Well. Awful, sloppy showing from the Rams, who’ll drop to 7-2. Stafford threw two picks in the first half; one a pick-6. Rams converted four third downs, had 0 TDs, Stafford was sacked 5 times before this Q4 possession. Titans flat-out bullied and out-schemed Rams, to me

I can deal with losses. But why does every McVay loss feel like the Rams just implode as a team? Titans & Cards losses this year were never really close

One of those days, every team has to have them! #Rams have an extra day this week to prepare for the 49ers, LETS GO🚀

Titans should be favorites to come out of the AFC. Crushed Chiefs & Rams. Beat the Bills.

    Rams vs bad teams: 6-0
Rams vs good teams: 1-2, blown out in both losses.
Not good enough. This team isn’t going into GB & beating the Packers. Hell, I’m worried about the 49ers game next week. Shanahan owns McVay.

11 penalties, 5 sacks, 2 ints….the most undisciplined performance of the year. A trait we have seen on occasion from McVay: he does not or cannot make in game adjustments

    Rams Brothers@RamsBrothers
Rams penalized 11 times for 110 yards. Looks like we’ve witnessed the last Nerf gun dart fight for quite some time.

The Rams’ 115 penalty yards are their most in a game since 2014 when they had 119 against the Cowboys

    Chris B@BiggameCB
The two turnovers were clearly on the quarterback but the playcalling and protection of the first half and lack of adjustments were completely on coach

Tonight was the first time ever Matthew Stafford has thrown two interceptions on consecutive passes.

Just a weird night we’d like to forget.

Matthew Stafford blames “too many” of the sacks on himself holding the ball too long. He says he had guys open underneath but he was looking too much for the big play.

The rams did not ‘beat themselves.’ They were mauled.
    Just say that.

Yes, they made tons of ‘mistakes’ but they were forced
    mistakes.

Matthew Stafford just looked… off. He did not practice most of the week because of back stiffness.

Tennessee has now won 4 straight games against teams that made the playoffs last season. Only 3 other teams have done that in the past 15 seasons. Each of those 3 went on to play in the Super Bowl.

The Titans keep on rising to the challenge.

Brian Allen with a 38.4 pass blocking grade last night against the Titans. He also got credit with two sacks and four pressures. Not his best performance to say the least.

    Austin Gayle@PFF_AustinGayle
Jeffery Simmons currently leads all DTs with 42 total pressures, per @PFF.

Aaron Donald (41) has been the league leader for five straight seasons (2016-20).

I actually don’t think the Rams got whupped, per se. I think Stafford beat the Rams with his ints. The whupping was enabled by those pics. Take them away, and the Rams could have stuck with the run, and play-action off the run, and may well have won the game. I don’t think they were even quite out of it — though damn close — until that horrendously stupid call on Donald for RTP. What a pathetic call, and I’d say that if it had been thrown against the Titans too. Obo’s call, OTOH, was legit, but it wouldn’t have happened without the first call, because the Rams would be on offense.

Stafford continues to be erratic. Elite on one play, a bad rook on the next. As mentioned before, much of that is understandable, given a brand new team, etc. etc. But he needs to step up and get steady. He has the skills, especially the arm talent, to put the bad rook stuff far behind him and just be elite. No QB can be perfect, of course, so I’m talking elite in relative terms. But he couldn’t be on a better team to get there.

In short, to me, this was a winnable game. Stafford wasn’t alone in screw-ups, of course. The inside of the O-line was especially lousy. But I put most of this on him. He’s gonna get better, which means the Rams will too.

Some interesting stuff today from Cooper Kupp and Sean McVay, and will try to illustrate why even as I’m still marinating on it myself a bit here…(thread)

First, Tennessee was able to pressure at high rate with four, especially in first half (they only had to blitz 4 times and had 15 pressures with 4 or fewer rushers per NextGen; first half Stafford was pressured w four on 40% of dropbacks, highest of year). Rams also were facing

bad dwn/dstnces a lot. Stafford has produced against 2Hi/shells, Rams entered game leading explosive pass play rate in NFL despite him seeing second-most 2Hi (@joeyanalytics ). But running same concepts from deeper behind sticks affects development time, and

further helps pressure feast if already doing so and QB is looking for those explosives (Stafford admitted he was on couple of those sacks/hits). Here’s Kupp on this; basically you’re wanting a blend of catch-and-runs under those shells/roofs w handpicked explosive air yards opps

So, we saw this group, McVay especially, start to understand last year when he had Staley’s defensive philosophy (even tho, no, Titans were not actually playing exactly that, but 2Hi shells are high-rate in NFL now and combined w PRESSURE this is more about philosophy vs scheme),

that the patient plan wins in games like this. Or, at least, the defense is baiting coach and QB to force the high-efficiency play (large air yards downfield) rather than control the ball and build medium catch-and-runs, ESPECIALLY when facing a deficit as they were.
