The Cardinals are just cursed. They had the no.1 pick in 2019, and they took tiny Kyler Murray. There were zero great QBs in that class. Just bad QB luck.

If they dont find a good QB the coach doesnt matter.

I guess Bubba’s stint in Indy was a lot better than his time at Cleveland.

Wiki fact: In 2006 he played for the Cologne Centurions.

    =========================
    A.I.
Bubba Ventrone was exceptionally successful as the Indianapolis Colts’ special teams coordinator from 2018–2022, consistently fielding top-10 units and mentoring multiple All-Pro players. His units led the NFL in kickoff return average (24.9) and ranked high in other categories, building a reputation for high-energy, disciplined, and technically sound play.
Key Achievements & Performance in Indy:

Rankings: Ventrone’s special teams ranked in the top 10 in four of his five seasons, including top-five rankings in his last three seasons (2020–2022).
Top Performance: In 2022, the Colts led the league with a 27.8-yard average on kickoff returns.
Player Development: He mentored elite talent, including All-Pro long snapper Luke Rhodes, All-Pro special teamer George Odum, and Ashton Dulin.
Style: Known for an intense, passionate coaching style that heavily emphasized fundamentals like footwork and technique, drawing on his 10-year career as a NFL special teams ace.

Ventrone was considered one of the top young coaching minds in the league during his tenure, before departing to become the Assistant Head Coach/Special Teams Coordinator for the Cleveland Browns in 2023

    Bucky Brooks

    13: Jermod McCoy, CB Tennessee

McCoy is coming off an ACL injury that cost him the 2025 season, making this a risky pick. However, the Tennessee standout is a natural CB1 whose polished game enables him to play in a zone-based scheme that prioritizes ball skills and awareness. The Rams use the first of their two first-round choices to boost their 19th-ranked pass defense.
    ==

    29: Ty Simpson, QB Alabama.

Simpson was a starter for just one season at Alabama. Still, despite his limited experience, the QB could intrigue Sean McVay as a potential successor to Matthew Stafford. As a mobile playmaker, Simpson fits the Baker Mayfield mold, which has worked within this Rams system.

In the mean time, I can’t help but feel like the Rams had a golden opportunity this year to win it all, and they didn’t. And those windows only come along intermittently.

Basically, it’s better to win now than to hope for the future, so fuck everybody. That’s what I’m saying. I want satisfaction. I demand it.

Golden opportunity. Yeah, I know. It sucks. I refuse to watch any of the vids on the Seattle game. I still havent watched any vids on the Martz-fiasco from 2002.

I think we’d have to go back to Martz’s super bowl team to find a Rams team that may very well have been the ‘best’ team in the NFL and still lost. Before that, you’d probly have to go back to a couple of those 70’s teams that lost to Bud Grant.

This was all explained on Grits’ Powder-Blue-and-Sunshine-Gold Board, which you were never invited to be on.

if they really are going all in, they don’t need to keep throwing valuable resources toward offense. the offense was just fine this year and will be next year. they need to start investing real capital into the defense if they see a one or two year window.

I dunno. Davante is 33 and he gets pounded out there. Puka is gonna start showing wear and tear and brain-damage in the near future, the way he plays. That 13 pick is tricky. Someone is gonna drop who will be very tempting for McVay.

I bet they split the picks about 50/50 tween Offense and defense.

    Combine: Feb 23-March 2, Indy.
    Draft: April 23, Pittsburgh

should mcvay fire shula? i thought at first keep him, but i’m wondering if mcvay needs to change something drastic..

I guess it depends on what McVay thinks is the reason the defense went from very good to averaging giving up about 30 pts a game. Twice to 5’10” Bryce F’ing Young.

Maybe the personnel is just bad. But maybe teams figured Shula out. I dunno.

    Nate Atkins@NateAtkins_
Nathan Scheelhaase won’t be headed to the Browns. At least not as a head coach.

Still a couple openings left, but the odds that the Rams keep Scheelhaase and Chris Shula have gotten a good step better.

35 year-old Scheelhaase is still a year away. And given how good the Rams offense looks for next year, he will have more than one offer to be a head-coach, i would bet.

    Btw, his 40-time is 4.53.

Also — does Mike Shannahan get credit for all of McVay’s coaching branches? If he does then if we add up Kyle’s branch and McVay’s branch, I would think Mike Shannahan is the most influential coach in modern history. Moreso than Andy Reid and Belichex. Maybe. I dunno.

so landman gets a 3 year 22 million contract. jones gets a 3 year 33 million contract. they gave tutu a one year 10 million contract. and he’s inactive for the nfc championship.

weren’t they better off just giving jones the three year contract? or was he asking for more at the time?

they don’t usually make mistakes, but this time they did.

Not sure Seattle wins without Kupp and E.Jones.

So many playoff games come down to one big play. Without a dominant team in the NFL these days, you have about ten teams that are within one or two plays of each other. Razor thin room for errors.

Collinsworth still cant watch this one.

There are 6 million 6 hundred and 6 reasons why the USA has become the Ecocidal Death Machine it has become. Big reasons and medium reasons and small reasons. One of the Big-Reasons is the evolution of corporate-capitalist-propaganda in all its pervasive forms, whether reflected in movies, ‘education,’ books, blogs, institutions, tv-shows, advertisements, whatever.

I discovered one of those examples of propaganda the other day when i watched a show I didnt know much about: Landman. With Billy-Bob Thornton. I watched it, because I liked Billy-Bob Thornton. I dont like him anymore. I dont like Demi Moore anymore either. She’s in it. I dont like anyone who would be in this thing.

If you’ve never heard of it, its a popular series about the Oil Bizness. Set in Texas. Jerry Jones even did a scene in it. The show has speech after speech after speech explaining how their is no alternative to the oil-based economy, and how alternative energies are supported by Russia, and the Oil Industry is what makes America great, and the big Oil Billionaires are very concerned about their workers, and climate change is a hoax, and fracking is actually good, and — get this — the Oil Industry is actually battling the Cartels and terrorists and making America safe for democracy.

I swear, this show is just like watching Fox News. Even the actresses on the show look like Fox News hosts.

The acting is good, the dialogue is snappy, its very slick and entertaining.

We are all doomed. And thats a good thing.

As it stands right now, my guess is that one pick is a DB and the other is a WR. Obviously, an overhaul is needed in the secondary, but I can’t imagine the Rams going defense with both first round picks. It just doesn’t fit with their current profile.

I would expect them to try to address the secondary in FA or through a trade as well as in the draft. So that could change how things go in the first round.

I’d be curious how they view their ‘super bowl window’. Maybe they think Stafford will only play one more year. Or maybe two if he stays healthy next year. If thats how they look at it, they may lean more into ‘going all in’ for the short term. I have a feeling they will really push-the-cap this year. I think they will do more than just sign their core young guys.

As far as the draft who knows. Depends on who they are gonna sign in free agency. Can they pick up a DB in free agency. Can they pick up an OLineman in free agency. Do they have Olinemen on the roster they really like, etc.

If Higbee is leaving do they need a Tight End?

    PFF mock.

    13. Los Angeles Rams (via Atlanta): CB Jermod McCoy, Tennessee

Armed with two first-round picks, the Rams have ample opportunity to add to an already loaded roster this year. Cornerback should be a priority given the team’s recent struggles in coverage. Tennessee’s Jermod McCoy did not play this season due to a knee injury, but he delivered a standout 2024 campaign in which he ranked ninth among qualified cornerbacks in coverage grade (89.6).
    ==
    29. Los Angeles Rams: CB Keith Abney II, Arizona State

Philadelphia drafted cornerbacks with its first two picks in 2024, a move that paid off with a championship. The Rams could look to follow a similar blueprint to address their biggest weakness. Arizona State’s Keith Abney II is coming off an outstanding final season in which he ranked among the top 15 qualified FBS cornerbacks with an 85.3 coverage grade while recording two interceptions and nine pass breakups.

I’d also like to see Jimmy G back. At some point Stafford is going to miss some games, one would think.

    Daniel Jeremiah, mock:

Pick 13: WR Makai Lemon, USC.
The Rams value tough, rugged receivers who are also playmakers. It would almost be unfair to add Lemon to an offense that already includes Puka Nacua and Davante Adams.

Pick 29: Blake Miller, OT, Clemson
He’s flying a bit under the radar now, but you’ll hear a lot more about Miller as we go through the draft process. The former high school wrestler made 54 starts at Clemson. He’s a tough, competitive right tackle.

Against the best defense in the NFC. On the road.

    MVP stats.

Sigh. Its hard to get back to the final 4. The Rams will be one of the favorites next year, along with Chicago, Philly, Green-Bay, Detroit, Seattle, SanFran. So tough to get back. Hard to count on that X-factor — Health.

I would not love either the Browns or the Cards. The Raiders and Bills are in better positions. The Bills are good, and the Raiders are going to get Mendoza to go along with some pretty good pieces.

The Browns and Cards have bad QB situations, and no relieve in sight. And both of those organizations are dysfunctional, and you can’t get a new owner in the draft or FA. I think I’d wait, unless I was jobless right now.

I’d like someone to do a study on cap-space. Like is there a pretty clear relationship between having a lot of cap space and adding more wins the next year? Or not.

Here are the top seven teams with the most cap space for next year, according to one site. The scariest one is the Seahawks :

    Titans 93 million
    Raiders 81
    Chargers 80
    Seahawks 71
    Jets 66
    Commanders 63
    Bengals 46
    Rams 45 million.
