For those that don’t understand why Michael Hoecht drops into coverage. …because the Rams defense wasn’t able to generate edge pressure, that needed to come elsewhere. Rams brought a lot of simulated pressures. If you blitz Ernest Jones, somebody has to drop.

I don’t know what zn means by “invariably AI writing is going to do things I openly and clearly and very specifically don’t allow.”

You basically summed it up. You cannot prove a paper is written by AI but you can tell it is. And virtually everything AI writing does that is bad, and doesn’t work as decent writing, is something you can grade down for being poor writing.

oh. no. i’m not saying they have to spend a high pick on the position or throw huge money at a free agent. but a trade or a mid round pick is necessary. a multi-functional tight end. i like allen,  but he’s a largely untested rookie and i don’t trust long.

Yeah we’re on the same page. I expect them to take the “Vermeil” approach to this, which is to do everything. A mid-round draft pick or trade, a UDFA, a “ronin” type (a released young veteran), a  not-too-expensive FA if there is one (like Robinson). Maybe 3 new guys? That combined with Long and Allen gives them a group to work with, out of which comes the starter or rotation of starters.

As I said, just on paper Hopkins ought to have been the obvious solution to this, but for whatever reason that seems not to be the case.

Going through some old NFL Research to update with final numbers from 2023.
@RamsNFL RB Kyren Williams (112.5) & WR Puka Nacua (92.6) became the first teammates age 23 or younger to each average 90+ scrimmage yards per game… in league history.

yeah. this all of a sudden becomes the rams biggest need on offense.

But it doesn’t have to be a priority need in terms of which draft picks to use, or how much FA money to spend.

Rams have gotten decent production from the TE spot and they certainly use TEs in blocking, especially in 2023 by putting them in motion to block. In terms of targets/receptions/yards, Rams TEs in 2024 accounted for 88 Ts, 62 Rs, & 668 Ys. That’s with a 3rd rounder, a 4th rounder, and a 5th round rookie.

The Rams TE is not a superstar, he’s a good and functional and valuable role player. You don’t need to spend high resources to reproduce that.

That leads to a related but not identical issue–why isn’t Hopkins the next guy up? He knows the system, when he plays (which is not often) he performs, and he knows the system. It ought to be the case where they go “we’ll lose Higbee for a while but then Hopkins can replace him.” They don’t seem to be thinking that way. In 2023 they used Allen more than Hopkins. In fact they kept using Higbee even when he was clearly struggling instead of using Hopkins. I wonder what gives there.

Sorry. I was in Las Vegas. Just got back. Did anything important happen while I was gone?

Rams traded Goff to the Lions. Now their quarterback is that Steph Matthew guy, you know the walking injury guy who can’t even throw where he’s looking.

Laimbeer and Rodman went after Stafford and Faulk

But that has nothing to do with the Rams trading Mayfield to the Tigers.

McVay on whether he expected QB Stetson Bennett to be with team in 2024: “You know, I don’t know that. I think that’s a conversation for another time. I think he’s doing better but I wouldn’t be in a position to answer that accurately right now.”

Higbee’s injury will require surgery. Doesn’t know timeline yet, but one of initial steps in determining is after that surgery takes place. McVay said Higbee could be a candidate for PUP

From Weeks 11-17, Jackson finished 12th in pass-blocking and 9th in run-blocking via PFF. Weeks 1-9 he was 51st in pass-blocking and 60th in run-blocking.

Speaking of age: Nacua is listed as 23 on the official Rams site, but 22 elsewhere. Wiki has him with a 2001 DOB and 22. A few other sites do as well. Weird that they can’t get a consensus age for players.

    I knew it.

The truth is, Nacua is more than one person.

    It makes sense.

Maybe twins born a year apart? That kind of thing.
