve. I’m just saying that a coaching chance doesn’t automatically shift them to the right.

Isiah 58I agree with that.
Part of me wants to add more but I have no fuel in my tank right now for Fisher War posting.
So I just put in “informal poll votes.”
October 12, 2016 at 8:00 pm #55098JackPMillerParticipantFisher has been here for 5 years, it has not worked. It is time for a change, and to get a new voice. I have not seen any improvement from this team. We are still no where near a .500 type team, which is embarrassing. At this stage we should be contending for a Super Bowl, not 8-8.

Jack, how can you be sure the Rams aren’t even a 0.500 team when they are currently a 0.600 team (3-2)? They could be 5-2 at the bye.
October 12, 2016 at 8:15 pm #55101znModeratorFisher has been here for 5 years, it has not worked.
And how many of those years did he have both a starting caliber qb and a relatively healthy OL?
Actually it’s games not years. And I can count them. If you count Foles 1st 4 games as a starting caliber qb (and not a meltdown qb destined to be benched and cut) then it’s exactly 19 out of 64 games.
I usually get the “all teams have injuries” mantra at this point, but actually, it’s not true that all teams cope with having to start back-up qbs AND having to repair damaged OLs at the same time.
I always ask, can you think of any teams that thrived under those conditions? No one has ever given an answer that stood up. So you either factor that in or you don’t. I always will.
And this year’s story is yet to be written.
See this is why I don’t have much in the way of Fisher Wars energy. I just basically end up repeating myself.

…It is called coaching. If you have good coaches, you can overcome that stuff. Coaches know how to figure these things out, and Fisher has not. Belechick does, Tomlin does, Kubiak does, so why can’t Fisher.
October 12, 2016 at 9:08 pm #55106znModeratorIt is called coaching.
Actually it’s called “examples.” Provide some. Name all the coaches that took teams that lost a starting qb and had recurring OL damage issues at the same time, who won with that.
I can name examples of teams where even ONE of those things stymied them.
Can you name any coaches that did well with both issues at the same time? I don’t mean a rare exception (though I am not even sure THAT exists).
Because if there are no real examples, that’s just you repeating a cliche that has no truth value. It’s not something real. It’s just something people say.
…
October 12, 2016 at 9:39 pm #55107ZooeyModeratorWell, I dunno about Fisher. I do not buy the “5 years of crap” argument because he inherited a team with about 4 or 5 “real” players on it. They didn’t even have a single decent starting unit. So they have been building, and they have quite a few good players now. And the discipline is better. I am inclined to give Fisher a couple of years of time with Goff at QB. So I’m good with him up to the move.
I am less sure about Boras. Am I the first Boras Skeptic?
Something has to be done for Gurley. And the things that seem obvious to little old me are to run more of the Jet sweeps that worked last year, more Austin runs from the backfield, more screen passes (remember when we used to cry for how they threw too many of those? Now they never throw them), get Gurley out wide with pitchouts, run some draw plays with him, and – for the love of God – throw more slants across the middle! Those work a LOT. Do more of them. And where are the TEs? Kendrick pops up once in a while to great effect. Do Higbee or Hemingway have any receptions this year?
With no chart in front of me, seems like the Rams run up the gut, throw long passes horizontally that are short vertically, and once in a while throw a slant or deep ball. They NEED to find some other effective attack. Last year it seemed like their only effective attacks were Austin and Gurley. Seems like this year, they forgot they have Austin, and defenses just load up on Gurley.
October 12, 2016 at 10:34 pm #55111InvaderRamModeratori have my doubts about boras too.
it seems to me an oc should be able to scheme their best guys into more productive situations.
i dunno. maybe i’m wrong. but gurley should be more productive than he is despite the oline’s shortcomings. i’m wondering if there is something wrong with the scheme or the playcalling.
