Yeah, that whole Turner situation was odd. I can understand why Turner, an accomplished and respected OC, didn’t like having play calling responsibilities taken away from him. Apparently he didn’t agree with Zimmer that the play calling had to be adjusted. But it seems self evident to me that it would have to be given an offense missing its best weapon, with a depleted o-line and an immobile QB with an injury history.

I’ve always been a Turner fan but that unwillingness to adjust seems strange to me. There must be more to it than that

I agree…seems like there is something else goin on that we aren’t privy to. All good OC’s adjust their gameplan and scheme based on who is available and their strengths and weaknesses.

I always thought Norv would be a good addition and he also favors Fishers way of believing in a balanced offense…but he likes to go downfield a bit more than a couple of throws a game….and hopefully that intermediate toss is gonna be a strength of Goff as advertised.

Yeah, despite what happened in Minn I’d love to have Norv as the Rams’ OC. He has coordinated many good offenses including that Rams offense of the mid to late 80s with Everett, Ellard, Flipper, etc,

The vikes wanted Turner to stay on but Shurmur to call plays. Norv said nope see ya.If you watched Thurs. you saw the same dink and dunk play calling that drove some of us nuts when Shurmur was here. Bradford started 16 games that season and has not since.

They’re throwing short quick passes because the OL, as injured as it is, along with being 32nd in rushing, cannot protect the qb unless they do.

    link: http://www.twincities.com/2016/11/25/vikings-qb-sam-bradford-completing-plenty-of-passes-but-not-downfield/

It’s been a delicate balance for the Vikings on offense. Shurmur went to the short passing game to help protect Bradford behind an injury-riddled offensive line and to make up for a shaky running game.

Bradford wasn’t sacked and Zimmer said he got hit just three times, which was “pretty good.’’ But Bradford rarely threw downfield.

You are our resident cap guru, Ag. Will the Rams really have to cut Quinn to lock up Donald long term?

The Rams are in good shape. They lost a bit this year in talent, but the future looks bright. They have enough money to sign Donald and Goff. They can keep Quinn or let him go, that is independent to whether they sign Donald. Depending on how they want to structure their future cap, they can keep 8 to 12 of their best players for the next few years. They just have to be correct on picking the right players to extend.

Extending Brockers and Austin is fine. They just need to perform up to their contracts and their contracts are really not that bad when you consider the expected raise in the salary cap for the coming years.

Well, I question Quinn’s ability to stay healthy but he’s such a singular talent that I’m not ready to give up on him yet.

I’m glad that the Rams are in good enough cap shape to keep him if they want to. Thanks.

Well, i still maintain the MSM is a more sinister problem than the ‘fake news’ problem. Both are problems, but which one will the MSM NEVER talk about and which one will they try to solve?

True, but I think the ‘fake news’ sites/stories would be easier to vet and eliminate. So that’s a good place to start.

It would be cool if sites like snopes and politi-fact would go after the MSM too.

I think articles like that are important for people to read. The MSM tends to report on leaders like Castro and Chavez as if they were despots – and there may be truth in that – but at the same time they also did some things that helped the poor and improved living conditions in their countries. But you don’t hear about that mainly because they didn’t bend over to foreign corporate interests and they even nationalized some foreign company’s holdings on their own soil for the benefit of their people. Obviously the corporate-owned media outlets don’t take kindly to that.

And no matter how bad they are, they are usually better than the US propped up dictator they replaced.

One of my alltime favorite movies, by Wes Anderson,
    – The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Tilda, Dafoe, Goldblum, Keitel, Fiennes, F.Murray Abraham, Ed Norton, Jude Law, Owen Wilson, Bob Balaban…

Wes Anderson also did Darjeeling Express, Monrise Kingdom, The Royal Tannenbaums, The Squid and the Whale, The Life Aquatic, Rushmore, Bottle Rocket..

Yeah, I really like all those movies. I always think of you when I see Moonrise Kingdom. When I was watching it in the theater for the first time I thought this was a film you would like. I could picture you fitting in quite nicely in that universe. 😉

I’m also a fan of the ‘mockumentaries’ done by Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer, Michael Mckean, etc….This is Spinal Tap, Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman, A Mighty Wind…

“Let’s be honest here. Facebook and Twitter have no motivation to clean up their act: that they are paying out ad revenue to neo-Nazi propaganda is a consequence of the fact that that crap is popular. Rejecting bullying or fascism does not make them money, while providing an outlet for them does.
And now I’m torn. I feel like I should shut down my facebook account, but a) I use it for the good stuff it provides as a social medium to keep in touch with my scattered family, and b) if all the liberals leave, it will become an even worse playground for trolls and scum. What are you all going to do?”

Well what would “cleaning up their act” even look like? I mean the whole “fake news” thing is tricky. The MSM has been spewing out corporate-propaganda since day one. So why shouldnt we call the NY Times and the Washington Times the “fake news papers of record”

    w
    v

Of course it’s true that much of what MSM outlets report is inaccurate/propaganda, but there is a difference between them and a guy sitting in his mother’s basement just making stuff up and posting it on Facebook as fact. I wish the social media sites would investigate and remove that stuff. That’s what I agree with the blogger about.

Unfortunately, it appears people are willing to believe the memes that support their belief systems regardless of their accuracy. And the guy in his mother’s basement often has more credibility than the MSM does to his followers because of its history of untrustworthiness. The fact that people are willing to believe the “fake news” sites is largely the fault if the MSM. They had a big part in creating this mess.

Yes–and I hopped on board the Ram’s Train in the 70s when I looked forward to a lifetime of winning. I’m gettin’ a little old! That’s all I’m saying. Time to get this thing moving again because I’d love to be sitting in the old folks home talking to the annoying old Pats fans and Cowboys fans and enjoying their misery while the Rams rack up wins. I do NOT want to be heaving my walker at the television set.

    Um, nice try.

But if you were strong enough to heave a walker you wouldn’t need a walker.

Stop trying to cloud an already murky picture. We know the Rams are struggling and there’s no clarity as to what the fix is.

We don’t need Cowboys fans coming in here to obfuscate the situation even more.

Aren’t you the guy that was showing me all this proof that Trump had no chance? What sources were those? How well vetted? Or were they merely propaganda? Why do you believe them now?

Illegals were made a major issue in the campaign. They do vote. They had more cause to vote than ever before. And they did vote 3 million strong.

    —————
No. I was trying to predict the future using polls. I relied on them. The polls were wrong.

That is completely different from making a claim about “3 million people voting illegally”. That statement is a statement about a purported fact that has happened. That is not a guess about the future.

Its the difference between making a guess or Prediction, about a future Ram game, as opposed to making a statement such as “The Rams only allowed 3 million points last game”. One is a breezy prediction of the future. And one is a putative fact-statement. The Latter requires PROOF.

So, if you are going to make a statement like that you need some kind of PROOF. Otherwise its just as i said — a rightwing baseless rumor.

You ducked the question. Where is your proof?

    w
    v

Well, there is no proof for him to offer. The 3 million illegal votes story can be traced back to one man who claims he was somehow able to determine that 3 million illegals voted and he was able to do this within 5 days of the election results being posted. Of course he refuses to divulge how he did it. He must have exclusive access to some amazing piece of technology…

Clearly we need a better system to guard against things. How can you really trust any of this?

But here’s the thing—I do not believe there is any way they will let Trump lose at this point. I just don’t. Can you imagine what would happen if this election were suddenly overturned? The Trump supporters would lose their minds–and considering some of the groups who support him, I believe we’d see some serious violence.

Trump is going to be a disaster, yes.

But my guess is that they are willing to trade that to keep a certain system in place without undermining the trust of it. Once that trust is gone, how do you ever hold an election and proclaim it to be legitimate?

This, IMO, is a fantasy that the left has about getting rid of Trump. And I’m not saying the election wasn’t rigged. I’m saying they will never overturn this thing.

Yeah, I doubt any of this is going to lead to anything substantial. I just find it interesting. Although I suppose this could lead to some sort of voting reform though, like, oh I dunno…retinal scans at the voting precincts?

That way they can verify a voter’s ID and provide a free glaucoma screen at the same time.

Every square inch of the inhabitable planet earth is presently occupied by someone who conquered that place. …

We can though dedicate ourselves to a future where that kind of thing ends…
    ….

    =————-

    True.

My thing is just to at least encourage folks to take the ‘first’ step
and RECOGNIZE their actual history — conquest. Not bullshit mainstream-history stories full of amnesia.

America was built on conquest, lies, broken treaties, ethnic cleansing.

The Constitution was built on a mountain of skulls (to paraphrase a native american writer)

So step one is to look at that history.

I’m not sure what step two is. Reparations? Change the history books? I dunno. Step two is hard. Step one should be easier. But it aint, apparently.

    w
    v

It’s hard to change the history books because publishers want to make sure their textbooks are purchased by school districts. The textbook that a district uses is approved by the school board. The people who make up school boards are usually not history scholars. They are average people who have been immersed in American Exceptionalism since birth and learned what you and I and everyone else learned in primary and secondary schools – that the US is a benevolent giant that tries to be a force for good in the world and even when it doesn’t succeed its intentions were noble.

So to change how history is taught is a problem, because publishers won’t publish texts that tell the ugly truth because they are afraid that some or most of the school districts won’t buy them. And they can’t make a different text for those districts that might purchase the more enlightened versions. So what they offer all school districts is a single text spouting a sterile, innocuous version of the truth that won’t offend anyone on the board. Publishers want to sell books, not change the world. So the cycle repeats itself and today in 8th grade little Jimmy will learn that the Vietnam conflict was a misguided but well-intentioned effort by the US to protect the South Vietnamese from the evils of communism…

If you look at the Rams’ all
-time record prior to the 90’s you would see a very successful franchise. The Rams enjoyed fiftysomething years of mostly good football.

It’s only since the 90’s that the Rams became the dregs of the league. Habitual losers that saw their history of dominance over the hated 9ers reverse itself with 17 straight losses. We’ve now endured 26 years of mostly horrible football. When I was growing up the Rams were usually one of the better teams in the league. They were a team that could be always be counted on to make the playoffs.

Now there’s a whole generation of fans who equate the Rams with incompetence.

Well that’s all true, but holidays don’t have to have the same meaning they were created for. Christmas was co-opted from a pagan Roman holiday called Saturnalia that celebrated the winter solstice and involved the giving of gifts, decorating the home with green plants, large feasts in which the masters served the slaves, etc. When I celebrate Christmas, I don’t celebrate the birth of Christ nor do I celebrate the winter solstice…I just celebrate.

Same is true for Thanksgiving. I’ve co-opted the holiday to mean a celebration of food and football and not the events that led to the holocaust wrought upon the indigenous peoples of the western hemisphere.

Too bad we are waiting 100 years or I would volunteer to be a survivor. That way there would be at least one being in existence that’s capable of appreciation.

Of course, I’d be even more appreciative if Scarlett Johansson were picked to survive with me. You know, just as a back-up appreciator in case I’m not feeling well and therefore not very appreciative.
