Devonta Freeman punched Aaron Donald, and Freeman was the guy who got thrown backward from the impact. LOL.

The Falcons are somehow one of the 5 worst teams in the NFL. They should be active at the deadline, looking to move veterans (Sanu? Beasley?) for picks.

Sean McVay credited Rams cornerback Aubrey Pleasant with getting Jalen Ramsey up to speed and creating a “tip sheet” for him before his Rams debut. “I felt like I could have played cornerback,” McVay said.

OLB Kevin Green 72.5 (119 games)
    DT @AaronDonald97 63.5 (77 games)

Touchdown Rams. LB Troy Reeder forces the fumble on the punt return, and CB Darious Williams recovers in the endzone for the score. PAT good.

Rams 37, Falcons 10 with 11 seconds left.

A complete performance in all three phases for Los Angeles today.

    Rich Hammond@Rich_Hammond
Good win for the Rams. Still could have been sharper on offense, but couldn’t have been much sharper on defense. The offense is judged against 2017-18, as it should be, and that’s a high standard. After a three-game skid, they’ll gladly take this.

I’m impressed by Henderson’s burst and his ability to push for extra yards after contract. I have to say, he looks like he’s building momentum while Gurley looks more tentative.

Rams are doing what they need to do here, which is run the ball enough to keep the Falcons’ (truly awful) pass defense/rush honest. But the run game just isn’t there for the Rams right now. Just going to have to keep plugging, then pop those 15-yard passes.

More roll-outs from the Rams than I remember seeing a quite a while.

    Greg Beacham@gregbeacham
TD catch was Everett’s 10th target already today. His career high in targets is 11 vs Seattle 2 weeks ago. The Rams have thrown to Everett 34 times in the last 4 games.

Los Angeles Rams 37, Atlanta Falcons 10

    1. Playing a dying Falcons squad is the panacea the Rams needed after three straight losses. The offense, after an anemic Week 6, looked more like the unit we are used to seeing under Sean McVay. Jared Goff looked comfortable in the pocket against a Falcons pass rush that couldn’t take advantage of a struggling Rams O-line. Goff tossed several dimes en route to two TDs on 22-of-37 passing for 268 yards, including a picture-perfect throw that Todd Gurley marvelously hauled in for the first touchdown of the game — the RB’s first receiving score since Week 8, 2018. After being stupefied last week, L.A. converted 8-of-16 third downs and punted just once on its first five possessions of the game. The run-game continues to come and go behind some mediocre blocking but was able to churn out yards late in the blowout. When Goff isn’t under heavy pressure, he can dice up secondaries. Facing Atlanta was the perfect opponent for the QB and the rest of the offense to right the ship, moving to 4-3 before a game against the winless Bengals next Sunday.

    2. The Rams’ midweek blockbuster trade for Jalen Ramsey pitted the star corner against all-world receiver Julio Jones for the first time. While the Rams suggested they would bring Ramsey along slowly, DC Wade Phillips deployed Ramsey liberally early in the contest against Jones. Jalen Ramsey played 26 of 31 snaps (83.9%) in the first half, per Next Gen Stats. Ramsey lined up against Julio Jones on 17 of his 26 snaps (65%) through two quarters allowing three receptions for 69 yards, per NGS. With the second-half blowout, L.A. was able to rest Ramsey late. He played 36 of 52 snaps on the game — 30 of the first 36. Julio still made several plays against Ramsey downfield, but it was easy to see how the Rams plan to use the corner to help boost the pass defense. Phillips brought heat on Matt Ryan and rolled coverage elsewhere with Ramsey mostly one-on-one against Jones. Dante Fowler had a monster game, compiling three sacks, three tackles for loss, a pass defended and a forced fumble and wrecking several other plays. Aaron Donald was again in the middle of everything, including a strip-sack of Ryan, during which the QB was injured. Shutting down an Atlanta offense that came in putting up big numbers is exactly what McVay and Co. wanted to see after acquiring Ramsey for a hefty price tag.

    3. The Falcons are a hot mess. Ryan hobbled off with an ankle injury in the fourth quarter and was ruled out. Running back Devonta Freeman got ejected for throwing a punch at Aaron Donald. Who tries to fight Aaron freaking Donald? Before all that, it was another listless performance from Dan Quinn’s team, who dropped their fifth straight to fall to 1-6. The defensive front couldn’t find pressure if it was sitting at the bottom of the ocean. The secondary allows pass-catchers to gallop wide open. The offensive line has more turnstiles than an amusement park. The offense converted a sad 3-of-12 third downs and netted just 224 total yards. Matt Schaub led the only TD drive of the game in garbage time. The final Rams punt summed up the mess, with Russell Gage fumbling and L.A. recovering in the end zone to cap a laughable blowout in Atlanta. By all reports, the Falcons hoped to avoid an in-season coaching change. The on-field performances might not allow that desire to ride much longer. Quinn feels like a dead man walking a plank that is getting shorter by the week.

With Sunday’s win over the Falcons, the @RamsNFL are now 6-0 when playing in the Eastern Time Zone in the Sean McVay era (since 2017). They are the only undefeated team in the Eastern Time Zone over that span.

    LOS ANGELES RAMS

Jared Goff’s accuracy was impressive against the Falcons. He picked them apart methodically, using a mixture of screens, pick routes and intermediate crossers to march the Rams on several long drives. Although Goff narrowly missed a couple of deeper throws, he put up a beauty on a deep touchdown to Todd Gurley to highlight an impressive day. The Rams’ quarterback thrived on play-action, continually keeping the offense ahead of the chains and opening up some running lanes for the Rams’ quality rushing attack.

The Rams’ defense dominated in the trenches, with the standout performer being none other than Aaron Donald. The play of the game came early in the fourth quarter when Donald strip-sacked quarterback Matt Ryan and recovered the fumble in the process. The game was essentially over at that point, and Ryan left the game injured and did not return.

Star cornerback Jalen Ramsey had an up-and-down debut with the team. He made a great play to force a fumble on a Devota Freeman carry in the first half and was solid for the most part in coverage, although he did get beat by Julio Jones on a route that should have ended in a touchdown.

yeah bengals is another “should win”.

they are worse on defense AND offense and don’t have the luxury of playing at home. and ramsey should be sharper next week than this week you’d think.

The Rams defense’s five sacks today marked a season-high and matched their combined total across Weeks 4-6.

Work of Rams CBs Jalen Ramsey, Troy Hill, Darious Williams, Nickell Robey-Coleman, etc. against one of NFL’s top passing offenses was a key part of that.

Jared Goff, on Todd Gurley’s incredible over-the-shoulder TD catch: “He and I have been working on that pass for the past three to four years… We’ve thrown it many times. To be honest, I don’t think we have ever connected on that route in a game.”

    Vincent Bonsignore@VinnyBonsignore
‘We’re going to be man-based now, get up in their face, mix in some zones…It’s just a more aggressive type defense than we have been to start the season.’ The #Rams with Jalen Ramsey are a different defensive animal.

    Rich Hammond@Rich_Hammond
I wrote it and said it this week, and the Rams proved it. The swap of Marcus Peters for Jalen Ramsey allows the Rams to play defense the way they should, and the way they prefer.

from Rams blow out Falcons 37-10: Instant analysis of Week 7 win
    xyz https://theramswire.usatoday.com/2019/10/20/nfl-rams-falcons-score-analysis-week-7-win/

Player of the Game: Dante Fowler Jr.

Fowler racked up three sacks on the day, setting a new career-high. He beat both Jake Matthews and rookie Kaleb McGary several times, both for sacks and pressures on Ryan, throughout the game. He made a living in the backfield against Atlanta.

    Game notes

This was a big step in the right direction for the Rams, specifically the defense. The pass rush showed up in a big way, the front-seven stepped up against the run and the secondary held the Falcons’ receivers in check for the most part. Additionally, the Rams held the Falcons to negative yardage on four possessions, which shows just how aggressive and good the defense was.

Ramsey may have gotten beat for a handful of catches by Julio Jones, but his mere presence on defense made a world of difference for the Rams. He shadowed Jones and followed him all over the field, often playing tight bump-and-run coverage by pressing at the line of scrimmage. His snaps were limited in his debut with Los Angeles, but his first game couldn’t have gone much better. Ramsey also forced a fumble in the first half, too.

Goff improved over last week, which was arguably the worst performance of his career. On the first possession alone, Goff had two passes for first downs and the Rams converted three times on third down. He finished the game completing 22 of 37 passes for 268 yards and two touchdown passes, also scoring once on the ground.

As good as Goff was compared to last week, it could’ve been much better. He missed a few deep passes to the likes of Brandin Cooks and Gerald Everett, just barely throwing it out of their reach.

It wasn’t an eye-popping performance by Todd Gurley by his standards, but he made a spectacular over-the-shoulder catch for a touchdown – his only reception in the game. He had 41 yards on 18 carries with a long run of 10 yards.

Greg Zuerlein hasn’t necessarily looked like himself this season, and in the first half on Sunday, he missed a 40-yard field goal. He made up for it with a 55-yarder, but he’s had some trouble this season.

Outside of Zuerlein’s miss, the special teams unit was great. JoJo Natson had a long return of 35 yards just before the half, Johnny Hekker successfully pulled off a fake punt on a 23-yard pass to Nick Scott and the coverage group forced a fumble on the Falcons’ last punt return of the game, recovering it for a touchdown.
