I have seen some references to the Rams only throwing downfield now and then. Actually it’s a regular part of their offense, regardless of the qb. In fact setting up big plays (and not just play action passes) is a core part of their identity. I think underestimating this is related to people overestimating how often teams throw long.

5% of total attempts is a good average. An average like that would put the Rams in the top 3rd of the league.

In 2014 Hill and Davis, on passes of 31 yards or more, combined for 5.46% percentage of attempts.

In 2015 Case Keenum was 4.8%.

    In 2012 Bradford was 4.9%.

To give you some idea of context, I looked up about 16 qbs. Last year Roethlisberger was 6.8%, Palmer was 6.7%, Newton was 6.6%, Dalton was 5.9%, Cutler was 5.6%, Flacco was 4.3%, Wilson was 4.1%, Luck was 4% Rodgers was 4%, Brees was 3.8%, Rivers was 3.6%, Brady was 3.4%, Tannenhill was 2.6%, Stafford was 2%, Ryan was 1.9%, Eli was 1.9%,

So in 2015, even with Keenum, the Rams threw passes of 31 yards or more on a higher percentage of total attempts than did the Ravens, Seahawks, Colts, Packers, Saints, Chargers, Patriots, Dolphins, Lions, Falcons, and Giants.

i honestly don’t care how often they throw it long. i just want them to be proficient at the mid range passing game. although passing it long might open things up mid range. so i guess it’s good to see they’re throwing it long. but then. the mid range passing game still sucked so…

    I agree with that.
