I don’t know. I don’t think Fisher is terrible. That’s a strong word for a coach that’s been around this many years and has had some success.
I think Fisher still underestimates the “new” league. He doesn’t seem to get the importance of good QB play and good WRs. This is a QB ONLY league now. A team has to have a good one. Even Seattle’s D, which has been great for a few years, wouldn’t go far without the solid playmaking ability of Wilson.
The one good QB Fisher had was Steve McNair, and he wasn’t great, but he was good enough. Coupled with a great running game and a good D, Fisher had success.
So unless we can find our own version of McNair we’re gonna remain a .500 team, imo.
March 5, 2016 at 4:29 pm in reply to: informal poll—the Rams will draft a qb? sign one? wuttz yer vott? #40032WinnbradParticipantTo be honest, I think they do better than 7-9 if Keenum played all year. He’s clearly not a franchise qb type, but, he has enough I think for them to win more often than not, provided they have a top defense and a running game.
I don’t disagree with that, but this defense is pretty good, and could be one of the best. Unfortunately, the offense is the defense’s biggest problem.
Keenum, imo, is at best “serviceable”. But man that’s a low bar.
We don’t need a pro bowl QB. We barely need a good QB. Just a decent one would take this team to the next level.
Unfortunately, I have no idea how the Rams can get one.
March 5, 2016 at 1:46 pm in reply to: informal poll—the Rams will draft a qb? sign one? wuttz yer vott? #40025WinnbradParticipantAll of the above and then some. We’ve reached a point, imo, where the Rams need to sling a lot of shit, and money, on the wall, and see what sticks.
Keenum and Foles is not the way to start the season. We’ve seen that show. It ends at 7-9.
March 5, 2016 at 7:40 am in reply to: Jon Gruden's QB Camp w/ Case Keenum 2012 (has morphed into "the keenum thread") #40008WinnbradParticipantAs the process continues, it is looking more and more as if the Rams won’t draft a QB, at least not in the first round. imo
I see it different. I think they will draft one high, and yes maybe even in the 1st round depending on who is there.
Well I hope you’re right, ZN. We can’t have another “placeholder” at QB. If we do, we’re 7-9, again.
I say draft a QB high. Bring in some FA’s. Sign people off the street. Make trades. Whatever it takes.
This team has a D and a good running back. A QB gives us a shot at the playoffs. Even an avg QB gives us a shot.
February 28, 2016 at 5:47 pm in reply to: Jenkins fires his agent…but? (4/8) …may stay with Rams? #39759WinnbradParticipantI dunno how this works.
But if Jenkins gets franchised, what’s the point in having an agent? He’d be paying a large chunk of money to somebody for nothing, basically.
Players aren’t required to have agents, are they?
Nope.
February 28, 2016 at 5:15 pm in reply to: Jenkins fires his agent…but? (4/8) …may stay with Rams? #39758WinnbradParticipantSooo… how’s EJ Gaines recovery looking?
WinnbradParticipantOK, so how good is Kap at this point?
I don’t know. I’m wondering if he’s any better than Foles or Keenum? That’s a low bar, but still…
WinnbradParticipantGood. And good riddance. The Rams FO should be focused only finding a good QB. Without one, we’re .500 or below, again.
January 31, 2016 at 6:25 pm in reply to: have the Rams drafted well? Below average, average, good, very good? #38426WinnbradParticipantI think the Rams have drafted really well under Fisher/Snead. Unfortunately, there is one position that is an exception. And that exception involves the most important player on the field.
WinnbradParticipantI think the D is solid everywhere, including Williams. What would really help this D is an offense that can move the chains. The Rams O is dead last (or close to it) in almost every meaningful category. The D stays under a lot of pressure.
WinnbradParticipantDoes it really matter who the OC is, when we don’t have a QB? I mean, there’s only so much they can do with this offense.
WinnbradParticipantWith a better QB, I think the WR “problem” solves itself.
Although, I wouldn’t turn down better WRs. Look at what Fitzpatrick has done in NY with Decker and Marshall.
WinnbradParticipantThe question I ask myself… is he better than what we have? Well, he’s certainly not worse.
The bar is extremely low for the QB position in St Louis. Anybody that can come in and make us better, even a little, at that position would be a help.
This team ranks last, or nearly last, in every passing category, and in most of the important categories on offense (excluding rushing). That starts with the QB.
I think every option should be on the table in regards to upgrading the QB position. Cuz right now, we stink.
WinnbradParticipantsure. why not?
at the very least that running game with gurley, austin, and kaepernick would be confusing to defend i’d imagine.
Agreed. I say bring in Kap. Bring in everybody. We have nothing to lose at the QB position.
WinnbradParticipantunfortunately this isn’t the best year to be drafting a qb.
Apparently, every year is a bad year for the Rams to draft a QB.
So let’s not break the streak this year. Draft at least 4 of them. We’ve proven we can’t draft quality, so let’s go for quantity.
WinnbradParticipantWho’s all-in for Kirk Cousins? The line starts behind me.
At this point, he’s worth a shot. Everyone is worth a shot.
I want to see at least 10 QBs in camp next summer. I just made up that number. But whatever.
WinnbradParticipantWell they have that extra 2nd rounder from Philly,
so maybe they package it with their no.1 and
move up a little to get a QB. I dunno.I would have liked to have seen more of Mannion
‘before’ the draft.w
vAt this point, the Rams should be willing to “mortgage the farm” to get a QB.
It doesn’t do any good to have a good team if they don’t have a decent QB.
I say do whatever it takes.
Draft every QB available. Have a cage death match. Whatever.
WinnbradParticipantWell, we have the unknown in Mannion — that’s one.
We have the journeyman in Keenum — that’s two.
We should never ever ever use Foles again — that’s two.So for the third we have to either (a) draft one high and hedge our Mannion bet, or (b) sign one to a ton of money and compromise the overall strength of the team. You can probably part ways with Chris Long and his contract, or James Laurinaitis and his, to make room for a free agent guy. Like Stafford if he were to actually become available.
You forgot Hekker. He could be our Danny White!
WinnbradParticipantThey either show up looking for a street fight, or a nap. We’ve seen this team do both.
Rodgers and Lacy will bury this team if the Rams are even a tiny bit flat.
WinnbradParticipantI hope Gurley turns out to be all he’s hyped to be. We need playmakers on offense, and we need’em bad.
It’ll be interesting to see how good this offense is if their first string QB stays healthy all year.
WinnbradParticipantIt gets worse…
Seahawks – 50/50
at Washington – should be a win
Steelers – 50/50
at Cardinals – loss
at Green Bay – loss
Bye WeekIf the Rams are 3-2 at the bye I’ll be thrilled. There’s no way this team wins in Arizona and Green Bay. IMO they gotta start the season 3-0 to have any real shot at the playoffs.
The good news is, after the bye, the Rams have Cleveland and Frisco in St Louis. They could win both of those.
The bad news is they still have 5 road games after that. And so far, under Fisher, the Rams have not proven to be a good road team. They’re one of the worst, actually.
The remaining schedule after home games against Cleveland and San Fran. I can’t see the Rams winning any of these road games.

WinnbradParticipantSweeeeeeet. Thank you!
What’s your early prediction on the Rams at this point, w?
I think we either have a QB or we don’t. If Foles plays well, and stays healthy, this team can win 10. That’s a playoff shot.
The rest of the team is good enough.
It all comes down to the QB. The Rams won 6 games last year with second and third string QBs. Most teams wouldn’t win 4 in that situation, imo.
WinnbradParticipantSweeeeeeet. Thank you!
June 5, 2015 at 4:18 pm in reply to: This could definitely be the best defense in NFL in 2015 #25887WinnbradParticipantDepends on the offense. If they can move the chains, and avg just a few more points per game, then sure, this D could be one of the best.
But they won’t be the best. They’re not that good.
If Foles plays well, the WRs step up, Quick stays healthy, Bailey gets his head out of his ass and doesn’t get suspended, and the running game is decent, and they don’t turn the ball over, then ok, we’ve got ourselves a Defense. 🙂
WinnbradParticipantThe center, and right side of that o-line, is not inspiring me.
March 23, 2015 at 6:45 am in reply to: Kroenke ready to show detailed stadium plans … plus other relocation things #21281WinnbradParticipantIMO, Stan is moving this team to LA. I don’t know how long that process will take, or how he’ll do it, but it’s happening.
The NFL has no credibility at all on this issue. They have power, of course, but they haven’t had a team in LA in 20 years. Then along comes Stan, and now the rest of the owners are pitching in their 2 cents worth on every scrap of info that leaks or gets released.
I, personally, don’t care where the Rams play. But I think Stan does. And he seems to be a rather shrewd fellow.
March 21, 2015 at 12:52 pm in reply to: How do people feel about Foles right now, before anything else happens? #21199WinnbradParticipantYeah, I’m optimistic about Foles. If he starts and wins one game, that’s more games than Bradford won last year.
So again, it’s another low bar to clear for us Rams fans! Woohoo!
WinnbradParticipantCB is a need, but OLine is a
Make-Or-Break-Need.w
vYep. A good OLine and a healthy QB, heck, the Rams might make the playoffs.
March 20, 2015 at 8:45 am in reply to: OL in free agency … Barksdale, Blalock, Wisniewski, etc. #21112WinnbradParticipantYou do have to wonder why Oakland let him walk and spent a lot of money on a different center.
From what I read, Oakland felt he didn’t develop into the elite center they wanted. Hudson was available, and Oak has tons of cap space, so they went with Hudson. The rumor is Oak wanted Wiz to stay on the team as a backup Center/starting Guard. Wiz said, “no”, and decided to test FA.
$5 million is too much for Wiz. Maybe his market will stay ice cold, and the Rams get a bargain.
Wiz is far better than Scott Wells. Then again, anyone that can stay healthy is better than Wells.
