November 26, 2014 at 6:58 am in reply to: RGIII: Great QBs don't play well if teammates don't #12541WinnbradParticipant
Washington is a mess. I don’t know if the Rams would even look at RG3 for anything more than a 6th. But Snyder has proven he doesn’t know football, so anything is possible.
November 25, 2014 at 2:03 pm in reply to: Happy-Holiday – what are you eating?..schadenfreude pie.. #12499WinnbradParticipantI’m visiting my brother and his “foodie” friends. So I’ll be eating for about 8 hours, then passing out. Whatever the foodies make, will be delicious, I’m sure.
WinnbradParticipantI hope McCleod keeps “making statements”.
WinnbradParticipantMagnificent. I am loving this D. If they can continue to understand their roles, and snot knock people (without the flags) we could be on to something.
WinnbradParticipantSlowly but surely, this team keeps getting better, adding talent, and depth.
Now if we could just settle the QB situation.
WinnbradParticipantAgreed. They are flying around the field, and to the ball. Every now and then, they screw up a coverage, but man are they hitting people. Much better tackling, all around.
WinnbradParticipantWhat I have heard is more and more from Fisher about how much Quinn is being held. Fisher said that right now, the officials aren’t looking for that hold call on the outside, and they need to start paying attention to it. He says that Quinn is held much of the game, and it takes away from what the Rams are trying to do on defense (obviously). I wonder if we’ll start getting a few more calls in upcoming games.
Fisher should be screaming about it. It is not only frequent, it’s blatant. Go back and watch the game. Denver’s RT could have been flagged for holding at least a dozen times. Headlocks, clotheslines, grabbing the helmet, grabbing the inside of Quinn’s shoulder pads… Gotta give the guy credit, he used every hold available.
The Rams need to make this official and contact the league. I know they can’t publicly complain about officiating, but when it’s that flagrant it has to be addressed, somehow.
If I weren’t so damn lazy, I’d put together some gifs of the holds JUST from the Denver game.
Poor Quinn…
WinnbradParticipantI expect Rivers to get hit early and often. I hope they start hitting him when he gets off the bus.
The Rams, “West Coast Defense” is looking pretty good lately. 🙂
WinnbradParticipantThis D reminds me of the 2009 Saints D. It’s got William’s fingerprints all over it.
I hope the hitting continues. And the players seem to finally understand their responsibilities as the play unfolds. I only saw one major breakdown on Sunday. A few small ones, but they’re human, that’s gonna happen.
The safeties are stepping up, and flying around the field.
Go get’em.
WinnbradParticipantSounds like a great idea to me. Keep Bradford, Hill, and Davis.
WinnbradParticipant6. Speaking of the Rams’ pass rush, it was amazing that Ryan Clady only got called for one holding penalty. He played the same way that Russell Okung of Seattle does, consistently grabbing Quinn around the collarbone and neck and dragging him down. How that isn’t a hold is beyond me, but the league does a great job of protecting Manning and Russell Wilson.
That has bugged me all year, the holding of Quinn. I just went back and watched the game this morning. Clady could have gotten double digit holding calls. He literally dragged Quinn to the ground a couple of times. He also clotheslined him, and on one play wrapped his hand and forearm around the front of Quinn’s helmet. No call.
Go back and watch it. It’s right there on tape.
The league sees all of that on their weekly review of the officials. I can watch a replay of the game and see it over and over. My first conclusion is to assume that the league doesn’t care. They’re gonna protect QBs as much as they can, and holding calls be damned.
The first holding call against Clady came early in the game. I think on Denver’s first drive. That was the “warning shot” to Clady. After that, though, the officials allowed Clady to hold for the rest of the game.
WinnbradParticipantHe looked tired, whiny, and aggravated.
Good. 🙂
WinnbradParticipantIt’s on here (Richmond, VA). Nice. For awhile…
WinnbradParticipantI would not trade up him for him. Either then, or now.
Drafting him didn’t bother me. However, trading up for him wasn’t the best idea. The Rams still had a lot of weak spots on the team.
Bad teams should never trade up.
November 12, 2014 at 6:54 pm in reply to: Does anyone here believe we can beat Denver on Sunday? #11733WinnbradParticipantSwitch Peyton to the Rams
and Hill to Denver — Think
the rams would win? Yes? No?Is it all about the difference
in QB ?w
Yes. If Peyton gets an off season with the Rams WRs. Sure. Peyton could win 11 games with this team, imo. Probably more.
It’s a QB only league. You don’t have to have a great one, but ya damn sure need a good one.
WinnbradParticipantAfter this season i hope they
upgrade the QB position enough
so AustinD does not make the team.w
vThe team has been doing just that, upgrading positions, for 3 years, so I’m hoping that continues at QB. But QB is a tougher row to hoe.
They cut Davis once, I’m sure they’ll cut him again if they think they have anyone better. But that’s the tough part.
WinnbradParticipantHill is better than Davis.
And better than Brock and Banks.
Agreed. But that’s a low bar, bro. 🙂
Anyway, Hill is worth a shot, just to see if he can not lose a game. Winning seems far-fetched at this point.
They may stick with Austin, they may not. The kid has played hard, but erratically. He’s a 3rd string rookie, so I’m not too worried about it. There’s a reason the team cut him, last year. I think we’re seeing some of those reasons, now.
Anywho, onward and upward, I hope. The team is better, overall, than it has been in years. Now they just need a QB that can at least manage a game and not give it away. I think RFL called it “QB Hell”. That’s apt. It’s a QB only league these days.
WinnbradParticipantWe’re one decent QB away. Slowly, but surely, this team continues to improve.
Now if we can keep the good players at a reasonable cap hit, and let the bad ones walk, we’re good.
Every year the talent on this team gets better, and deeper.
Keep on rolling, dudes.
November 10, 2014 at 6:55 am in reply to: combined "today's game" & "arizona game lamentations" threads #11541WinnbradParticipantsilver lining?
I think the silver lining is that this team is only a legit qb from being a real contender.
Yep.
WinnbradParticipantI will predict that the Rams lose in a blowout.
Hey, it worked last week.
Yeah. I’m with Zooey. Rams lose 60 – 2.
Whatever works.
WinnbradParticipantWell, i think he’s right and wrong.
Cause what i see out of the Rams D
is a continuous display of good plays
(not just ‘ok’ plays, but ‘good’)
followed by bonehead-awful plays. And that is a different animal
than a defense that just constantly
gets outmuscled or outplayed
play after play. The D is not ‘just’ ‘bad’.
Its good ‘and’ bad.
Its weird.Unfortunately it amounts to the same
thing in the short term — losses. There’s hope for the longterm though.
I think.w
vYeah. Agreed. This D has “potential”. Maybe even enough to be a top D.
Sigh… I don’t know. The O has to help, though. No turnovers, no penalties. This D can’t handle being on the field a lot. 3 and outs on the O really hurt’em. It’s only a matter of time, every single game, before the D has a collapse or two.
Let’s see what happens today.
WinnbradParticipantDid the D finally click, or, is this just the most wildly inconsistent Rams team, like, ever.
I’m going with, “wildly inconsistent”.
WinnbradParticipantHmmm… not sure how I feel about that one. I’ve seen fines for less. No flag, no fine. Interesting.
I’d love to know what Mike Pereira has to say about that. I follow him on twitter. He’s even responded to some of my rules questions before. Nice guy.
WinnbradParticipantCan Davis rebound?
I don’t know. For an undrafted, 3rd string, rookie, he’s doing pretty well.
Heck, he’s helped the team win 3 games. I wonder how many games Seattle or SF would have won with their 3rd string QB playing every game this season?
Davis is doing most of the stupid stuff every rookie QB does. I think the question is the one several people have already commented on – can Davis improve, or is this his ceiling?
I think it’s way too soon to make any kind of final decision about Davis. He is so raw. I just have no idea what he’s going to be.
It’s interesting.
WinnbradParticipantI have no idea. The Rams, seemingly, are 10 different teams rolled into one.
If these Rams were a movie, they’d be “Sybil”.
So I don’t know what the hell is gonna happen anymore.
WinnbradParticipantAwesome! I wish this had a “like” button. 🙂
WinnbradParticipantWinnbrad wrote:
Kap is still a “one read and run” QB.It’s funny isn’t it that Alex Smith is programmed to perform well against the Rams D and Kap isn’t.
LOL! Oh I don’t know. I know I like that movie.
Kap did well the first time against this D, then looked like crap, yesterday.
I didn’t think Alex Smith would shred this D the way he did, but sometimes this D looks like they have no idea what they’re doing.
And I still don’t like all of the blitzing.
I’m just picky.
WinnbradParticipantI don’t know. I think Kap is still a “one read and run” QB. I don’t know if he’s smart enough to ever be more than that. I think he really struggles with reads.
Either way, the Rams got pressure. It worked. They pressured the QB and they stopped the run.
WinnbradParticipantThey got blown out on the road. It happens. The Rams were never going to win this game. They’re not smart enough to win this game.
WinnbradParticipantAn ill wind blows in KC.
