znModeratorOkay–now he wants to SELL the team?
My head is spinning.
That is ONLY an internet rumor.
As for your head spinning…allergies?
znModeratorIt’s being inexperienced I think.
Pre-snap reads, ‘n all.
znModeratorIt’s all part of Greg Williams strategy and I don’t know why you would question it.
Oh I see, I see. I get the picture.
You want…a board war.

znModeratorhe Rams have the #1 defense in football against the pass.
I think that’s misleading.
They’re 1st in passing attempts against, meaning, they are thrown on the least of all 32 teams.
But they are 26th in yards per attempt passing on defense.
Which means if anyone DOES start throwing on them, they will give up lots of yards.
znModeratorWhat’s his penalty history?

He’s an expert at drawing “holding” and “blocked in the back” and “personal foul” flags for the other team.
It’s from training as a stunt double. He can actually fly in the air and land badly from apparent hits that never happened. They say watching him practice his routine is like the scenes in The Fight Club when Ed Norton Jr. beats himself up.

znModeratorThe Rams ranked sixth in the NFL last season in the highly respected special teams rankings compiled by Rick Gosselin of the Dallas Morning News.
just four games in….the Rams are off to a very slow start on special teams. They rank in the middle of the pack or worse in basically all of the major special teams categories a quarter of the way through the season:
Well ain’t this interesting.
The Rams 2 best units from last year, the DL and special teams, are both underperforming in 2014.
It would be hard to say something sensible about that being “no coincidence” since no one here was in all the meetings and at all the practices or film sessions.
But it LOOKS like the coaches took it for granted that that was the status quo. Or the players let their own PR go to their heads. Or both.
Or maybe neither. Who knows. Hard to say.
znModeratorHerring is the same guy who picked off Sam Bradford in the final game of his rookie season. If correct, that was the game clincher for Seattle.

Sam Bradford pass incomplete short right intended for Brandon Gibson is intercepted by Will Herring at SEA-37
znModeratorInterestingly, they replaced Ray.x.2 with a vet special teamer who was with the Saints when Wms. was. “Vet,” I think, being the key term.

The irony is this didn’t need to be a battle to come from behind EVEN with the O line playing poorly the first half.
AD over threw wide open Quick, Britt, and Cook several times. It’s his one consistent flaw even when not under pressure. The long balls float. Two of the three could have each been over 150 yards if it weren’t for floating balls.
His throw are EXACTLY what we want with the subtle arch and velocity that gives the WR time to adjust and go up and get it. Unfortunately, he floats them a little too far. When you rewatch the game, you see at least 5-6 open receivers he floated the ball over for massive plays. If he makes 2 of those, it’s a whole different game. He get’s that down a little, OMG, his potential is through the roof. If Davis becomes just a foot more more accurate, this passing O is going to explode.
After bragging on their catching last week, they dropped several catchable balls this game. Not Britt or Quick as I recall but Cook at least one and Pettis several. Others too.
Penalties killed drives and plays again. This wan’t Dallas, they were legit calls for the most part.
How did they almost come back? Those problems went away. AD still floated a few but he also threw some beauties with less pressure. AP dropped key catches to seal the deal but most of the second half they were fighting for balls and making the catch. A false start penalty also helped kill the final series, but they seemed to be far less the second half (I haven’t checked).
The defense played pretty damn good this game all things considered. Eagles have a fast paced high flying offense and the D gave up 20 points. They didn’t sack Noles which is just shocking, but he was under pressure all game. There should have been 2 more interceptions for the Rams. The secondary just didn’t make the plays.
This team is SO CLOSE to being able to play anyone. The O line is key. Everything else pretty much works.
I will add that I think Fish and Schotty blew clock management, gave a way a possession by kneeling in the first half, and, in the end, when they had timeouts and time on the clock, were trying for the big play instead of getting the first down. OF course, it would have worked if AP hadn’t dropped the ball, but a more conservative approach with clock management would have kept them in it.
znModeratorBlue and Gold
second sack, he’ll learn in time, but it’s on Davis.
znModeratorRampage2K-
On the brink of history….no team has ever come back to win a regular season game after trailing by 27 or more in regulation…It happened one time back in 1980, but it took overtime to do it….it was the greatest comeback that never was….
The Rams were going to win this game and the Eagles had that look like they knew they would…the Rams were unstoppable and scored TDs on three straight drives and on their way to their 4th but just couldn’t finish…Just as good as the offense was in the last 20 minutes, the defense was incredible…only allowed one big play, a 20 something yard run by Sproles on 3rd and short on the Eagles final drive, but still managed to to force a punt with two minutes to play..
speaking of the Eagles final drive, TJMac damn near caused Sproles to fumble on their last 3rd on 5 on the Rams 47 with two minutes left to play….That would have been huge!!! But they managed to have them punt anyway and still had a chance to go 92 yards for the win….but a fumble by Sproles there at mid field would have made it much easier…..dang it!!!
Quick is on his way to being a star and Britt is a very underrated part of this offense….The TD catch Britt made was just him imposing his will..he was well covered but just made the perfect adjustment and made that catch, which was nice to see because he just had an easy drop on the play before…and Quick is just having his way with one on ones right now…and tracking the ball very well, the play he made to start the finale drive was huge….
Austin Davis has that Brett Favre in him, he just has this team rallying around him and making plays!!! Hope he continues to make them…One play I know he wishes he had back(as do all of us) is the 4th down play…The delay of game did not help matters there and made it 4th and 13 instead of 4th and 8, a huge difference in the play calling even though its only 5 more yards…anyway, it was still there to be made..Quick had a step on his man and no doubt he comes down with that had it been anywhere near him…also Cook was coming wide open underneath that for an easy first down…Philly did a good job of bringing the heat and forcing AD to just pull the trigger before he wanted to…Damn it was a heart breaker!!! AD would have become legend had he hit Quick there to win it…
Bailey needs to replace Pettis asap…had two easy drops and one that was just a good play be the defender….Bailey catches everything, put him in there!!!
I know we all question some of the things Fish does, but you know what, he never panics and it rubs off on this team…They stayed calm and cool and just kept coming…just wish they wouldn’t have dug such a big hole, we win that game….I know it sounds crazy, but this team is close folks….
speaking of questionable coaching….I don’t know what the heck Kelly is thinking when he is still going no huddle up tempo while trying to protect a huge lead??? amazed me that he didn’t slow it down til the Rams were with in one score…hes going to have to figure something out quickly, cuz that was just dumb and allowed the Rams to mount such an incredible comeback…
I’m not one for moral victories, but it was much better then what the Jets did while getting blown out by the Chargers…They didn’t panic and bench Davis, They didn’t roll over and play dead…They kept fighting and damn near made history!!!!

Bright Spots on a 1-3 team- stream of consciousness post
what i am seeing from this team screams to me that they will be very good before too long
what you look at becomes what you see, so instead of looking at all the reasons to hate the rams, and there plenty, i am going to try to look at what has impressed me so far this season
first of all, we are rallying to the ball
Alec Ogletree is one of the best LB’s in the game
LaMarcus Joyner showed flashes of why he was drafted in the second round against the eagles.. he was perfectly timing his crushing blows to his opponents
EJ Gaines has been about as good as you could expect a rookie corner to be, even a first rounder..
Donald continues to pressure up the middle- if we did wiff on the #2 pick, then at least we got this monster at #14
Saffold has been a man on a mission so far this year, and he is playing with some real passion, unlike what i have seen from him before
i love the Physicality that Britt brought to the WR core- i think this is by far the best group of WR’s since the GSOT days
Quick is finally playing the way i always thought he could, and Fisher and crew told us he would
Bailey gets open when he sees the field- i liked seeing him and Tavon on the field at the same time… that’s when our offense really started to open up this past Sunday
i can’t say that i honestly expected to reach the playoffs this year, but next year, i do
and how about Benny Cunningham- he is looking like a serious force coming into his own as of late
i liked what i saw out of Austin against Philly- having Brian Quick and Kenny Britt should open up some space underneath for him to work with as we move on
i think Robinson is going to be a beast once he gets his chance
znModeratorAnd by the way, he has ALREADY made great plays! That 45 yard catch on the final drive was awesome, clutch, and physically assertive. I’m not altogether sure what more fans might want from him.
Hear, hear.
znModeratorNY Ram Fan
At the game yesterday. Was honestly shocked at how well-behaved the Philly fans were. Saw no fights..almost no cursing…no-one giving me hard time about being a Rams fan (beyond good-natured ribbing). I envied the whole experience they had going on there.
It seems most of the fans have that failure attitude like most Rams fans and those sitting around me really thought the Rams were going to come back and win. Even when Rams were down by 27 they were worried.
Most of the fans around me thought Austin Davis was better than Nick Foles and said they wish they had Davis instead. They were a bunch of whiners though…several near me wanted a Ram penalty on almost every single play. I was counting them and I think at one point Rams had 8 penalties and Philly 1. Once I pointed that out they started to quit their whining. Especially after that missed pass interference call when the Philly CB was allover Quick (I think) in the 4th quarter.
znModeratorFor years the Rams were an ugly larva twisting and roiling in the muck. Now they finally are ready to emerge from their chrysalis as a beautiful moth but their wing is caught so they just impotently flail against the sides of their cocoon prison.
You don’t mean that literally, right?
znModeratorYoungblood_HOF
So we’re sitting 6 rows from the field on the 50-yard line on the Rams side of the field. The Rams bench is literally 50 feet away (albeit we’re 12-15 feet above the level of the field). Players can certainly hear the fans sitting in the first few rows from the bench, although its pretty tough to hear if a player were to yell back.
How do I know this? Because after the Benny touchdown run makes it 34-14, while the Rams are preparing to kickoff, Pettis starts jawing with four Eagles fans in the first row. I have no idea what started it, but he was at the bench, facing the crowd yelling back and forth with the fans. I don’t know why they were getting on him, but as soon as he engaged them, they went crazy. Yelling, cursing telling him how bad he and the Rams were in a way you would imagine idiot Eagles fans would. So this goes on for most of the time the Eagles have the ball and I’m saying to myself, “Why doesn’t he just ignore them, WTF?”
After the Foles fumble, the Rams first play from scrimmage is a Pettis drop. As you know, they complete a TD drive and make it 34-21. When Pettis gets back to the bench these 4 guys are yelling and letting him know what a great drop he just had. He completely ignored them this time and didn’t turn around. Well you know how the rest of the game played out. Pettis has two huge drops on the final failed drive that would have won the game with a TD.
As all of the players and coaches convene on the field after the final gun, Pettis is seated on the bench right in front of us with his hands in his head. He is just sitting there by himself, obviously distraught because of the drops and these 4 guys are letting him have it. The section is almost empty because the fans have mostly started to leave so we could hear these 4 guys clearly (and so could he, I’m sure). And they’re basically telling him that he screwed up because he had to talk smack in the first place. It was a jarring scene, this guy obviously distraught over the loss and his mistakes and these guys are 30 feet away relentlessly harassing him with a profanity-laced tirade. I started to feel a ping of compassion for him and then I turned to my brother and said, “You know what? He deserves it and they’re right. For what good reason would a professional athlete talk trash to fans, during a game no less.”
Just a sad display of professionalism from Pettis. I don’t know if the fans were in his head when he dropped those balls, but I hated seeing him give them time of day and hated even more that his focus wasn’t 100% on the game.
znModeratorI think Hill and Bradford were all throwing more of these deeper balls and more 50/50 jump balls as ordered from Fisher thru Schotty. We know Fisher wanted more big plays from the passing game last offseason.
Yes. I don;t know how many people see this. But that downfield game was part of their plan going back to the first OTA. And with Britt, Quick emerging, and Cook playing better, they can DO IT now. Just imagine when they get Austin mixed in more and get Bailey going. Kendricks too for that matter. The medium pass has re-appeared too, and I agree, it was the plan from the beginning.
But, since this thread is about Davis…it’s really valuable that he can do this. He may not have the top arm, but he has big hands (like Brees) and a high release point, so, he can take advantage of this stuff.
They had some of this with Bradford last year (games 5-7). Hill showed he could do this. Davis can do this. Clemens couldn’t.

znModeratorAm i stating the obvious here?
You were THERE.
Meaning, it’s obvious you were stating the obvious. So why state the obvious? (About stating the obvious). Of course, that’s obvious….
A qb controversy? You know…it might not be so bad.
If they draft a guy maybe they can make it 3.
QB controversies are only bad when they divide the team.
Fans? We were all going to fight about something ANYWAY.
znModeratorplaceholder, nm (it’s technical)
znModeratorWell, Davis clearly had a case of the nerves early on and then at the end, where he threw to the wrong spot. That’s twice now he didn’t make it work in comeback time. I will say he has arrived when he DOES make it work in comeback time.
Say what you will about Bradford—people have lots of opinions on that—but he was getting comeback wins, not near-wins. (in fact he had 5 in 2012/2013 combined).
BUT in spite of starting skittish (early in the game) and ending skittish (on the final play), Davis did very well in that long series of 2 minute drills in the 3rd and 4th quarters. That counts very heavily.
Is the “comeback” thing a product of experience? It really could be, I dunno, so maybe he will start getting them.

znModeratorRAMS REPORT CARD – WEEK 5. SAME OLD SLOP
Jeff Gordon grades the Rams following their loss in Philadelphia.Quarterback: B
Austin Davis keeps things interesting. He helped put the Rams into a 34-7 hold with two costly fumbles, including one the Eagles fell on for a touchdown. Then he rallied his team fiercely to cut that lead to 34-28 before running out of time and plays. He finished with 29 completions in 49 attempts for 375 yards and three TDs. He added 30 yards on three scrambles. Davis has physical limitations, yes, but his competitive drive is boundless. He continues to exceed expectations.Running Back: C
Zac Stacy was better in the passing game (four catches, 36 yards) than in the running game (11 carries, 42 yards, one very costly fumble) before departing with a calf muscle injury. Benny Cunningham did his change-of-pace thing, producing 71 yards and a TD on 10 touches (seven runs, three catches). Trey Watts got the game’s first carry, interestingly enough, and also had two catches for 12 yards.Receivers: B
Brian Quick’s breakout continued with five catches for 87 yards and two TDs. He got open, made nice adjustments on the ball and put his size to good use. Kenny Britt (three catches, 68 yards, TD) made some key downfield plays, too. Tavon Austin returned to active duty with two catches for 33 yards. His buddy Stedman Bailey (two catches, 20 yards) got his first offensive action of the season. But with the game on the line, Austin Pettis failed to hang on to two passes on the final Rams drive.Tight Ends: C
The game started badly for the unit, with Lance Kendricks earning two early false start penalties with the help of Philadelphia’s crowd noise. And the enigmatic Jared Cook dropped one of Davis’ better throws, a deep ball up the right sideline. But Cook (four catches, 44 yards) and Kendricks (one catch, 22 yards) also made timely plays to extend possessions.Offensive Line: D
The low point came when LT Jake Long whiffed on a block to allow Eagles LB Trent Cole to sack Davis. Then Long failed to corral the resulting fumble, letting Cedric Thornton get it instead for a TD. Ill-timed penalties on RG Davin Joseph (holding) and RT Joe Barksdale also hurt. C Scott Wells chiped in another high shotgun snap. The line allowed four sacks, two resulting in fumbles, and forced Davis to repeatedly scramble. The Rams’ pass blocking only improved after the Eagles decided to sit on their big lead and let Davis get into a rhythm.Defensive Line: D
Once against the Rams failed to visit “Sack City”, despite facing a depleted offensive line. DE Robert Quinn came the closest, but he failed to haul down Eagles QB Nick Foles after getting hold of him. Quinn also prolonged a Philadelphia possession by jumping offsides. The Rams did pressure Foles periodically, forcing him to make some strange throws. The defensive front also stuffed the run at key times, forcing the Eagles to settle for two early field goals and then give the gall back at the end. DT Kendall Langford fell on an unforced Foles fumble.Linebackers: C
OLB Alec Ogletree made a great play to strip Eagles RB LeSean McCoy of the football, freeing it up for E.J. Gaines. McCoy ran around aimlessly like he was lost in a video game and the Rams made him pay. Ogletree (seven solo tackles), MLB James Laurinatis (six solo) and Jo-Lonn Dunbar (five solo) were busy and effective against the run. If only the front seven hadn’t allowed a late 25-yard run by RB Darren Sproles that limited the Rams’ comeback opportunity.Secondary: C-
The unit’s play ranged from tremendous (CB E.J. Gaines’ downfield interception) to hapless (nobody covering WR Jeremy Maclin’s 24-yard TD catch). T.J. McDonald earned 10 tackles, but he earned a pass interference call on a terrible Nick Foles pass. CB Janoris Jenkins had a nice break-up on third down, but he also let Eagles WR Riley Cooper outmuscle him for a TD.Special Teams: F
A stunning blocking breakdown led to an early blocked Johnny Hekker put and the first Eagles TD. That blunder put the Rams into a hole they never could escape. Later special teams penalties on Ray Ray Armstrong (personal foul in coverage, after a 23-yard Darren Sproles return) and Chase Reynolds (blocking from behind on a return) cost the Rams important field position. Hekker was good when he got his punts off, pinning two inside the 20, but the Rams did little in their return game.Coaching: D
Brian Schottenheimer came out attacking in the air. That didn’t work—due to Davis sailing some early throws—and soon the Rams were down13-0. Defense coordinator Gregg Williams lacked answers, too, as the Eagles raced to their 34-7 lead despite erratic QB play. The Rams mounted a late comeback, but Eagles coach Chip Kelly facilitated that by playing not to lose. Then there were the 10 Rams penalties for 82 yards coming off their extra bye week preparation. The Rams are as sloppy as ever in Year 3 of this regime.

Rams are off to a 1-3 start for the second year in a row.
He could go on.
They play well for long stretches and show how good they are. (Yes I mean good–they have talent, they do key things well, the coaching puts them in a position to win).
And then they just make over the top mistakes.
Commit 4 or 5 of those a game, and you lose.
It’s like watching an archer who puts 3 or 4 right on target and then shoots his own leg by making a mistake loading the next arrow.

On the Rams’ last offensive play of game, Brian Quick was running right play _ a post route. Davis didn’t throw to right spot.He rushes his throws when that pressure is coming right at him. They are going to have to work on that. Obviously I’m not blaming Davis….he’s why the Rams got back in it. He made some gutsy throws staging that come back
What I am saying is I noticed that when that pressure is coming at him up the middle his mechanics breakdown. The Pettis drop on 2nd down is an example. Recall Pettis dropped a similar pass in that Tampa game. Now IMO he should have caught both but what I noticed is that Austin does not follow through well when he sees that kind of pressure. He does not have that problem when he is moving left or right to avoid pressure
The kid threw some great passes today….threw some bad ones too. The last pass to Quick was a miscommunication obviously. This time the QB throws to the wrong spot and it’s on 4th down no less. That gives your team no chance. So I won’t let Davis off the hook for that. I do know he’s young though and we are going to have to live with these kinds of mistakes unfortunately
I don’t know why people are commenting on Davis’ passes. I really don’t get it. Davis’ passes look like Drew Bree’s passes. What did the guy do to keep the Rams in the game? The answer a ton…. I don’t care about how wobbly his passes are
I mean seriously the guy is among the leaders in yards per pass attempt in the NFL.
Do I think he is the answer long term right now? No…and neither does anyone else. I think a lot of us are hoping he’s good but nobody is banking on it. Doesn’t mean people aren’t rooting for him to do it though’

I was [saying during the game] that if we just hit Foles/knock him down on every pass play….he’ll start throwin junk and make mistakes.
He looked very skittish compared to our intrepid Davis in just his 3rd start.
In fact, Davis’ play is starting to make me think he’s got staying power than I thot.I’ve been waiting for the crazy mistakes I saw Davis make in the PS his first 2 yrs here… but it was Foles throwing up those ducks……….and NOT Davis!! Davis is playing some stellar football at the hardest position.
I’ve been waiting for him to come back to earth only because I have rarely seen such growth happen so fast for a QB. It’s hard for me to believe what I’m seeing…honestly!! Davis is NOT the same QB he has been for 2 years!!WE had like 4 drops today, that if caught, might have been enough to win it!! Again, we are falling 1-4 plays away from WINNING these games….and that matters!!!! Cuz, it’s not like we’re missing by 20 plays or are being outclassed in talent. Hardly!!!
His pocket presence and mobility are getting to be very good!! Schotty called another great game. imo With all the mistakes….we still were right there in the end to WIN IT!!!!
I really enjoyed the progress and see some real hope as our 4 rookie defensive PT starters(Gaines, Joyner, Donald, Westbrooks) getting valuable experience that will bode well later in the season. Fun game to watch!! I love how Fisher had these guys fighting all the way to the end….and not give up down by 27pts. I don’t want to hear it was garbage time either…..cuz it wasn’t…it was EARNED!
If anyone has played the game of football and been in a huddle down by 27 pts….I’d be curious if you’d like to play with folks who pack it in too. I just know who I’d like to be in the huddle with being down and who would fight and who would just go thru the motions cuz the game is already decided by half-time.
The defense coulda helped more….once again! So funny how the defense is foundering!! I don’t know why! The truth may just be comfort level. The offense has been the same for 3 yrs and the defense – while being much the same – has had 3 diffrerent DCs for each of the last 3 yrs. Maybe there’s some discomfort there. I dunno. But the offense has been playing well enough to win….which is an amazing statement to make after playing a very young QB that was formerly a 3rd stringer and having only his 3rd start.
Once again, just a few plays away from winning….instead of 10-20 plays or just a huge lack of talent. The players that are making mistakes are relativley young and learning
(cept Reynolds & RayRay….those were just penalties that put you on the bench for a Qtr or two imo)October 5, 2014 at 6:49 pm in reply to: journalists do the Eagles game post-mortem…Wagoner, Thomas, etc. #9151

Pettis blames himself for two drops on closing drive. At least he stood up and answered questions afterwards.
On the Rams’ last offensive play of game, Brian Quick was running right play _ a post route. Davis didn’t throw to right spot.
Jeff Fisher says Zac Stacy wasn’t pulled from game after fumble that set up last Philly TD; Stacy suffered calf injury on that play.
Fisher said next time Rams player gets a stupid penaltym such as Ray Ray Armstrong’s unnecessary roughness call, he’s sending them off field
Nickel back Lamarcus Joyner apparently misread formation on coverage bust that led to last Philly TD (to Jeremy Maclin).
Rams are off to a 1-3 start for the second year in a row.
In case you were wondering, Rams still have only one sack this season. Foles threw 37 times; was not sacked. #LackCity.
znModeratorWhy are the players still thinking too much three years under Fisher’s regime?
Well first remember that this same defense, last year, after it righted itself, was the best run defense in the league. They were also at the top in sacks. They obviously werent’ thinking too much THEN.
So one season later, why are the DEFENSIVE PLAYERS thinking too much (I don’t think that’s true of the offense).
Well, because, they have a new defensive coordinator who is putting more on them.
It has nothing to do with 3 years. They don’t know what WILLIAMS is asking of them at an instinctive level yet.
Why no pass rush? IMO? The front 7 bought their own press in the off-season and did not work as hard to get it. But because they WERE so good, entire gameplans are devoted to containing them–at precisely the point where they aren’t on the same “edge” they were last year. It’s also possible they are being asked to do new things they’re not used to doing.
If I had to guess what the coach’s part of this is? IMO it’s the same flaw we always see with Fisher. He overestimates his teams. I don’t know what effects that has, but we’ve seen it before. It could be that he thought you COULD put more and different things on them, and they would come through.

Fisher said next time Rams player gets a stupid penaltym such as Ray Ray Armstrong’s unnecessary roughness call, he’s sending them off fieldAbsolutely. There is NO reason for this kind of knuckleheaded crap. It’s time to make them pay for stupidity.
And it only took nearly 3 years for Fisher to take this approach. It’s hard to blame a player for lacking discipline when his head coach doesn’t demand it.
He has demanded it, and it has worked. Last year they cleaned that up, in fact. Ray Ray was getting virtually a penalty a game in the first few games last year, but that stopped.
So they have fixed this. And the spate of special teams penalties we saw early last year did not return earlier this year. Now it’s back.

We were talking about this in the chat.I don’t see issues with preparation. I see issues with execution.
I see a team that keeps making critical mistakes, and that (to me) is in the collective heads of the players. That’s a team that’s pressing
You make this team confident with a big win and I bet they settle down.
I partially agree that some of the fault for poor execution is on the players. However, it’s the coach’s job to fix that. In three years it hasn’t been fixed. Same with the lack of discipline and the stupid mistakes.
This isn’t new, it’s been going on for three years and it’s not getting any better.
Watching the Rams is like being trapped in the movie, “Groundhog Day”.
But see, N, to me, when I was pointing at execution, AND beyond that putting execution issues on things like pressing and thinking too much, I was naming something coaches CAN’T fix. In my mind that’s not a coaching issue. In fact, when a team struggles that way, for those reasons, I have generally seen coaches realize there’s nothing they can do. The team just needs to crawl out from under its own doubts and believe in itself. I don’t think coaches can provide that.
znModeratorI do. Believe it or not.
I see a good, unestablished team making incredible strings of errors.
We just look at this a little differently. I see a team with talent.
But good teams don’t make the same sort of mistakes over and over. Good teams win these games.
Talent is meaningless if the team isn’t using it the right way or it doesn’t show up when needed the most.
To me–that’s a bad team–not an untalented team–but a bad team.
Well, in a classic sense, this is all semantics. Cause I see a team with talent and some real things they’re good at collectively. So if you don’t want to use the word “good” for that, okay. Yes they make big crazy mistakes, and have done so for 3 games now. (IMO mistakes cost them the Vikes game too.) When I see that, I see a team that’s pressing, and sometimes thinking too much, and so on. Like I said, lacking confidence.
To me, “bad team” means lacks talent. It isn’t capable of winning, no matter what.
So to me, “bad teams” can’t turn it around. In contrast, I think this one can.
znModeratorI don’t see a good football team.
I do. Believe it or not.
I see a good, unestablished team making incredible strings of errors.
Some of that is coaching. That is, I think it’s true that Wms re-complicated the defense and they are not playing instinctively and making mistakes. It was the same with the McD offense in the first few games in 2011, IMO.
But I think a lot of it is the team “psyche.” Now I ain’t trying to name some kind of indefinite, mystical thing. But I do think confidence is a real thing, and I think this team just does not have basic team confidence in itself. In a lot of ways, I think that’s what one should expect from a team that’s on its 4th starting qb within the span of 14 games. Anyway, teams that actually have enough talent to win but aren’t confident press.
