“It seems to me that like Gurley, and like the OL, this CK/TA disconnect is a function of starting the season off out of sync. I am starting to get a theory in my head about why that is.”

The move? Hard Knocks? A change of scheme? Immigrants? Lizard People?

    No, not Hard Knocks.

Robert Anton Wilson had a very low opinion of Carl Sagan.

    Just saying…

    Why?

Ted Turner is a bit of a dolt, isn’t he?

I got the impression that as Sagan talked Turner was singing the “Golden Grahams” tune in his head ala Homer Simpson.

Gurley has faced eight or more men in the box on 11 of his rushes, fewer than nine other running backs. Melvin Gordon of San Diego (39 rushes with eight or more defenders in the box), LeGarrette Blount of New England and Devonta Freeman of Atlanta (33 each) have faced it a lot more frequently.

The bigger problem appears to be defensive linemen penetrating the line of scrimmage.

Ok, so it’s not just a matter of the Rams’ o-line being out-manned by 8 and 9 man fronts. They simply can’t run block. And this isn’t new, it goes back 13 games – well into last season.

I always thought the excuse that the Rams can’t run because defenses are stacking the box because they don’t fear the passing game was a little weak. Sure it has something to do with it, but good running teams still find ways to run effectively.

Look at the Rams in Dickerson’s heyday – 83-86. They didn’t have a passing attack that defenses had to respect. A past his prime Vince Ferragamo, Jeff Kemp, Steve Dils and Dieter Brock didn’t force defenses to back off the LOS. But the Rams ran the ball better than any other team. If you have a good run blocking line and a superlative back you can run against anyone. The current Rams have the RB but lack the o-line.

    That’s most certainly true.

    But neither does Trump.

In fact, I would say that they both probably have actual disdain for the middle class and poor folks.

But this is what our great two party system has given us to choose from.

You have no proof against Trump. He works the crowd before and after his events. He enjoys it. Now we know why Hildabeast never works the crowd and skips so many appearances, well besides her ill health. She hates everyday americans.

You actually think Trump working the crowd for photo ops is proof that he cares about everyday Americans?

That’s old news. I posted something about that a long time ago.

I had decided not to vote for Jill Stein because of her anti-science rhetoric and her pandering to anti-vaxxers and other fringe groups. But after awhile I decided that even though I disagree with her stance on that stuff, the Green Party’s platform still most closely matches my views. I think a country run on those principles would be a much nicer place to live than anything the dems or reps promise. The entire planet would be much better off.

So under any other circumstances I might vote for Jill Stein. But not under the current circumstances. Trump can’t be allowed to be President. Trump can’t be allowed to appoint four SC judges. That would be a disaster of Biblical proportions.

My second post was in response to a link to an article with Trump assault allegations women in the address with a BS intro of “Why is society so dismissive of sexual assault, our rape culture and women in general?”. Guilt by association and slander. Such hypocrisy. So I responded with truth, the inconvenient truth.

If you read the article you would see that the article wasn’t really about Trump. It used the Trump allegations to ask bigger questions like why we as a society minimize assaults on women and why do we make it so difficult for women who have been assaulted to come forward?

By the way, we have Trump on tape bragging about sexually assaulting women when he talks about kissing them and grabbing their genitals without consent. The inconvenient truth is that’s the definition of sexual assault.

In a lot of ways men and women don’t even live in the same world. Their experiences and perceptions are just so different. For example, if a man is set up on a blind date his biggest worry is that the women will be unattractive. The women’s biggest worry is that she’ll be raped.

Well, that was an excellent report. I kinda hope the Bills fans who you shared a cab with and bolted without paying missed their flight. I wouldn’t mind if we learned they missed their flight and were mugged so with no money they had to spend the night under a bridge.

Not just because they didn’t pay the poor Mexican cabbie (did you get stuck with the entire fare?) but because they are Bills fans and the Bills beat the Rams. Had the Rams won, I would probably be more gracious.

And these guys look like football fans from the northeast, btw. A man and a woman with significant love handles.

I’ll pretend you didn’t imply that all of us northeasterners are lardos.

I think Youngblood is probably my all-time favorite Ram. Jones, Olsen, and Gabriel high up there for me.

Yeah, Youngblood is my all-time favorite. I’d probably wear his jersey. Or maybe a Coy Bacon jersey. He was the first Rams player I ever took a liking to. A Coy Bacon jersey would be unique I bet.

Fisher has been here for 5 years, it has not worked. It is time for a change, and to get a new voice. I have not seen any improvement from this team. We are still no where near a .500 type team, which is embarrassing. At this stage we should be contending for a Super Bowl, not 8-8.

Jack, how can you be sure the Rams aren’t even a 0.500 team when they are currently a 0.600 team (3-2)? They could be 5-2 at the bye.

One wonders just how LaPage got elected in Maine. Looks like, in part, it was cause his opponents split the vote.

    Not in part, fully.

LePage got 37% of the vote.

    The math is easy.

Perfect illustration of the need for ranked choice voting.

How would that prevent a split vote with 3 guys running?

    From another thread…

“For example, suppose there are two similar candidates A & B, and a third opposing candidate C, with vote totals of 35% for candidate A, 25% for B and 40% for C. In a plurality voting system, candidate C may win with 40% of the votes, even though 60% of electors prefer either A or B. Alternatively, voters are pressured to choose the seemingly stronger candidate of either A or B, despite personal preference for the other, in order to help ensure the defeat of C. With IRV, the electors backing B as their first choice can rank A second, which means candidate A will win by 60% to 40% over C despite the split vote in first choices.”

Well, here is the next question: Who do you replace Fisher with?

Jeff Fisher has 22 years of head coaching experience. He has taken a team to a Super Bowl. He has won 177 NFL games including playoffs. So, who have you got who is going to do better?

People mostly assume that the next person will automatically have all of Fisher’s positive attributes and fix all of the negatives. Or just want change for change’s sake. Well, it would be good if you are advocating a new coach to hear your plan for succession.

And let’s not have the same tired retreads like Jimmy Johnson and Bill Cower. Those guys are done. There are not a bunch of Super Bowl winning coaches just sitting on the sidewalk just waiting for the Rams to call. If the you think the hot new assistant coach is the proper path, just harken back to Scott Linehan and Steve Spagnuolu for the last time the Rams tried that avenue. So yes, Fisher and Snead have taken the long path but they have built a team that can beat anyone in the league right now and they are the youngest team in the league. They will get better. The best approach is to maintain continuity and keep the train on the path, IMHO.
    Isiah 58

I agree with that for the most part. There does come a time though when it becomes obvious the current coach isn’t going to get it done. When that time arrives is open for debate but that time does come. And at that point you have to make a change even if the next Lombardi isn’t immediately apparent or available.

Fisher hasn’t reached that point yet although it can be seen when the sky is clear and the sun is just right.

I agree. If Quinn and Brockers play, the Rams win.

If not…is it a loss? Or just iffy?

I think it’s still a winnable game even if they don’t play. The Rams’ running game may get on track against Detroit. Their defense is giving up 4.9 yards per rush.

TruJo’s loss is gonna hurt and will really be amplified if Quinn can’t play.

    A defensive Jeff Fisher said:

“You can take the 32nd in the league and write all you want about it,” Fisher said, “but this offense is improving.”

Well, there’s no place to go but up. 😉

Yeah, I would agree that it’s getting better but the pace of the improvement isn’t going to break the sound barrier. It may not get good enough soon enough to help much this year.

We’re over a quarter way through the season and the offense is still one of if not the worst in the league. It should be better than this. Some of the criticisms of Jeff Fisher aren’t legitimate but this one is. The offense shouldn’t be this bad and I doubt Fisher foresaw it being this bad. I bet he is as surprised as we are.

Information is good. However if it is used in a campaign to deny over the counter botanical supplements to the consumer then that is bad.

No one is trying to deny anyone their woo. The article is just saying caution should be used when taking those supplements because it appears they can interfere with real medicines leading to poor outcomes for the patient.

I’m still undecided on Jeff Fisher so I can’t say whether he should or should not get an extension. I want to see how things unfold this season. I know that may seem odd considering he’s been the Rams coach going on five years but so be it…

if the defense can get healthy then yes. i am confident the rams can win.

as long as they don’t turn the ball over…

they almost beat buffalo without quinn and brockers while giving up two turnovers – one being a pick 6.

They said it was impossible but Gurley finally cracked the 3.0 yard/carry barrier.

Keenum threw for 270 yds with over an 8 yard per attempt average. Subtact the pick 6 and it was probably his best day as a Ram. He completed passes to 6 different receivers.

The receivers didn’t drop any passes that I recall.
