Stafford over Goff? Sigh. Tough one. Goff definitely had the edge in stats, and the Lions won more games. But Stafford makes those throws nobody else can make.

Donald is a shadow of his former self. Which means he has been reduced to nothing more than a standard issue pro bowl DL who is top 5 in pressures. Father time always wins.

wvParticipantLooking at this stat–excluding quarterbacks, where does KW rank on “rushing yards before contact per attempt” ? He’s tied for 1st (with McAffrey) at 3.2. And no other Ram is even close. The next on the list is Rivers and Freeman at 2.5, which is tied for 18th. So with KW it’s both the OL blocking well and KW reading/using his blocks really well. KW actually isn’t that impressive after contact. He doesn’t rank very high there (he ranks just about the middle of the league on that stat, 20th of 47). His major damage is done before contact–reading and using the blocking while reading the defenders who are attacking the LOS. 726 of his total 1144 yards rushing come before contact.

Yeah, this matches up with the eyeball conclusion. He’s a genius at quickly deciding on/creating the best hole. What Cooper Kupp has been to Stafford, K. Williams has been with his Offensive Linemen. There’s a ‘synergy’ or a sharing-of-one-brain, or ‘somethin.’ And it ‘has’ to involve coaching, as well. Some OLine coach is ‘in on this’.
I cant remember ‘enjoying’ watching ‘the way’ a RB runs this much since Faulk. And since Faulk had more talent, its almost ‘more’ fun to watch KW because he’s doing it with less raw-measurable-talent.
Its often a subtle nuanced talent. And it took me a while to ‘see it.’ But once you see it, you just have to smile on almost every run. Whether its a one yard gain or a fifteen yard gain he’s ‘do’in shit’ out there.
AND, despite him not being Earl Campbell after-contact, he does have a fun ‘pop’ when he’s pass blocking. And he blocks cleanly, efficiently. Some backs just look like they are gonna hurt themselves pass-blocking. He knows how to hurt the other guy with one shot.
Fun team. Really fun team. Stafford’s out-of-this-world accuracy and boldness. Kupp’s brilliant-shifty-ness. Pakua’s competitive professionalism and enthusiasm. KW. Aaron Donald. The Conductor. Swiss-army knife Higby. The big bad Guards.
Just a few players and a kicker shy of being Ring worthy.

This comes on the heels of the Rams announcing that starting quarterback Matthew Stafford will rest in Week 18 in favor of Carson Wentz.
Shanahan said, “Brock’s the only guy for sure I don’t plan on playing.” That’s not counting Christian McCaffrey, of course.
Shanahan said, “there’s a good chance we’re playing this team in two weeks, so I think both sides will be pretty vanilla” when talking about the game plan for Sunday….

Well, I had forgotten about Bruss. No-one has taken him off the Practice Squad, so i guess no other NFL team likes him, either.
Yeah, i guess with all this talk about how good Snead is, 2022 was not a great draft class as far as number of hits. Though, Kyren is so good, I dunno — i might just give the class a B+ just based on that one hit.

that’s a valid point but he should still be in the conversation. at the very least. i don’t know that mainstream media is actually talking about him as a candidate.
Sure, he should be ‘in the conversation’ as to Defensive Rookie of the Year.
And he will be. Cause LA has a good hype-machine, etc. It aint like trying to get a Cincy or Cleveland player some national ink.
I’d be curious how the various DC’s talk about him in the film room, though. IF AD wasnt there, would Turner get double-teamed? Is he that kind of wrecking-ball? Or just a solid DT benefiting from AD?

One wonders if this had something to do with Shanahan beating McVay so often. Always seems like Shanahan is one step ahead of McVay, I dunno.
But if I had been in the situation McVay was in, I would have thought to myself, ‘maybe i need to go outside the Shanahan box, just so Shanahan cant predict every move i’m gonna make anymore’.
Possible? Yes? No?
Or did McVay simply hire the coaches he happened to think were the ‘best available’.

Well, that’s unfortunate, since that’s probably what will happen, in which case the Rams go to Dallas where the Cowboys are unbeaten this year.
First off, Chicago is going to trounce the Packers. Its a lock. I will bet Nittany’s soul on that.
Second, i like the Rams chances against Dallas in Dallas. I actually like their chances against Dallas more than Detroit.
Plus, beating the Cowboys AND the 49ers on their march to another Super Bowl beating the Ravens — in this ‘retooling’ year, is a nice story.

wvParticipantIn many ways they played just-awful. But they have stars. Stafford. Donald. Kupp. Nacua. KW. Higby. They had more talent than Big-Blue.
And at the end, the Giant players could not quite make the big-clutch plays they needed to make. Cause they aint as talented.
Now, put Aaron Donald, Cooper Kupp and Chuck Norris on special teams, and lets move on.
And what a weird F’ing situation in the last week of the regular season. 49ers dont need it. Rams dont need it. What will they do?

I dont think it can ever by over-stated just how great it must be for McVay to have a veteran with as much mental-power and experience as Matthew Stafford. Now that Brady has retired, who is the top QB-brain active on the grid-iron? If it aint Stafford, I dunno who it would be.

wvParticipantThe OLine has been good, indeed. But i reaaallly want them to hold up against the 49ers Dline. In the Shannahan era the Rams Oline’s for the most part, have been batted around like cat-toys by the SF Dline.
I assume McV has gotten really sick of that. Hence the changes this year.
The Oline passed the Baltimore test which was a big one, but still, to me, there’s always one real test — San Francisco.

wvParticipantLooked like KC wasnt missing a beat when they traded Tyreek Hill, but i think its caught up with them. There is just no way you replace a guy like Hill. No way. I think Hill and Mahomes were the most dangerous duo in modern NFL history. Maybe more than, say, Brady and Moss. I dunno.
I’m sure there are other factors in KC’s regression, but i know losing Hill is part of it.
