I have only seen highlights of the last couple of years of Buffalo games, but from what I have seen, Tyrod Taylor scrambles often. Either he holds the ball too long or he runs away from pressure, but some of their pass plays look like fire drills, forcing the receivers break their routes and work back to him. Taylor is slippery and this works to his advantage sometimes, but I am hoping that a healthy and improved OL, more play action and the threat of a much better run game will allow Watkins, Woods, Everett, Kupp, etc… to run their routes and be open by design.
snowmanParticipantI watched the first 30 minutes of Jimmy Fallon and the Tonight Show last night. Billy Crystal was the first guest, and he brought up Trump’s ratings saying this was a problem for the Administration. He said Trump’s approval rating is at 38% and the Zika virus is at 40%.
rimshot.
snowmanParticipantSo where does that leave us? Well, the possibility we’re really focused on is Minneapolis, MN. HUGE change from what we’re used to in Tampa, but we’re not only ready to be done with the humidity and constant heat (the nights here when I pick up my son from work at 11 pm are about 86 degrees with about 90% humidity. That’s at 11 pm, dammit!
So, obviously, with such a drastic potential change (still so many details to address to see if this is even viable), there are so many questions, especially about living in a very northern climate. We lived in Easton and Allentown, PA for 3.5 years so the adults have a clue about living in winter and my mom had to make several business trips to Minneapolis over the course of winter a few years ago (October to February), so she’s familiar with the area, a little and what Feb feels like in MN.
That said, living is a complicated thing. I mean in the 9 years we’ve lived in Florida, I’ve learned SO MUCH about living in a tropical climate that I had no clue about coming from the arid climate of SoCal.
So… is anyone from Minnesota? Can anyone give advice moving to a cold climate?
Mackeyser, small world! I live in Inver Grove Heights, MN now and I lived in Allentown, PA for about eight years. IGH is a suburb of Saint Paul, so I am here in the Twin Cities where you might resettle.
The VA Hospital is in southeast Minneapolis, very close to the MSP Airport. Sounds like you have researched the VA Hospital here, but in case you need a web link and phone numbers, here it is: Mpls VA The Minneapolis VA Hospital is on the Blue Line LRT, connecting downtown Minneapolis to the MSP Airport and Mall of America. Lots of other stops in between and lots of criss-crossing bus routes.
Adding to what ER said, the winters here are not as bad as they used to be, but it does last a solid four months here. Starts around Thanksgiving and lasts through March. We do not get as much snow (maybe 50 inches per year) or the prolonged below zero cold temps, but it’s still cold and it is often windy. When we get snow, it tends to stay around a while because the high temps may not get above freezing for several days. Minnesota Dept of Transportation is pretty good about plowing the state highways, the cities and counties less so. Gotta have a good snow brush/ice scraper for the car. We have a fairly large Somali and Hmong population here and they seem to have acclimated to the climate here.
Lots of winter activities in and around the Twin Cities. Several golf courses become cross country skiing trails, there is a new curling club north of the cities; Olympic teams from around the world train there. Winter Carnival in Saint Paul. All four major pro sports teams here plus pro soccer and new stadium (maybe) coming to Saint Paul. Lots of opportunities for continuing education, if you are looking for that; the University of Minnesota is in Minneapolis and there are several small private colleges in Saint Paul.
When looking for a home, be sure it has double pane windows and good insulation. An attached garage is also a big plus so you don’t have to go outside to get to your car, and the garage will be warmer than the outside. Being close to public transportation is also a plus in my book. Crime is an issue but mostly confined to north Minneapolis; that’s the only area where I do not recommend looking for a home. The Twin Cities is a big region; you can live in an urban area, suburbs or rural areas not more than 15 miles from both downtowns. Lots of locals have cabins in Wisconsin; many retired residents spend part of the winter in Florida or the desert to avoid winter here.
The Twin Cities is a very good place to live, despite the climate. Please let me know if you would like my help in researching a certain area of the Twin Cities.

snowmanParticipantGoff, the Rams’ 2016 No. 1 overall pick, clearly is the starter, and Mannion, who spent last season as the Rams’ No. 3 quarterback, has been expected to back up Goff in 2017. That will sort itself out in training camp, which opens at UC Irvine next week.
I sure hope that Mannion is the backup to Goff while Orlovsky is the practice mentor and 3rd QB. I think Mannion has talent and it would be shame for him to languish behind a 34 year old guy.

snowmanParticipantThat was my Saturday afternoon. Went into the garage to get a wrench to tighten a loose arm on my recliner, saw the bag of Japanese beetle killer-stuff, grabbed the bag and walked into the back yard to spread that around my birch tree, realized the outdoor hanging plants needed water, so I went back into the house for a pitcher and realized I needed a wrench for something.
My wife thinks I’m becoming forgetful to the point of occasionally needing supervision. Maybe tomorrow I will try to leave for work in my pajamas just to see if she’s paying attention.

All they have are top ten lists that don’t matter and a lot of uninformed speculation about this and that. I would rather watch reruns of Texas Flip ‘n Move. I might learn how to re-purpose shiplap.

Donald frustrated waiting for new deal from Rams Josina Anderson explains why DT Aaron Donald is underpaid and running out of patience with L.A..
I watched the clip and I can’t tell if what they say is true. Has Donald or his agent expressed frustration and said they are running out of patience, or is this created by a B-squad football talk show in July with nothing better to do?
snowmanParticipantI wish the Rams had a second year option on Barwin. I think he will have a good, not spectacular, season if he stays healthy. Not sure what we have in the young LBs, it would be nice to have Barwin under contract for two years and give the young guys more time to learn.
snowmanParticipantIf they cannot trade him, it looks like Tru will sign elsewhere for 2018. We get a comp draft pick and draft his replacement. Not with the comp pick, but likely in the first three rounds.

snowmanParticipantfrom the Washington Times:ossof loses
ROSWELL, Georgia — Republican Karen Handel did something Tuesday that her Democratic rival Jon Ossoff could not do in their runoff race in the 6th Congressional District: she voted.
Mrs. Handel cast her vote at the St. Mary’s Orthodox Church and was more than happy to remind members of the press that she has lived in the district for decades and that Mr. Ossoff lives outside it.
“Everybody should watch me put on my ‘I voted sticker’ since my opponent can’t do that today,” she said on her way back to her car. “I have lived her for 25 years and I think that is going to make a big difference with voters in this district.”
As she spoke, a horde of Ossoff cheered “flip the 6th” near the entrance to the church. Not sure I would vote for someone who did not live in my district. Not sure how someone could run for office living outside the district he/she would represent. Not sure how democrats cannot find a credible candidate within the district. Not sure about a lot of things.

June 7, 2017 at 2:16 pm in reply to: Would a Tavon Austin for Eric Decker trade make sense for Rams, Jets? #69788snowmanParticipantThis one’s easy. Simple answer: no.
Rams take an impossible cap hit if they trade Tavon. If you add it up it’s more than 16 M. On top of it you add Decker’s 7+ M. So combined that’s more than a 23 M cap hit.
Decker is not all that and Woods provides the same things IMO.
Jack—the Rams are done picking up people, unless it’s a low level cut or bargain free agent. They have to extend Tru and AD AND THEN Ogletree, and are tight against the 2017 cap as it is.
And frankly there’s no one worth that much trouble out there.
It’s a ‘no’ IMO too, mainly because of the salary cap issue. It’s just not doable for either team. And his age, he turned 30 in March.
I doubt that any team trades for Decker because of his salary, but I think teams will compete to sign him if and when the Jets release him.
I wonder where Cooper, Marquez and Thomas fit into McVay’s plans. They were on the roster when he was hired …
snowmanParticipantYou shone like the sun…
53 today. I really miss 23.
Happy Belated Birthday TSRF!
I hope you had a great birthday and became comfortably numb to turning 53.
FWIW, I got you by 3 1/2 years.

I was joking. It was supposed to be, Aaron Donald was not happy not drafting Ethan Pocic or Pat Elflein. Need to work on my sense of humor, a little more.
I was joking too buddy. It’s all good.

May 23, 2017 at 10:07 am in reply to: Donald not at OTAs…now morphed into, do you pay Donald & how much thread #69194snowmanParticipantOh great. Donald’s absence obviously means he wants to be traded. It couldn’t mean anything but that.
Hopefully the Rams can capitalize on this and come out ahead like they did when they traded Dickerson and Bettis.
Like a special prosecutor, maybe the Rams will bring back Jay Zygmunt to negotiate with Donald. What could go wrong?
snowmanParticipantLOVE ‘Time Bandits’ !

snowmanParticipantThe horns are too skinny and they are not real. Real horns would look really cool and probably reduce the likelihood of getting a concussion.
So, real horns = cool and safer.
snowmanParticipantFound this, Rams helmets through history!
snowmanParticipantLuv’n the new helmets.
Me too, but I wish they would make the horns a little bigger, bolder.
snowmanParticipantI’m looking forward to hearing how this draft class looks in training camp. And I really appreciate Lombardi’s comment about all the post-draft critique.
snowmanParticipantI liked it. They addressed the need at skill positions on offense, they addressed to secondary with all the contracts ending after next season and I like the way they traded up and down. I kind of realized they were not drafting a center after the fourth round ended, and that’s Ok. I would guess that many pro centers played some guard in college. No big name players, but when your first pick is scheduled at #37 they are long gone.
April 27, 2017 at 5:23 pm in reply to: Saints would trade 2nd round pick for Johnson but Tru unwilling to leave LA #67870snowmanParticipantTru was tagged twice, so the Rams clearly want him. If Tru wants a long term deal to stay in LA like he says he does, why has it been so hard to do? Maybe he gets traded during the draft?
snowmanParticipantI will be in and out, watching on NFL Network since I cannot stand Mel Kiper’s face. I will pay attention to the picks, who’s left and any trades but I will leave during the long and repetitive personal interest stories.
snowmanParticipant<span class=”d4pbbc-font-color” style=”color: blue”>I am drafting CBs this year. Maybe I sign Johnson, maybe I don’t.</span>
Yup. Rams draft a couple of DBs and Tru loses some bargaining power. For the Rams it could come down to a choice between re-signing Tru to a big contract vs. drafting someone like Adoree Jackson and getting a comp pick for Tru when he goes elsewhere next off season.
