Matthew Stafford did not want to talk definitively about the his future after this season so quickly after the loss. I asked Stafford if he believes he still has some football left in him, and with a half-grin he said, “sure feels like it.”

    Rams Bros.@RamsBrothers
Jared Verse was phenomenal today. He backed up all his talk. Already a star in this league. Ended the day with:

5 Pressures, 2 sacks, 2 QB hits, 3 TFL and 4 total tackles.

What a season for the Los Angeles Rams 😤

✅ Won the NFC West after starting off 1-4
✅ Reached the NFC Divisional Round after beating the Vikings on a neutral site
✅ Pushed the Eagles to the brink after trailing by 13 late in the fourth

    Field Yates@FieldYates
The Rams came up a little short but that team deserves a ton of respect.

Started the season 1-4, reshaped the defense after losing arguably the greatest defensive player ever, playing young players all over the roster, dealt with unthinkable recent circumstances.

    Salute

Sean McVay said Matthew Stafford “got his rib early” and played through it

    Lindsey Thiry@LindseyThiry
“He got his rib early, he was dinged up,” Sean McVay says about Matthew Stafford. “But I’m sure damn proud of Matthew Stafford.”

Disappointing end to the season, but such a fun and resilient group to cover

    J.B. Long@JB_Long
Sean McVay with us on @ESPNLosAngeles:

I didn’t see it going down any other way than 29-28.
Tonight another example of why I’m so proud to be associated with this team.
As special of a group as I’ve ever been a part of. I’ll carry memories for a long time with a lot of smiles.

Marty Schottenheimer used to say, “more games are lost than won” almost every day. He would tell us if you don’t turn the ball over, avoid silly penalties and eliminate big plays due to blown assignments or mental errors, it’s hard for the other team to beat you. Looking at the playoffs, he’s so right about winning games. Most teams simply implode… it’s crazy to watch.

I watched some of it. Detroit, 4 turnovers and some massive mistakes like 12 defenders on the field on 4th and 2 with Washington going for it.

    Lions and Commanders are on.

It’s a new era. In this era, a game between Detroit and Washington is very relevant and important.

It’s like imagining a global scenario where a war between Morocco and South Korea will have decisive effects on international relations.

Name another year, where the Rams beat the Minnesota Vikings TWICE in the same year.

    There’s just one other. 1978.

    1978 season: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/ram/1978.htm

Just think. That was 46 years ago. And. Most of us saw those games.

Odd statistic. I guess this will hold unless we beat the Eagles and then play the Lions again. (Unless the Commanders beat the Lions).

Weird Fact: Sean McVay will coach his 13th playoff game as head coach of the Rams this weekend. All 13 games have been against different opponents.

    Opponent -Date
    Atlanta Falcons January 6, 2018
    Dallas Cowboys January 12, 2019
New Orleans Saints January 20, 2019
New England Patriots February 3, 2019
    Seattle Seahawks January 9, 2021
Green Bay Packers January 16, 2021
    Arizona Cardinals January 17, 2022
Tampa Bay Buccaneers January 23, 2022
    San Francisco 49ers January 30, 2022
    Cincinnati Bengals February 13, 2022
    Detroit Lions January 6, 2024
    Minnesota Vikings January 13, 2025
    Philadelphia Eagles January 19, 2025

So he only needs to face the Commanders, Giants, Panthers, and Bears to play every NFC team besides the Rams in the playoffs.

Since Week 7, the Rams defense has allowed a passer rating of 84.5. That’s the 4th-best in the NFL.

Their 12 INTs over that period is also the 3rd-most.

They’ve allowed 5.28 adjusted net yards per attempt which ranks 4th.

from PFF: Top 10 rookie classes in the NFL in 2024 https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-top-10-rookie-classes-2024′

    1. Los Angeles Rams

    Notable Rookies:
    EDGE Jared Verse: 87.9
    DI Braden Fiske: 56.9
    S Kamren Kinchens: 71.2
    S Jaylen McCollough: 59.4
    LB Omar Speights: 68.3
    C Beaux Limmer: 55.9

The list of players above consists of only some of the rookies who have contributed to the NFC West-winning Rams this season. First-round selection Jared Verse is the highest-graded rookie defender in the NFL this season and has immediately become one of the league’s best edge rushers. Fellow Florida State product Braden Fiske has contributed 57 pressures and 10 sacks of his own.

Behind those two have been productive players like safeties Kamren Kinchens and Jaylen McCollough, who have combined for eight interceptions, and undrafted rookie linebacker Omar Speights, who has become a starting linebacker amidst the team’s playoff run. As if that weren’t enough, sixth-round pick Beaux Limmer has made 15 starts this season as the Rams have battled through several offensive line injuries. These players, along with kicker Joshua Karty and others on defense, have been a catalyst for the Rams’ success this season.

    from https://theramswire.usatoday.com/2025/01/16/rams-eagles-vikings-jordan-mailata-defense-quote/?taid=678b97d6ea12d90001b40c20&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=twitter

They sacked Sam Darnold nine times for a playoff-record 82 yards lost, also returning a fumble for a touchdown and stopping Minnesota three times on fourth down. It was a dominant effort from Chris Shula’s group, but Eagles left tackle Jordan Mailata was apparently unimpressed.

He was bothered by how good the Vikings made the Rams look, indicating Los Angeles’ defense benefitted from facing a bad Minnesota offensive line.

“The Vikings pissed me off. I’m not going to lie to you. That made them look like they were otherworldly,” Mailata said, via NJ.com. “I mean they’re a … great defense, but if you really watch it, you’d say, ‘Man, this is a poor plan by them’ and (the Rams) play tough and they just weren’t matching the physical battle, which I tip my hat off to the Rams. You could see from the jump it was clash, clash, clash and when it came to pass protection it wasn’t anything but technique and then unblocked blitzes, which is something we’re taking a keen eye on this week and making sure we’re all on the same page.”

The Eagles have the best offensive tackle tandem in the NFL with Mailata and Lane Johnson, who combined to give up 24 total pressures all season. To put that into perspective, Alaric Jackson allowed 24 pressures alone this year, which is still an impressive number for a starting left tackle.

In their Week 12 meeting, the Rams had just 14 total pressures as a team, which is 29 fewer than they had on Monday night against the Vikings. Johnson gave up two pressures and Mailata allowed one, helping keep Jalen Hurts upright with just one sack allowed to Braden Fiske.

“This is where we have to give them credit but also understand we are good players, too,” Mailata said.

    from https://www.latimes.com/sports/rams/story/2025-01-16/rams-eagles-nfc-divisional-playoffs-philadelphia-fans-snow

Verse [said] he would be disciplined Sunday, stay on his assignments and contribute to a Rams defense that must control running back Saquon Barkley if coach Sean McVay’s team is to avenge its 37-20 defeat to the Eagles and advance to the NFC championship game.

In November, Barkley amassed 302 total yards against the Rams, including 255 rushing, and scored on runs of 72 and 70 yards. The Rams were out of position to make tackles and also missed Barkley multiple times.

Verse acknowledged his role in the debacle. Several times, he said, opportunities to limit Barkley to a short gain went awry and resulted in long runs because he tried to do too much.

“I just didn’t take advantage of them,” he said. “I left my feet.”

Jared Verse has generated a ton of buzz around the NFL for his outstanding rookie campaign, but he made headlines for a very different reason on Friday. In an interview with the LA Times, Verse flat-out said he hates Eagles fans.

“I hate Eagles fans,” Verse said. “They’re so annoying. I hate Eagles fans.”

It’d be one thing to say that during the offseason, but calling out a rowdy fanbase like the Eagles’ just days before a playoff game may not be the most advisable move. Eagles running back Saquon Barkley sure doesn’t think it was a good idea.

    Gary Klein@LATimesklein
Jared Verse said he woke up to a blitz of social media reaction to his comments re Eagles fans.
