Corbett was a steal. I said, repeatedly, that the Browns are a shit show & that they dumped him, in part, because he was a favorite of the Oline coach who criticized the team after being let go. Shocker that a guy with plenty of physical talent could be improving in his 2nd & 3rd years in the league. Shocker.

Sean McVay, when asked if he was aware that Johnny Hekker didn’t punt in Week 3: “Yes, because normally if we do have to punt, I’m pissed.” Face with tears of joy

Rams HC Sean McVay says RB Cam Akers (ribs) is OUT for Sunday’s game against the Giants.

S Jordan Fuller (shoulder) is questionable. They’ll continue to monitor him over the next 48 hours, McVay said.

Jared Goff was on the move in Rams’ first two games. Against Bills, he stepped up in the pocket and showed improved strength.

Rams WR Cooper Kupp on QB Jared Goff’s performance against Bills, which HC Sean McVay has said was Goff’s best of the season so far: “He kept us in efficient plays, he kept us in premiere plays to make sure we were in the right looks.”

Kupp also said Goff’s movement in the pocket is better than it ever has been.

This starts the clock on his 21-day window to be activated. Based on comments from McVay in past 48 hours, the rookie edge is unlikely to debut this week.

The Rams – including Terrell Lewis – will practice in pads today. They are going to be looking closely at how his knee will respond to an increasing workload.

Three reporters whose job it is to cover the WH have tested positive, and one can’t but conclude this was due to an insistence by WH officials on disregarding public safety best practices and thereby turning the WH into an unsafe workplace for everyone.

How the Rams Offensive Line Makes Jared Goff & Pass Game Successful | All 22[/size][/b

Putting these two Vids together to watch the OL

This Vid is suppose to show RB/Henderson Runs, but at the same time look at what the OL did when you see the front view from All22,,, it was a thing of beauty…

So basically you can see from the pass blocking vids above and the run blocking vids below how good the OL did against the Bills

Just to add, these first three teams we’ve played, they all have a pretty good front seven.

Jared Goff has used play action on over 50.0% of his dropbacks.

Since 2012, no QB has finished the season over 43%

What has been OC Kevin O’Connell’s role during game day? Does he sit in the booth and help watch for defensive trends…?

    Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
O’Connell warms up the quarterbacks and gets them through the pregame activation process (my favorite topic!) and then stays on the field during games. This is in part because he, as a former NFL journeyman backup quarterback, is used to analyzing a game from the sideline. This is not a joke, or O’Connell being self-deprecating. He said this seriously. Throughout the game, O’Connell is in constant contact with both Goff and McVay in the headset, not only to diagnose the defense alongside the staff but also to get a sense of what Goff is seeing and feeling. He describes their communication as extremely collaborative.

With no major changes to the OL, why is it performing at such a higher level than last year?

    Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
This is a great question – and I’d first like to share the numbers that indicate success through the first three games for the Rams’ offensive line.

No. 3 in run-block win rate, per ESPN analytics (73 percent).

No. 13 in pass block win rate (60 percent).

Goff has taken four sacks, but has faced just 18 pressures and five hurries (good teams are averaging approximately 11 pressures per game; Goff’s per-game average is six).

No. 3 in rushing (tied with Cleveland).

First, I think they have found the right combination of guys. No disrespect to left guard Joe Noteboom, who is now on short-term injured reserve with a second-grade calf strain, but David Edwards has that mauling presence so desired in a guard. Right tackle Rob Havenstein is playing much better this season than last (before his injury), center Austin Blythe has demonstrated real command, right guard Austin Corbett seems to be consistent so far and Andrew Whitworth still ranks among the best left tackles in football at age 38. And remember, this is a group that struggled last year largely because it couldn’t stay healthy and, on the interior, lacked the maturity that makes for a physical, knuckle-taped, spittin’-swearin’ unit.

“I think it’s just a product of how we felt toward the end of last year,” Blythe said. “You know, everybody is the same guys they were last year, so it’s really just kind of building on the continuity that we were able to get a little bit of last year, toward the end of the year, and just build on that.”

Second, for the most part, they linemen showed up in shape, and with the mindset of being as physical as possible in all phases. And if some weren’t quite ready to go, the way training-camp practices were structured got them where they needed to be.

“I think we’re tougher up front,” McVay said. “I think we’re stronger. I think we’re bigger, inside-out. I think we’ve got some guys back that are healthy. (Strength coach) Justin Lovett came in and established a really good strength and conditioning program. The guys (are) pushing one another. I think there’s been a little bit of the ‘iron sharpens iron’ with how much competitive work we’ve been able to do with the way that camp was set up, where you’re going ‘good on good’ (ones-on-ones). Our offensive guys against the defensive guys and O-line, D-line. I think both those groups have really challenged one another and made each other better.”

Now, all they have to do is stay healthy.

    from https://theramswire.usatoday.com/2020/10/02/rams-jalen-ramsey-top-10-corner-rankings/

Pro Football Focus recently ranked the top 10 corners in the NFL through three games this season and Ramsey checked in at No. 7. Here’s what PFF wrote about the Rams’ star corner.

The Rams don’t play a whole lot of man coverage (21%, seventh-lowest rate through Week 2), but quarterbacks have been scared to throw Ramsey’s way when he’s in man-to-man. He has logged 20 coverage snaps on the outside in man and has yet to see a single target. Ramsey is at his best when the Rams are playing Cover 6, though. On those snaps, he has logged a 90.3 coverage grade, the second-best mark in the NFL.

I watched the week4 Jets/Broncos hi-lites, for some reason. Darnold the young QB for the Jets showed me a lot. That kid was under serious pressure all night long, and he just kept making plays with his feet and arm. Thats a franchise QB, imho.

    Just needs an OLine.

Very Large Telescope spots galaxies trapped in the web of a supermassive black hole

    https://phys.org/news/2020-10-large-telescope-galaxies-web-supermassive.html?fbclid=IwAR077hSmh723fIZ-t29izpovVebor1JdlzB3YRLdYClJBrESuFhS5i65XoA

With the help of ESO’s Very Large Telescope (VLT), astronomers have found six galaxies lying around a supermassive black hole when the Universe was less than a billion years old. This is the first time such a close grouping has been seen so soon after the Big Bang and the finding helps us better understand how supermassive black holes, one of which exists at the centre of our Milky Way, formed and grew to their enormous sizes so quickly. It supports the theory that black holes can grow rapidly within large, web-like structures which contain plenty of gas to fuel them.

“This research was mainly driven by the desire to understand some of the most challenging astronomical objects—supermassive black holes in the early Universe. These are extreme systems and to date we have had no good explanation for their existence,” said Marco Mignoli, an astronomer at the National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF) in Bologna, Italy, and lead author of the new research published today in Astronomy & Astrophysics.

The new observations with ESO’s VLT revealed several galaxies surrounding a supermassive black hole, all lying in a cosmic “spider’s web” of gas extending to over 300 times the size of the Milky Way. “The cosmic web filaments are like spider’s web threads,” explains Mignoli. “The galaxies stand and grow where the filaments cross, and streams of gas—available to fuel both the galaxies and the central supermassive black hole—can flow along the filaments.”

The light from this large web-like structure, with its black hole of one billion solar masses, has travelled to us from a time when the Universe was only 0.9 billion years old. “Our work has placed an important piece in the largely incomplete puzzle that is the formation and growth of such extreme, yet relatively abundant, objects so quickly after the Big Bang,” says co-author Roberto Gilli, also an astronomer at INAF in Bologna, referring to supermassive black holes.

The very first black holes, thought to have formed from the collapse of the first stars, must have grown very fast to reach masses of a billion suns within the first 0.9 billion years of the Universe’s life. But astronomers have struggled to explain how sufficiently large amounts of “black hole fuel” could have been available to enable these objects to grow to such enormous sizes in such a short time. The new-found structure offers a likely explanation: the “spider’s web” and the galaxies within it contain enough gas to provide the fuel that the central black hole needs to quickly become a supermassive giant.

But how did such large web-like structures form in the first place? Astronomers think giant halos of mysterious dark matter are key. These large regions of invisible matter are thought to attract huge amounts of gas in the early Universe; together, the gas and the invisible dark matter form the web-like structures where galaxies and black holes can evolve.

“Our finding lends support to the idea that the most distant and massive black holes form and grow within massive dark matter halos in large-scale structures, and that the absence of earlier detections of such structures was likely due to observational limitations,” says Colin Norman of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, US, also a co-author on the study.

The galaxies now detected are some of the faintest that current telescopes can observe. This discovery required observations over several hours using the largest optical telescopes available, including ESO’s VLT. Using the MUSE and FORS2 instruments on the VLT at ESO’s Paranal Observatory in the Chilean Atacama Desert, the team confirmed the link between four of the six galaxies and the black hole. “We believe we have just seen the tip of the iceberg, and that the few galaxies discovered so far around this supermassive black hole are only the brightest ones,” said co-author Barbara Balmaverde, an astronomer at INAF in Torino, Italy.

These results contribute to our understanding of how supermassive black holes and large cosmic structures formed and evolved. ESO’s Extremely Large Telescope, currently under construction in Chile, will be able to build on this research by observing many more fainter galaxies around massive black holes in the early Universe using its powerful instruments.
