    walter football Rams visits

In case a list of draft prospect visits with the Rams has not published here, I pulled it from Walter Football and pasted it below. This was the only site that had an orderly list of draft prospects who visited NFL teams.

I don’t know if this list is complete or accurate, but it more or less matches what I saw on Turf Show Times, though this was much more user-friendly to cut and paste. I assume too that the Rams will draft about half of their new players from this list.

This is a compilation of draft prospect visits sorted by prospect. The data was acquired via Charlie Campbell (@draftcampbell) and other media sources.

The Rams will ruin my brother-in-law’s birthday when they beat the Vikings on September 27.

Glad to see so many games on national TV; means I can follow them so much more this year.

Green Bay Packers picks since 2012

    2012: none

    2013: none

2014: DT Khryi Thornton: Never played for GB, was waived in Sep 2015, signed by Detroit and played 23 games with 6 starts. Currently without a team and under 10 game suspension for PEDs.

2014: TE Richard Rodgers. 63 games played with 24 starts. Signed with Philadelphia a few weeks ago.

2015: WR Ty Montgomery. 29 games played, 14 starts, most or all of them at running back.

2016: LB Kyle Fackrell. 29 games played with 2 starts.

2017: DT Montravious Adams. 7 games played, zero starts.

Green Bay Packers: One out of five, Rodgers, although the Pack was always looking for someone more consistent and talented. I did not count Montgomery because he was thrust into a starting role due to emergency at a different position than he was drafted.

Interesting exercise; I will do the two Midwestern teams around me.

    Vikings picks since 2012
2012: DB Josh Robinson. Four years in MN with 47 games played and 21 starts; currently with Tampa, two years and 27 games with no starts.

    2013: none

2014: DE Scott Crichton. 18 games played, zero starts, currently a FA.

2015: DE Danielle Hunter. 26 games played, 17 starts including all 16 games in 2017.

    2016: none

2017: C Pat Elflein. 14 games played, 14 starts. Moved right into the starting center job but was injured toward the end of the season.

MN Vikings: two out of four. Robinson started off and on while in Minnesota, but didn’t get a second contract and is a backup in Tampa now. Hasn’t started a game since 2014.

Seems like we have always had good kickers and punters. Was Jake McQuaide the long snapper then?

Too bad, I thought he was a very good pick up and a really good fit in Wade’s defense.

#23 and other picks back and forth with New England for Brandin Cooks. zn posted about how the Rams tried to get Cooks over a year ago, and then talked with Belichick at a college pro day recently. Patriots stuck to their guns and got the picks they wanted. I guess our first round pick was never going to be used by us, that’s why they had only one private visit with first round prospect.

Going to be a boring draft for Rams fans. I wish Cooks was two inches taller and 10 pounds heavier, and just as fast.

zn, thanks for posting the college visits list, I was looking for that.

I see only one likely first round pick on that list; Vita Vea. I know the list is incomplete right now, but only one? That’s odd. I would think the team wants to have a private visit with the kid they take at #23.

This could be a lot of fun to watch. Maybe Brockers, Donald and Suh will shift positions pre-snap and drive opposing qbs crazy.

The interest in Crosby suggests the Rams will seek a trade down. I can’t see a player like Crosby lasting until round 3. He was the Pac-12 o-lineman of the year & had solid numbers at the combine.

Crosby, in fact, sounds a lot like Whitworth–big, physical tackles who had good college careers but were viewed as sub-par athletes for the position. Whitworth played guard his first two years in the league.

I’m ok with any trade down as long as it nets us at least another third round pick. Fourth round and later, it’s really hard to find potential starters. Depth maybe.

Someone like Crosby could be a rotational guy for one year, then find a home at ROT and move Hav back to guard after re signing him. Or e could be our LOT after Whit retires. He could stay at guard too. Versatile.

I’m a little surprised the old NFL didnt evolve like the old NHL. Ya know. Where flatout fist-fights break out. Ya know. The helmets get thrown down, the other players circle around, and the two just go at it.

I don’t think we need a receiver with his level of skills. Weird to say that, but I think we will be fine if Gurley, Woods and Kupp repeat or improve on last season, the tight ends get more involved in the offense and Reynolds/Cooper play regularly. It’s a lot of “ifs” and I would have preferred to have Watkins back or sign Jordy Nelson, but oh well.

I am excited to watch this defense. Invader, I also think the Rams should draft a LOT in the first round and look for linebackers later in the draft.

Goff is our biggest asset on offense and I am also concerned about who is going to protect his blind side after Whitworth rides off into the sunset. In a pinch, we can start Easley, Brockers and Donald on defense with someone else on the outside, maybe Littleton or Fox or Longacre. I would not be upset if the Rams drafted an OT at #23. It would be like filling a hole before it gets to be a hole.

Not sure how many teams run a 3-4 defense and how much demand that places on edge rushers and nose tackles. Maybe there is less competition for those kind of players that fit our defensive scheme and we can find good prospects in the third, fourth and fifth rounds. Could use those 6th rounders to move up if needed.

The thought of Suh signing with the Rams makes me feel apprehensive, not excited. Too many things could go wrong.

I am glad that we are likely to get two high comp picks for Watkins and Tru, plus two late comp picks for Carrier and Davis. Carrier was basically a one year rental and we get the pick back.

I am kind of surprised we did not sign one free agent other than our own. Really thought we would get the Denver linebacker, but we killed it with the trades for Talib and Peters.

    Don’t forget your safety goggles.

Five sixth-round picks. If I had to guess, I think Snead and McVay use three of them to move up in the fourth or fifth round for players they don’t want to miss out on. Probably will trade one of the fourth round picks to move up in the third round. Lots of wheeling and dealing!

Can’t wait to see who the Rams bring in for visits. As it stands now, I expect the Rams to pick an edge rusher at #23, maybe an OT. I will be most interested in the mid-round players they bring in.

I remember the compensation if we did not resign Watkins came up in conversation when we traded for him last year. If we do wind up netting two 3rd or 4th round picks for Watkins and Johnson, those might be used to get some decent interior offensive linemen.

Jordy Nelson was released by the Packers today to drop $12.5 million from their cap, right after signing Jimmy Graham. Nelson would be a nice replacement for one or two years.

I am glad they re-signed him. Need a good nickel CB. Based on what Tru is getting from the Jets and what the WRs are getting, this seems like a bargain.
