    “Is the quarterback depth of the Rams among worst in the NFL?”

    Seems that way to me, but who knows.

    Tomlin sometimes reminds me of Wesley Snipes character: Blade.

    No-nonsense, dont-mess-with-him.  And dont do anything that will incur

    the icy ‘stare’.

    I dunno who McVay is.  But he’s not Blade.

    I see 20 cases have been ‘settled.’    I assumed all of them would be settled,

    but 3 or 4 are still on the way to trial.

    WV, Have you seen current players shoot the “step back three”? James Hardin made it famous, but it pisses me off no matter who does it. Curry sometimes will. It’s obviously traveling, IMO, and refs never should have allowed it, but it’s now a part of the game. To me, it’s basically taking four steps and then shooting. The above may sound like “get off my lawn” stuff. But I can’t help it. Cuz, well, back in my day, players didn’t even have feet, so they couldn’t shoot threes, much less step-back threes. ;>)

    ==

    No, havent seen the step back three.   I dont even watch NBA highlights.

    I always think players are traveling.  Apparently, I dont understand the rule.

    Things do fall apart, dont they.

    But we managed to see another Super Bowl win.   Wasnt sure we’d ever see another one.    I’ve seen two now.   Two in one lifetime   🙂

    I agree about the 9ers. I think the Cowboys and Eagles have more to prove than the 9ers do. And of all of the top teams mentioned, I think the Packers are the only team that clearly got worse. I think doubts about Trey Lance prevent me from ranking them #1, but I don’t think I would place them lower than #3. I dislike rankings anyway, and tend to think in “tiers,” but I would put SF in the top tier of teams.

    ==

    I think the Saints and Vikings could put it all together,

    but who knows.

    I keep seeing lists like this.   And there’s no 49ers anywhere on these two men’s lists.   Cardinals, but no 49ers.    Astonishes me.

    In wv-brain, the 49ers might be the NFC favorites, assuming they have Deebo.

    We have relatives in the Bay area. The ONLY thing the recall showed was that even progressive voters can have enough of being afraid to walk their favorite streets downtown. The “City” is a place where people walk to places and it used to be fun and enjoyable. Now-not so much. Whether the D.A. was partly responsible is an open debate but people -progressives included-wanted a change.

    Jordan R is awfully good at her job.

    High praise from Kupp.  Thats not just ordinary sports-BS and cliches he’s giving.   That mcvay-trait Kupp is describing was critical last year.

    I dont like hearing that cash-rich football owners have an advantage.   Even if its a slight advantage.    Shouldnt be that way.

    I hope the NFL doesnt drift towards the travesty that MLB became.

    Its an interesting topic.  Ive thought about it a lot, but other than winning Super Bowls, I cant think of too many similarities.   They just seem really different to me.

    For starters the DV the Rams got was old-and-wise.  As well as old-and-out-of-touch at the beginning.   He’d been away from the NFL for a long time.

    McVay was the youngest kid-coach in the NFL.  He was more like that early Eagle-version of DV.

    I guess my broad takeaway is a championship coach can come in many flavors,

    and they can build a championship team in different ways.

    As an aside, I remember well, how the fine defense DV built, utterly fell apart due to age and injuries the year after the Super Bowl win.   I dont remember any of us predicting that would happen.  I mean, they were atrocious.

    (remember they gave up 54 to the Chiefs mid-season

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000_St._Louis_Rams_season#:~:text=The%202000%20season%20was%20the%20St.%20Louis%20Rams%27,first%20team%20in%20NFL%20history%20to%20score%20

    It will be interesting to see how McVay does post super bowl.   It will take a helluva coaching job to get them back to the final 4.

    Wagner is in the early stages of his Rams tenure, but he already sees major differences between Seattle’s scheme and Los Angeles’ approach… Everybody knew it was Cover 3 and we were in the mindset – maybe kind of cocky a little bit – that we were going to line up and we were going to make you beat us..

    ==

    Well, plenty of great coaches have used the simple ‘execution’ approach, if i can call it that.  Lombardi.  Maybe Martz.  Etc.

    It can work.  I mean the Legion of Boom was awesome.  One of the best ever.

    But maybe Pete’s success with that outfit made him think ‘any’ group can play that well with good coaching, etc.

    I dunno.   …IF i had players with high-Football-IQs or instincts or whatever you wanna call it, I think it would be a waste not to ‘use’ their intellectual talents.   IF they can master the tricky-ness of defensive audibles and stuff then it seems like a flaw if you dont use a tricky defense.   Maybe.

    I think based on his body of work, McVay gets to be called an elite coach at this point.  (i hate the word ‘genius’ for some reason)

    But it sure seems like Snead and McVay are what is working.   That combo of personnel strategy and the coaching scheme/leadership.

    I mean, it helps to become an elite coach if you have Vonn Miller, OBJ, Jalen, Aaron Donald, Matt Stafford, Kupp, Woods, Whitworth…Hecker.

    The media’s ‘great man’ theory of the NFL only goes so far.

    I tell ya, some of these memes, theze days, are so god-dam-good

    they wanna make me cry/laugh on a deep level.    Such good work out there on the internets.

    …btw, I have reached the point where i no longer even check in on the mass shootings.   They are so common now, I just nod, and go on with my day.

    I’m not saying my reaction is good (or bad), just noting it — Another shooting.  Ok.  Its a late-stage-capitalist hellscape.  Of course there are shootings.   And the response will be – the people will buy more guns, the gun manufacturers will make more money, the ‘security companies’ will make more money, the rich will build more gates and separate themselves even more, and the government will spend more on capitalist-police.

    And so it goes.

    Either way, the 9ers should not be ranked at 24. IMO, they are closer to #10 than they are to #24. But let’s just tee it up, and find out.

    ===

    IF Mr Lance is even a mild upgrade, I’d put them in the top 3.   Its just impossible to know what he is right now.

    I’d like it if the 49ers were a top team, when the rams took their souls

    and dumped their bodies in burgundy and gold body-bags.

    Yeah. They are better than that, even if they go with Trey Lance, and he isn’t any good.

    ==

    Well, they still have Jimmy G, and who knows, they might keep him as insurance.

    At any rate, the Trey Lance thing is interesting.   The media have practically all decided he is a bust.   Based on a few hints here and there about him ‘not being ready.’    I dunno.   What if he ‘is’ an upgrade over Jimmy G?   Imagine that beastly 49er team we saw last year, with a slight upgrade at QB.

    The 49ers are a kind of wild-card.   All depends on Trey.
