Well–I’d love to see them re-sign Trumaine JHohnson and if they don’t they’d better be able to bring in a good free agent or draft a guy because he will be missed. Webster can’t stay healthy and you gonna put on Julio Jones next year?
There seems to be a lot of guys to get done–starting with Donald.
Hey–if they can do it AND fill the holes I’m fine with them signing Watkins.
Otherwise I’d let him and Tavon walk.
I wouldn’t sign Tavon anyway.
Quinn is a tough call because of his health but they managed him pretty well this year.

PA RamParticipantLet me start off by saying with all sincerity: I blame Zooey and his crappy California weather.
Hey–it wasn’t ALL his fault.
Pharoh Cooper may want to find a cave and crawl in and cry for a few weeks. What a nightmare for him.
They were always trying to catch up and the Falcons just kept grinding them down.
Yes–I hoped they would win–but I thought it could go either way. Unfortunately they had home field advantage which is no advantage for this team at all.
Very impressed with Gurley and Goff and Woods. That is the core of this team–along with Kupp.
Watkins—-see ya.
The Falcons secondary was very impressive. They deserve some credit. They played a hell of a game. I expect them to spank the Eagles.
Actually–I kind of expect they have a great chance to get back to the Superbowl. They didn’t have the best record but it’s a very talented and well-coached football team. And they had something the Rams did not have–experience.
I feel miserable for Whitworth. Hopefully they get that elusive playoff win for him next year.
I think the Rams will get back to the playoffs next year. And they’ll be better.
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantI think these are two very evenly matched teams.
I have one fear: Sam Ficken.
This really feels like the sort of game that can come down to a last second 40 yarder to win it.
I have no idea how that will go.
I’m going to trust McVay’s genius to win this thing and not allow it to come down to that kick.
If it comes down to that kick–I will not watch it. I will bury my head and listen.
And then I will scream one way or the other.
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantNot looking good here, either. 90% chance of rains, wind gusts up to 6 mph, a high of 58 expected. An overnight low of 48. So we’re kind of feeling it out here, too. But of course with the East Coast bias in the media, there’s total silence about it.
Frankly, I don’t know how you do it.
I’d move.
It’s beautiful in Pennsylvania this time of year.
Here’s a pic of a selfie I snapped this morning:
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantOkay–this wasn’t REALLY a bye week but the Rams came off their bye earlier this year and blasted the Giants 51-17.
So it was kinda a bye.
But yes–I know it isn’t the Giants.
Still–I’m looking for hopeful signs.
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantI’ve seen this argument out there and it’s worth considering, though in the end I argue for sitting the starters. One view against it says, the Rams are not guaranteed the 3rd seed so this win is huge. What happens if the #3 and #4 seeds advance to the Championship game? With a loss and so falling to the 4th seed Rams lose homefield.
I think you pretty much answered this.
But yes–they are 7-1 on the road and 5-3(counting the England game so not even really a home game) at home.
On the scale of important things for this team THIS year–health far outweighs home field.
I get it–but this is the PLAYOFFS and they put themselves as having to win two straight road games against great teams to make the Superbowl. But again–this team does not fear the road at all. They have played in loud stadiums. They know what they have to do.
If they were fighting for the #1 seed and could guarantee home field throughout the playoffs or perhaps even the #2 seed, I’d think that they should play the starters to secure the position because they would still have a bye week coming to rest guys. They don’t have that. This is their only chance to rest guys before the big push.
IMO, they have to do that.
Can you imagine the outrage if McVay played them and Gurley or Donald were injured?
The press would destroy him.
He’s being smart. I like it. I agree with it.
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantI think it’s great and a real tribute to the team that they have such a great road record and have been successful after traveling so many miles. Has any team traveled more miles?
But it disgusts me that they have to do this every year.
Did they volunteer for this?
I think it stinks.

The 9er fans got awfully smug in a hurry.
I hope the back-ups put a beating on them.
Mannion for 4 TDs. Malcolm Brown for 150 yards on the ground.
Sam Ficken for 5 field goals.

December 30, 2017 at 1:07 pm in reply to: informal poll…was the winning TD in Tenn. a 4th quarter comeback? #79772PA RamParticipantKurt Warner only had 9 comeback wins for his career. One less than the great Mark Sanchez.
Tom Brady leads all active QBs with 41 comebacks.
Surprisingly, Aaron Rodgers only has 12.
Where do you get all of this made-up information, anyway?
At the NFL Made-Up Information Store?
You Seahawks fans are all alike: besmirch the greatness that is Kurt Warner by hinting he is less than Mr. Buttfumble, Mark Sanchez.

Default Rams
Watching NFL network I got on after it started a discussion about the Rams. Not sure who the guy was (probably ex cowboy since they are employed there) said the Rams have a shot at the #2 seed if the Vikings lose and they win, also they lose good chance they are #4, so there theory is rest all starters and more than likely go to Philadelphia in the playoffs. This commentator said go to Philly in bone chilling cold with a California QB against a team who already beat you and has a better idea of what they are running. He thinks the Rams are pulling a bone head move.Unread Today, 09:16 AM Posted in reply to thegodfather’s post “Rams” #2

Rams have no shot at the 2nd seed even if both have 4 losses. The Vikes hold the head to head tiebreaker over them.Sean McVay has hinted, and the LA sportswriters have picked up on it, that he’s resting Goff, Gurley, Donald, and Whitworth so that if they lose on Sunday and the Saints win, the Rams will have the number 4 seed and a chance to go to Philly. As John McMullen on ESPN 97.3 said, this is so arrogant on so many levels.
1. It’s showing no respect to whomever they play in the WC game. They’re ignoring the fact they may not even win that game. Particularly if it’s Carolina.
2. It’s disrespecting the Eagles. Ok Foles isn’t Wentz, but he has played in a playoff game and I would even argue 2 since the 2nd Dallas game in 13 WAS in essence a playoff game. They had to win to get in.
3. A game in the northeast in January, outside, where the track is slower is not ideal. Plus, you have film on each other and I dare say Schwartz will have the D ready for those outside sweeps they ran the first time.Unread Today, 10:28 AM Posted in reply to thegodfather’s post “Rams” #3

It’s a smart move. You rest your players. You avoid Minnesota who also beat you. You avoid MVP Wentz who put this team in this position. You are now playing with Robert Woods who will help spread the offense. You have Gurley who benefits with having that deep threat. Their ‘California QB’ doesn’t have to carry the offense like Wentz did. He can just get the ball to Gurley through the ground or the air.Unread 12-28-2017, 01:57 PM #1

Default Why Would The Rams Tank To Play The Eagles?
Dumbest thing I ever heard. I think they are being dumb resting people and not going for the #3 seed. Carolina may bite them in the ass. NFL Karma is a bitch. Plus if it plays out that the #3 and #4 seeds meet in the NFC Championship they blow the home game.IronEagle

I think flat out tanking is just bad mojo. You play to win. You are correct about NFL Karma. Now if guys are banged up I can understand giving them a rest.
The only situation where it makes sense to not care if you win is the one the Eagles are in right now.
I guess Minn is locked in to their slot so they can rest players as well.

The Rams lost one game on the road this year against, you guessed it, Minnesota. I’m willing to bet if Wentz was around they may not be taking this stance.Unread 12-28-2017, 03:12 PM Posted in reply to Anthony’s post “Why Would The Rams Tank To Play The…” #5

I think they’re just resting players. The NFC playoffs are going to be tough regardless and the difference between a 3 and 4 seed is probably minimal. They get a home game regardless and have to travel if they win. That being said, if they play the Eagles I think it can still be used as bulletin board material.

PA RamParticipantWhere government does fail it is often set up for failure by the forces that want it to fail.
The Republicans hate government.
So they run for office, defund programs or in Trump’s case do that and put the most incompetent people they can find to run it–make a lot of noise about how it is failing(even though they share that responsibility) and offer a solution of private enterprise as the tonic this nation needs. Only that solution can work. Only that solution can save us.
Except it doesn’t.
It isn’t made for that.
But yes–people are being conditioned to hate government.
Look–the government can pick winners and losers by writing the rules.
A government that does not serve the economic interests of the majority of its citizens will eventually be doomed to failure. But on the way out–some people will get very very rich. And they may not have much of a need for government when all the gold is gone.
That’s what is slowly happening.
And many Americans–those who will be hurt by this–are cheering the loudest.

December 29, 2017 at 4:25 pm in reply to: informal poll…was the winning TD in Tenn. a 4th quarter comeback? #79734PA RamParticipantI kind of agree with you.
I mean–technically it’s a comeback but not in the sense that you think about when it comes to last minute final drives for the win.
So–yes it is a comeback. But not a classic “4th quarter comeback” which is what you mean, I believe.
But I’m fine if they don’t have to have any of those comebacks.
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantThis is a no-brainer to me. Rest them. Eventually you will have to play the best team and I’d rather they do that healthy instead of facing a weaker team injured.
This is a gift. As close to a bye week as you can get. After this there is no more time off.

December 27, 2017 at 4:41 pm in reply to: press sets up the SF game + endless Garoppolo praise #79650PA RamParticipantThis is the 9ers Superbowl. Their fans on Twitter are calling out McVay for being scared to play certain teams so he’s tanking(ridiculous) or that he doesn’t want them heading into the playoffs with the Rams starters getting hammered by the 9ers(more ridiculous). So this game means everything to them.
The Rams just want to get out healthy.
If this meant something the Rams would be at least a 6 point favorite–even with Ficken. Maybe even more.

PA RamParticipantI saw “The Man Who Invented Christmas” and it touched on this sort of thing–in relation to “A Christmas Carol”.
Dickens saw some ugly stuff.
From Wikipedia:
On Sundays—with his sister Frances, free from her studies at the Royal Academy of Music—he spent the day at the Marshalsea.[25] Dickens later used the prison as a setting in Little Dorrit. To pay for his board and to help his family, Dickens was forced to leave school and work ten-hour days at Warren’s Blacking Warehouse, on Hungerford Stairs, near the present Charing Cross railway station, where he earned six shillings a week pasting labels on pots of boot blacking. The strenuous and often harsh working conditions made a lasting impression on Dickens and later influenced his fiction and essays, becoming the foundation of his interest in the reform of socio-economic and labour conditions, the rigours of which he believed were unfairly borne by the poor. He later wrote that he wondered “how I could have been so easily cast away at such an age”.[26] As he recalled to John Forster (from The Life of Charles Dickens):
The blacking-warehouse was the last house on the left-hand side of the way, at old Hungerford Stairs. It was a crazy, tumble-down old house, abutting of course on the river, and literally overrun with rats. Its wainscoted rooms, and its rotten floors and staircase, and the old grey rats swarming down in the cellars, and the sound of their squeaking and scuffling coming up the stairs at all times, and the dirt and decay of the place, rise up visibly before me, as if I were there again. The counting-house was on the first floor, looking over the coal-barges and the river. There was a recess in it, in which I was to sit and work. My work was to cover the pots of paste-blacking; first with a piece of oil-paper, and then with a piece of blue paper; to tie them round with a string; and then to clip the paper close and neat, all round, until it looked as smart as a pot of ointment from an apothecary’s shop. When a certain number of grosses of pots had attained this pitch of perfection, I was to paste on each a printed label, and then go on again with more pots. Two or three other boys were kept at similar duty down-stairs on similar wages. One of them came up, in a ragged apron and a paper cap, on the first Monday morning, to show me the trick of using the string and tying the knot. His name was Bob Fagin; and I took the liberty of using his name, long afterwards, in Oliver Twist.[26]
PA Ram: I fear we are racing our way back toward that time. And a certain segment of the population will be cheering that all the way. It’s madness.

December 25, 2017 at 6:55 pm in reply to: Should the Rams rest their starters against the 9ers? #79546PA RamParticipantI think some of the older or beat up guys should certainly rest. And if he plays Gurley or some others I’d certainly pull them by halftime.

"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantThe Seahawks offense did nothing. They had more penalty yards than offensive yards.
Dallas pretty much imploded.
Some of their playcalling was a bit of a headscratcher–Dak looked bad and they had too many turnovers.
Credit to the Seahawks but this looked like two bad teams. Neither one is much of a threat for the playoffs.
Well–Dallas is out now anyway.
The last spot goes to the Falcons or Seahawks.
Falcons play the Panthers next week and Panthers are playing for the division.
It will be interesting.
Seahawks really could get in. Rams could play them a third time.

First of all: NFC WEST CHAMPS BABY!!!!!!!!!
This feels great. I don’t care what happens from here on out. Yes–I WANT them to win the Superbowl but it’s all icing on the cake from here. I guess I’d love to see them win the first playoff game for sure since it’s a home game. But it’s all house money right now. What a great enjoyable season.
Gurley is amazing. What a year he’s having.
The defense played tough today when it mattered most.
My one complaint: Ficken.
He will cost them.
Look–maybe it was just a bad first game. Maybe they let him kick against the 9ers and give him lots of chances and see how things look. Maybe they move on to another uncertain kicker. In any case–I miss GZ.
But right now I’m just thrilled.
I would rest the starters next week if possible.
It would only matter down the road for the higher seed if both the Eagles and Vikings were eliminated in the second round. Then they COULD get another home playoff game. But the way they’ve played on the road who cares?
The rest is more important.
Rest them.
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantIt’s unusual for me but I just feel confident the Rams win this game–and I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. Wouldn’t it be weird if Ogeltree made a game saving tackle on the 1 yard line?
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantI don;t know man.
Think what you’re saying about the team this year if losing the kicker is that big a blow.
To me it really means they’re a year away.
I don’t know. I do think that it’s cause for concern because let’s face it–they will not win every game like Seattle. It doesn’t mean they were a year away. It may mean they were just missing a valuable piece of the puzzle. A kicker is a critical piece–especially in close games. Even the greatest most dominating teams eventually rely on that last second kick at some point.
It may come in to play–it may not.
Or it may and Ficken may be great. Look at Elliott with the Eagles. That worked out pretty well.
But I don’t think it’s an overreaction to recognize that the kicker is important to the team as it moves forward.
I don’t think it means they were a year away if they lose because of a missed kick.
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantOf course, if he fickens up this week they’ll sign another kicker for next week and so on…
Oh sure–you’d feel that way. Disposable kickers, huh? Just throw them away like a used diaper, huh?
What happened to your Amish roots? What happened to the value of things? What happened to taking a pair of old shoes to a cobbler? You move up north and suddenly you’re just tossing away kickers.
I hope you remember that when Ficken kicks five field goals this week.
If he misses anything, of course, they should show him the door immediately. Back to banking or trading or whatever he was doing. If he blows that first outing you can’t fix those mental scars. No coming back from that.
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantThat Ike and Tina Turner were certainly no Karen and Richard Carpenter.
But I do hear they are popular with the Amish around here. “Proud Mary” was played at many a barn raising.
But I do hope we “remember the Titans” as an easy win.

PA RamParticipantThis is a fine kick in the nuts.
I was watching NFL Network last night when I heard it.
That’s it. There goes the season. It was fun. There was a lot of promise, of course.
But I can’t think of another team that gets more out of their kicker than this team. This can’t be dismissed as–“It’s JUST the kicker.”
This is huge.
This will cost them a game—maybe both of the last two games.
Come on Dallas! Beat the Seahawks!
Am I overreacting?
Maybe. But of the Rams 438 points scored, GZ accounted for 158 of them. It works out to a little over 11 points per game. Now Fickken won’t miss every field goal or extra point(I hope) but there’s a reason he was not on an NFL squad. How many Rams drives would stall only to have GZ kick a FG that may result in 0 now? Look at last week. The Rams started out with two field goals. They built on that.
The Rams will have to dominate games now. They won’t be able to play it to squeak out the close victory. They have to MAKE sure now. This will affect coaching strategy for the remainder of the year.
Look–I’d rather have Gurley stay healthy, and Whitworth, and Goff and Donald–of course.
But this is a huge loss for this team.
Okay–the Eagles lost their kicker and found a great replacement. It can happen. I HOPE it happens.
But this concerns me.
I just hope that it doesn’t come down to missed field goals or extra points. That would be a shame.
Now–someone talk me down off the ledge. I’ll be listening to Jeffery Osborne.
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantGoodness, if I had known ahead of time that Goff was going to end up with under 200 passing yards, I would have expected the worst. That game was all Defense, Todd Gurley, and Pharoh Cooper. The Rams simply gashed Seattle from the opening drive. I am surprised the Seattle fans didn’t turn on them sooner. But they may have been in such shock, they couldn’t process it.
I have only watched the first half so far but that is exactly right. Man–the defense was incredible. They gave Seattle no chance. This was played like a Jeff Fisher wet dream. This is what it SHOULD have been with him. Great running and devouring defense. Add in great special teams. The passing game took a back seat in this one. Goff did not even play particularly well(another strip) but McVay did the smart thing in this one and let Gurley take over the game.
That seems to be McVay learning.
This was very positive and fun to watch.
I’ll watch the second half later but what a half of football. Has this team ever had so dominating a half of football? Ever?
I’ll feel better when they wrap this division up for sure–hopefully next week. Then give the starters a rest in the last week and charge into the playoffs. This team is capable of beating any team in the playoffs. I’m not saying they will. But they have the talent and coaching to do it.
