sanbaggerParticipant
29 total false starts in 10 years???? that will be huge upgrade in and of itself.
On paper, I really like the addition…it was time for a different spot for GRob. I still think GRob can be a good player, just LOT wasn’t it at this time.
sanbaggerParticipantI think the Yanks are gonna surprise this year….if they get just a little starting pitching.
Of course….I may be a little biased.
April 2, 2017 at 11:27 am in reply to: do people agree with this? my sense of how the Rams GM leads during the draft #66919sanbaggerParticipantI absolutely believe it’s a collaborative deal and there isn’t a King of war room.
Where I think the whole “I have the final say” thing comes in to play is whether or not to trade up or down. Somebody has to make that choice, and usually they have a particular guy or 2 in mind, and the last word guy has to decide to sit or trade.
We watched Fisher drop back and end up missing on the guy he wanted…that was completely his call at the end of the day….now all parties could be on board, but the buck still stops with him then and Snead now.
Oh, I also completely agree that differences of opinion come up with regards to individual interpretation.
Good post Zn, I enjoyed the read.
sanbaggerParticipantThanks for sharing.
It will be interesting to go back after the draft and just see how this list corresponds to who they actually draft. It seemed to me, the Fisher regime followed this pretty close, of course they usually had 1 or 2 guys they avoided to pretend they weren’t interested, but for the most part they drafted from this list.
I also found it interesting that they did interview a couple of Centers but missing from that list was both Elfein and Pocic.
sanbaggerParticipantHere goes the local broken record….they need a Center
I’m OK with a stop gap, but still feel they need to invest a higher draft pick for a snapper.
sanbaggerParticipantI’m not trying to make comparisons, but this is the kind of stuff we were hearing when Martz took over as the OC…..albeit in a different way….but the kinds of things are eerily similar IMO.
sanbaggerParticipantthinking about it and thinking about it.
it’d be hard for this regime not to go offense with their first pick. they’ve invested so much already in giving goff the best possible chance of success. from coaching hires to free agency. but i don’t think there’s a center worth taking that early. maybe in the third round with a stopgap center to be signed in free agency.
i think it comes down to tight end because it fits need and this is a loaded class. it will most likely be engram if he’s available. if not then someone like bucky hodges. the advantage of guys like these is they could probably be lined up like wide receivers in certain instances. shoot i’ve read that hodges was used almost exclusively at wide receiver last season. huge red zone targets too for goff.
I’m of the same thinking. Since you have proved yourself as a Kreskin stand in, I will say…good post.
sanbaggerParticipantDunbar could etch out an intriguing role with the Rams having previously shown he can be a viable receiving option at his position while holding invaluable experience on special teams as both a punt and kick returner.
The Rams already had that in Benny Cunningham. So why not just resign Benny?
Yea…I really like Benny and he is one of the best kick off return guys in the league.
I thought he was a surefire signing.
sanbaggerParticipantI liked the idea of Groy, I’m not sold on this one. If they are gonna go older and very short term, why not kick the tires on Mangold?
Then of course they are gonna have to draft the center of the future…Elfein and Pocic top the lists and one could MTL be had in the 3rd.
sanbaggerParticipantThe reason CK isn’t on a roster right now is simple…he has been terrible. He’s just not a good QB, for whatever reason.
The NFL will overlook many things, the inability to play usually isn’t one of them.
For the record….I didn’t like the kneeling one bit. I think his cause was manufactured and he just wanted to draw attention to himself…he proved that by failing to vote. I usually don’t appreciate Stephen A. Smith, but his rant on CK was spot on.
sanbaggerParticipantI didn’t read it that way. I read it as naming 2 separate and distinct things. The team as a group were not as involved or committed (and that has been directly said about Gurley) and as a result their performance suffered.
To me committed means buying in the coaches scheme. If the players aren’t buying in it’s hard for them to get motivated.
I guess you could look at it as they half-assed because they weren’t committed individually but it jumped out at me that he meant committed to the overall game plan.
sanbaggerParticipantI really believe this is going to help Quinn. I think Quin has struggled a little, over the years, with the running game. I think he has been focused on penetrating and at times let his run responsibilities slip, allowing the runner free. In this scheme he is gonna have 1 job besides rushing the passer….set the edge.
I think this is gonna free him up.
sanbaggerParticipantBut notice he didn’t say the SCHEME was the biggest problem. He named 2 things–
Yea, but….he said scheme and the a lack of commitment. I read that as pretty apparent they didn’t have confidence in the scheme and didn’t commit…..leading it to scheme as the primary issue.
You may have several symptoms but the only way to cure the illness is to get a correct diagnosis and treatment, then all the symptoms go away.
sanbaggerParticipantWow…Saffold saying the scheme was the biggest problem?
Usually players don’t spread the dirt after a change…but….
sanbaggerParticipantWell, i like BIG strong, power, Olines, myself.
I dont like them quick, little, rascally-smart, leg-whipping Olines.No-sir, I like big ugly monster Olines. Like the ‘Mou
ntain’ and the ‘Hound’ on Game of Thrones. So, bring it on.
w
vDon’t know about Game of Thrones, but I can get on board with this kind of thinking.
p.s. I don’t watch GOT…I know, I’ve heard about it from friends…just doesn’t interest me. I’m either watching sports, talking about sports, or reading a book….oh, I like murder mysteries as well.
sanbaggerParticipantI’m OK with it…I wouldn’t say GZ has been stellar, even though he did have a good year last year I still found myself unsure if he was gonna make a FG well within his range. It might take a little while for that to go away.
March 15, 2017 at 6:53 pm in reply to: Connor Barwin visited Rams on Wednesday…signs on Thursday #66328sanbaggerParticipantok. now i’m guessing tight end or defensive back in the second round.
Just saw a mock that had Ross available at 37….I would take him.
I’m a known O-line guy, but at 37 they may have dip their feet in that DB pool….they could take a swim if they like.
March 14, 2017 at 6:04 pm in reply to: will the Bills match the Rams offer to Groy? Turns out…yes (updated 3/16) #66292sanbaggerParticipantI was pretty close…I suggested 2.5 per for 3 years with 5 gtd.
I think that’s gonna get it done, but I’ll admit I have been second guessing myself.
sanbaggerParticipantIt really looks like the Rams are addressing all the needs prior to the draft so they aren’t drafting for need.
They signed Groy to an offer and reports are they are talking with Jarvis Jones to fill that OLBer position that is currently a big question mark.
Safety is still a hole but KWebb can possibly step in, although I am sure they are gonna draft a DB or 2 or 3…maybe they use all picks on DB’s.
sanbaggerParticipantI read he tweeted a picture with only part of a contract with the Rams. It’s looking more and more like he’s headed to LA
sanbaggerParticipantI would like to see a center in FA….even though I want Elfein, I would like to see them bring some more vet leadership to the line for the short term.
I’m not overly concerned with corner as the draft is deep and they still have a very young group already in the fold.
I want them to resign Benny and GZ
Good thread
March 11, 2017 at 10:52 pm in reply to: Could Bills RFA C Ryan Groy follow Robert Woods to the Rams? #66190sanbaggerParticipantThanks Zn….If I’m reading that right it still appears the offer I suggested is the better offer.
The answer really lies with the Bills, if they want to match.
March 11, 2017 at 6:12 pm in reply to: Could Bills RFA C Ryan Groy follow Robert Woods to the Rams? #66180sanbaggerParticipantWhat would it take? Think 2.5 mil could get it done? He’s a back-up in Buffalo and maybe they don’t want to go the extra 700K.
If they could get him for around 2.5 for 3 years with 5 mil guaranteed, that would be a relatively cheap signing for a young guy with low mileage and they could still draft a Center….Hmm who could we (I) want.
I’m not opposed to this.
sanbaggerParticipantI’m sure he said “RT, Sure I love the idea” because what else is he gonna say?
When they asked what he thought about about moving, the question was rhetorical and they were telling him he was moving.
I’m just not sure Hav is a guard, but I may be wrong…maybe he slides over and dominates inside. Then if GRob struggles there’s depth at the position.
One thing is certain, with the addition of Whit and subtraction of Barnes, this O-line is improved.
sanbaggerParticipantJust don’t think that’s the spot for him. I think Hav was struggling with the injury last year, hence the drop off. I think GRob would be a mauler at guard.
sanbaggerParticipantme: pretty much sounds like a younger, less expensive Garcon
That’s a great comparison…I believe I agree with that.
I love the signing…very good hands, good locker room guy, very good blocker, good route runner, good speed…I’m trying to find something negative, guess I’ll just have to keep looking.
March 10, 2017 at 8:04 pm in reply to: Rams cut Barnes, Sims, & Kendricks & trade Hayes…also Watts & Mason #66140sanbaggerParticipantalso maybe sanbagger gets his wish and elfein becomes a target with that second rounder
He didn’t have a great combine and may still be available in the 3rd or even the 4th.
I would love for them to pay Mangold and draft Elfein in the 3rd.
March 8, 2017 at 7:20 pm in reply to: Rumors are that Britt is in Atlantic City boasting about signing with the Eagles #66016sanbaggerParticipantGood. That would mean McSnisher
is going to sign one of those Washington WRs.w
vNot so sure. It looks like Garcon to the Niners and Jackson to the Bucs….it’s still early.
sanbaggerParticipantThis is my hope:
link: http://theramshuddle.com/topic/free-agent-top-100-salary-ranges/
24. WR Pierre Garcon (30) — $8.5-10.5 million/year – Run-after-catch specialist has become one of the NFL’s best route runners. Great hands: Has dropped only 8-of-330 targets (2.4%) over the last three years.
The guy can play and 30 isn’t over the hill by any means…but….
He’s gonna want 3 years minimum, he knows this is his last shot at making the bigger type dollars…so I figure he’s gonna want 3 years 30 mil- 20 mil guaranteed.
The Rams already inked Tru to 17 mil, they can’t afford too many of the 10 mil guys…and I still think they want a top tier type on the O-line with a couple of the middle tier (5-7 mil) to supplement.
The receiving corps is young, not really bad…and they have guys coming off the IR which have hands. I think Woods is a perfect complement….he’s not a #1 but then neither is Garcon.
I would love to have Garcon on the team and maybe they can free up the space to get him and some of the guys I want by subtracting (Sneads words) some guys I wouldn’t mind getting axed….so, maybe we get the best of both worlds (I love Vanhalen).
Good to see you put down who you’re hoping for, and I really like the new Huddle pic…just noticed it today, not sure how long it’s been up.
sanbaggerParticipantOnce it was determined they were gonna run a 3-4, I had Tree as the Mike and Barron as the MO.
I think Tree would be a better MO than Barron, but I think Barron will be just fine at the MO position.
If they do add LBers I would be more concerned with the other OLB position…I have concerns with that and wouldn’t be surprised to see them take a rush OLBer in the draft as there seems to be a lot available this year.
