What does it Philip Rivers’ success after a 5-year layoff say about the league’s QB development process? How can a 44-year old throw for nearly 300 yards after sitting on the couch when so many young QBs struggle? Sounds like an off-season project for NFL front offices..

    Mitchell Schwartz@MitchSchwartz71
We’ve got to stop this “sitting on a couch” narrative. He’s been coaching, running an offense similar to the one he’s playing in, and in communication with the HC who he previously played for. If any of the under 25 guys now play until they’re 40, I guarantee you they can come off the “couch” 5 years after that and mentally handle running an NFL offense. Your body fails but you never get less experienced or knowledgeable. It says that one of the better QBs the NFL has seen that was really smart learned a lot about football in his career and then he stayed sharp by coaching and it turns out he’s still smart enough to run an offense. I’m not sure why anyone should be surprised by that.

And to follow that up like…we’re seeing younger QBs developing just fine. Mahomes Lamar Allen Dak Goff in that mid age on 3rd deals and restructures. Burrow, Herbert, Lawrence, Love, Purdy, Hurts as second contract guys. Stroud, Maye, Caleb, Daniels, Nix as 1st contract. I’m sure I’m missing others. I think the NFL is doing just fine. A rookie made it to the conference championship last year. A 2nd year guy might win MVP this year. I really do not get this referendum on QB development we’ve been having since Rivers came back.

also why i hope stafford remains with the rams until his 40s.

There’s an article in the Baltimore Sun by Mike Preston, apparently, purty critical of Lamar Jackson.

“The breakdown of an NFL player’s body is natural, but Jackson could help himself,” Preston wrote in a column on Christmas Eve. “He doesn’t need to be up late at night playing video games or falling asleep in team meetings. He needs to train more around The Castle instead of only attending mandatory minicamps, where he disappears after one day.”

“A major problem, a lot of it on the Ravens, is that there are team rules and then there are rules for Jackson,” Preston writes. “That’s why Baltimore practices in the heat of the afternoon instead of in the morning.”

“Once the Ravens become critical of Jackson, he becomes more withdrawn,” Preston writes. “It’s a shame because Jackson isn’t a mean-spirited person, just an overgrown kid in an adult’s body.”

Saw a stat. 9 NFL teams are 11-4 or better. Thats the most since the league went to sixteen games in 1978.

Lot of reasonable choices this year. My vote would go to Shannahan, i think.

Shanahan has done an amazing job, but Vrabel and Johnson have completely turned around franchises, and that will get them more votes.

Hard to remember a more rightfully crowded COY candidate group. Vrabel, MacDonald, Coen, Payton, Shanahan, Johnson, Ryans, Steichen depending on how this finishes out and Canales has these Panthers on a joyride season. McVay is coaching for a Super Bowl. Jim Harbaugh. So many.

Ravens just mauled the Packers on the ground. D Henry had over 200 yards. Packers the 7th seed now and would play at Chicago. (Rams #6, at Philly).

I dont know who the heck Malik Willis is, but he looked like Lamar Jackson last night for the Packers. They might have another franchise QB on their team. He’s only 6’1″ though.

    Kyle Malzhan@KyleMalzhan
Malik Willis will hit free agency after the season. He proved to be a starting QB in the NFL throughout his 2 seasons with the #Packers.

    – 6 passing TDs
    – 3 rushing TDs
    – 0 INTs
    – 977 passing yards
    – 261 rushing yards

His pitch is simple: “What you put on tape is your pitch.”

    Seattle 3
    Carolina 3 Halftime.

    Inter esting.

IF the 49ers get the one-seed, I am going to gag. They are behind the Rams, Eagles, Seahawks, and Bears in wv-hierarchy.

Since when does Brandon Cooks make clutch contested catches?
    (at the 13 min mark)

I was hoping Josh Allen would not look like an MVP in this game. He came close. I dunno.

0 TD passes, sacked 5 times, 2 fumbles w/ 1 lost, qb rating of 88. Upside: 2 TDs rushing.

Plus, he missed a wide open receiver on the last play of the game.

Hurtz had ZERO yards passing in the second half. I think it was 4 straight 3 and outs, or something like that.

17 total yards in the second half.

Eagles again, win a game on a blocked kick.

Eagles talking-heads are flipping out. Acting like it was a loss.

Just following the Chicago/SF game through online stats while doing other things.

It appears to be quite some game.

Right now, Bears are ahead 38-35 w/ a little over 5 to go in the 4th quarter.

Looks like neither defense can stop the other team’s offense. Both teams can pass, both teams can run. Though of course the Bears started off with a pick 6.

i think drake maye wins mvp. he’s now ahead of stafford in qb rating. just slightly. stafford is gonna have to play lights out with a less than healthy oline.

and if rams can win out. and niners beat seahawks. maybe he’s got an outside chance.

Well Stafford has 40 TDs. Maye has 30. Thats big. The QB rating is almost identical. 120.1 to 120.9. And Drake played cupcake after cupcake, while Stafford went up against the Eagles and Texans, etc.

I think Stafford wins it, IF he has a good game and the Rams beat the Falcons. But only if he has a good game and they win. If Stafford is mediocre tonight and the Rams lose, i think its up in the air.

I also think some voters have a ‘sentimental’ aspect to their voting. Its a small factor, but its there. We saw it when Josh Allen won over Lamar last year. Lamar had way better numbers. But Lamar had already won two times.
I think voters feel Drake has a lot more years to win it.

Btw, I see Trent Williams pulled a hamstring last night on Purdy’s pick-six. The 49ers need that bye.

I think I prefer Seattle to win. The 9ers winning anything feels like kissing a sister. And I think Darnold is easier to disrupt than Purdy. And… Shanahan is just so damn prepared.

    Pop Quiz:

    1) Was Trent Green’s winning percentage above or below .500 ?

    2) What do Jeff Garcia, Jim Plunkett, and Eli Manning have in common?

3 Who has a higher winning percentage: Matthew Stafford, Andy Dalton or Dan Fouts ?

Stephon Diggs charged with ‘felony strangulation’

Yeah people should always go for misdemeanor strangulation. Not hard to learn the difference. It’s a technique thing.
